Looking into the future

April is a time of renewal, growth, exploring and investment—in our communities, our families, ourselves, and our businesses. At Lebanon City Lifestyle, we are proud to dedicate this issue to the many ways we can invest in what truly matters.

Lebanon is an incredible place, rich with history, opportunity, and community spirit. Investing in our city means supporting the small businesses that bring life to our city, uplifting the families that call it home, and ensuring that its growth remains rooted in the values we cherish. Every new storefront, every revitalized neighborhood, and every family and business that chooses to plant their roots here adds to the beautiful story of our town. Investing in family is about more than just financial security—it’s about time, traditions, and creating spaces where love and connection can thrive. Whether it’s sharing a meal at your favorite local restaurant, enjoying a weekend at the lake, or simply being present for the people who matter most, our families are the heartbeat of this community.

And let’s not forget the importance of investing in ourselves. Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Whether that means a calming scalp treatment at Oasis Scalp Spa, a rejuvenating wellness retreat, or taking a moment to breathe in the beauty of spring at local outdoor spaces, prioritizing your well-being is an investment that pays dividends in all areas of life.

For entrepreneurs and small business owners, investing in your brand is key to success. At Lebanon City Lifestyle, we celebrate and support local businesses by sharing their stories, highlighting their achievements, and fostering connections within our thriving business community. Your vision and hard work fuel our town’s growth, and we are honored to champion your endeavors.

Above all, our team at Lebanon City Lifestyle is committed to investing in this community by telling the stories of its people—the dreamers, the doers, and the dedicated individuals who make Lebanon a place we’re proud to call home. We believe in the power of storytelling to inspire, unite, and shape the future of our city.

So, as we step into this season of growth, let’s all consider the ways we can invest— whether it’s in our city, our loved ones, ourselves, or the dreams that fuel us. Lebanon is a town unlike any other, and together, our investments—big and small—make it even better.

Here’s to the power of investment and the promise of an incredible future.

A CONVERSATION WITH ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR SARAH

ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY WHIT MARIE PHOTOGRAPHY
HASTON

We spoke with Sarah Haston, TCEcD Economic and Community Development Director for the City of Lebanon, to chat about some of the most impactful projects in the city, including new retail hubs and community improvements. Sarah shared insights into how the City of Lebanon is supporting businesses and residents as it continues to grow, highlighting key initiatives like the revitalization of shopping centers, beautification efforts, and upcoming developments. She also discussed the importance of supporting the local economy and how every dollar invested helps enhance the quality of life in Lebanon.

WHAT ARE THREE PROJECTS YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF ACCOMPLISHING IN LEBANON?

When Mayor Rick Bell was elected in 2020 for his first term, economic development was a priority for him as he heard from citizens they wanted more retail and restaurant options.   I think the three economic development projects I’m most proud of working with the Mayor, Lebanon City Council, and the

City of Lebanon Departments are Publix’s on Hwy 109, which has become a retail hub and a significant sales tax generator for the City; the revitalization of the Western Plaza Shopping Center that includes Marshall’s, Ross, Five Below, Ulta, and Buff City Soap, Shoe Encore, Fire House Subs, Tropical Smoothie Café and Hangry Joe’s; and finally, we worked hard to attract Sam’s Club and Target for the Hartmann Drive Corridor that will continue to produce opportunities for economic growth.

Mayor Bell and I have had numerous visits with small businesses and large corporations that are eying Lebanon in the next few years. Lebanon is a destination for new retailers and restaurants, and we are proud of the work that improves the quality of life for residents in Lebanon.

Over the next four years, Mayor Bell and I are working on several codename projects that will continue the economic development success we have experienced. Lebanon is a wonderful place to live and work, and the next few years will be exciting with the new opportunities ahead!

Sarah Haston, TCEcD Economic and Community Development Director of the City

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE KEY INITIATIVES AND PROJECTS

THE CITY OF LEBANON IS FOCUSING ON TO SUPPORT ITS GROWTH AND IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR RESIDENTS?

The City of Lebanon has a 2040 Comprehensive Plan highlighting initiatives on how the City will look.  Mayor Rick Bell recently announced that we have accomplished more than 150 goals in that plan, but much more must be done.

