Living a PurposeDriven 2025

The start of a new year always feels like a blank slate—a chance to reset, refocus, and reimagine what lies ahead. It’s a time to reflect on the things that truly matter: our health, our relationships, and the moments that bring joy and meaning to our lives. For me, the new year is an invitation to slow down, take stock, and approach life with greater intention.

Our January issue celebrates these themes with a focus on health and wellness—not just in the physical sense, but in a way that touches every part of our lives. Wellness is about more than fitness; it’s about nurturing our mental health, finding balance, and building meaningful connections with those around us. It’s about living in alignment with what feels right for us as individuals and as a community.

This month, we are thrilled to feature Blair O’Neal on the cover. A pro golfer and blonde bombshell, Blair embodies grace, strength, and resilience. She balances a thriving career with the joys and challenges of motherhood, reminding us that true wellness is about harmony—not perfection.

Inside this issue, you’ll find even more stories to motivate and uplift you: government officials shaping change, professional athletes performing at the highest level, and esteemed business leaders redefining what success looks like. This month’s features reflect the many ways people in our community are embracing growth and wellness in their own lives. These stories remind us that wellness is a journey, not a destination.

As a mom of three, I often find myself marveling at how quickly time passes. One moment you’re cheering them on as toddlers, and the next, you’re watching them spread their wings and soar. This year, my personal goal is to be more present and savor these fleeting moments. I don’t believe in resolutions, but I do believe in setting intentions that align with what matters most.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to share that we have so much in store for Paradise Valley City Lifestyle this year. From exciting new announcements and hot cover stories to an expanded platform that will continue to celebrate the incredible people and stories in our community, the year ahead is full of possibilities. We are committed to growing alongside you and creating a space where inspiration, connection, and celebration thrive.

Thank you for being a part of our journey and for allowing us to be part of yours.

Happy 2025!

Rejuvenate

Skin and Revitalize Your Hair with Advanced Cosmetic Exosome Therapy

In Paradise Valley, where luxury meets innovation, we are proud to offer exosome therapy as a cutting-edge enhancement for both skin rejuvenation and hair appearance. Combining advancements in cosmetic science with time-tested aesthetic techniques, exosome therapy is redefining beauty and confidence.

Elevate Your Skincare Experience

Microneedling is a widely used cosmetic procedure designed to improve skin texture, tone, and overall radiance. By creating controlled microchannels in the skin, microneedling encourages the natural production of collagen and elastin. When combined with exosome therapy, this approach introduces an advanced cosmetic solution to enhance the appearance of your skin.

“Exosomes are small particles released by cells, including stem cells, that serve as messengers carrying key information between cells.” -Dr. Craft

In a cosmetic context, exosomes can be applied post-microneedling to complement the procedure.

“Exosomes are preferred in this cosmetic application because they do not involve whole cells, addressing concerns associated with stem cell-based treatments.”

By using exosomes, the skin’s appearance may be enhanced, resulting in a smoother, firmer, and more vibrant look with minimal downtime.

Enhance the Appearance of Hair

Concerns about hair thinning or loss can impact confidence. Exosome therapy offers a cosmetic approach to improve the appearance of the scalp and hair. When applied to the scalp, exosomes work as part of a cosmetic regimen to promote healthier-looking hair by complementing the scalp’s natural functions.

Explore the Possibilities

Exosome therapy represents the forefront of cosmetic advancements, combining modern innovation with timeless beauty aspirations. Whether you’re looking to enhance the appearance of your skin, improve the look of your hair, or both, our tailored cosmetic treatments are designed to help you achieve your aesthetic goals with elegance and precision.

Schedule your consultation today to explore how exosome therapy can elevate your confidence and beauty journey.

UNLOCKING THE BENEFITS OF CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR YOUR PET

Pets, like people, can experience joint discomfort, reduced mobility, or pain from everyday activities, injuries, or simply aging.

The spine plays a central role in a dog’s nervous system, controlling movement and communication between the brain and body. Misalignments, or “subluxations,” can lead to pain, stiffness, and even behavioral changes. Common signs your dog might benefit from chiropractic care include:

Limping or favoring one side

Difficulty climbing stairs or jumping

Decreased enthusiasm for play or exercise

Unexplained irritability or restlessness

Chiropractic adjustments for dogs are non-invasive, drug-free, and tailored to their unique anatomy. These holistic treatments can relieve pain from conditions like arthritis or hip dysplasia, improve flexibility and range of motion, boost athletic performance for active or working dogs, enhance recovery from injuries or surgeries, and support a calm and balanced demeanor.

