GET FISCALLY FIT IN 2021 To stay physically well you need to schedule regular checkups with your physician and perhaps work with a trainer for ongoing success. To stay financially well you should talk to a professional at least once a year (more if your situation is complicated or just hard to manage) regarding your goals and objectives for the next 12 months and beyond. It is exactly like going to the doctor where different circumstances mean different advice. Make 2021 the year for a clean bill of wealth and a successful future!

Happy Year HAPPY NEW YEAR! I think it’s very appropriate that we say “Happy New Year” because let’s be honest, isn’t that what we all really want … to be happy? But what makes us happy? When was the last time you took the time to sit down and ask yourself this question? Perhaps if you did, it would lead you down the right path to accomplishing your goals—to a healthier, better you. In this Health and Wellness issue, we uncovered stories of people who not only asked themselves this very question, but answered it, too ...

Vibe Nutrition’s Jen Kavensky learned early on that the best way to accomplish fitness and nutrition goals was to build a strong, supportive community (you walk through Vibe’s door and you can’t help but get energized by the “good vibes” and the delicious shakes). You become part of a family when you join Vibe. There’s a reason Jen refers to them as “the Cheers” of health and wellness ... because yes, everyone knows your name. Dr. David Williams and Dr. Alex Gibberman knew what didn’t make them happy, working in a stuffy, corporate optometrist office. So, they decided to start their own practice. They had a “vision” to open a practice where they could really connect with their patients—and that’s how 20/20 Eyecare was born. Happy doctors, happy

New Year, New Logo, Same Exceptional Service and Craftsmanship. After 15 years of transforming houses into dream homes, we decided it was time for a little transformation of our own. As our business and demand have increased over the years, we needed to make a choice – home remodeling outside or inside? Though our logo has changed, the things our clients love most about us have not: our friendly family service, skilled craftsmanship, and lifetime workmanship warranties.* We don’t just beautify your home, we make it stronger, too. Many thanks to our Loveland neighbors for helping us thrive in our own backyard. We look forward to many more years of helping you protect and enhance your home’s exterior.

LMRCA Virtual Annual Awards Like a lot of events, the Chamber’s Annual Awards Dinner looked a little different this year—instead of the usual sit-down dinner, the event went virtual ... but that didn’t change the energy or the outcome. This year’s emcee, Q102's Mollie Watson, announced each winner—and each lucky recipient was able to receive their award in-person. Congratulations to these outstanding local stars! “WE HELP INDIVIDUALS TO BE THEIR BEST,
PHYSICALLY,”
SAYS
CHRIS
WITZGALL, CO-OWNER OF D1 TRAINING. “But more important, we also help them to be their best—mentally and spiritually.” D1 Training offers an alternative to traditional gyms through both online and in-person workouts— including Scholastic, Pro or Adult training. After an initial consult, those training programs are customized to suit whatever unique objectives clients may have. “It’s amazing to see how many lives we’ve already impacted,” Chris says of D1’s opening in June 2019. “We take special pride in forming relationships with our community members through our group or personal workout programs—because that’s the best way we can help them achieve their goals.” Ongoing relationships with other local businesses Café,
and
Ramsey’s
organizations—Balance Trailside,
JackRabbit,
Narrow Path Brewing, CancerFree KIDS and more—allow D1 to strengthen the greater community, as well. It’s all part of D1’s mission to put professional coaches, sports-science-backed programs and customized, state-of-the-art equipment to work for its clients. “The healthier they are, the happier they are,” D1 marketing advisor Nicole Menkhaus explains. “Which, in turn, leads to a thriving community.” “That’s what D1 is about,” Nicole says. “Improving quality of life through exercise and community.”

DEFYING THE TRADITIONAL GYM STEREOTYPE WITH D1 TRAINING
Sport Meets Science
D1 TRAINING D1Training.com/Cincy-North/ 9573 Fields Ertel Rd. 513.434.1992
ALEX THOMPSON, 37 BOOT CAMP, STRENGTH AND HYBRID WORKOUTS “I’d always been intimidated by gyms,” Alex admits. “But made the decision to improve my health with help from professionals.” The coaches at D1 devoted time to ensure his technique improved— and that improved his confidence as well. “No matter what level you are, the coaches work with you and encourage you to do your best. They understand your personal goals, and really help you reach them. That attention really helped motivate me to become the best version of myself.” At D1, Alex has been pursuing a combination of boot camp, strength and hybrid workouts. The results? He’s much more physically fit: losing body fat, gaining muscle and endurance—and he credits D1 for it all. “The group workouts really push me and challenge me to do my best. I’ve gone from avoiding gyms to looking forward to workouts.” Alex also points out that he sees the staff at D1 as more than just service providers. “I feel the strong family spirit of D1,” he says. “They immediately made me feel welcome.” Alex recommends D1 Boot Camp workouts for anyone hoping to get fit in a positive, family environment. “I came in as a beginner,” he stresses. “But even fitness junkies would enjoy the variety of workouts and exercises the coaches create.” CONTINUED >

