To All the Women in Our Lives EVERY YEAR WHEN MAY MAKES ITS WELCOMED RETURN TO OUR CALENDARS, WE CAN’T HELP BUT SING THE LINE FROM THE TEMPTATIONS’ “MY GIRL” THAT GOES, “WHEN IT’S COLD OUTSIDE, I’VE GOT THE MONTH OF MAY.” This month brings with it an abundance of joy—bright blue skies, a rainbow of flowers and, of course, the celebration of mothers on May 12. In this issue, we not only celebrate mothers but we also highlight all the wonderful women in our community— business owners, travel agents and presidents of community organizations, to name a few. The following pages are filled with stories to inspire us all to appreciate the women in our lives and to strengthen the connection we have with our mothers, sisters, friends and daughters. From a boutique startup and a travel agent's exciting new recommendation to a group of women selflessly making a difference in lives all over Naples, the Women’s issue serves to recognize the powerful role women have in our community and beyond. (And don’t worry, gentlemen; you’ll have your moment—stay tuned.)

BROOKE JENSEN’S FAVORITE THING ABOUT OWNING MAINSTREAM BOUTIQUE IS MEETING THE MOST AMAZING WOMEN IN THE NAPLES COMMUNITY. She values personal interactions with customers and loves hearing about their jobs, everyday lives, amazing families and events they are attending. “We are in the business of selling merchandise, but we want our customers to trust us, love us and want to be here with us," Brooke says. Opening Mainstream Boutique in April 2017 was not the beginning of her entrepreneurial spirit or her love of fashion; those things seemed ingrained in her from a very young age. She comes from a family of entrepreneurs, so being in business for herself seemed both natural and comfortable. While in college, she had her own eBay store where she would resell locally purchased items, and even though she really enjoyed it, she desired face-to-face, personal connections with buyers. Regarding fashion, styling friends and family and shopping to find the perfect outfits for them had always been a passion of Brooke’s. She had grown up watching her neighbor, Marie DeNicola, start Mainstream Boutique in her hometown of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and she got a front-row seat to the growing business as the original MB store was right across the street from her house. So, when the opportunity arose to partner with her mother, Cindy, in opening their own franchise, she took it. “I realized this could be a career that did not feel like work to me— just something that I loved to do and was already doing,” she says. Within seven months, their store found its home at 2355 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Suite 168 in Naples, underwent a remodel and opened its doors to the women of this community. Brooke and Cindy recently celebrated the store's two-year anniversary.

What are the first things customers will see or notice a s t h ey e n t e r yo u r s t o r e ? We hope that when customers enter the store, they will see a beautifully merchandised boutique full of items for women of all ages, along with a warm greeting from either one of the owners or a member of our team.
What clientele is MB designed to attract? All Mainstream Boutique locations are multigenerational, meaning that we strive to have something for women of all ages. One of the most exciting moments I have had was having three generations all shopping together and everyone leaving with items Brooke and her husband, Nick
they loved! We also strive to bring in the best quality items at a great price point and to carry items for women of all sizes. We carry some more expensive pieces, but we also have many adorable tops starting at $38 and jeans starting at $68. Most of our lines run small through large, but occasionally we bring in extra small and styles up to a 3XL, and currently, we have denim up to a size 24.
W h a t m a ke s yo u r boutique unique? Our moderate price point (especially for Naples) and our customer service. Our employees love their jobs and really strive to make you feel like the best version of yourself.
W h a t s ty l e o f c l o t h i n g c a n customers expect to find in yo u r s t o r e ? This is a tough question for me. I feel like we are a casual store, but our items are always changing since we usually only receive six pieces of any particular style. We offer many styles of dresses, tops and bottoms.
W h a t d e s i g n e r s d o yo u s t o c k ? Top vendors who we usually have in stock are Clara Sun Woo, Charlie B, Liverpool, Jag, Ariella, Mystree, Kut from the Cloth, and THML. We carry many other lines as well, including our own private label, Mac and Me, that is only found in Mainstream Boutique stores. CONTINUED >

