REAL LIFE LOCAL LOVE STORIES
As the chill of winter lingers, February offers us the perfect opportunity to warm our hearts and reflect on what love truly means. This month, our "Local Love" issue is dedicated to celebrating the heartbeat of our community — our people, our partners, and our passions.
Here in Lebanon, we’re constantly reminded of the power of love. From the small-town charm of our local businesses to the stories of connection and resilience that bind us together, there’s a palpable sense of care that defines our city. It’s in the neighbor who goes the extra mile, the shop owner who greets you by name, and the shared pride we feel for this incredible community we call home.
We’re especially thrilled to shine a spotlight on our partners this month, including Tuckers Gap, a venue that has set the stage for so many unforgettable love stories. In this issue, you’ll find heartfelt tales from local weddings, alongside tips for romantic places to take your special someone. Whether it’s a candlelit dinner, a scenic overnight trip, or a nightcap at a nearby hotspot, we’ve gathered ideas to make this month extra special.
But love isn’t just about what we give to others; it’s also about the care we show ourselves. That’s why we’re dedicating this February to "loving on our ladies." On February 22nd and 23rd, we’re hosting our Winter Wellness Retreat, "Nurture in Nature," at the stunning Evins Mill. It’s a chance to pause, rejuvenate, and invest in your well-being amid the beauty of nature. Let’s remind ourselves that self-care is not selfish; it’s essential.
In this issue, you’ll also discover features on sweet Valentine’s Day confections, profiles of inspiring women in our community, and so much more. Each page is infused with the spirit of love and gratitude for the people and places that make our town so special.
Thank you for letting us be part of your lives. As you explore this issue, we hope you’ll feel inspired to spread a little extra love — to your neighbors, your loved ones, and most importantly, to yourself. Together, we make Lebanon a place filled with kindness, connection, and community.
With love and appreciation,

Eric and Cassandra Durtschi's story is like the smoothest dark chocolate—rich, complex, and filled with unexpected layers. From childhood friendships and family ties to a passion for crafting the perfect piece of chocolate, their journey has been a sweet adventure that led them here to Lebanon, where they’ve finally turned their dream into a delicious reality.
The couple’s connection goes way back. Eric, from Watertown, and Cassandra, from Cookeville, grew up just a stone’s throw away from each other, their families close friends for years. They even dated in high school when it was cheaper to drive across town than to talk on the phone. Life carried them in different directions, but fate had a way of bringing them back together in the most serendipitous of ways.