BLAIR O’NEAL

Fairways, Fame, and Family: Birdies, Breaks, and Beautiful Memories

PHOTOGRAPHY BY JAMES PATRICK PHOTOGRAPHY

When we sat down to interview Blair O’Neal, she arrived with the confidence of someone who’s spent her life balancing high-stakes tournaments, glamorous photo shoots, and now the beautiful chaos of motherhood. As a former professional golfer, model, and esteemed Golf Channel host, Blair has navigated an extraordinary career path. In this exclusive interview, she shares her story with honesty, humor, and a sprinkle of her signature charm.

When it comes to Blair’s career-defining moment, she points to her win on Golf Channel’s Big Break Dominican Republic

“Winning that opened so many opportunities for me. I went back to playing professional golf with a platform and visibility I never imagined.”

But her love for golf started long before reality TV.

“I didn’t pick up a golf club until I was 11. My dad signed me up for a junior clinic, and I was hooked. I quit dance lessons that week and dove headfirst into golf.”

Even at that young age, Blair’s determination was clear.

“I had dreams of becoming a LPGA player when I grew up. I was so focused, and it was all I cared about.”

FROM ASU TO PRO GOLF

Blair’s dream of playing for Arizona State University was unwavering.

“I grew up watching the ASU women’s golf team on TV. They were winning national championships, and I told my dad it was where I wanted to go. When the ASU letter finally arrived, I was ecstatic.”

Playing for ASU was both a challenge and stepping-stone.

“While I was there, we went through three different coaches, which was tough but also taught me a lot. After college, I turned pro immediately and started playing in Asia. But at the same time, I began modeling.”

Blair recalls how those dual careers shaped her path.

“Back then, NCAA rules didn’t allow student-athletes to have other jobs, so I missed out on some opportunities, like a Golf Digest

shoot in Hawaii. After graduating, I finally got to do that awesome calendar shoot in Hawaii, and that’s how my modeling career took off. In fact, modeling helped fund my pro golf career because I didn’t come from a wealthy family. I had to figure it out myself.”

BALANCING GOLF AND GLAMOUR

Balancing two careers wasn’t easy. “I’d play a tournament, then fly out for a photo shoot. It was a constant juggling act. But looking back, it taught me how to manage multiple things at once, which has been invaluable as a mom.”

Her modeling highlights include features in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and Maxim.

“I’ve never posted anything I’m not proud of. My brand is my business, and I’ve always considered how my decisions will affect me. Being a mom comes first, but I want my kids to see that ambition and hard work can lead to amazing things.”

“Sports Illustrated was a dream. One of the shoots was with Cobra Golf, and I was holding their driver in the photos. Those moments are so special to me, and I love that I’ll be able to show my kids one day, like, ‘Look at what Mom did!’”

SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE EVOLUTION OF A BRAND

Blair was an early adopter of social media.

“It started with MySpace,” she says, laughing. “Back then, only models were on there, so I thought, ‘Why not start a golf page?’ Then I moved to Facebook, and later Instagram when Cobra and Puma Golf encouraged me. They told me, ‘You’ve got to get on there,’ so I did. It was one of the best things for my career.”

Her Instagram feed became a blend of golf, travel, and modeling.

“I’ve always approached my brand thoughtfully. You’ll see bikini photos from a Sports Illustrated shoot or me on the golf course in traditional golf attire. I’ve always believed there’s a time and place for everything.”

On staying authentic, Blair says, “I’m just being me. I’ve never posted anything I’m not proud of. My brand is my business, and I’ve always thought long-term about how my decisions will affect me down the road.”

MOTHERHOOD: A NEW CHAPTER

Motherhood has added a new layer to Blair’s life.

“My first son was born in April 2020, right when COVID hit. COVID was actually a blessing in disguise because I didn’t have to miss anything with my baby—I got to be home with him while the world slowed down.”

Her second son brought new challenges.

“When Canon was born, I was back to work at five weeks post-partum. I even played tournaments while pumping on the golf course! I had portable pumps and ice packs in my golf bag. It was wild.”

When asked how she juggles it all, Blair comments, “It’s about prioritizing. I’ve learned to say no to things that don’t align with my family or career goals. Some days are easier than others, but I just take it day by day.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BLAIR?

Blair is looking forward to 2025 with excitement.

“I’ve got fresh big projects in the works,” she says, keeping the details under wraps. “I never stopped working after having kids, but now that they’re getting older, I can focus more on new opportunities. Stay tuned on Instagram for announcements!”

Blair O’Neal is a testament to what’s possible with hard work, determination, and a little creativity. Whether she’s conquering the golf course, gracing magazine covers, or navigating mom-life, Blair continues to inspire.

“Being a mom comes first, but I want my kids to see that ambition and hard work can lead to amazing things.”

QUICK HITS WITH BLAIR

Cheat Meal? “Mexican food. All of it.” Favorite Golf Course? “Pebble Beach. It’s magical.”

