Celebrate the New Year.
JANUARY 2016 editor

W
ith the New Year upon us, most of us turn our thoughts to resolutions and goals for the months ahead. A majority of these goals have to do with health and fitness. However, most of us struggle with the question “What does it actually mean to be healthy?” Each year it seems as if that question is becoming harder and harder to answer, with a seemingly endless array of new diets popping up—Paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free and juicing are a few that come to mind—making it difficult to decide what foods are actually good for you and what you should avoid eating. Not to mention, all the talk about how to exercise to lose weight as quickly as possible. All that information can be pretty confusing and overwhelming while trying to navigate your personal health. To begin, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines health as “the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit; especially freedom from physical disease or pain.” I really like this definition because it establishes the connection between body, mind and spirit, something that is oftentimes overlooked. For example, if you eat right (yes, it is okay to indulge sometimes) and workout you will have more focus and energy to do the things you love, which, in turn, will make you feel more satisfied and fulfilled as a person. To me, that is what health is. Of course not every one is the same. For some, eating three hearty meals a day and lightly working out for 30 minutes makes all the difference, while others prefer to eat six small meals a day and do a longer, more rigorous workout to feel their best. It all depends on what works best for you. I hope our “Health and Fitness” issue offers some guidance with articles on the natural healing power of Sedona, tips on living a healthy lifestyle from Sue Ciccolini, and Amy Van Dyken-Rouen’s tremendous story about overcoming fitness obstacles.

hen Phoenix native Mike Pendergraft began working as a valet at local Valley restaurants in high school, he never thought that four decades later he would still be in the business. However, after finding early success and eventually climbing into a management position, he had a hunch that this was an industry he could make an impact on for years to come. In 1980, with the Phoenix Country Club as his first client, Pendergraft did just that. Today, the same kid who once parked cars for some extra spending money as a teenager is now the President and CEO of the company he founded just years later, American Valet. “We offer our staff the opportunity to work with the public in an attempt to make 16

their day by offering a great experience from the time they enter their destination to the moment they leave it,” says Pendergraft. Having grown to more than 80 locations across both Arizona and New Mexico, American Valet has a team of over 600 that provides professional parking and transportation services for a diverse spectrum of business and private clients. Hospitality and events were a huge focus back in the 1980s when American Valet first hit the scene, but the industry has shifted dramatically over the last 20 years. As his company needed to adapt in an effort to survive, Pendergraft sought opportunities in healthcare, hotels and casinos, as well as shuttle and charter services. “As the hospitals got bigger, parking naturally became an issue and most of the
time people who need to go to the hospital are not necessarily in the frame of mind to be driving around looking for a parking space,” says Pendergraft. “The same thing with hotels—they realized they could have us run their valet, do it better because that is what we specialize in, and trust us due to our high level of service.” American Valet is able to maintain such a high level of client service and interaction because of the the culture that Pendergraft and his team have cultivated and maintained over the years. “We simply look for people with a passion to serve other people, because that really is all we do,” says Pendergraft, talking about what he feels makes an ideal candidate for his team.
“My dad always told me that you should always do what you like to do, and that is what we try to instill in our people—go out there and just enjoy doing what you do.”
In turn, he believes in making sure his executive team is keeping up its end of the bargain by maintaining a work environment that inspires people to consistently offer their best, including scheduling flexibility, opportunities for employees to bring their dogs to the office and bringing in a masseuse once a month for a complimentary massage. “My dad always told me that you should always do what you like to do, and that is what we try to instill in our people—go out there and just enjoy doing what you do.”

Girl Power
GIRLS RULE FOUNDATION TEACHES YOUNG WOMEN TO REACH FOR THE STARS ARTICLE MICHELLE GUERRERO | PHOTOGRAPHY OLIVIA WOMACK
A
13-year-old girl traded her dreams of being a doctor for motherhood. Everyone told her she couldn’t do both, and for a while she believed them. Two-years later, at 15, something clicked in her heart and mind when she attended the Girls Rule Foundation’s (GRF) Brilliant, Beautiful and Bold (BBB) event with her basketball team. “After the workshop she said, ‘I believed other people when they said that I couldn’t be a doctor and a mother, but I’m leaving this workshop committed to being a doctor. I’m not going to believe anyone else; I’m going to do it,’” says Dena Patton, co-founder and executive director of GRF. The purpose of GRF is to help girls dream big and build bright futures. The Foundation empowers them to lead healthy, successful lives, while encouraging higher education and leadership. It also helps girls find their voice and recognize their worth, accomplishing this through four different programs, most of which are offered at no cost. The BBB event is its signature program, and most popular. GRF lays out a pink carpet and puts up a photo booth so girls can snap photos 18

