Sharing The Love

When I tell people I’m from Loveland I always get the same response—“Oh, I love visiting Loveland. It’s such a great town. Everyone is so friendly!” And I have to agree, because, it’s true.

Our town radiates the theme of this issue, Local Love. That’s why we wanted to highlight the many murals that grace Loveland’s walls. These works of art celebrate history, community and, well, love.

It’s why we wanted to feature E+O Kitchen – Loveland, the newest restaurant to open its doors. The owners of this restaurant decided to open their third location right here on Karl Brown Way because they recognized what a special community we have. They loved the vibe and the people.

And it’s why we wanted to share all the happenings at Hops & Berry. This local taproom never has a dull night. They continue to offer unique weekly events that bring people together downtown.

As Loveland continues to grow, we look forward to sharing even more stories— and of course, sharing the love!

This Year, Enjoy Being Outdoors a Whole Lot More

A Sundance all-season pergola is one of the best, most cost-effective ways to achieve the covered deck or patio you’ve been dreaming of. But don’t just take our word for it.

“I would highly recommend Sundance louvered roofs to anyone looking for a motorized louvered roof system. After having four different bids, Sundance came out on top with the best price and product. It’s sturdy, well-designed and has a good, clean look.”

“We had our Sundance louvered pergola installed three years ago, and we LOVE IT! It is honestly the best improvement we’ve ever made to our home. Our house is cooler in the summer and helps us enjoy our backyard all during the spring, summer and fall. Sundance is the best!”

Your Table Is Waiting

Where Earth

Meets Ocean

Walking into an E+O Kitchen feels like walking into your favorite coastal vacation home—its unique design and gorgeous interior are like stepping out of Cincinnati, while the friendly staff welcome you as if you’re a part of their own family. Whitewashed walls accentuate English walnut tabletops. Earthy tones of gray and brown make the living plant walls pop with cheery color. The floor plan feels open, yet still maintains a cozy feel, creating an intimacy that encourages conversation. With two locations—Hyde Park (their flagship spot) and down at the Banks—E+O Kitchen is now bringing their amazing concept and mouthwatering menu right here to Loveland.

E+O Kitchen – Loveland takes over the street-facing corner on Karl Brown Way in the heart of historic downtown. To learn a bit more about their concept (and why they’ve decided to bring E+O to Loveland), I caught up with Kasha Bucher, assistant manager and social media coordinator, and Tim Weiss, business partner, both of whom were excited to shed some light and share their enthusiasm about joining the Loveland community.

But to fully appreciate this new restaurant, we should start at the beginning. E+O stands for Earth and Ocean, which ties into their mission statement as a whole. “The E+O Experience is defined by many things … world-class ingredients and superior flavors, a commitment to excellent service, and the warm, inviting, ambiance our guests have come to know and love,” explains Kasha.

Put simply, E+O is dedicated to using natural ingredients to create beautiful dishes with dynamic, eclectic tastes that are unlike anything you can find elsewhere. And their business model? It’s all about freshness.

“Everything is made from scratch, that day,” Tim says. “We plan and work to sell through all of our products each day, which ensures our food is really fresh.”

The menu at Loveland replicates the offerings at both Hyde Park and the Banks, featuring everything from salads, sushi rolls and fried rice to Buddha bowls, tacos and handhelds—think wagyu burgers and chicken sandwiches.

But E+O is more than just a restaurant. With Chef Ben Toney, the corporate chef at the helm, E+O strives for consistency and excellence—whether that’s for their everyday fresh menu, a catering order, or the meal prepping service they hope to roll out in the coming months. Want to host an event of your own at their new spot? They can do that, too. “Ben does all the menu planning—he makes sure we’re serving quality food that people crave,” Kasha says of their star chef.

“WE’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT OFFERING DELICIOUS, HIGH-QUALITY FOOD IN AN INVITING, COMMUNITYFOCUSED ATMOSPHERE ... AND LOVELAND IS THE PERFECT PLACE TO DO THAT.” – E+O KITCHEN TEAM

And that’s not all. Ben and his crew support local teams, too, working with professional athletes and dietitians both around the city and close to Loveland … showing that E+O takes their job of feeding the community at large very seriously.