What merchandise besides c l o t h i n g d o yo u o f f e r ? We offer shoes, jewelry, a few home goods pieces and several bags.
Can clients order online? Yes! We do not have a retail website, but customers can order from our Facebook and Instagram pages.
H o w d o yo u ke e p yo u r i n ve n t o r y f r e s h a n d u p t o d a t e ? We place many of our orders six months in advance, and we try to stagger those shipments throughout the season, but we are always placing immediate orders and re-orders to keep our store full. We try to limit the amount of times we re-order products so that we always have fresh inventory for our loyal customers. We can’t always guarantee to have particular items, but we always try our hardest to find an item a customer is looking for that we are out of. Shipments come to the store every day, so it’s always good to check weekly to see all the new items.
W h a t a r e yo u r c u r r e n t b e s t selling products and musth a ve s f o r t h i s u p c o m i n g s e a s o n ? Our best-selling products are light and flowy dresses, Clara Sun Woo liquid leather jackets, Clara Sun Woo palazzo pants, cotton or linen tops, fashion denim from Liverpool and any skorts we bring into the store always move quickly! For the upcoming summer season, we recommend a comfortable skort, a variety of cotton or linen tops, a lightweight sweater (for that A/C that is always on full blast!), a comfortable pair of shorts and many fun and colorful dresses. 22

W h a t d o yo u t h i n k yo u r customers should know about yo u r s t o r e t h a t t h ey m a y n o t be aware of ? We are a family store owned by a mother-daughter team. One of us is at the store almost daily to make sure the store looks amazing and that our items are ready for the sales floor. My husband, Nick, is also involved and helps out anywhere he can. It is amazing to build this business with my mom and to have my husband’s support. We have grown this business to the place where I can step away and focus on our family. This year has been the most exciting yet in our personal life, as we adopted our baby boy, Mason, at birth, in February. He is a dream baby and spends a lot of time at the store, and it’s amazing to have the flexibility to do that. An additional thing is that we strive to be involved in any community events we can. We offer in-store, afterhours fundraisers where 10 percent of sales are donated to charity, and we have been in multiple fashion show fundraisers and silent auctions.
And just for fun, what c e l e b r i ty w o u l d yo u l ove t o see walk through the doors so yo u c o u l d s ty l e ? Any celebrity would be so fun to style! We had celebrity stylist George Brescia visit the store last summer with Mainstream Boutique founder Maire and hope to do a celebrity styling event in the future.
Brooke says their greatest accomplishment has been seeing so many repeat customers and having customers, who are now friends, come into the store to spend time with them. “I want every customer to find something she will love and that boosts her self-esteem and makes her the most confident version of herself.”

“THE WORLD NEEDS STRONG WOMEN. Women who will lift and build others…women who live bravely…women of indomitable will.” –Amy Tenney Since 1932, Naples Woman’s Club has been incredibly instrumental in the development of this thriving city. This group of strong women has more than exemplified its motto “Living the Volunteer Spirit” from the very beginning. From starting the first library in Collier County, providing milk to undernourished school children, and beginning the visiting nurses program, to packing food for Meals of Hope, delivering diapers to new mothers, and helping non-native English speakers learn a new language, NWC has left its mark on the streets of Naples and is continuing to do what it can to serve its neighbors. The Flea Market each spring collects “one man’s trash” and turns it into “another man’s treasure” by recycling and selling unwanted furniture, clothing, electronics, housewares and other miscellaneous objects to those in need or by donating items to organizations like the Shelter for Abused Women and Children. With these women investing their hearts and hands into the community, their clubhouse could not be located in a more perfect place—nestled in the heart of town on Park Street. It’s half a block from the Fifth Avenue South District and one mile from Naples Pier. The clubhouse contains plenty of meeting space, a private banquet hall and the ever-coveted, convenient and secure parking. festivals and farmers markets. Currently, 300 women from ages 40 to 92 are part of this organization. While there may be a waiting list, “any adult woman who shares the vision of enhancing the lives of others through philanthropic activities and volunteer service” is more than welcome to seek membership. For women up to age 40, the Naples Junior Woman’s Club is an aligned sister organization, and the Juniorettes are a group of teen volunteers who are learning about serving their community. From high school students to working moms, retired grandmothers to busy doctors, there is a place for everyone to land with at least 15 committees to serve on that connect to a variety of passions: women’s healthcare, art, conservation and legislation, for starters. Becoming a part of this sisterhood in Naples is the perfect opportunity for women to build invaluable relationships and to help cultivate the type of community that cares for one another and acts on their desire to support, encourage and uplift those they encounter on a daily basis.
