DANE
A few years back, I would have paused when asked, “Where’s home?” Having lived in several places in the States and abroad, I never really planted a flag until I arrived in Media. I have my wife Karin, who is from the area, to thank (or curse on snow days) for that.
When people ask, “How do you like living in Media?” I honestly can say I’ve never lived in a more welcoming community. I know my neighbors and greet them on State Street and in the coffee shops. I cheer our local parades and sing along at Rose Tree Park concerts. I watched the Little League World Series with my breath held. Yes….Media is truly idyllic.
Author Wendy Wunder said, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” As we thought about this Home & Design issue - we wanted to highlight local people to make your home even more special.
This month, we jump right in and explore home services businesses that are next level. Each service listed is a trusted resource, many of which we have personally used in our own homes. We feel like the lucky ones as we were able to learn more about the businesses and individuals that comprise this community and hope that the small lens into their lives and work might guide you in your next home project.
We also showcase ways to better enjoy your surroundings—because your home is, or should be, your sanctuary. These local businesses (and people) are dedicated to transforming your home into a space that truly feels like home.
We’re very proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thanks for letting us be a part of your home.

Kitchen design has entered a transformative era, where innovation meets artistry to create spaces that are not only functional but also personal and sustainable. With advancements in technology, materials and craftsmanship, today’s kitchens are tailored to meet the evolving needs and tastes of homeowners.
According to interior designer Laura McCroskey, kitchens today are about more than just cooking—they’re an expression of personal lifestyle.

“Kitchen design has entered an exciting time where the possibilities feel limitless,” says McCroskey. “For me, the design process starts before lines are ever drawn on a construction document. I believe in creating spaces that enhance life, both functionally and aesthetically. The design process begins with a discussion about what a space needs to do, and what aesthetic will bring a spark to the homeowner.
I also firmly believe that when designing a kitchen, one should walk out a recipe to make sure everything is in the right place to suit one’s lifestyle. Cooking zones are imperative to a well-designed kitchen.”
Modern kitchens emphasize zoning, or the creation of dedicated areas for preparation, cooking and storage, to enhance workflow and functionality. These zones not only improve efficiency but also contribute to a cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic.
Cutting-edge rendering software, utilizing technology similar to that used in gaming, allows homeowners to visualize their dream kitchens in hyper-realistic detail. While these tools inspire creativity, McCroskey advises balancing ambitious ideas with practical implementation to achieve the best results.
Technology, sustainability and customization are driving the revolution in kitchen design. Advanced appliances are at the forefront, enhancing convenience while aligning with a growing emphasis on eco-friendliness.
“From vacuum-sealing drawers that preserve food and reduce waste to smart appliances controlled by your phone, the emphasis is on efficiency and sustainability. Functional storage built seamlessly into marble countertops and oversized workstation sinks are making daily tasks easier and more enjoyable. Thoughtful features like composting compartments
and advanced food preservation methods reflect a broader effort to minimize waste and reduce environmental impact.”
Custom cabinetry that maximizes every inch of space minimizes waste while optimizing functionality.
“Forget the limits of traditional cabinetry. Blind corners, tiny nooks and hidden areas are now designed to maximize storage. Automated drawers and pop-up outlets are becoming increasingly common, marrying convenience with sleek aesthetics.”
Design trends have also evolved, becoming more flexible to reflect individual tastes.
“While white kitchens remain timeless and black adds drama, bleached woods continue to be popular. Style trends are no longer as rigid—whether you prefer modern, transitional, or traditional designs, you can create a kitchen tailored to your unique vision. There’s no limit to what you can achieve with today’s tools and technologies. The goal is to create spaces that resonate deeply with the people who live in them.”
The kitchen is the heart of every home and represents a space of endless possibility. Whether your aesthetic leans modern, farmhouse or somewhere in between, the tools and technologies available today make it easier than ever to bring your vision to life.
Beneficial for You, Good for the Planet, Great Tax Savings, and Surprisingly Low Financing
As the world steadily pivots towards sustainability, people are turning to renewable energy solutions and saving money. Residential and Commercial Solar Specialist Albie Delgado sheds light on the benefits of solar energy, the process of installation, and why homeowners should consider making the switch. He focuses on a comprehensive solution to energy efficiency.
“The utility companies are still using fossil fuels, coal, and nuclear,” Delgado explains. “With solar,
we use the best form of renewable energy, the sun.” There are homeowner’s financial incentives that make the switch even more appealing. Delgado continues, “In New Jersey or Pennsylvania, they get two major incentives: a 30% federal tax credit and an SREC (Solar Renewable Energy Certificate). The state, because you’re helping them meet their mandate, is going to pay you an income for 15 years, anywhere between $2k-$8k depending on the size of the system.” These incentives, along with the ability to