For Eric, chocolate was never a mere treat. It was a way of life. His father worked for Bradley’s Candy Company and later for Russell Stover, so chocolate was always in the house. It was in his blood. After becoming a chiropractor and focusing on nutrition, Eric set out to make chocolate healthier. This led him to develop brewed cacao, a revolutionary product brewed like coffee, which would take him on a journey that spanned the globe.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. A life-changing accident forced Eric to step away from chiropractic work for a while, and in the void, he found his true calling: creating healthy, gourmet chocolate. With Cassandra by his side, they founded Durći Chocolate in 2016, and their creations quickly earned a reputation for excellence, winning international awards and finding a place in gourmet markets across the U.S.
Just as their business began to thrive, tragedy struck, a devastating wildfire in Santa Barbara destroyed their home, inventory, and chocolate-making equipment. It was a heartbreaking blow, but the Durtschis refused to give up. They sold Crio Bru, another cacao product Eric had developed, and set their sights on a fresh start closer to family. In 2022, they returned to Tennessee, a decision that felt like coming full circle.
Just in time for the holidays, Durći Chocolate officially opened its doors here in Lebanon November 2024. The name, a tribute to the Durtschi family’s heritage, reflects their commitment to quality and tradition. Cassandra’s background in event planning and Eric’s unwavering pursuit of chocolate perfection came together to create not just a shop, but an experience—a place where people could taste, learn, and celebrate the art of fine chocolate. Together, with their six children in tow, the Durtschis are crafting not just chocolate, but a legacy of resilience, passion, and family that’s as sweet as it gets. Tucker’s Gap Event Center is the realization of a dream that evolved over time, a dream rooted in love, community, and the desire to create a space for others to celebrate their most cherished moments. But it didn’t start as an event venue. It began as an equestrian farm, where Kevin and Christine’s daughter rode competitively. As with many great love stories, their plan changed, taking them in a direction neither of them had quite imagined, but would become a blessing for many.
Kevin and Christine's love story began in 1997, when they married in a small ceremony at Christ Church with only two witnesses. From the start, their shared experiences centered around food, entertainment, and travel, formed the foundation of their relationship. "We value experiences more than gifts or things," Christine shares. "We love going on trips with friends and making lasting memories." Over the years, they built a community of friends who supported them, and it was this same community that helped bring Tucker’s Gap to life. "We’ve been surrounded by hand-picked friends like Matt Campbell, our facilities manager, who’ve helped us succeed," Kevin says. "We’re so grateful for everyone in our lives."
When Kevin and Christine first saw the potential for an event venue on their farm, it was more of a shift in plans than a well-formed dream. The original idea was to build a home and horse barn on the property, but as requests for weddings and parties began to come in to use the barn, the couple saw an opportunity to create something much bigger—house plans turned into building an event center. After some convincing, Christine saw the vision too, and with their friend and neighbor Nancy Baker as General Manager, the project took off. The venue began to take shape, and in just seven months, they hosted their first wedding on June 11, 2016.
Reflecting on their own marriage, Kevin and Christine offer heartfelt advice for couples embarking on their own love stories. “Our best advice is to always work through problems immediately and never bring them up negatively,” Kevin says. “Sometimes it helps to laugh about things because it’s done and we’ve learned from it.” Christine adds, “Respect for each other and a commitment to solving problems together will help you build a long, happy marriage.” This wisdom is something they bring to Tucker’s Gap, creating an environment where love and respect are at the heart of every event.