Most of all, E+O knows that to create a space that’s warm and welcoming, it all starts with the employees. “What we feel is most important are the people that we hire that join the team. The culture and the people are what make us,” Tim remarks.

“And we take care of our employees … if you want to treat the guests right, you probably should start with treating your employees right,” Tim continues, summing it up beautifully. The staff at E+O is energetic and engaged. They are talented. They have dynamic personalities. They communicate well, as a result of the focus E+O puts on training and skills that are applicable both in the restaurant and outside of it. This creates a staff who wants to treat their guests well—yet another layer to that genuine atmosphere that E+O cultivates.

“We’ve been searching out other areas, but Loveland has a really unique feel to it—this community is like a family. When I go out to Loveland, I don’t feel like I’m in Cincinnati. It kind of reminds me of Northern Michigan, Northern California, or down by the seaside in Florida ... a coastal town. We thought Loveland would be a great fit for the E+O brand since it’s a very outdoorsy, healthy-lifestyle-driven community with the bike path and the river going right through it,” Tim posits.

“We believe our restaurant will not only meet the growing demand for innovative dining options but will also become a place where people can gather, share great meals, and have the best culinary experience,” finishes Kasha.

With happy hours Monday through Friday, and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, E+O Kitchen –Loveland can’t wait for you to join them and experience their fresh take on extraordinary dining.

skincare myths, debunked

Embody SKIN Care Separates Fact From Fiction

Growing up in the early 2000s, the self-care and beauty industries taught us a pretty basic routine: wash your face with Neutrogena, swipe with a Clearasil pore-cleansing wipe, lather on Bath and Body Works lotion, and finish with a spray and walk through of Victoria’s Secret fragrance mist. There was a rumor you should start getting Botox by 30 or you’d look like a centenarian.

Myth #2:

I don’t need to wear sunscreen in the winter.

Wrong again. “Even when it’s cold, sun is getting through the clouds,” she explains. “While clouds filter some UVB rays, they don’t block UVA rays, which are a risk factor for melanoma.” Proof positive? Google “Truck Driver Skin Damage,” and you’ll see photos of people whose faces have been impacted by the sun on one side of their face, but not the other. Wear that sunscreen!

Myth #1:

If I get a dermaplane treatment, my hair will grow back thicker, faster and darker.

False. “It is biologically impossible for hair to grow back thicker, faster or darker because of a dermaplaning treatment,” Heather says. “Dermaplaning is an excellent exfoliation technique and anti-aging treatment when performed by a licensed aesthetician.”

Nowadays, TikTokers and influencers share their GRWM (that’s “Get Ready With Me”) videos showcasing “musthave” products or facial routines. So how do we separate clickbait from reality?

Of course, we turned to Heather Buckles at Embody SKIN Care & Medical Spa in Loveland for her expertise—separating old skincare myths from their correct, contemporary remedies.

Not only is Embody local and convenient, they’re a welcoming team of medical experts—doctors, nurse practitioners, advanced aestheticians, permanent makeup artists—setting high standards to meet their clients’ expectations.

Embody cares about conducting thorough consultations and educating clients about options that are truly meant for you.

Personal note: I received an Embody SKIN Care gift card in my stocking after I wrote this article, and they made me feel comfortable and exceeded my expectations ... I already love the results!

So whether you want to take care of yourself or simply treat yourself, a visit to Embody should definitely make your must-do list.

Myth #4:

There is no specific order when applying my products.

Again, incorrect. “The easiest rule of thumb to share is go from lightest texture to richest,” advises Heather. “And you always want your antioxidant to be applied first on clean, dry skin.”

Myth #3:

Retinol is an absolute must in any anti-aging routine.

Not really. “Yes, Retinol is a fantastic anti-aging ingredient—in fact, it’s considered the ‘Gold Standard’ anti-aging product by most dermatologists,” Heather shares. “But in reality, it just doesn’t work for everyone. Ask your aesthetician for alternative products and different application techniques.”