while holding a sign declaring ‘I AM Brilliant, Beautiful and Bold.’ It also offers a 60-minute inspirational workshop that empowers girls to recognize their brilliance and embrace their talents. Then GRF gifts them with a ‘wear and share bracelet’ to commemorate the event. BIG DREAMS
Girls Rule Foundation is a young program, founded in 2008. It has spent some of those years building a strong infrastructure, so it will be in the best position to fulfill its goals. While it has 100 volunteers, 15 strong women on the board of directors and two advisory boards (one of which is comprised of teens), there are only three women who conduct the programs. However, that’s about to change as GRF moves forward with its first leadership certification program. “Our goal for 2016 is to reach 12,668 girls. The biggest way we are going to accomplish this is through our new certification program. If we have 20 or 30 people get certified, we can do it,” says Patton.
This year GRF served nearly 1,200 girls, but could have served many more with the right leaders in place. Patton leads by example, with big dreams of her own, and is confident that GRF can reach its goal. Certified leaders will be able to conduct the signature BBB program locally or nationally. “This is a way that people can give back and get involved. A lot of people love our work and want to work with the girls, but unless they worked with one of our three facilitators we haven’t had a way to do that until now,” says Patton. The first training will be held on February 20, 2016. People can apply online for the free five-hour training. They’ll learn GRF’s four-point curriculum and how to conduct the BBB program. Certification requirements include booking a program within 30 days, committing to lead four workshops a year and attending either the GRF Summer Camp or Annual Mother Daughter Shine Brightly Summit in the fall. NO PERMISSION NEEDED
“No one gave me permission to change the world. In fact, I got the opposite. So many people need to stop thinking ‘who am I to make a difference.’ We all might have something that moves our heart, from animal abuse to domestic violence, mine is girls’ empowerment and leadership,” says Patton. While no one gave Patton permission to change the world, her personal journey as an award-winning entrepreneur, profession-
al speaker and business coach, as well as her years of training in self-development and leadership, set her up for the job. “The change I want to see in the world is leaders helping girls realize their dreams and how beautiful, brilliant and bold they are, so they become our next generation of strong leaders.” Learn more about the Girls Rule Foundation and the certification program at GirlsRuleFoundation.org.

or as long as she can remember, Sue Ciccolini has had a creative and entrepreneurial spirit. “I started out as a fashion designer in Los Angeles, and upon relocating to Scottsdale I worked in retail management before starting my family,” Ciccolini says. About 14 years ago, she began searching for a business that would allow her to work from home and keep her focus on her children. After hearing about Arbonne, a company founded by Norwegian bio-chemist Petter Morck almost four decades ago, Ciccolini knew she had found exactly what she was looking for. “When I discovered Arbonne I truly felt that it was the answer to my prayers,” Ciccolini says. “I was very excited because I knew I had found a

