Memories over things and giving back

The holidays are here and as the spirit of the season is among us, we often try to replicate what made the season feel so magical to us in our youth. The traditions we set for our own families often mirror some of what we experienced as a child whether it is the smells, the sounds, the lights, the holiday activities or a combination of it all that reflect that best.

Throughout the year, our family gives back by rais ing money through events as well as supporting our local schools. We encourage you to do the same even if it is just with your time. There are so many in need right here in Mount Juliet and we are thankful that we can make a difference.

This month, we wanted to highlight the magic of the season and what our city has to offer that helps spread holiday cheer. We wanted to give you an opportunity to discover some of the ways you can give back to those in need this year at the local level. Be sure to take the slow times of the season to make memories with loved ones. While this season can be beautiful for some, it can be painful and lonely for others, especially those who have recently lost a loved one.  In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of those in our community who need assistance or who are alone. My hope for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other, extending grace, empathy and love.

Happy Holidays!

KEEPING MOUNT JULIET Glowing

GLOW WILCO FOUNDERS ON THEIR JOURNEY, WINTER SKIN SECRETS, AND KEEPING MOUNT JULIET GLOWING

PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHELSEA SUMMAR PHOTOGRAPHY

For Shauna Bowers and Katie Jorge, co-owners of the thriving skincare haven Glow Wilco in Mount Juliet, glowing skin is more than a beauty trend—it’s a shared mission. These dynamic women have turned their passion for skincare into a vibrant business that radiates warmth and expertise.

The Glow Wilco story began on the tennis court, where Shauna and Katie first met. “We had a few mutual friends, but once our paths crossed, it didn’t take too long to realize we shared some mutual goals and could be a great team,” says Shauna. Soon, their friendship turned into a business collaboration as they both envisioned creating a space that would help people look and feel their best.

Since launching Glow Wilco, Shauna and Katie have thrived as a duo. “The best part is getting to create something great while maintaining balance,” they explain. “We lean on each other to share the load so we can be there for our business and our families.” They’ve fostered an environment that feels like a community, not just for themselves but also for their clients and staff, who are all part of what they affectionately call the “Glow House.” Located in a charming, spacious white house, Glow Wilco has become a local destination for both beauty and relaxation. “Our dream was to have a place we wanted to be, right here in Mount Juliet. The Glow House and our amazing team have exceeded all our expectations,” the ladies say proudly.

As the seasons change, Shauna and Katie are busy helping clients adapt their skincare routines to the colder weather. They say summer bodies are made in the winter, and the same goes for glowing skin. The dry air, chilly winds, and indoor heating that come with winter can lead to increased dryness, dullness,

“One of our favorite winter tips is to make hydration a priority. Switch to a gentle cleanser, add an antioxidant serum, and keep up with your gentle retinol routine.”

and sensitivity. “One of our favorite winter tips is to make hydration a priority. Switch to a gentle cleanser, add an antioxidant serum, and keep up with your gentle retinol routine,” add Shauna and Katie. Hydration is especially critical in the winter, as skin loses moisture quickly due to both cold outdoor air and warm indoor heating. One of Glow Wilco’s specialties during the colder months is laser treatments, a procedure that’s often easier to tolerate in winter when sun exposure is lower. “Laser season is the best part of winter by far!” the ladies add. “We see great results in the colder months, and it’s the perfect time to repair sun damage and build a strong foundation for glowing skin.” To keep lips protected, Shauna and Katie recommend an ultra-hydrating lip balm as part of any winter skincare regimen. “And don’t forget to drink plenty of water—hydration starts from within!”

Shauna and Katie take great pride in the sense of community they’ve built, not only among their team but with their clients as well. “We love having other strong providers to bounce ideas off of,” they share. “It really creates the best outcomes for our clients, and that’s what it’s all about.” Glow Wilco’s signature

- Shauna & Katie

“Glow Pads” are a beloved offering that clients rave about, but Shauna and Katie say it’s the sense of confidence and camaraderie they cultivate that truly makes their space unique. It’s a place where everyone feels welcomed and leaves feeling more confident.

As December approaches, Shauna and Katie are ready to bring some holiday cheer to the Glow House. “We love a party and any reason to throw one!” They make it a point to gather and celebrate with their team, and December is no exception. “We want everyone looking and feeling great for all their festivities, so we go all out,” the ladies add. From holiday skincare prep to festive gatherings, Glow Wilco brings the holiday spirit to both their clients and team. Looking forward, Shauna and Katie are excited about what the future holds. “We’re so happy to be here and grateful for the opportunity.” Glow Wilco’s success is a testament to the dedication and genuine care these women bring to their work. They’re not just in the business of skincare; they’re in the business of building confidence, creating community, and helping every person who walks through their doors feel like they’re part of the Glow Wilco family.