First, we have added more than 30 new regulations on developers that will improve residential and commercial building standards we can all be proud of.  Secondly, the Lebanon City Council recently approved a city-wide beautification project that will improve the aesthetics of our community. As we continue to improve standards for private development, it is imperative that we also enhance the look of our public spaces. This beautification project will help our overall identity, characteristics, and branding. This initial investment in key areas will improve aesthetics, lead to further improvements, increase economic and

community development, and allow everyone to take pride in our City. Finally, we have completed a Parks and Recreation Master Plan that will feature additional parks and greenways.

We have almost completed the new Lebanon Sportsplex (Phase 1), which includes five new soccer fields. Additionally, the Mayor recently announced that he will begin designing Phase 2, which will include new baseball and softball fields, in his second term.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR RESIDENTS TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES, AND HOW DOES IT IMPACT THE CITY'S GROWTH AND SERVICES?

Investing in our local economy is vitally important.  The more you can purchase locally, the more we have to invest in public safety, parks and recreation, infrastructure projects, and schools. The three primary sources of city revenue are property taxes, developer fees, and sales taxes. That is why Mayor Bell, and I have worked hard to increase economic development

opportunities for quality of life and additional sales tax revenues to support city services.

“Shop Local” is more than a slogan; supporting local businesses and keeping sales tax dollars in the City is essential. When we are supporting small businesses, we are supporting our friends, neighbors and those who support us all year round.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE READERS TO KNOW?

We both absolutely love our jobs and Lebanon is our passion. We both really want what is best for Lebanon. We both agree it’s a challenging job, but at the same time it is extremely rewarding. It’s a magical moment when someone thanks you for their job that they love, and they work at a company we recruited here. And it is a wonderful place to raise a family. Mayor Bell was born and raised here, but when my husband and I moved here, we had a two-year-old and a six-month-old who are now 17 and 15. Lebanon is home!

MEET TSC MARKETING:A LOCAL LEGACY OF BRANDING BUSINESSES

Invest in Brand Identity for Your Business

ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY WHIT MARIE PHOTOGRAPHY
“Strong branding creates emotional connections, builds trust, and makes your business memorable in a crowded market.”

In this quick moving, clickbait culture that chases fleeting trends and gimmicks, some companies stand the test of time by staying true to the core of what really matters—brand identity. TSC Marketing, a middle Tennessee branding and marketing company, is one of those companies.

Founded in 1977 on the iconic Music Row, TSC has built its roots deep within Nashville’s rich history and culture. Over the years, TSC has evolved from its humble beginnings to an integral player in the city's marketing scene. But it’s the family behind the company—Lee Stewart, owner, and Jenny Stewart, VP—that truly embodies the heart of TSC Marketing.

FROM NASHVILLE TO WILSON COUNTY:

A FAMILY JOURNEY

The Stewarts’ journey with TSC began when Lee purchased the company in 2017.  Lee graduated from Belmont in 2010 and worked in the creative sector, including a notable role at Amazon in women’s retail apparel and photo editing on published Victoria’s Secret imagery, before taking the leap to buy the company he now leads. Jenny, his high school sweetheart at Brentwood Highschool, joined the business in 2018, bringing her deep ties to Nashville’s music legacy—her great-uncle Neal Matthews Jr. was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as a member of The Jordanaires and developed the Nashville Number System, still used in the music industry today.

Their story, one of reconnecting after years apart, mirrors the story of TSC itself. Despite challenges—most notably the impacts of COVID policies on the Nashville tourism industry—the Stewarts have expanded the company’s reach far beyond Nashville’s borders, working with clients nationwide, and growing new markets for branded merchandise and marketing solutions.

Today, TSC has moved its operations to Wilson County, but it hasn’t lost its connection to Music City. The company continues to nurture long-standing relationships with beloved Nashville institutions, like the Johnny Cash Museum, the Country Music Hall of Fam, Hatch Show Print and Opry.

BRANDING THAT BUILDS CONNECTIONS

At its core, TSC Marketing is about more than just creating branded items; it’s about building relationships. The company works with a diverse set of clients, from local musicians and Nashville landmarks to national brands, to create custom merchandise that tells a unique story. Whether it's designing apparel, producing branded accessories, or curating the perfect corporate gift, TSC helps businesses and organizations connect with their audience in meaningful ways.