Workout Routine? “Pilates!”

TEE TIME WITH JESSE MUELLER

REFLECTING ON HIS JOURNEY, ARIZONA GOLF LEGACY, AND A HISTORIC PHOENIX OPEN RETURN

PHOTOGRAPHY BY MIKE SCHOAF/SOUTHWEST PGA

The PGA Tour has introduced a significant shift in the landscape of professional golf, announcing a reduction in field size for the WM Phoenix Open. Beginning in 2026, only the top 120 PGA Tour players will be eligible to compete, bringing an end to the tradition of open qualifying—previously the largest in the nation—and eliminating the Southwest PGA exemption. This change, approved during the PGA Tour’s November 18th board meeting based on a recommendation from the Player Advisory Council, marks the end of an era for the tournament.

For over 50 years, the Southwest PGA has proudly celebrated local talent by featuring a Southwest Section PGA professional in the tournament—a hallmark of community pride and inclusivity. Jesse Mueller, a decorated golfer and General Manager at the GCU Golf Course, will be the final PGA Professional from the Southwest Section to compete under this exemption, securing his spot by winning the Southwest PGA Championship in August 2024.

“We are obviously disappointed in the recent PGA Tour decision to eliminate open qualifying and our exemption for the WM Phoenix Open starting in 2026,” says Bill Ibrahim, Sr. Director of Operations and Public Relations for the Southwest PGA. “Golf has always been unique amongst professional sports in terms of providing opportunities for golfers nationwide to qualify for PGA Tour events. The open qualifying component has been one of the best things about golf because it’s so difficult to make these tours, and if you have the talent, you have the potential to change your life. For over five decades, we have had a Southwest PGA Professional competing in the WM Phoenix Open through our exemption. Losing that exemption, and having a local PGA Professional in the field, is saddening.”

This historic change underscores the evolution of the PGA Tour while casting a spotlight on Jesse Mueller’s upcoming appearance in the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, which will carry the weight of tradition and legacy.

We scored an exclusive interview with Jesse as he embarks on his fourth Phoenix Open appearance. Through our candid conversation, Jesse reflects on his journey, the changes ahead, and what it means to be part of Arizona golf history.

“GOLF RUNS DEEP IN MY FAMILY”

Born and raised in the Valley, Jesse Mueller was introduced to golf at an early age.

“I started playing when I was about three or four,” he recalls. “My dad got me and my three younger brothers into it. It was just something we did as a family. My parents would drop me off at the course after school, and I’d spend hours practicing. I loved every second of it.”

His first taste of competition came at the age of nine.

“I remember my first tournament like it was yesterday,” Jesse says. “It was in Phoenix, and I just fell in love with the competitive side of the game. Even back then, I knew golf was something special.”

The first course he ever played? Shalimar Golf Course in Tempe.

“It’s a small nine-hole course, but it’s where it all began,” he says with a smile. “I have so many great memories from those early days.”

A DREAM TAKES SHAPE

By the time Jesse reached his teen years, it was clear that golf was more than just a hobby.

“I always loved the game, but it wasn’t until my early teens that I thought, ‘This is what I want to do with my life.’ I had some early success in tournaments, and that gave me the confidence to really go for it.”

In high school, Jesse played for Red Mountain and continued to hone his skills.

“I practiced a lot—four hours a day sometimes. I just loved being at the course, working on my game.”

His passion for the sport carried him to Arizona State University, where he played collegiate golf from 2001 to 2005.

“Playing for ASU was an incredible experience. We competed against some of the best players in the country—guys like Ryan Moore and Anthony Kim. Those years really shaped me as a golfer.”

PROFESSIONAL PURSUITS

After college, Jesse took the leap into professional golf.

“Turning pro was always the goal,” he says. “I played on tours all over the world— the Korn Ferry Tour, the South American Tour, and even a few PGA Tour events. Golf took me to some amazing places.”

One of his most memorable achievements came in 2022 when he won the PGA Professional National Championship.

“There were 350 players in the field, and my wife was my caddie which made it so special. I even had a big enough lead on the back nine to really enjoy the moment, which never happens in golf.”

CONTINUED >

After nearly a decade of playing professionally, Jesse transitioned into a new role as General Manager of GCU Golf Course.

“I’ve been at GCU for about seven years now. My dad serves as president and my brother is the men’s team golf coach. It’s been a great way to stay connected to the game while also giving back to the community.”

THE PHOENIX OPEN: A CHILDHOOD DREAM REALIZED

For Jesse, the WM Phoenix Open has always been more than just a tournament.

“I grew up going to the Phoenix Open. I remember standing on the range as a kid, collecting autographs from players like Tiger Woods and Tom Lehman. I still have one of those signed brochures.”