Charm to Nashville Bringing Christmas

JEN LILLEY ON FINDING HER PLACE IN HOLIDAY MOVIES AND BRINGING CHRISTMAS SPIRIT TO NASHVILLE

For Jen Lilley, the star of many holiday favorites on Hallmark and GAC Family, Christmas isn’t just a season—it’s a way of life. With her warm-hearted charm, Jen has enchanted viewers across the country, bringing both laughter and depth to the roles she plays. Here’s how she started her acting journey, what she loves most about the holiday season, and why Nashville feels like the perfect place for Christmas magic.

Jen didn’t exactly set out to become a holiday movie queen. In fact, she was on a very different path when her journey began. “During my second year of university, I spotted a poster for open-call auditions for an indie film called The Loss of Life,” Jen recalls with a smile. “I decided to go for it, and I ended up landing the female lead.” That role set her career in motion, and she quickly knew she wanted to pursue acting professionally. Jen took a no-nonsense approach to her dreams, doubling her academic course load so she could graduate early and setting up an eight-year plan to help her stay on track. “I realized that the difference between successful actors and those who give up often came down to resilience and understanding the business,” she explains. “I was determined to push through even when things got tough.”

Fast forward to today, and Jen has become a beloved face in holiday entertainment. Her roles have captured the hearts of viewers because she brings her own personality to every character. “I’m completely Christmas-obsessed,” she says. “Every year, I have a checklist of holiday traditions, from decorating cookies to gingerbread house building. I even have more than five Christmas trees because one just isn’t enough!” Her holiday spirit isn’t just for show, either; it’s something she’s passionate about sharing with others. Through her organization, Christmas is Not Cancelled, Jen and her fans have brought Christmas

joy to over 80,000 children in need. “I think people can feel how much Christmas means to me. I bring that excitement into my roles, and hopefully, it resonates.”

When asked if she has a favorite movie, Jen is quick to share a classic pick: “Home Alone! It’s such a timeless, funny movie.” And among her own films, one that stands out is A Paris Christmas Waltz, now streaming on Netflix. “It was such a special project,” she says.

Growing up, Christmas was a magical time in Jen’s family, filled with traditions that she’s now passing down to her own kids. “Every year, we go all out,” she laughs. “We have ugly sweater competitions, Christmas movie marathons with themed snacks, and decorate a whole gingerbread village!” The holidays in Jen’s home include charitable giving too—each of her kids fills a box for Operation Christmas Child, helping spread Christmas cheer to children around the world. “We even plan a Christmas edition of Minute to Win It with all kinds of ‘reindeer games.’ If it’s in a Christmas movie, chances are we’re doing it!”

Though Jen has filmed in beautiful locations around the world, including Romania and Vancouver, Nashville holds a special place in her heart. “The people here are so kind and warm; there’s this Southern charm that makes you feel right at home,” she says. “Nashville truly knows how to do Christmas. From the lights to the community spirit, it’s the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit.”

For Jen, the magic of holiday films lies in their ability to bring joy to others, and she says that her own character, Grace, in Operation Mistletoe might be the most similar to her real-life personality. “Grace is genuinely bubbly and enthusiastic about Christmas, just like me!” Jen admits. She sees a bit of herself in every character she plays, especially when it comes to sharing

holiday warmth. “I love bringing that sense of joy and cheerfulness to the screen—it’s a gift to be able to share that with viewers.”

Jen also has a favorite holiday indulgence: mashed potatoes. “They’re just so comforting, and since a lot of people associate them with the holidays too, I’m sticking with them!” she says, laughing.

With years of experience in the industry, Jen has learned some valuable lessons along the way. “I wish someone had told me early on that you are unique, and no one else can bring exactly what you do to each role or audition,” she shares. “When you don’t book a role, it’s not because you weren’t good enough—it’s just that it was meant for someone else. Embrace your uniqueness and celebrate others’ victories too.”

This year, Jen is thrilled to bring a new project to her fans with a modern twist on Little Women. “It’s truly a heartwarming story, and I’m so grateful to share it with everyone this holiday season,” she says, smiling.

For those dreaming of being in a Christmas movie with Jen, there’s good news! “You can now actually be in a Christmas movie with me, and even win a dream Christmas package,” she says. “Just head to MyChristmasMovieMoment.com—it’s such a fun opportunity!”

Jen Lilley’s heart for Christmas, her family traditions, and her passion for giving back make her the perfect ambassador for holiday cheer. Whether she’s lighting up the screen or spreading Christmas magic off-camera, Jen brings a little extra sparkle to the season.

CRAFTING CHEER:

DIY WINTER CRAFTS

ORNAMENT CLUSTERS

SUPPLIES

• 22 gauge wire

• Ornaments of at least 3 varying shades and sizes

• Wire snips

STEP 1

Cut desired length of wire for a cluster, about 24”

STEP 2

Add an ornament about 4” from one end of the wire and twist the wire around the top of the ornament to provide a base for your cluster. Twist about 5 times. You should still have about 4” of wire at the end; you will need it to tie onto your garland, tree, or wreath.

STEP 3

Continue adding ornaments to the wire, alternating sizes and colors until you have 4-6” of wire remaining.