Some of their standout projects include producing the top-selling sweatshirt at the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2024, and a wide range of other items in their gift shop such as guitar picks, hats, bags, stickers, and more. TSC also crafts rubber duckies for The General Jackson, collapsible dog bowls for Ole Red, and vintage coin purses for Luke Combs’ restaurant, Category 10. They’ve made apparel for Nudie’s Bar, and supplied everything from tin signs to coffee cups and lip balm for the Johnny Cash Museum. Hatch Show Print regularly orders aprons and tees, while The Ryman purchases umbrellas and pens. One of TSC’s very first customers, Rider’s In The Sky, is still one of their best clients today. They’re also proud to supply products for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the U.S. Air Force, and several Tennessee State Parks.

“We love working closely with our clients to build their branded items from the ground up,” says Lee. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see businesses thrive through the work we do together.”

WHY LOCAL BUSINESSES NEED STRONG BRANDING

Branding is more than just a logo or a catchy slogan—it’s the visual and emotional connection a customer has with a business. For local businesses, this connection can be even more important. In a city like Nashville, where tourism plays a massive role in the economy, the local community is often

overlooked in favor of national or even global audiences. But according to the Stewarts, local businesses have just as much to gain from investing in strong, cohesive branding.

Jenny also emphasizes that high-quality branding photos and consistent branding materials are essential to creating a polished, professional identity. "Branding photos are a must. They give your business a personality, help tell your story, and make you more connected to your audience," she says. “Without great images, your business can come across as less polished or even less serious.”

Here are three things TSC suggests you ask yourself about your business’s branding:

1. Does it have an identity? A solid brand helps you define who you are and stand out in a crowded market. Branded apparel and products are an affordable way to market your business. 90% of purchasing decisions are made subconsciously and logos play a large part in influencing these decisions.

2. Has it built trust ? 59% of consumers say that branded apparel makes them feel more loyal to a company. Over time customers may develop an emotional attachment to your logo, which strengthens loyalty and trust.

3. Does it have recognition? A strong brand makes you memorable, which is key to building long-term success and loyalty. 71% of people keep promotional products for over a year, keeping your brand visible long after the initial interaction.

A LOCAL LEGACY THAT THRIVES

As TSC continues to grow, the Stewarts remain committed to their roots in Middle Tennessee.

“It’s been an incredible experience to watch both Lebanon and Nashville grow and evolve over the years,” says Jenny. “We are thankful and blessed to live here and run a business like this. Everyone wants to come to Nashville and bring a piece of it back home with them.”

This sense of community and pride in their work is what sets TSC Marketing apart. They understand that local businesses are not just clients—they’re neighbors, friends, and partners in the journey of success. That’s why, whether you’re a mom-and-pop shop or a large corporation, TSC is dedicated to helping you elevate your brand and make meaningful connections with your audience.

As Wilson County continues changing and expanding, TSC Marketing is a steady force, committed to the art of branding and the spirit of collaboration. From their family to yours, they’re here to help you tell your story—and bring your brand to life.

LEBANON’S FITE-FESSENDEN HOUSE

PROVIDES EDUCATION, CULTURE, AND COMMUNITY

ARTICLE BY LINDSEY HICKMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

For over 155 years, the Fite-Fessenden House has been a landmark in Lebanon’s history, standing as a testament to the city’s rich heritage. Today, thanks to the efforts of the History Associates of Wilson County, this beautifully restored 1870s home at 236 West Main Street is more than just a museum—it is a thriving hub for education, culture, and community gatherings.

The home was built in 1870 by Dr. James L. Fite (18361893), a Civil War surgeon and respected Wilson County physician. After studying medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Fite returned home to practice medicine and start a family with his wife, Emma Norman. The house he built reflected the Federal architectural style, common in the post-Civil War era, with later additions of Italianate trim during the Gilded Age.

In 1928, the home was purchased by Sallie Barry Peyton Fessenden and her husband, W.H. Fessenden, a businessman originally from New England. Sallie, a descendant of early Middle Tennessee settlers, was deeply passionate about history. When she passed away in 1983, she ensured her home would live on as a historical site, willing it to the History Associates of Wilson County (HAWC) with the stipulation that it serve as a museum for the benefit of the people of Lebanon and Wilson County.

By 1985, the home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and by 1987, it had been restored as a house museum, furnished to reflect life in the 1880s.

While the home remains a museum, showcasing furniture and artifacts donated by local families, its role has evolved to better serve the growing Lebanon community. In 2019, the History Associates launched a major restoration and revitalization initiative. With support from local businesses, civic groups, and generous individuals, the house received significant upgrades, including a new roof, refurbished woodwork, fresh paint, a reorganized collection, and an upgraded catering kitchen.