This year will mark Jesse’s fourth appearance in the event.

“The atmosphere at the Phoenix Open is like nothing else in golf. It’s loud, it’s rowdy, and it’s so much fun. The Thunderbirds have done an incredible job creating an experience that’s both exciting and unique.”

His best finish came in 2023 when he made the cut and placed in the 60s.

“In 2023, I was in 30th place during round three before dropping back,” he shares. “This year, my goal is to crack the top 10. I know I have it in me.”

MAKING HISTORY

As the final local pro to compete in the Phoenix Open under the Southwest PGA exemption, Jesse feels a deep sense of pride.

“It’s bittersweet,” he admits. “I’m honored to represent Arizona one last time, but it’s tough knowing this opportunity won’t be there for future pros. The Phoenix Open has always been about community, and I hope that spirit continues even as things change.”

Reflecting on his journey, Jesse says, “I’ve come full circle—from being that little kid watching the Open to now playing in it and making history. It’s surreal.”

LIFE BEYOND GOLF

Off the course, Jesse is a devoted family man.

“My son is 11, and my daughter is six. We play golf together every week—it’s a great way to bond. My wife even caddied for me when I won the National Championship. Golf really is a family affair for us.”

He’s also a music lover.

“I’m a huge Blink-182 fan. If I could pick one band to play at the Bird’s Nest, it would be them. My son loves them too, so it would be a full-circle moment.”

LOOKING AHEAD

With the 2025 Phoenix Open just around the corner, Jesse is focused on making the most of this historic opportunity.

“My goal is to soak it all in and represent Arizona the best I can. I’ve had some amazing moments at this tournament, and I’m excited to create a few more. Thank you to The Thunderbirds and the PGA Tour for the spot they have provided us for so many years. It has been the highlight of many of our playing careers.”

As the era of local pros at the Phoenix Open ends, Jesse Mueller stands as a proud representative of Arizona golf. His journey—from Shalimar to the Phoenix Open— is a testament to passion, perseverance, and the enduring spirit of the game.

BALANCING LIFE AS AN ATTORNEY: MY JOURNEY AND PASSIONS

Being an attorney is often a delicate balancing act between the demands of work and maintaining a fulfilling personal life. For me, staying active is a huge part of that equation. I’m a big fitness buff, and I absolutely love Orange Theory. I think everyone should carve out time in their day to exercise—it’s not just about physical health but mental clarity too. Lately, I’ve also taken up mixology! In fact, I’ve even won a few local cocktail recipe contests.

LIVING BY A PHILOSOPHY

At Palestini Law, my motto is, “Just Because You Did It Doesn’t Mean You’re Guilty.” It always gets a laugh, but it’s rooted in truth. Life is full of actions and consequences, but not all consequences need to be negative. Knowing how to navigate tricky situations is an essential skill—or at the very least, having someone experienced to guide you through it is key. That’s where I come in as a defense attorney: helping my clients turn potential pitfalls into manageable outcomes.

PROVIDING A PERSONAL TOUCH

One of the unique aspects of my practice is that it’s just me. When you call Palestini Law, you’re not going through a receptionist, a paralegal, or a marketing team—it’s me answering the phone every time. While running a solo firm comes with challenges, it also allows me to offer something rare: 24/7 access to my clients. I can’t count the number of times I’ve met clients for release in the middle of the night or dropped everything to ensure their needs are met. When you work with me, you’re not just hiring an attorney—you’re gaining someone who’s truly committed to seeing your case through to the very end.

WHY I CHOSE CRIMINAL DEFENSE

Being an attorney is about more than winning cases—it’s about understanding people, navigating complexities, and making a difference. That’s what keeps me inspired every day."

I’ve always been drawn to the concept of justice, but what really motivated me to pursue criminal defense is understanding that justice isn’t always black and white. It’s easy to think of right and wrong as opposites, but the reality is often more nuanced. As a defense attorney, I get to bring a third dimension to what might seem like a twodimensional issue. I love the challenge of examining a case from all angles to get my clients the outcomes they deserve. (602) 663-7592 •

VALLEY SU NS RISEUP

Basketball history shines bright in Arizona with the Valley Suns, the Phoenix Suns’ G League affiliate—making their debut as the first G League team to call the Valley home. Previously, the Suns’ affiliate played in Prescott Valley before relocating to Detroit. Now, with games at ASU’s Mullett Arena, the Valley Suns usher in a new era of basketball excellence and community connection.

The G League, the NBA’s official minor league, is more than just a developmental program—it’s a stepping stone for players, coaches, and staff aiming for the big leagues.