STEP 4

Twist the remaining wire around the top of your final ornament 5 times to secure all of your ornaments in place. Making sure to leave at least 4” of wire in place at the end in order to tie onto garland, tree, or wreath.

STEP 5

Use the ends of the wire to attach to your holiday item of choice!!

Pro tip: Keep your clusters to the 24” length to keep from getting too heavy and/or having ornaments pop off. Ornaments will pop off at times, but they will still look gorgeous and you can always glue the ornament back onto to the top. Simple, gorgeous, and impactful!

Give the gift of memories

The Perfect getaway for the whole family

When it comes to reflecting on some of the pillars of childhood, our memories are truly the most valued possessions we will ever own. We cannot take the material things with us, but we can hold on and relive exciting memories with family and friends forever.

When considering gifts this year, remember that you can truly give the gift of a lifetime to your children by putting their memories first. Newman Dailey has become the hallmark of curated family memories through their unparalleled properties and their service. Making memories sometimes requires planning and Newman Dailey takes the guess work out of a truly fulfilling experience at the beach.

With their range of properties throughout 30A and surrounding

beaches, they have so many options to choose from. The Blue Blue Mountain Beach Inn, in particular carries spectacular views, refreshing amenities, and a short walk to the beach. Newman Dailey goes above and beyond to cater to your family and desired activites.

From Big Kahuna's Waterpark, Grayton Beach State Park, Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Western Lake, and making glass art at the Shard Shop in Grayton Beach, there are endless ways to make memories with your children while stepping back and enjoying the view.

It's easy to resort to the wish list full of material things, but as your shop this year, keep this in mind, "We all have our time machines. Some take us back; they’re called memories. Some take us forward; they’re called dreams.” - Jeremy Irons

Making Spirits

JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”

As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.

Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.

One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.

Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.

These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just

about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”

Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”

We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.

To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.

The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.org

Elevate your holiday hot chocolate with a charcuterie experience

As winter settles in and the air chills, there’s nothing more comforting than a steaming cup of hot chocolate. While a simple cup of hot cocoa can warm the soul, why not take it up a notch and indulge in a hot cocoa charcuterie board? Picture a delightful spread of various hot chocolate flavors, mix-ins, and toppings, inviting you to create a personalized, delicious mug of joy. Let’s explore the wonders of old-fashioned hot cocoa and all the accompaniments

you can use to create your very own hot cocoa charcuterie board.

THE DELIGHTS OF OLD-FASHIONED HOT COCOA

Old-fashioned hot cocoa transports us to simpler times and brings with it a sense of nostalgia. The slow, traditional process of making hot chocolate from scratch –with real chocolate, milk and a touch of sweetness – provides a distinctly memorable experience for the holidays.

OLD-FASHIONED HOT COCOA

Ingredients

• ¼ cup 60% cacao chocolate morsels

• ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa

• 1/3 cup white granulated sugar

• 2 cups milk

• 2 cups half and half

• 1 pinch salt

• ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

Heat all ingredients (except vanilla extract) in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat until almost boiling. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. CONTINUED >

CREATING THE PERFECT HOT COCOA CHARCUTERIE BOARD

Gone are the days of selecting only between marshmallows and whipped cream as toppings. With a hot cocoa charcuterie board, you can delve into a world of flavors, textures and spices that will make each sip an adventure, and serve as a sweet centerpiece to your holiday gatherings.

Begin by selecting a variety of flavors and mix-ins, such as mini marshmallows, salted caramels, white chocolate morsels and peppermints. Pair your hot cocoa with delectable treats like cookies, gum drops, crème-filled wafer rolls or chocolate-covered espresso beans. Consider adding biscotti, chocolate-dipped spoons or chocolate-coated pretzels as well as whipped toppings and an assortment of sprinkles.

VARIATIONS TO SAVOR

Indulge in some exciting recipes that are sure to elevate your hot chocolate into fun and festive beverages during the holidays and throughout the colder months.

MINTY FRESH WONDER

Embrace the festive season with a mint-infused hot cocoa. Fancify your beverage with a peppermint stick or make your

own crushed candy cane dust for a touch of holiday cheer. This minty delight is a crowd-pleaser and a perfect indulgence for cozy winter evenings.

SPICY AZTEC ELIXIR

Channel your inner adventurer with an Aztec-inspired hot cocoa. Infuse your drink with a touch of chili powder and a dash of cinnamon. Garnish with a cinnamon stick for a festive presentation. This fiery blend will ignite your senses and warm you from the inside out.

GROWN-UP GRASSHOPPER

Transform your drink into a rich adult-only grasshopper hot cocoa by adding 2 oz. of crème de menthe or a shot of peppermint schnapps. Adorn with a crushed candy cane rim for a playful offering.

DECADENT SALTED CARAMEL INDULGENCE

Elevate your hot cocoa experience with a drizzle of homemade salted caramel. The combination of slightly bitter cocoa and sweet, buttery caramel is a match made in heaven. Sprinkle an extra pinch of sea salt for that irresistible contrast.