Throughout the year, the History Associates organize engaging programs and fundraisers, including:

• Celebrate Spring Fundraiser (April 24, 2025) – The annual cocktail party fundraiser is a community favorite, featuring live music by Rusty Sweeton, a delicious menu catered by Sammy B’s, and a live auction with an exclusive “Dinner and a Show”

package—a private four-course dinner for eight at the house, followed by a performance at Lebanon’s Capitol Theater. Thanks to presenting sponsor CedarStone Bank, this event helps fund ongoing maintenance and programs.

• Quarterly Lunch and Learn Events – Lunchtime lectures covering a wide range of topics, from local history to music and culture. The next event is scheduled for June 17.

• “Arts of the Gilded Age” Workshop – This program offers 5th-grade students a chance to complete art projects about architecture, fashion, customs, and inventions of the Guilded Age.

• Holiday and Seasonal Gatherings – From Fall Membership Teas to Christmas High Teas, the house provides a charming venue for seasonal celebrations.

The History Associates of Wilson County is a volunteer-run nonprofit that relies on community support to keep Fite-Fessenden House open and thriving.

Here’s how you can help:

Become a Member: Joining the History Associates is a great way to stay connected and support preservation efforts. The next regular membership meeting is on April 15 at 10 a.m.

Rent the Home: Private events such as book clubs, garden club meetings, baby showers, bridal parties, small weddings, and committee meetings.

Volunteer:

• Technology & Social Media – Help with the website and online outreach.

• Museum & Event Assistance – Act as a docent, help with tours, or assist at events.

• Maintenance & Groundskeeping – Extra hands are always needed.

The Fite-Fessenden House is more than a historic landmark—it’s a living part of the community, where people gather to learn, celebrate, and create new memories. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, donors, and local organizations, the home continues to be a vibrant cultural asset.

Rejuvenate

Your Roots

INVEST IN YOURSELF AT THE OASIS SCALP SPA + HEALING LOUNGE

Show your scalp some love with a rejuvenating experience at The Oasis Scalp Spa + Healing Lounge. This unique sanctuary, founded by April May French, offers more than just hair care, but a place for scalp health, healing, relaxation, and luxury.

April’s journey to opening The Oasis began after building a successful luxury salon and spa back in 2005. Deciding to take a step back from her career in 2011 to care for her husband as he battled a terminal illness, April went to work at a barbershop to provide stability for her family. Despite the hardship, it was during this time that she began having vivid dreams about a new business, a calling she couldn’t ignore.

In late September 2023, The Oasis was born, overcoming financial and personal challenges. April was supported by a small investor and a landlord who believed in her vision. With a strong reputation in the community, dating back to her previous work as an active member in the chamber, April’s dream quickly found its footing.

At The Oasis, guests are treated to more than just a service; they are welcomed into a holistic healing environment. The spa’s signature offering—the Scalp Spa—addresses a variety of scalp concerns, from hair loss to oily buildup to itchiness. While not a medical clinic, April’s extensive experience allows her to tailor each treatment to individual needs, ensuring the most effective and relaxing results.

Beyond hair services, The Oasis is a haven for mental and emotional well-being. “People confide in me, and I feel that the guidance I offer comes from a higher place,” April shares. Her intuition and empathy create a safe space where clients can unwind and receive not only physical care but emotional support as well.

Now rebranding as The Oasis Scalp Spa + Healing Lounge, the spa is introducing a valuable membership program and expanding beyond scalp services to include even more wellness options like skincare, waxing and more.

No need to travel to Nashville—everything you need for self-care and healing is right here at The Oasis. Visit online at theoasishealinglounge.com or follow them on social media at @theoasishealinglounge.

• 2 Dashes Angastura Bitters

• Orange Twist

• Glass Type: Coupe

The Income Tax Cocktail likely popped up during the Prohibition party scene of the 1920s. Its exact origin story remains a bit blurry, but it was definitely a hit in speakeasies. The name? Well, it's like a cheeky nod to the idea that sipping on this cocktail might be more fun than paying actual taxes! Made with gin, sweet vermouth, orange juice, and a dash of bitters, it's like a boozy adventure for your taste buds, with hints of citrus and herbs. Despite its vintage roots, the Income Tax Cocktail still brings the party vibes, transporting you back to the roaring '20s.