brilliant business model that would allow me the time with my kids and also the opportunity to grow my own business with no glass ceiling.” She also believes strongly in the founding principles of botanically-based pure and safe products. “I loved the idea that Arbonne would be doing all the research and development, manufacturing, stocking of products and delivering because it gave me time to share my passion for wellness, changing the lives of one family at a time.” Now with a global team for Arbonne, Ciccolini enjoys helping other people improve their health through the botanically-based products. But it wasn’t until a few years ago that she had a health-related epiphany of her own.
Three years ago, Ciccolini began offering a 30 Day Healthy Living Challenge, a program that focuses on five key areas of health: eating clean, increasing nutrient intake, eliminating allergens and addictive foods, balancing blood sugar and supporting elimination organs. “When I first embraced the 30 Day Healthy Living Challenge, I saw firsthand the impact that it had on my own health and the people I loved,” Ciccolini says. After being on the program, Ciccolini discovered that she has a sensitivity to both gluten and dairy products. “Several health issues that I attributed to normal aging were suddenly gone, and I got back my energy. Sometimes we don’t realize how much food is affecting us, but doing the Healthy Living Challenge showed me that I was sensitive to many foods. It truly transformed my thinking and my life.” Ciccolini’s son also gave the program a try. “My son learned that his ADD was actually significantly improved when he eliminated certain foods, and he was able to focus again,” she says, adding that a close friend was able to prevent a diabetes diagnosis by learning to control his blood sugar with food. “Children learn to make healthier choices and this can impact their health and development, their success at school and in sports, and their entire childhood experience. It excites me to help families learn healthy habits that can be passed on for generations, and that is what keeps me sharing this program,” she says. Another benefit of the 30 Day Healthy Living Challenge is that instead of merely telling people what to eat, it teaches them how to live a healthy lifestyle backed up with solid reasons. “A lot of people don’t feel empowered to make a change until they know why they are doing it. The Healthy Living Challenge changed my relationship with food because when I realized how it affected me, it empowered me to make better choices,” she says. Ciccolini knows that some people would like to eat better and improve their health but are concerned that it’s too expensive and time consuming. “I would recommend that they start with small changes, like lowering their sugar intake and eliminating artificial sweeteners, and eating their body weight in grams of clean protein each day, which will stabilize blood sugar and decrease appetite.” Adding fiber, reducing processed foods and supporting digestion with pre and probiotics are also easy ways to make a positive impact on health. “Take small steps. As you begin to feel better your relationship with food will change, so the bad choices that are not serving you will not be as inviting, and you begin to realize how much they are affecting you.”

SPIRIT OF SEDONA (CON TI N U ED)
Like a whisper in the wind, the spirit of Sedona calls to those listening carefully. Whether it be a time when they are most in need, feeling stuck or searching for a new way of thinking, each person who visits Sedona is drawn there for a reason. The land’s mystical vortexes have an undeniable hold over those seeking change, healing, transformation, release or clarity. It is a place where one can truly remember who they are. SEDONA CALLING
The Spirit of Sedona called to Iala Jaggs, retreat coordinator at Sedona Vortex Tours, back in the 1990s. “I was supposed to stay for four days and ended up staying for two months because things just kept happening to me. I was following signs and symbols and having experiences, so I finally moved here,” says Jaggs. When she was settled, Jaggs realized that an increasing number of people came to Sedona to experience the Vortexes without knowing what to do, where to go or how to feel their power. So she started Sedona Vortex Retreats—two to three-day spiritual journeys where guests go out onto the majestic red rocks and learn how to respect the sacred land and understand how to feel and access the vortexes’ energy, making for a truly transformative experience. “I understand that Sedona is a very powerful place of pilgrimage, and more and more people are coming here for that purpose—for healing, connecting more spiritually, grieving, releasing, breaking old patterns and setting new intenCONTINUED > tions,” says Jaggs. 24

SPIRIT OF SEDONA (CON TI N U ED)
SACRED LAND
For centuries, Sedona has been a place of refuge and spiritual growth. The natives who used to inhabit the land—Hopis, Navajo and Yavapi—recognized the deep and powerful energy of the vortexes and considered the land sacred, using it as a place of prayer. Today, many people come to Sedona without a firm grasp of what the vortexes are and how to fully embrace their spiritual healing power. “Wherever there are vortexes, and there are lots all over the planet, they are usually in a very beautiful place where nature conspires to attract you and work with you to connect you more with the earth and who you really are,” says Jaggs. It’s difficult not to experience some degree of Sedona’s profound healing power when standing in the midst of its awe-inspiring beauty. The towering troves of red rocks riddled with crystals, the deep hues of red, green and brown dotting the land and the vast blue skies all lend to an experience that takes people out of the mental and physical and into the spiritual. However, there is one very important thing to remember when seeking a transformational experience at the vortexes. According to Jaggs, we are all spiritual beings having a human experience, and the Spirit of Sedona works to amplify the energies already within us to create a deeply personal and transformational experience. Thus, the Spirit of Sedona acts as a guide, allowing us to rediscover energies and emotions that seem to have been lost in the worries and hurried pace of daily life. CONTINUED >