MICHELE ANTON, 55 BOOT CAMP For some, like Michele, early morning workouts are preferable—and D1 is happy to accommodate. “Working out in the morning really sets my mood for the day,” Michele says. “I have energy, feel motivated, and it helps me to eat healthy the rest of the day.” She also points out the physical and emotional benefits of her training, which include increased muscle definition and endurance. “I used to get winded hiking up hills or walking up stairs,” she says. “That’s no longer the case.” Michele recommends D1’s Boot Camp program for anybody who feels stagnant in their current workout. She also offers a word of advice for those curious about the facility itself: “I drove by D1 for 3 months before I finally checked it out,” she admits. “I’m so glad I did—the staff has been welcoming and friendly since day one.”
NOAH SPENCER, 17 PREP CLASS, ONE-ON-ONE “D1 has been a total game-changer for me,” Noah says, crediting the knowledge of his personal coaches at D1 in helping him become a better athlete. When he’s not taking to the field as quarterback for Kings High School, Noah completes customized sports training workouts at D1. Those workouts have made a big difference in his performance on the field. “I’d recommend D1 to all high school athletes, especially those wanting to take the next step,” he says. “I feel 10 times stronger since I got here,” he adds, pointing out that the training allows him to better his mechanics for football. But at D1, physical fitness is only part of the overall reward—and Noah is quick to point out those other benefits, as well. “Mentally, I feel like I can do more than I’d ever thought. Emotionally, I feel great.” “The coaches at D1 encourage and support you,” Noah says. “No matter what.” Ready to get your own program started? D1 also offers a “try us for free” option. Which means you’ve got nothing to lose, right?

Use artificial tears. The average person blinks 10 times per minute. That same person will see their blink rate cut in half while concentrating on their computer or smartphone. It’s a good idea to use artificial tears as a supplement to your natural tear production. Put the phone down before bed. There is substantial evidence that increased screen time around bedtime interrupts our sleeping pattern. Update your prescription. While there is no evidence that staring at the screen all day damages the eyes, we do know that increased screen time exacerbates underlying eye conditions such as astigmatism, farsightedness and nearsightedness, which can ultimately cause headaches. Back away from the computer. Increasing the distance from your computer will lessen the eye’s workload.

START THE YEAR WITH A TOTAL SELF-CARE “SKIN•VEST•MENT”

If preventing or lessening fine lines and wrinkles on your face is tops on your list, injectables (more commonly known as Botox and filler) are popular options. Moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s-feet and forehead lines are no match for Botox, whereas the gel-like substance of fillers restores lost volume, smooths lines and softens creases in the skin. The newest addition to this lineup is PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which uses your own plasma for filler.

For the staff at Embody SKIN Care & Medical Spa, skin health isn’t a fad or a resolution that should fade by the end of January. And the cutting-edge medical treatments and products offered at the spa are just the first step. “Healthy skin is for all ages, men and women,” says Heather Buckles, Embody owner and Advanced Esthetician. “It’s always a great time to start investing in one’s skin.”