BRACE Yourself

NEW 3D TECHNOLOGY IS MAKING DENTAL WORK

For most of her life, Angela Lattire’s teeth have been a source of pain—both physical and emotional. “As an adolescent, I wore some awful appliances to fix my overbite,” she shares. At 18, Angela had jaw surgery, and eight teeth were removed. Then more braces. Every attempt to fix the situation, however, only made it worse. It also came with a loss of self-esteem.

“I was always self-conscious—you can’t see my teeth when I smile,” Angela remembers. “It made me look old.”

Now at age 43, Angela is finally on the path to getting the smile she’s always wanted—thanks to technology that uses 3D imaging and printing to create customized braces that perfectly fit every unique nook and cranny of her teeth and gums. More interestingly, going to the orthodontist has become a family affair.

It began three years ago when now 10-year-old daughter, Ella, needed early intervention to correct a crossbite. A referral led to Dr. Jacob Stadiem at Northeast Orthodontic Specialists. During Ella’s appointments, Angela began to share her own dental history with Dr. Stadiem—but it wasn’t until her 13-year-old son, Mason, became a patient last year that Angela decided to try again.

“The LightForce 3D technology has changed so much about getting braces,” Dr. Stadiem says. “Once I do the scans and create a design, it’s digitally sent to LightForce in Boston where they are printed.” The resulting braces fit so well, they require no adjustment when fitted into a patient’s mouth. And Angela chose clear braces, which makes them barely noticeable.

Of course, technology hasn’t solved all the issues. “Getting braces is moving teeth, which is an inflammatory process, so there’s going to be some discomfort,” Dr. Stadiem shares. “But not nearly as much, because of the lighter forces involved.”

Time between appointments is longer, too, from the previous 4-to-6 weeks to every 10 weeks on average. Patients don’t need to visit as much—less appointments, shorter treatment time. The typical two-year process of having braces is around 18 months for many patients with 3D-printed braces.

“Angela’s issues are more complicated, so she’ll probably be looking at a little over two years of treatment. We’ll bring her upper teeth down and in, which will definitely give her a full smile and make her look younger.”

“Life’s too short not to smile,” Dr. Stadiem continues, smiling himself. For too long, he believes the focus was getting teeth to fit together perfectly. “If we don’t address each patient’s smile aesthetic, then we’re doing them a disservice.”

Dr. Stadiem smiles a lot, which summarizes his whole approach to life, especially work. “When kids finally get their braces removed, there’s a celebration in the office.”

Perhaps the best part? “We give them a chocolate caramel apple from Divine’s European Chocolate— something they haven’t been able to eat for awhile,” Dr. Stadiem says. One more treat for Angela and the kids to look forward to.

NOSorthodontics.com | 3284 Montgomery Rd, Loveland / 9380 Kenwood Rd, Cincinnati 513.793.4770 If we don’t address each patient’s smile aesthetic, then we’re doing them a disservice.

OPENING DOORS

Garage doors aren’t usually top of mind for homeowners—until an issue that could have been prevented with some quick maintenance makes their day go downhill, fast.

Fortunately, husband and wife team Motoi (“Mo”) and Kierstin Nishihata are standing by to help. The couple operate ProLift Garage Doors of Loveland, and they know a thing or two about garage door maintenance, repair and upgrades.

“As soon as we started this business, a torsion spring on our own garage door broke,” Mo explains. “It makes you think about how much we take garage doors for granted, especially if they’re a main access point to your house. They can be critical machines, with lots of moving parts.”

So with care and prevention in mind, here’s how it works: Kierstin and Mo dispatch a fully trained specialist to your home, who is able to quickly provide a comprehensive and no-cost multipoint inspection. Sometimes, as with spotting torsion spring issues, that simple inspection can prevent the risk of physical harm; other times, it simply contributes to a safer and more energy-efficient home.

Kierstin and Mo Nishihata

Mo and Kierstin are quick to recall how, not long after acquiring their own ProLift franchise, it became apparent just how helpful their services could be.

“We had just completed an onboarding with our first tech when, while walking back to his truck, he noticed an older neighbor struggling with a garage door,” Kierstin remembers. “He introduced himself as a ProLift garage tech, and was able to quickly diagnose that it was an issue with the opener, which needed to be replaced.”