Amy Van Dyken-Rouen shows that with perseverance and heart anything is possible. ARTICLE DANIELLE ACCOVELLI | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
That question became reality for six-time Olympic gold medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen when she severed her spinal cord in an ATV accident, leaving her paralyzed. Since then, Van Dyken-Rouen has made amazing strides, both physically and personally, finding joy and purpose in things she would have never expected before. FOR THE LOVE OF SWIMMING
T
here are hardly words to describe the pure joy and sense of satisfaction one feels when they are doing something they truly love. We all thrive off of doing what makes us happiest, whether it be running outside, cooking an elaborate meal, traveling to foreign countries, or simply reading a good book. But what happens when it’s all taken away? 32
North Scottsdale Lifestyle | January 2016
It was swimming that brought Van Dyken-Rouen true happiness, and not because she had a natural gift or because her abilities made her a star. A severe asthmatic, Van Dyken-Rouen had a difficult time growing up with her condition until a doctor suggested she try swimming to help build her lung capacity. She joined her first swim team at the age of six. “The thing I love most about swimming is that I was not good at it right away,” says Van Dyken-Rouen. “It took me six years to finish one length of the pool, so I was awful, but I loved it so much that I kept going back to it.” Van Dyken-Rouen was never one to give up and always aimed for the stars. For years, she worked tirelessly to overcome her asthma and truly excel at the sport that had taught her about friendship, teamwork and her own capability to put mind over matter. THE ROAD TO THE OLYMPICS
Many swim practices later, Van Dyken-Rouen found herself on the road to the 1996 Olympics; a long and bumpy one due to her asthma. In order for her to be allowed to participate in the Olympics,
and remain healthy and on top of her game, she had to spend months experimenting with different asthma medications that were within the legal limits set forth by the Olympic Committee. “It’s funny, a lot of people ask me what’s the one thing that I would change about myself, and I never say my asthma. It’s one of those things where, yeah it absolutely stunk, but it made me who I am and it made me persevere,” says Van-Dyken Rouen. Her perseverance certainly paid off at the Olympics. She competed in five events, swimming a total of ten times over seven days, and took home an outstanding four gold medals. “When you get that medal around your neck and hear the national anthem being played for you and see all the cameras surrounding you, you know there are tons of people celebrating our country because of something you just did. And not only that, but accomplishing a lifelong goal; it is such a surreal feeling,” says Van Dyken-Rouen. The thrill of competing at her highest level and the pure euphoria and sense of accomplishment she felt knowing she had reached a dream was beyond comparison. It certainly seemed like the sky was the limit. A TRAUMATIC TURN
Things completely changed for Van Dyken-Rouen in June, 2014 when she was in a severe ATV accident that severed her spinal cord, leaving her paralyzed. Although her life would never be the
same, Van Dyken-Rouen never gave up on the fact that she would one day be able to walk again and a cure for spinal cord injuries would be found. So she gathered her strength and began a grueling physical therapy regimen to help her regain sensation and movement in her legs. “I want to break all the rules. I want to give people hope that if you continue to work great things can happen,” says Van-Dyken Rouen. With each day, it seems like she is getting one step closer to that goal, recently trading in the exoskeleton for a pair of braces that allow her to walk using her own power. “The first 50 steps I took, I cried so much, I was sweating so much and cussing at everyone, but I did it, and that was the biggest accomplishment, just taking those first steps.” EVERY NEW DAY
That was just the beginning. Van-Dyken Rouen started her own foundation, Amy’s Army, which raises funds to help people with various spinal cord injuries get the necessary medical equipment they either can’t afford or insurance doesn’t cover. She has recently taken on Arizona’s continuing drought and dropping water reservoir issues by storm too, speaking at news conferences to promote the use of rooftop solar power. Van-Dyken Rouen is also a tremendous motivational speaker, sharing her story of loss, struggle and hope with the entire nation. Her advice for anyone struggling to overcome an obstacle: “If you have a goal, make sure you continue working at it. There are going to be days where you will take ginormous steps forward and you’ll reach that goal, and that’s great, but there will also be days when you take steps backwards, and that’s when you learn the most about yourself.” That is the spirit of a true champion.

