Embracing Love and Community
As we enjoy the cooler weather that comes with winter in Florida, we’re reminded of how unique this season is for us. While much of the country is bundled up against snow and ice, we’re fortunate to experience a gentler winter—perfect for spending time outdoors and connecting with loved ones. February is dedicated as our “Love Local” issue, and for us, “love local” is more than supporting local businesses; it’s about cherishing what’s near and dear, including the people under your own roof.
This time of year always brings me back to our Social Soirée last February at Clive Daniel Home in support of Forty Carrots. If you attended then you know, “I love, love.” I’m a true romantic at heart, moved by anything and everything sentimental. It often makes me laugh at God’s sense of humor in making me the mother of two boys who get grossed out at the thought of romance and can barely say the word “love.” Yet, every Valentine’s Day, we make time for a special date night together. These moments remind me that my role as their mom is to bring a sensitivity and softness to their lives that only a mother can.
Lakewood Ranch offers not just warm weather but a warm sense of community built on the foundation of its small businesses. These businesses are the heartbeat of what makes this area vibrant and wonderful, and this month, we’re celebrating the incredible small businesses that make Lakewood Ranch truly special.
It’s no surprise that Lakewood Ranch is one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States. Its growth is fueled by the spirit of entrepreneurship, the dedication of its residents, and the unique charm of its local businesses that foster a sense of belonging.
We truly believe in the power of community—that together, we can achieve so much more than we can apart. Month after month, we’re humbled and inspired by the stories shared within these pages, each reflecting the spirit of collaboration and care that defines our community.
Thank you for letting us be a part of the life you’re building, whatever it may look like. Our greatest hope is that these stories encourage you to love your life— and the people and places in it—just a little more.
Wishing you a February filled with warmth, connection, and lots of love. Love one another,
February 2025

A BEACON OF SUPPORT FOR CANCER FIGHTERS
Team Tony Cancer Foundation
ARTICLE BY BROOKE BEZET | PHOTOGRAPHY BY NICOLE MAC PHOTOGRAPHY
The Team Tony Cancer Foundation, founded in 2010 by Tony McEachern, provides vital support to those battling cancer in the Sarasota area. The organization offers a variety of services, including nutrition guidance, support groups, and fitness and movement programs, all designed to improve quality of life during treatment and recovery.
Tony’s journey began in 2003 when he was diagnosed with Grade III Anaplastic Astrocytoma, despite being in peak physical health after completing a 621-mile endurance race in Vietnam. Through five neurosurgeries, years of radiation and chemotherapy, and experimental treatments, Tony endured unimaginable challenges. He credits his survival not only to exceptional medical care but also to the unwavering love of family, friends, and the shared strength of fellow cancer survivors.
Determined to give back, Tony’s vision came to life with the creation of the foundation, which pairs cancer survivors with fighters, ensuring no one battles cancer alone. What began as informal support has grown into an organized network of compassion and resources.
Team Tony Cancer Foundation recently hosted their seventh annual Gran Fondo Sarasota bike race, where survivors and participants proudly represented the organization. Their resilience and determination serve as a powerful testament to the foundation’s mission.
Join their efforts by volunteering, donating, or spreading awareness, and help bring hope to cancer fighters. Visit https://teamtony.org/ to get involved.

GAMBLE Creek Farms
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY GAMBLE CREEK FARMS
A leader in sustainable, organic farming, Gamble Creek Farms encompasses twenty-six acres and provides organically certified produce to area restaurants and residents. Through the investment of local restaurateur Ed Chiles and a team of professionals dedicated to using innovative clean farming techniques, Gamble Creek Farms produces seasonal outdoor crops and a large variety of microgreens and herbs grown year-round in an indoor facility.
“All our amendments are organic certified, because when you amend the soil with organics, like compost and chicken fertilizer, it feeds the biology in the ground,” explains Will Manson, former chef and current General Manager of Gamble Creek Farms. “When you don't use pesticides or herbicides, that allows the microbiology to live and thrive. The result is healthier plants, better yields, and better nutrition.”
Freshly harvested produce from the farm, as well as products sourced from other local organic, sustainable producers of chicken, eggs, beef, seafood, and more, are sold on-site at the Farm Market. The Market, which is open 7 days a week, also offers freshly baked bread and lunch specials for customers to enjoy.
“Our chef makes two to three different soups every day, one of which is vegan, and we use bread from local bread companies to make the sandwiches,” shares Will. “You can sit on our deck and look over at the farm and see the farmers in the field working. It's a very calm, peaceful, and quiet outdoor setting.”
Customers who use ingredients from Gamble Creek Farms not only support the local economy and multiple small businesses, but they also bring an elevated culinary experience to the table. “When you get something grown in healthy, pristine soil that is not loaded with chemical fertilizers, you notice the difference,” Will says. “My friends and family who come and dine at my home talk about noticing the difference in the textures and flavors of the lettuce as well as how you feel after you eat it.”
Stop by Gamble Creek Farms at 14950 Golf Course Road in Parrish to take a tour, shop at the Farm Market, and enjoy lunch on the deck. For more information, visit gamblecreekfarms.com and follow Gamble Creek Farms on Facebook and Instagram