ProLift, which operates franchises nationwide, was a great fit for what the couple was looking for in a business model.

“First, it aligned with our values,” Mo explains. “They have a very strong mission to partner with local communities, and they actively participate in the nonprofit initiative, Kids-Lift [which supports vulnerable

kids in our own community]. Additionally, we were really attracted to the business model— because it’s not just about business, it’s about doing the right thing for the community … supporting schools and other nonprofits that we can work with.”

Plus, there’s a very good reason homeowners should pay attention to garage doors, the couple explains. Kierstin shares that in Cincinnati in 2024, insulated steel garage doors were responsible for an over 150% return on investment. Nationwide, she adds, four-section galvanized and insulated steel garage door replacements are currently the No. 1 household maintenance activity that provides the most significant ROI.

And ProLift provides more than just education and support. As part of the ProLift network, they can also provide top-tier upgrades (including “brighter and quieter openers”).

CONTINUED >

“We have premium suppliers, custom color choices, and European-designed (but American-built) options,” Mo shares.

Kierstin stresses that ProLift Garage Doors of Loveland exists to assist neighbors. “Our approach is long-term. When we meet a potential customer, we want to partner with them for the duration of their home ownership journey, enabling them to learn ways they can make the most of their investment.”

“IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT

BUSINESS, IT’S ABOUT DOING THE RIGHT THING FOR THE COMMUNITY… SUPPORTING SCHOOLS AND OTHER NONPROFITS THAT WE CAN WORK WITH.” - MOE

KEEPING DOORS OPEN

During colder months of the year, most homeowners are accustomed to conducting routine maintenance that keeps everything running smoothly around the house. Garage door maintenance and care, Mo and Kierstin say, should be part of that routine.

Here are some of their top wintertime garage door maintenance tips:

1. Check to ensure your weatherstripping is in good shape. “That’s what keeps the garage insulated and cuts down on your energy bill,” Kierstin offers.

2. Clean the garage door surface. “Cleaning the surface of your garage door not only makes it look better,” Mo points out, “but it also protects against wear from severe weather.”

3. Check batteries. “Wireless keypads and remotes always seem to go out at the worst time,” Kierstin says. “Check those before you find yourself stuck outside in the cold.”

Exploring—and Honoring—the Amazing Art, Color and Craft ... Right in Our Own Backyard

In Loving Color

The city of Loveland is a living canvas. Bold, vibrant murals splash across its historic streets, weaving stories of history, people and community pride. Each masterpiece transforms brick walls into bursts of color and meaning, turning every corner into a moment of discovery. In Loveland, art isn’t always framed—it’s alive and waiting to be found.

Angels By the Trail

The Angels by the Trail mural transformed a plain, industrial wall on the Eads Hardware building into a radiant memorial along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. Designed by David Jonathan Creative, the 65x20-foot graffiti-style masterpiece features vibrant angel wings surrounded by the names of local school-aged children who passed too soon. Celebrating their lives with bold colors and joyful whimsy, the mural is a heartfelt tribute and a source of beauty for the community. The site also includes benches and landscaping, offering a serene space to reflect and honor these cherished Angels.

Cappy’s Wall

The vibrant mural on the side of Cappy’s Taproom and Bottle Shop is a colorful celebration of community and nature, aptly entitled “Livin’ the Dream.” This striking artwork captures the charm of Loveland with its serene river, lush greenery, and hot air balloons drifting across a radiant sky. The mural embodies the spirit of Loveland’s outdoor culture and welcoming vibe, serving as both a local landmark and a stunning backdrop for visitors. It’s a perfect reflection of Loveland’s unique character, inviting everyone to stop, smile, and soak in the dream.

Fraternal Order of Eagles Wall

The stunning mural on the side of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in downtown Loveland soars with pride and beauty. At its heart, a powerful eagle flies over the peaceful river, symbolizing strength and unity. The Loveland Castle stands prominently in the background, honoring the town’s history, while the bike trail winds through lush greenery, reflecting the active, outdoor spirit of the city. The bold “Loveland 3006” emblem ties it all together, representing the Eagles’ local chapter. This eye-catching mural is a celebration of Loveland’s cherished landmarks and the community that thrives around them.