Their relationship has always been grounded in simple but meaningful moments, particularly their shared love for date nights. “Our ideal date nights are always centered around food and entertainment—whether it's trying out amazing restaurants or attending a concert,” Christine says. “Those are the moments that make us feel closest and remind us of what truly matters.”
Tucker’s Gap is more than just a place for weddings; it’s a space where couples can begin their own journeys, surrounded by the love and care that Kevin and Christine pour into everything they do. “We love staying in touch with our couples and watching them grow,” they share. “Some have even named their children Tucker, a reminder of the place where their forever began.”
At Tucker’s Gap Event Center, the dream Kevin and Christine built is more than a venue—it’s a community of love and shared experiences. “Your forever dream starts here,” Kevin says. “We’ll give you all of our efforts and care to help make it come true.” And as you’ll see in the stories of the couples who’ve celebrated their love here, every love story is indeed beautiful—especially when it begins at Tucker’s Gap.
HAYDEN AND CAROLINE
“If you can remodel a house together, you can get through just about anything,” says Hayden White, offering a bit of marriage wisdom that proved true for him and his wife, Caroline. For Caroline, the key to a lasting relationship is simple: “Keep God at the center.” Together, they’ve built a strong foundation that
This stunning 53-acre venue offers rustic charm and southern elegance in Lebanon. With a 5,000 sq. ft. reception hall, a 7,000 sq. ft. equestrian barn, luxurious bridal and groom suites, and multiple outdoor ceremony sites, it’s beautifully detailed and fully equipped for year-round use, a true gem according to so many happy couples.
“Our best advice is to always work through problems immediately and never bring them up negatively,”
- Kevin New
has carried them from their first meeting in first grade to their wedding day one year ago this month (February 24, 2024).
Hayden and Caroline’s love story began in elementary school at Coles Ferry, but it wasn’t until Thanksgiving of 2019, when their dads were frying turkeys, that they reconnected. From that moment, they’ve been inseparable.
Their favorite date nights revolve around exploring new restaurants in Nashville, followed by a visit to the Red Phone Booth for a cozy nightcap; their perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, just like their relationship.
Caroline says Tucker’s Gap was the clear choice because from the moment they toured the venue, they were treated like family. The open, adaptable space was everything they dreamed of for their celebration, making it the ideal place to begin their forever together.
JONATHAN AND BONNY
Jonathan and Bonny Davis’ love story starts out like they might become teenage sweethearts or maybe even a missed connection, but it was even more unexpected. Backstage at a high school Christmas play, Bonny, a freshman, and Jonathan, a sophomore, collided in the dark when the lights went out. When the lights flickered back on, both thought the other was cute, but never spoke to each other again for the rest of high school. Little did they know, their paths would cross again in the future.
Years later they reconnected, now happily together for six years, married for two. The couple shares that the best marriage advice they received was, “Let conflicts stay in the past once they’re resolved.” This approach
has helped them maintain harmony in their relationship, ensuring that disagreements don’t linger and only strengthen their bond. Their ideal date night? A cozy movie on the couch, Scrabble, sushi, and a few tequila shots to keep things fun.
As for choosing their venue, Tucker’s Gap was their natural choice as it was the place where they had their first date, attending a Sweet 16 party in 2018. "It felt full circle to come back to where it all started for us," Bonny says. With its breathtaking views and sentimental significance, it was the perfect backdrop for their celebration of love, marking both the beginning of their journey and the promise of many more memories to come.
Come ice, snow, and cold, Tucker’s Gap was ready to make Jessie and Lance Harrington’s wedding dreams come true. Despite the unexpected winter weather, including eight inches of snow just days before their wedding, Tucker’s Gap ensured everything went off without a hitch.
Jessie and Lance’s love story began in a way they’ll never forget—at a wedding. Jessie was a bridesmaid in her best friend’s ceremony, and Lance immediately noticed her. After checking that she wasn’t already married, he asked her to dance. She hesitated at first, but only because she wasn’t sure their friends would join in. When they did, the dance floor was filled—and so were their hearts.
Together since October 2019 and celebrating their fourth anniversary this month (February 20, 2021), Jessie and Lance agree on one crucial piece of marriage advice: "Keep God first and always make each other the priority.” Their first date at Awedaddy’s on Old Hickory Lake was a magical evening that set the tone for their relationship, filled with laughter, connection, and a deep sense of shared joy.
Tucker’s Gap, with its breathtaking views and welcoming atmosphere, was the perfect venue for their celebration. With family,

friends, and the perfect winter day, Jessie and Lance couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin their forever.
DANE AND ELISE
Dane and Elise Daniels’ love story began on a Labor Day weekend, when they met at a family lake trip. Two years later, Elise’s uncle, who had known Dane his whole life, encouraged him to reach out. He did, and the rest, as they say, is history. Exactly three years after their first meeting, the couple married on another Labor Day weekend, marking the start of their journey together.
Now, nine years into their relationship and eight years of marriage, the couple has two children and another on the way. Their secret to a lasting marriage? "Always be honest with each other and remember you are on the same team." Whether it’s a quiet evening or an adventurous date night at a new restaurant, the Daniels say they’ve learned to cherish the simple moments together.
"We wanted to be part of the story of Tucker’s Gap, especially as one of the first weddings held there," they say. With its stunning scenery and the personal touch from the owners, it was the perfect backdrop for their celebration; a decision they knew they’d never regret, marking the beginning of a beautiful chapter in their love story.