The Valley Suns seamlessly align with the Phoenix Suns’ core values: playing fast, together, and unselfishly. This integration extends to player movement, with the Valley Suns serving as a proving ground for talent. Players like Jalen Bridges, TyTy Washington Jr., and Collin Gillespie signed to two-way contracts, splitting their time between the Valley Suns and the Phoenix Suns. Since its 2017 introduction, the two-way contract allows NBA teams to sign up to three players who spend most of the season in the G League while playing up to 50 games with their NBA team.

new G League team and a one-on-one with a rising star

It’s a crucial tool for fostering young talent and ensuring readiness for the NBA stage. Valuing community, accessibility and a family-friendly atmosphere, Valley Suns tickets start at $15 with autograph opportunities at home games. And surely, no team is complete without a mascot, and the Valley Suns’ Ray is here to stay. Born from the Sun itself, Ray embodies the Valley Suns’ vibrant energy. With BFFs like Scorch (Phoenix Mercury) and The Gorilla (Phoenix Suns), Ray is a symbol of the team’s connection to the Suns family. Ray even dished some deets to us here at Paradise Valley City Lifestyle, sharing the following:

Favorite Song: “Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield

Favorite TV Show: Everybody Loves Raymond Earth Landing: October 28, 2024

While it’s tough to beat our interview with Ray, we also scored an exclusive oneon-one with Phoenix Suns forward Jalen Bridges who just so happens to also play in the G League. Here’s what the up-and-coming Suns star is saying about life in AZ.

HOW DOES IT FEEL JOINING THE G LEAGUE TEAM IN ITS FIRST SEASON?

It’s awesome. I have a chance to be part of history and look forward to taking on the rest of the season full steam ahead.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE STEPPING ONTO THE COURT AS A PHOENIX SUN FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Amazing. It’s the first step of a very long journey, God-willing. Just being out there with the guys was surreal.

DID YOU ALWAYS HAVE BIG DREAMS OF PLAYING BASKETBALL?

Even as a kid growing up in West Virginia, I’ve always wanted to play for the NBA. It probably wasn’t realistic until I was 15 or 16 years old and started getting Division I offers. That’s when it hit me that I could do something with this.

There’s not many people that come from where I come from that make it to this level. That constant self-belief, putting your head down and grinding… you’d be surprised where you look up and find yourself.

WORD ON THE STREET IS KEVIN DURANT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLAYER... WHAT’S IT LIKE SHARING THE COURT WITH HIM?

It’s crazy… totally full circle. Just getting to see him up close, how he works, how he approaches the game and learning by observation is really special.

WHAT HAS THE TRANSITION BEEN LIKE FROM COLLEGE TO PRO?

It’s been interesting. Guys are definitely stronger. The speed of the game is way faster and the ball doesn’t stick compared to college. It’s been a little adjustment, but I’ve been able to get my feet under me.

YOU’RE ALREADY BUZZING ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS BEING A FAVORED VALLEY SUN... WHAT’S THAT LIKE?

It’s awesome. The Valley fans bring the energy and I’m excited for the rest of the season.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNGER PLAYERS TRYING TO MAKE IT BIG?

Control what you can. What you put in determines what you get out. Believe in yourself.

WHAT ARE YOU LOVING ABOUT LIVING IN ARIZONA?

Getting here in the middle of the summer at 115 degrees was a little rough, but fast forward to now... what more could you want? It’s perfect.

MOST MEMORABLE BASKETBALL MOMENT...

We had the backyard brawl my redshirt sophomore year; West Virginia versus Pitt. I opened the second half with a poster dunk. That was probably one of the most memorable moments of my career.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR LONG-TERM GOALS IN BASKETBALL, AND HOW DOES THE G LEAGUE FIT INTO THAT VISION?

I want to stay around and make an impact on winning as long as I can. I feel like the G League will help me get reps and accustomed to the NBA style.

IF YOU COULD PLAY ONE-ON-ONE WITH ANYONE, WHO WOULD IT BE?

Michael Jordan. He’s one of the best to ever do it and I want to see where I stack up. I don’t know how that would go, though.

HOBBIES OUTSIDE BASKETBALL?

I like playing video games, especially Call of Duty. I like to fish, hang out with my fiancé, my dog and my two cats, and watch TV.

SPEAKING OF YOUR FIANCÉ, WE HEARD YOU MET YOUR SOON-TO-BE WIFE ON THE COURT...

Yes, she was a walk-on on the women’s team at West Virginia. That was the first time we crossed paths. I didn’t think anything would ever come from it. One athlete dating a normal person, especially during the season, is hectic enough; two athletes just wouldn’t work. Lucky for me, she left the team. Fast forward two months, I was at dinner after one of my games with my family and when we were going to our seats, she was already sitting at a table and mumbled under her breath, “Who’s that? He’s kind of cute.” My mom kind of threw me a lob and was like, “he’s single, too.” Ever since, it’s been going strong and we both love living in Arizona.