SAW Pilates Wall

The SAW Pilates building on Wall Street radiates joy and color, thanks to a striking mural by acclaimed local artist Tom Post. Inspired by owner Annette Friesner’s children, the artwork features their daughter Wren’s wild golden curls surrounded by vibrant flowers, fluttering butterflies and symbolic birds—a raven for brother Silas and a blue jay for brother Abe. Created after COVID to help bring life back to the community, the mural reflects resilience, family and renewal. Its striking design not only brightens a busy Loveland intersection, but also tells a heartfelt story, transforming the building into a vibrant landmark full of personal meaning and community pride.

Brown’s Crossing Train

Tucked on the side of the iconic “Brown Building” at Jackson Street Market, this dynamic mural brings the past roaring to life. It’s a tribute to the railroad roots that once fueled this town, where steam engines thundered through the Pennsylvania Railroad Park, and daily mail and passengers poured in. The mural captures a time when Loveland was a bustling railroad hub, transporting both goods and people to Cincinnati in just over half an hour. Created by Higher Level Art Inc., it’s a colorful homage to the town’s rich history.

West Loveland Ave. Mural

In late 2022, Loveland High School senior Louise Vermeil brought a splash of creativity to West Loveland Ave. when she transformed a dull retaining wall into a spirited mural celebrating Loveland’s charm. Showcasing landmarks like the Little Miami River, Loveland Castle and Historic Downtown, the mural pops with whimsical details—bikes, kayaks and Vermeil’s signature bold colors. Inspired to beautify her hometown, Louise pitched the idea to city leaders, who embraced her vision and helped bring to life a mural that now radiates pride and joy across the entire community.

Building the Perfect Bouquet

Valentine’s Day can be celebrated in many ways. Some people choose to go out for dinner and a movie, others hire a private chef for a romantic meal at home, some buy chocolates and find a fun activity in town, and some couples go out of town for an exciting getaway! One Valentine’s Day staple is giving a bouquet of flowers to someone special. Flowers are the gift that say I love you and can be given to your spouse, children, and mom. As a child, my father always got me roses on Valentine’s Day until I met my husband and he took over the tradition. A bouquet of flowers can say many things as each flower has a different meaning. If you’re wanting to say something special to the ones you love this Valentine’s Day, take a look at our list of three popular flowers, what they mean, and what flowers to pair them with.

USE THIS GUIDE WHEN ORDERING VALENTINE’S DAY BOUQUETS

Roses

LOVE & ROMANCE

Roses are by far the most popular flower to give on Valentine’s Day. They are beautiful by themselves or you can add Baby’s Breath to enhance the bouquet. These two make a romantic bouquet and are the perfect flowers to give to someone special.

Lilies

PURITY & FERTILITY

Lilies come in a variety of colors and are eye-catching! For a softer looking bouquet, pair your lilies with carnations. These two combined are fun and heartwarming and are a great gift for anyone.

Tulips

PERFECT FOR DEEP LOVE

A bouquet of tulips will brighten any space! Adding some Ranunculus, also known as buttercup, will complement the tulips wonderfully. These flowers have a refreshing look that will decorate any home beautifully in a crystal vase.

DIY VALENTINES

Simple Projects to Celebrate at Home

The first Valentines were handmade in the 18th century, long before printing presses and mass-produced options. Today, handmade signifies the ultimate in personal mots d’amour.  Enjoy these sweet projects as a couple, a family, or with friends.

1. Arts

Create heart ornaments to hang on a Valentine’s Day tree. The ornaments can be used as clue cards for a Valentine's Day scavenger hunt. Participants find their picture on the tree and hunt for a hidden treasure.

2.Sweets

A home-based holiday is made complete with a dessert table. Whether made from scratch or store bought, a collection of decorated confections is as beautiful as the treats are delectable to eat.

3.Sentiments

Poetry is a most personal way to express your heart. No need to be intimidated by haiku, a short form of Japanese poetry. While there are several variations of the form, a traditional place to begin is with a seasonal word that divides 17 syllables into three lines of five/ seven/five. Simple and sweet.