Olivia Craft Cocktail & Oyster Bar and Slow Hand Bakehouse have become cornerstones of Lebanon’s local dining scene. The dynamic couple Audra and Nick Guidry have channeled their talent to create spaces that feel both intimate and community-focused, offering unique foodie experiences everywhere they touch.
This Valentine’s Day, they’ve crafted the perfect experience at Olivia, where friends, strangers, and couples alike can enjoy expertly crafted cocktails, fresh oysters, and great conversation—a true reflection of the vibe they’ve worked so hard to build.
Their journey into the restaurant hospitality world wasn’t planned in a traditional sense; rather, it’s a story of serendipity and timing. "We kind of found both Slow Hand and Olivia by chance," Audra shares. When the popular Sassy Pecan announced it was closing, the couple jumped at the opportunity. For Olivia, their path unfolded similarly; while walking down from the Juniper space, Nick spotted crews working on a new building. Without missing a beat, he pitched the idea of a cocktail bar to the landlord who was excited enough to quickly offer them the lease.

“Olivia is our one-year-old daughter," says Nick. "We wanted to build a space around her personality—bold, sweet, fierce, and playful. We thought her name would perfectly represent the atmosphere we wanted to create here."
It’s clear that creativity and quality are at the core of everything Audra and Nick do. From their specialty coffee and pastries at Slow Hands to the fresh oysters and craft cocktails at Olivia, each offering reflects their commitment to excellence. "We love being creative through food," Nick says. "But we also love hospitality—watching people enjoy our spaces, our food, and our drinks. There’s something really special about how food and drink bring people together."
"This small town really seems to be a community gathering place," Audra observes. "It’s wonderful to see people come in, strike up conversations, and share a drink with someone new, or reconnect with
old friends." That sense of connection is exactly what drives the couple, who take pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who walks through the door.
Running a business together as a married couple isn’t without its challenges, but for Audra and Nick, it’s a seamless partnership. "We’re both driven and hardworking, and when you put your career in your own hands, you just make it happen. We’ve worked together for years, and there’s no one else I would trust more than Nick," says Audra.
For the Guidrys, the secret to their success lies in their ability to play off each other’s strengths. "We’re each other’s sounding board," Nick says. "We develop menus together, make decisions about how we want to grow, and figure out how we can expand our
business profile. We don’t lose sight of the most important thing: each other."
Audra and Nick’s journey began long before coming to Lebanon. They first met in the hospitality industry in Nashville, a small but tight-knit community where professionals frequently cross paths. "We met and started working together as part of a food truck and wholesale bakery many years ago, then opening Pelican & Pig and the flagship Slow Hands Bakehouse location," Audra recalls. "When you meet someone who’s equally focused on creativity, quality, and has a strong work ethic, the professional side falls into place quickly."
Looking to the future, the Guidrys aren’t stopping anytime soon. "We’ve got more in the works," Nick teases.
This Valentine’s Day, as you sip a craft cocktail or enjoy a fresh oyster, you’re not just experiencing a meal—you’re participating in a story that’s been years in the making.

Joshua and Scarlett Roney were drawn to the property four years ago, captivated by its serene atmosphere and deep historical roots. Steeped in local history, once belonging to a family that lived and worked the land for generations, the Roneys even discovered an old baptism hole, where local churches once baptized congregants. It's said to be near the path Daniel Boone traveled, with his carvings still visible on rock overhangs near the property. This mix of history, adventure, and natural beauty gives the resort a timeless, quiet feel.
As they dove into renovating a 100-year-old farmhouse, the Roneys also decided to create a unique getaway nestled in the backwoods of the property. They built three charming treehouses, offering couples a peaceful sanctuary among the trees. Designed with romance in mind, these treehouses provide everything needed to
slow down and reconnect. Surrounded by woods, creeks, and seasonal waterfalls, the setting is intimate and enchanting, with elevated decks offering breathtaking views. At night, the stars fill the sky, and a private fire pit invites you to cuddle up.