PRE-GAME RITUALS?

Gotta have a nap.

The 2025 Mental Performance Playbook

How mindset mastery is the secret weapon for business success in 2025

As the new year inspires resolutions, one often-overlooked key to success is mental performance.

At the 2024 Trainual Playbook, Daymond John and Candy Valentino shared insights on scaling operations and boosting team performance. Hosted by Chris and Jonathan Ronzio, founders of Trainual, the event brought together business leaders to discuss growth, efficiency, and system-building strategies. At the event, they announced Trainual is now the official onboarding partner of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury.

Here’s what these powerhouse entrepreneurs shared about how mental discipline, resilience, and intentional routines fuel their success.

DAYMOND JOHN ON MINDSET, ADVERSITY, AND WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Daymond John’s journey from a basement startup to global success with FUBU and Shark Tank is nothing short of remarkable. He highlighted the pivotal role of mindset in achieving success, saying, “Mindset is everything—it’s just as crucial in failure as it is in success.”

Reflecting on his early career, he admitted, “I never looked at the performance of my body and mind as part of the process because the information wasn’t widely available. It was later on in my career that I understood the value of it both mentally and physically.”

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Daymond emphasized that overcoming adversity begins with clarity of purpose.

“Mental toughness starts with knowing why you’re doing it and what the outcome will be,” he said. “Understand your purpose, evaluate what you’re willing to sacrifice, and stay alert to both the process and the results.”

As such, navigating the balance between personal and professional life requires the same strategic thinking Daymond applies to business.

“I reassess and take inventory to see how it’s working for me,” he explained. “I look at when I’m overextended and think through what’s the plan to reduce this stress? There’s a lot on that personal profit and loss statement.”

The “personal profit and loss statement” shifts work-life integration from a balancing act to a series of intentional choices. Here are 3 key takeaways from our conversation:

Daymond John

1. Take Regular Inventory: Periodically evaluate your commitments and assess whether they align with your long-term goals and well-being.

2. Reduce Stress by Prioritizing: Identify areas of your life where you’re overextended and create a plan to scale back or delegate.

3. Focus on Purpose: Keep your “why” at the forefront of your decisions, ensuring that your energy is directed toward meaningful outcomes.

CANDY VALENTINO ON DELEGATION AND THE ART OF EXECUTION

For Candy Valentino, entrepreneurial success is rooted in decisive action. With over 20 years of experience, she has founded and sold multiple companies, specializing in real estate, marketing, and wealth-building strategies.

“Most people think it’s a personality type or an educational pedigree—but it’s neither. It’s the ability to execute with speed, adapt and change, and deliver,” she shared.

In her latest book, The 9% Edge, she offers practical insights for entrepreneurs, drawing a powerful parallel between professional sports and business success.

“The most fascinating similarity is that the head coach doesn’t jump in and try to run a route,” she said. “So often, the founder tries to juggle 17 things, but they need to find out what they’re good at.”

This emphasis on self-awareness and strategic delegation challenges  entrepreneurs to rethink their approach.

“A good entrepreneur will build a great business, but a great entrepreneur builds a great team that’s going to grow a great business.” As such, founders need to step back, evaluate their strengths, and trust their team to handle the rest.

For Candy, delegation is a strategic tool for scaling and impact. Her philosophy: success isn’t about doing everything, but doing the right things exceptionally well. Build the right team, and they’ll execute while you focus on winning. Here are 3 actionable strategies to implement:

Daymond John
Candy Valentino

1. Audit Your Workload: List everything you do in a week and identify tasks that don’t require your unique skill set.

2. Prioritize Your Strengths: Focus on areas where you provide the most value, whether it’s strategy, innovation, or leadership.

3. Empower Your Team: Delegate the rest to capable team members or trusted partners to free yourself for high-impact decisions.

3 WAYS TO BUILD YOUR 2025 MENTAL PLAYBOOK

Time-Block & Prioritize

Schedule specific time blocks for both personal and work activities. Use tools like Google Calendar to visualize your day. Apply the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize tasks, tackling urgent and important ones first. Set boundaries by turning off notifications and communicating availability to avoid distractions. At the start of each week, review your calendar and adjust as needed based on shifting priorities.

Candy Valentino

Theme Your Workdays

Assigning a theme to each day, like “Marketing Monday,” streamlines focus and reduces mental fatigue by batching similar tasks. Time-blocking adds structure and boosts productivity. Chris Ronzio echoes this approach by reserving Mondays and Thursdays for internal meetings, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays for external ones. This intentional routine demonstrates the power of consistency in maintaining focus.