Sensational Smoothies WELLNESS HAS NEVER TASTED SO GOOD ARTICLE KATHLEEN BLAIR PHOTOGRAPHY SHAUNDRA BOONE
D
aniel Boone is a true entrepreneur. A native Arizonan, he started his career manufacturing artificial silk plants. After seven years, he switched gears and began importing pewter products from Mexico, a business he started out of his garage. Eventually, he and Dominique Neff-Boone grew the business, moved it into a larger space and created a successful pewter home furnishing establishment. Two years ago Boone switched gears again, finding a way to incorporate his passion for healthy living into a business. He closed the pewter store to devote his efforts into a wellness business. Having been juicing for 26 years, it was only natural for him to blend his passion into a career. Boone loved the idea of doing something he believed in while also helping others reach their fitness goals.
THE TURNING POINT
The seed for a wellness center was planted when Boone saw a photo of his friend, Vince Cline, on Facebook. 34
Not having seen Cline for a long time, Boone couldn’t believe his friend’s drastic transformation, shown in his before and after photos, which had occurred in just three months. Boone was so impressed that he contacted Cline to find out what he did to look so “buff.” That seed eventually bloomed into HB Wellness. The main focus of the wellness center is its high protein smoothies, which are not only delicious, but are low in fruit sugar, high in fiber and filled with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals—making them enjoyable as a beverage or a meal replacement. To kick start your metabolism, it’s best to have a green tea drink— available in peach, lemon, raspberry and passion fruit flavors. The tea is sweetened with mango aloe, a natural sweetener that starts a thermo genetic process which burns 100 calories. It also provides an energy boost, improves nutrient absorption and is filled with antioxidants. Next, choose your smoothie from 40 plus f lavors. These smoothies

have less than 250 calories, have 24 grams of protein and are f illed with 20 vitamins and minerals. Popular f lavors include White Chocolate Reese, Oatmeal Cookie, Coconut Macaroon, Orange Julius and Coffee Ice Cream. “We give people good nutrition and it triggers weight loss,” says Boone. “You can lose weight by just drinking these smoothies. Unlike other smoothies, they are not loaded with sugar; they are loaded with protein, vitamins and minerals.” For athletes, the post-workout smoothie contains 33 grams of protein, 3000 grams of L-glutamine for sore muscles and 4000 BCAA (amino acids) for recovery, which work in the body for 24 hours. If you have health concerns, smoothies can be made allergen free for those with dairy and gluten sensitivities.
WELCOMING AMBIANCE
HB Wellness has a very friendly, cheerful atmosphere with its large smoothie bar, small tables, lounge area with couch and love seat and outdoor seating. The staff also takes time to make you feel welcome and answer any questions. After having the mint chocolate smoothie, I was hooked. It was absolutely delicious, almost sinfully good, like a hot fudge sundae, but without the high sugar which would later make me feel guilty that I ate it. People who work in the area, athletes, trainers, moms and their children have all become regulars — parents comment it’s a great healthy snack for the kids. I highly recommend you try one and see for yourself. In fact, to start the New Year on a healthy note, Boone is offering one free smoothie and a wellness profile for first time customers during the month of January.

Cut spaghetti squash in two, at their equators. Scoop out seeds and place squash face down in a greased glass dish—use coconut oil or a drizzle of olive oil. Use a knife to make a couple of “breathe holes” in squash. Bake 30 to 40 minutes. While spaghetti squash is baking, dice onion and shred veggies. In a large skillet with sides or a 3-quart pot, brown meat. Add veggies and garlic. Cook until veggies start to soften. Add sauce, salt and pepper. Let sauce simmer on low for the flavors to blend. Remove squash from oven, turn over and allow to cool for a few minutes. Use fork to scrape out “noodles.” Spoon a serving of noodles on each plate, then top with sauce as desired. FOR ROASTED BROCCOLI:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Remove bulk of stems from head of broccoli. Toss broccoli florets with melted coconut oil or olive oil, sea salt and pepper. Place evenly on a cookie sheet with parchment paper or in a glass baking dish. Roast 10 minutes and serve. APPLE BERRY CRISP INGREDIENTS:

FUN & GAMES HOW PLAY AFFECTS YOUR CHILD'S HEALTH
A
s children head back to school after winter break, the time set aside for play seems to disappear. According to a survey conducted by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group’s Let’s Play Initiative, 56 percent of parents say busy schedules are a major barrier to play. Play is an important part of a child’s physical, emotional and social development. In fact, kids who play are found to be healthier, happier and better performers in school. As children’s schedules become packed with activities during the school year, it is important to make sure they are getting enough active playtime each day to help them grow into happy, healthy adults. Here are some reasons to keep kids active during the school year: PLAY PROMOTES SOCIAL SKILLS
According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, just more than a quarter of students surveyed participated in daily physical education classes. Kids have fewer opportunities to be active during the school day, so it is important to supplement their schedules with after-school activities or sports throughout the year. Team sports are a great opportunity for children to foster friendships and connect with kids from different backgrounds. Keeping your children active through sports gives them the opportunity to maintain a physically active lifestyle while also making new friends. PLAY HEIGHTENS INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT
Education in the classroom allows children to learn and grow; however, physical activity outside of the classroom is also important for a child’s development. Studies show that physical play has been linked to helping kids think creatively and create connections with others through the process of sharing, negotiating and resolving conflicts. Such skills are vital for a child to learn and can be easily taught through active play. PLAY ENHANCES MOTOR SKILLS
Playgrounds serve as a great space for kids to explore and have fun in a safe environment while challenging and refining their motor skills. Interacting with play equipment helps build motor skills and improves self-control and coordination. PLAY RELIEVES STRESS
As kids get older, schoolwork becomes increasingly difficult and stress levels about the workload begin to rise. In fact, 46 percent of parents polled in the Let’s Play survey said that a focus on academics was one of their kids’ biggest barriers to play. While academics should always be a priority, giving kids the opportunity and time to play can relieve the stress associated with school and allow them to simply have fun. Parting Thoughts
THE
POWER OF 30 MINUTES
WORDS MICHELLE GUERRERO
A
few months after I welcomed my third child into the world, I decided it was time to get back into shape. I had gained a whopping 40 pounds during my pregnancy, which seems to be the norm for my poor five-foot two-inch frame. I also worked full-time. Needless to say, by month seven or eight, the idea of taking a walk around the block after dinner was about as appealing as a root canal. Normally I’m active, but I’ve never been great at sticking to a workout routine. I had a long list of excuses I could share, but ultimately it boiled down to my top two. Number one was time. Carving time into my hectic schedule seemed impossible. The number two excuse had to do with expectations. Oftentimes, I would get frustrated because I couldn’t live up to my own expectations. Track record shows that if I couldn’t lose the weight quickly, my brain would decide the program must be faulty. Secondly, if I couldn’t complete the work out I expected to for the day, I would feel like it was pointless. After the birth of number three, I became a stay-at-home mom for the first time. I decided my top excuses were null and void with my new life and that I would begin anew. I’m a busy mom, but I decided no more excuses! I perused the web for a fun exercise program. I found the perfect one that involved dance, a coach with a fabulous accent, fun music and the promise of a terrific bootie. What more could a gal ask for? In addition to my new exercise program, I decided I would have a better attitude and reset my personal expectations. I used to find it discouraging when I needed to switch gears before I was ready, or stop something that I told myself I would complete. In order to avoid this personality quirk, I readjusted my expectations. I assured myself that I would be okay with 10 or 15 minutes of exercise, even if I planned for 30, because it was better than none at all. 42
North Scottsdale Lifestyle | January 2016
My plan was 30 minutes of exercise a day, four days a week. I could always add more days or time, but I would be satisfied with 30/4. A few months later, I was in better shape than I had been in years. I felt terrific and my Brazilian dance moves had improved tremendously! There were many days when my 30 minutes were cut short and weeks when I worked out less than planned. I was okay with that because I set realistic expectations and kept plugging along no matter what. My new plan worked! Then my wheels started turning. What else could I accomplish in 30 minutes a day? I never tried writing a novel. I thought that could be fun. Voilà! Three months later, I’m typing the final pages of my first novel, surprising myself with the accomplishment. What about learning Spanish? Voilà! Three months later, I speak perfect Spanish. Just teasing! My 30 minute breaks are limited these days and I’m now editing the novel I wrote, but I do spend some time on my Spanish almost daily and my language skills are improving. I challenge you to find 30 minutes in your day and make something wonderful happen in your life this New Year. Look your excuses in the eye and tell them to take a hike. Come up with a plan that works for you, set realistic expectations so you don’t get discouraged and keep plugging along slow and steady. You will get there if you persevere. No one can make your dream happen but you. “I am a great believer in Luck. The harder I work, the more of it I seem to have.” Coleman Cox.