As you make your way through the rolling hills of Kentucky, you'll pass picturesque countryside, making the road trip itself part of the experience. Where rolling hills meet the spirit of Southern hospitality, one woman has led a small municipal airport into a thriving hub for general aviation, business and luxury travel. Heather Bay, CEO and Airport Manager/Director of Direct Flight Solutions (DFS), has spent the last 16 years at Lebanon Municipal Airport (LMA), where her commitment to providing personalized, top-tier service has earned her a loyal clientele and the affection of the local community.
“I’ve always believed that good customer service isn’t just a luxury, it’s an essential part of the aviation experience,” Heather explains. “When you’re flying for business or leisure, the airport should feel like a second home — welcoming, efficient, and stress-free.”
Under Heather’s leadership, DFS has built a reputation for offering airport concierge services, a level of service that’s more common in larger metropolitan airports but rare in smaller ones like Lebanon.
“Think of it airport concierge as the ultimate personalized travel experience,” Heather says. “We don’t just park planes. We anticipate needs. Whether it’s arranging transportation, booking a last-minute hotel room, or finding a great local
restaurant, we go above and beyond to make travel as smooth as possible for our clients.”
At DFS, it’s not unusual for Heather and her team to remember a client's favorite restaurant or even surprise them with a personalized anniversary gift. Whether it’s the seasoned pilot looking for a quick turn-around or a family visiting for the first time, Heather’s team is always ready to exceed expectations. The airport concierge is about more than just flying— it’s about the journey.
“Our airport is more than just a place to land, it’s a place where relationships are built,” she says. “Lebanon and Wilson County are home to people who genuinely care for one another, and that spirit flows through everything we do at DFS.”
LMA is a testament to the power of local business and aviation. General aviation, the category that encompasses everything from private planes to business jets, has grown rapidly, and DFS is at the forefront of this evolution. General aviation offers passengers unparalleled flexibility in terms of flight schedules, routes, and destinations, allowing travelers to go where they want, when they want, with a level of privacy and convenience not available on commercial airlines.
But it’s not just the flight service that has garnered attention. The history of LMA, founded in 1933 and officially opening in 1939, is also a point of local pride. “Our airport has been a cornerstone of aviation education for decades,” she says. “Cumberland University and Castle Heights Military Academy were integral to the Federal Aviation Cadet Program, and today we continue to educate the next generation of pilots and aircraft mechanics through institutions like Nationwide Flight School and the Baker School of Aeronautics.”
For Heather, Lebanon isn’t just a place of business; it’s where she and her family have grown their roots. “The people here are the reason we’ve stayed,” she reflects. “We’ve been embraced by the community since moving here from Alabama in the '70s. We support local businesses in every way possible, from sponsorships to shopping locally for gifts and team uniforms. This is home, and I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of it.”
In many ways, Heather’s story mirrors the love she feels for her community and her passion for aviation. It’s about connecting with people, solving problems, and providing experiences that leave a lasting impact. For Heather Bay, love's not only in the air, but on the ground too.

Valentine’s Day can be celebrated in many ways. Some people choose to go out for dinner and a movie, others hire a private chef for a romantic meal at home, some buy chocolates and find a fun activity in town, and some couples go out of town for an exciting getaway! One Valentine’s Day staple is giving a bouquet of flowers to someone special. Flowers are the gift that say I love you and can be given to your spouse, children, and mom. As a child, my father always got me roses on Valentine’s Day until I met my husband and he took over the tradition. A bouquet of flowers can say many things as each flower has a different meaning. If you’re wanting to say something special to the ones you love this Valentine’s Day, take a look at our list of three popular flowers, what they mean, and what flowers to pair them with.
LOVE & ROMANCE
Roses are by far the most popular flower to give on Valentine’s Day. They are beautiful by themselves or you can add Baby’s Breath to enhance the bouquet. These two make a romantic bouquet and are the perfect flowers to give to someone special.
PURITY & FERTILITY
Lilies come in a variety of colors and are eye-catching! For a softer looking bouquet, pair your lilies with carnations. These two combined are fun and heartwarming and are a great gift for anyone.
A bouquet of tulips will brighten any space! Adding some Ranunculus, also known as buttercup, will complement the tulips wonderfully. These flowers have a refreshing look that will decorate any home beautifully in a crystal vase.