Embrace Growth Through MicroFailures & Unlearning

Commit to practicing a specific skill daily, even for just 10 minutes, and reflect on each attempt. Track your progress in a “failure log” to pinpoint lessons learned. Challenge limiting beliefs, like “I need to be busy to be productive,” by confronting them weekly through activities that push you out of your comfort zone. End each week with a journaling session for reflection.

LUXURY THAT LASTS

Dr. Cie Allman-Scott

PV’S MEDIA PSYCHOLOGIST: BRIDGING HOLLYWOOD

GLAMOUR, WELLNESS, AND UNIVERSAL WISDOM

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Dr. Cie Allman-Scott is a woman whose career is as diverse as it is inspiring. Over the past three decades, she has worn countless hats: model, actress, TV host, executive producer, psychologist, best-selling author, and wellness advocate. Dubbed a “media psychologist,” Dr. Cie has used her unique blend of entertainment and expertise to inspire audiences, interview Hollywood’s elite, and introduce innovative health practices to the mainstream.

“When I was young, I’d watch The Bob Newhart Show and think, ‘I want to be a psychologist and a TV star,’” says the Paradise Valley resident. “Decades later, I’ve managed to combine those two passions in a way I never could have imagined.”

From working with Hollywood royalty to building a global wellness brand, Dr. Cie’s journey is a testament to the power of reinvention. After earning her undergraduate degree at Roosevelt University in Chicago, her early success as a model opened many doors—but it didn’t take long for her to recognize the industry’s limits, inspiring her to chart a new path.

“As I progressed into my 20s, I was considered ‘too old’ in the modeling world. That’s when I knew I had to pivot,” she says.

Cie moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting, landing roles on shows like Baywatch and General Hospital . She even appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction as Harvey Keitel’s date.

“Most of my scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, but it was such a surreal experience.”

Despite her success, Dr. Cie felt unfulfilled. “Acting didn’t feel authentic to me. I wasn’t telling my own story—I was just playing someone else’s. That realization pushed me to start creating something that truly reflected who I was.”

Dr. Cie transitioned from acting to writing commercials and infomercials, which eventually led her back in front of the camera.

“One day, the production company I was working for told me, ‘You should be hosting,’ and that’s how Infinite Power Workout was born.”

Her nationally syndicated morning show combined fitness and celebrity interviews.

“It wasn’t just about working out; it was about total wellness—mind, body, and spirit. We had everyone

on the show, from Oscar winners like Laura Dern and Martin Landau to Jack LaLanne. One thing I’ve learned is that not everyone can both act and speak from the heart. When they can do both, it’s magic.”

One of her most memorable interviews was with Kato Kaelin, who joined her for a treadmill-based workout. “We set up a circuit in the gym, and he joked on every piece of equipment,” she recalls.

Even as her media career took off interviewing thousands of celebrities, Dr. Cie remained deeply connected to her roots in psychology. Now, the esteemed doc has a select clientele of celebs that benefit from her cutting-edge anti-aging protocols.

“I’ve always been fascinated by what makes people tick,” she says. “But instead of one-on-one therapy, I realized I could broadcast messages of transformation to millions.”

Dr. Cie coined the term “media psychologist” to describe her unique niche. She has since added an education and expertise in metaphysics and quantum physics.

“It’s about blending psychology, spirituality, and media to share universal truths,” she explains. “A universal truth is something that resonates across all walks of life. If it’s true for me, it can be true for you, too—it might just look different in your life. Attain all you desire by choosing well and directing your life to succeed at every goal.”

Her innovative approach has earned her two Emmy nominations, eight Telly Awards, and a reputation as a trailblazer in her field.

“For me, it’s not about the accolades,” she says. “It’s about impact. I want to help people unlock their potential.”

Dr. Cie’s books are an extension of her mission to inspire and educate. Her bestseller, Decide Your Future: Write, Direct, and Star in Your Life, offers readers a practical guide to taking control of their destiny.

“Life isn’t a dress rehearsal,” she says. “You have to stop waiting and start creating the life you want.”

The book outlines seven steps to guarantee forward movement in the intended direction. These steps aren’t just about making better choices; they’re about feeling more connected to your intuition, improving your communication, and finding clarity in what truly matters.

“One of my favorite quotes is from Benjamin Franklin: ‘Genius is the ability to hold a vision steady until it

“Benjamin Franklin said, ‘Genius is holding a vision steady until it becomes reality.’ I inspire others to do just that—stay focused on their vision and take purposeful, actionable steps.”

“We’re all capable of much more than we think. Fail forward. Setbacks are simply setups for something greater. Show up, smile, and give life your best shot.”

becomes reality,’” she says. “That’s what I teach—how to hold your vision and take actionable steps toward it.”

Her latest book, You Can Choose Your Family, tackles loneliness and the importance of building meaningful relationships.