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CAN BE A TRICKY SUBJECT, AND THERE’S CERTAINLY NO LACK OF
CONTRADICTORY
INFORMATION
AND
ADVICE COMING AT US FROM ALL AVENUES, MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHICH PATH IS CORRECT. But what if we told you you didn’t have to choose? What if the road to a healthier you was multifaceted—tailored to suit not only your nutritional needs, but your lifestyle, too? Turns out, for the past two years, Vibe Nutrition has been preaching this one-size-does-NOT-fitall approach from their low-key brick-and-mortar protein-rich shake/energy tea bar off of LovelandMadeira Road. Started by wellness coach Jen Kavensky—aided by her three daughters and a large team of health coaches—Vibe is a club that empowers people to live a healthy, active lifestyle in a way that suits the individual. Empowering being the key. JEN’S JOURNEY Vibe started about 12 years ago, growing from Jen’s desire to lose weight, get healthy and inspire others to take that journey with her. “I always wanted a place where our team of coaches could come together and change the community of Loveland ... I wanted to be a role model for others—if they saw I could do it, then they could, too! I feel better at 50 than I did at 20,” she says. “And our team of coaches gets to help those who are willing to take control of their overall well-being.” To that end, Jen says she makes sure the whole Vibe team makes you feel welcome from the second you walk in the door, keeping the atmosphere upbeat, low-stress and totally positive to make everyone feel like part of a family. “You can come in, have tea, and just talk with us,” Jen says. “I let people come in and get to know each other and introduce each other. Once you walk through our doors, you’ll feel at home.” Photo credit: Vibe Nutrition 28

And if you’re just curious? Newcomers can stop in for a no-pressure visit, even sample a few products at no cost—Jen and her team work hard to maintain a very laidback atmosphere for everyone from the start. When ready to take the next step, clients get a complimentary health evaluation—and from there, can choose to take advantage of any of Vibe’s other offerings, including wellness coaching, nutritional counseling, healthy meal planning, weight loss and fitness challenges, teas, nutritional shakes, drumming classes and more! VIBE NUTRITION MEETS VIBE FITNESS As luck would have it, Vibe Nutrition moved next door to the gym 650 Fitness (owned and operated by John Kennedy). Jen says she started to go there to workout, and the gym’s members started coming to Vibe for shakes and teas—many of John and Jen’s clients were crossing over to both businesses. Naturally, a blossoming partnership formed. John suggested a collaboration and eventually, 650 rebranded as Vibe Fitness. Now, instructors teach Vibe’s Drumming and Pound classes out of the gym.

Shakes and Teas: Get healthy on-the-go with a low-calorie, protein-packed shake. Choose from tons of delicious flavors such as orange creamsicle and Butterfinger. Teas also come in a variety of amazing flavors, and you can customize your drink with supplements as well.
Meal Plans: Vibe will personalize a plan for you depending on your goals, budget and time. They’ll review your calorie intake, your protein needs, etc., and go over what to eat, what supplements to use and how to use them.

Nutrition Analysis: Vibe conducts free wellness assessments—plus you can try their products and classes to find the perfect fit that will set you up for success. “At the end of the day it’s about being healthy and aging well,” Jen says.

INSPIRED BY (CONTINUED) The two facilities also offer eight-week “get healthy” challenges where you can win money and have fun in a literal healthy competition. Jen adds that challenge groups also learn about nutrition and create long-lasting friendships. CHANGE YOUR MINDSET, CHANGE YOUR LIFE As someone who has struggled her whole life with eating, Jen knows now that mindset is everything and it’s a “must” in order to change. Even though right now, with everything going on in the world, it’s especially hard to remain in a positive mindset, she maintains that staying active is key. She recommends Vibe’s online training programs—as well as other online challenges you can plug into like classes over Zoom—for keeping your health on track. You also can still stop in the shop or they’ll bring you a shake or tea curbside! MIX AND MATCH YOUR OWN VIBE “You can mix and match—grab a shake and leave, just do drumming, never get a shake—we don’t care, as long as you leave here feeling better than you came in ... that’s our goal,” Jen says.
Classes and Personal Training: The club is all about getting people together of every age, size and fitness level in a positive space. Choose from Drumming, Pound and FitCamp classes or attend personal training sessions at Vibe Fitness.
Vibe’s gym, Vibe Fitness, is in the process of moving to a larger space—stay tuned for more updates coming soon. And check out Vibe Nutrition’s second location, now open in Milford! Facebook.com/VibeNutritionClub/ 10484 Loveland-Madeira Rd. | 513.387.9745

Top left: For some, the weight of the shoe is super important—if shoes are too heavy, they can feel like they’re slowing you down. Kinvara 11 is a great lightweight training shoe. Similar to the Bondi, it offers a lower heel drop. And less cushioning means you’re more in-tune with the ground you’re running on, which some say allows for a more natural gait.

Cascadia 15 is a great option for the off-road runner, featuring aggressive tread, a built-in rock plate, toe protection, and more water-resistance than the average running shoe (with roughly the same life expectancy as its road-running counterpart).