NIKKI RINSEMA
A HEART FOR MUSIC AND FAITH
For violinist Nikki Rinsema, music has been a lifelong journey intertwined with faith, family, and resilience. Inspired by a strings program at her small Christian school in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, Nikki began playing the violin at just five years old. Her passion for music has grown over the years, fueled by a desire to honor God’s gifts and set an example for her children. Nikki’s musical journey flourished in her school’s tightknit community, where rehearsals and sports practices often overlapped, creating a unique balance between discipline and camaraderie. After high school, she attended Trinity Christian College near Chicago, where she expanded her musical repertoire, studied under exceptional instructors, and formed lifelong connections. One of her mentors, whose cello-playing friend she still collaborates with, left a lasting impact before his passing.
“For me, I realized what a perfect creation music truly is, and how that design reflects God and His intricate detail in so many ways.”
Rinsema Family
Her performance experience is as extensive as it is impressive. In Chicago, she worked as a private violin instructor at St. Xavier University and performed with the university orchestra. She was also part of the Trimont Quartet, honing her skills in a chamber music setting.
After relocating to the Sarasota area, Nikki brought her talents to several local ensembles. She spent two years as a section player with the Venice Symphony before serving as the principal second violin with the Anna Maria Island Concert Choir and Orchestra (AMICCO) for six years. With The Pops of Bradenton and Sarasota (now widely known as The Sarasota Pops), Nikki held the role of principal second violin for two years before ascending to Concertmaster, a position she held for four years.
Her performances span iconic venues, from St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City to the steps of the temple in Jerusalem, where she reflected on her faith and the purpose of her music. While she cherishes each experience, performing in Jerusalem remains a deeply humbling moment, reminding her that her music is a vessel for God’s work.
Nikki owns three violins, each with a story. Her current instrument, purchased in Chicago in 2019, has a unique history involving theft and recovery. Another, gifted by her father who sold his truck to buy it, is now played by her daughter Annie.
Teaching has also been an integral part of Nikki’s life. While she no longer offers lessons, her years as an instructor shaped hundreds of students, some of whom have gone on to professional careers. Nikki finds joy not just in nurturing musical talent but also in watching her students grow personally through the discipline and artistry of music.
Balancing her roles as a musician and mother hasn’t always been easy, especially amid challenges like hurricanes that forced her family to evacuate their home multiple times. Yet, Nikki’s commitment to serving her church and performing with the Pops never wavered. Her family’s musical bond has only strengthened through shared performances and moments of perseverance.
At the core of Nikki’s music is her faith. She marvels at the intricate design of music and its reflection of God’s creation. Through every note, she hopes to convey peace and worship, offering listeners a glimpse of God’s perfect harmony.

Guests enjoy time on the patio overlooking the vineyard and live music on Saturday and Sunday afternoons while kids love the large playground and games.
Fiorelli Winery & Vineyard also serves as a unique event venue boasting a pavilion in the middle of the vineyard that provides a 360-degree view of the grape vines. INNOVATORS AND CREATORS
In a world where creativity and determination collide, the most remarkable innovations often emerge from a deep desire to solve problems and make a difference. From revolutionizing how communities connect to redefining art, business, and technology, these trailblazers are shaping the future with their groundbreaking ideas and relentless passion. Their stories inspire us to dream bigger, work harder, and see challenges as opportunities for growth.
ROBERT STEFFES: BLENDING ART AND IMPRACTICALITY
Robert Steffes’ journey into innovation is fueled by his passion for learning and solving problems with a creative flair. While visiting a boutique with his wife, he spotted a purse that sparked the idea of crafting one out of stained glass—a whimsical and impractical notion that only made the challenge more intriguing. Inspired by his wife’s dream of a stained-glass dress, Robert turned the idea into reality, creating a custom stained-glass purse just hours before attending a gala. The result was a breathtaking conversation piece that showcased his artistic ingenuity.
Robert’s creations are rooted in deep connections and purpose. From designing wedding rings for himself and his wife to crafting personalized gifts, his work embodies passion rather than commercial ambition. While many admire his stained-glass purse and other artistic endeavors, Robert finds fulfillment in the joy and inspiration his creations spark in others.
For Robert, the future isn’t about scaling a business; it’s about continuing to spread happiness through creativity. Influenced by his wife’s philanthropic spirit, he aims to use his art to bring positivity and foster meaningful experiences. With no defined roadmap, Robert embraces endless possibilities to make an impact through love and artistry.

THE VISIONARIES BEHIND UNIQUE DESIGNS
CHASE MASSDORP: FOUNDER OF OVERFLOW TAP
Chase Massdorp believes that great products solve great problems. His inspiration for Overflow Tap came from a challenge his church faced during college: how to create a frictionless way for people to connect. “Why can I tap to pay for groceries or enter a sporting event but not to connect or give to a local church?” Chase asked himself. That question became the foundation for Overflow Tap—a product that leverages Tap technology to make connecting with local churches seamless.
Chase’s journey began in 2021 during a service at Bayside Community Church in Bradenton, where the idea sparked. Returning to college for his senior year, he worked tirelessly, 3D-printing prototypes and iterating based on feedback from ministry leaders. His persistence paid off. Overflow Tap launched at Bayside in March 2022 and has since expanded globally, with over 250,000 units deployed and half a million unique taps recorded.
What sets Overflow Tap apart is its focus on applying widely used Tap technology to an underserved market: churches. Chase shares that one church in Tennessee saw a fourfold increase in connection card submissions on their first day using Overflow Tap. Moments like these affirm his mission to innovate for faith communities.
Despite challenges—like building software without prior experience—Chase’s passion for serving others has been his driving force. As he looks to the future, his vision is clear: to make Overflow Tap a staple in every church in America, ensuring technology bridges the gap between people and their local faith communities.