Through SunnyMac Solar, Delgado also provides roofing services using a top-tier manufacturer, Owens Corning materials. He says, “The roof comes with a 50-year warranty, a range of seven colors to choose from, and is 50% cheaper than your traditional roofer.”
Delgado emphasizes the importance of personalized consultations. “Get the facts. Get the
Delgado estimates, “Homeowners are going to save probably between $30k to $40k over a 25-year period.” This is achieved through locking in energy rates, avoiding increases, and generating energy credits through bidirectional meters. For those concerned about excess energy, Delgado assures, “After 12 consecutive months, if there’s any energy CONTINUED >
information,” because not every home is suitable for solar, and Delgado is upfront about this. “We primarily work with single-family homes. Condos, mobile homes, and row homes typically don’t qualify,” he says. He begins every client interaction by assessing the property via Google Maps satellite view. Factors such as tree cover, dormers, and skylights are evaluated to determine if the house is “conducive for solar.” Delgado also inquires about lifestyle specifics like electric cars, swimming pools, and hot tubs.
Despite the detailed evaluation and planning, the installation process itself is impressively swift. “Installation is one day,” Delgado states. But obtaining permits and coordinating with utility companies can extend the timeline. “In New Jersey, I can always say 90 days is a safe number. In Pennsylvania, it’s tougher—six to nine months if dealing with PECO.” SunnyMac Solar manages all the heavy lifting, including permits, township coordination, and assigning a project manager to each client.
SunnyMac Solar offers 100% financing in Pennsylvania with a 25-year fixed term at an interest rate of 4.99%. There are no prepayment penalties, and the goal is to guarantee monthly payments are on par with or lower than current electricity bills. “With solar, you lock in the rate for 25 years,” Delgado explains. Additionally, Delgado shares an interesting observation: “In the last 12 months, insurance companies have been sending out drones to inspect roofs and sending homeowners letters if they need to replace them.” These homeowners often reach out to SunnyMac because they can save a lot of money and no money out of pocket with financing, while addressing roofing and solar needs simultaneously.
SunnyMac Solar’s panels have a lifespan of 30 to 35 years and maintenance is minimal. Delgado advises, “If we go weeks without rain and you see dust or pollen, just rinse them off with a garden hose.” This is an added bonus for homeowners seeking a hands-off, long-term energy solution.
Homeowners have reported high satisfaction due to their reduced energy bills, but also the lessened environmental impact. As Delgado sums it up, “We’re helping the environment, avoiding rate increases, and offering tremendous value with no money out of pocket.” With solar, the future looks brighter, one panel at a time.

St. Patrick’s Day began in 1631 when the Church established a Feast Day honoring St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland. Irish Christians removed the restrictions associated with Lent on this day and threw large parties and feasts.
Green beer is commonly attributed to physician Thomas H. Curtin who created it around 1914 for the Schnorrer Club in the Bronx.
The first Margarita is said to have been created between 1938 and 1942. Here’s an upscale version of the green cocktail to enjoy on St. Patrick’s Day.
ingredients:
• 1/2 oz. Fresh-squeezed lime juice
• 2 oz. Margaritaville Silver Tequila (made with agave) or any tequila blanco
• 1 oz. Jameson or other Irish Whiskey
• 1/2 oz. Johny Bootlegger Apple or any sour apple liqueur/schnapps
• 1/2 oz. Grand Marnier, Aperol or triple sec
• 1/2 oz. Midori (Melon Liquor)
• Sea salt or gold sugar crystals
• Lime wedge(s) for garnish
directions:
1. Pour all alcohol and lime juice into shaker with ice, shake
2. Wet rim of your glass of choice and dip edge into salt/sugar
3. Strain cocktail into glass and garnish difabiosevents.com
Maybe not as well-known as the cheesesteak, soft pretzel, or Tastykake, the Irish potato confection is a Philadelphia invention - believed to have originated sometime in the late 1900’s born out of the Irish immigrant cultural connection to potatoes. The little potato-looking candy was created as a way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a fun and delicious way. The Irish Potato (which actually has no potato) is made of cream cheese, sugar, and coconut formed into balls and rolled in cinnamon. By the early 1900s, Philadelphia was America’s candy capital. 200 - 300 candy manufacturers called the city home. Some of those candy companies are still in business today, including Asher’s, Whitman’s, Shane Candy Company, and Oh Ryan’s in Linwood. Some use shelf-stable buttercream instead of cream cheese, while others continue to use cream cheese.
• 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
• ¼ cup butter, softened
• 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 ½ cups flaked coconut
• 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1. Beat cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add confectioners’ sugar and vanilla; beat until smooth. Mix in flaked coconut.
2. Roll mixture into balls or potato shapes; roll balls in cinnamon. Place onto a cookie sheet and chill to set, at least 10 minutes. (Store refrigerated)