“Not everyone has a large or supportive biological family, and that’s okay,” she says. “This book helps people build their own village—a chosen family that uplifts and supports them.”

In addition, Dr. Cie is deeply passionate about achieving optimal wellness, especially through innovative and cutting-edge treatments.

“Red light therapy is a game-changer,” she says.

In fact, Dr. Cie authored another book titled:  Transforming Health and Beauty: Red Light Therapy for You and Your Pets, which provides considerable knowledge, practical advice, and scientific insights to help you improve your family’s health and vitality. She recommends it as essential reading for anyone exploring natural, non-invasive ways to improve their own health and that of their animal companions.

“The low-level red light wavelengths promote healing, reduce inflammation, and enhance skin health.”

And she also swears by stem cell therapy.

“Years of martial arts left me with a bad knee, and stem cell therapy helped me avoid surgery,” she shares. “It’s about giving your body the tools it needs

to regenerate. Why settle for old stem cells when you can have the 22-year-old ones?”

Her approach to wellness is emphasizing the connection between physical, mental, and emotional health and she relays this message on her social feeds reaching nearly a million fans and followers.

“It starts with a decision,” she says. “Your life is the sum of your decisions. If you want a better life, make better decisions. You must decide to be healthy. Once you make that choice, everything else—your diet, exercise, and mindset—falls into place.”

Driven by her love for people and cultures, Dr. Cie has explored 158 countries and embarked on 98 cruises. Among her favorite adventures are scuba diving and immersing herself in the incredible wildlife of the Galapagos Islands.

“Travel fuels my soul,” she says. “Every person and place have a story, and I want to experience them all.”

As she looks to the future, Dr. Cie is eager to expand her platform and continue empowering others. “Life is short, and we’re all capable of so much more than we think,” she says. “Suffering is optional. If you’re struggling, you’re doing it wrong. Fail forward. Setbacks are just setups for something greater. Show up, smile, and give life your best shot.”

Empowering Wellness Resolutions to Redefine Your 2025

We asked trusted experts to spill their secrets to health and wellness success. Here’s what they said.

Optimizing Gut Health

Your gut plays a vital role in your overall health, influencing digestion, immunity, and even mood.

A diet rich in fiber is foundational. Aim for 30-40 grams of fiber daily from whole, plant-based foods like vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.

Prebiotics (garlic, bananas, and asparagus) nourish the beneficial bacteria already present in your gut. Probiotics (fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut) introduce helpful bacteria to enhance balance. You can also take high-quality prebiotic and probiotic supplements.

EVOO for Heart Health

My HDL (“good” cholesterol) wasn’t great, and my LDL (“bad” cholesterol) kept creeping up. Wanting to take control, I opted for a CT Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) score scan—a quick, non-invasive test that measures calcified plaque in your heart’s vessels.

The results were eye-opening: while I had no symptoms, my score indicated otherwise. Determined to avoid medication, I focused on improving my numbers through diet and exercise.

I discovered Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), packed with polyphenols that reduce inflammation, improve cholesterol, and lower oxidative stress. I committed to 2 tablespoons of EVOO daily for three months. The results? My HDL increased, and my LDL dropped.

Everyone’s situation is unique, so talk to your physician about a CAC scan. For me, EVOO was a small change with a big payoff.

Healthier Joints

Joints are more than cartilage and bone—they’re complex networks of cells with the ability to heal and renew. Cutting-edge treatments like PRP (platelet-rich plasma) supercharge this process, reducing inflammation and restoring strength.

Next, fuel your joints with inflammation-fighting foods. Turmeric, wild salmon, and dark leafy greens are proven natural remedies that protect joints and ease pain. In addition, low-impact activities protect joints from overuse while keeping you active.

Dr. Ashu Goyle, The Holistic Pain Doc- Integrated Spine, Pain, and Wellness

Endocrine Disruptors to Avoid

Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that interfere with hormones; messengers responsible for vital functions like metabolism and reproduction. These disruptors can cause health issues, especially in kids. Avoid sunscreen with endocrine-disrupting chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate. These can impact children’s growth and brain development, alter puberty, and harm reproductive health in adults. Instead, use mineral-based sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

Though natural, essential oils like lavender and tea tree can disrupt hormones. Repeated exposure is linked to gynecomastia in boys and early puberty in girls. Use oils cautiously and dilute appropriately. Nonstick cookware often contains PFAS, synthetic chemicals associated with hormone disruption, developmental issues, and even cancer. Instead, use alternatives like cast iron, stainless steel, or glass.

Rediscover Life Without Pain

When pain slows you down, surgery isn’t your only option. Pain is a signal, not a sentence—and cutting-edge solutions like orthobiologics are transforming recovery. These all-natural, regenerative treatments address the root cause of pain in the back, neck, joints, and limbs by reducing inflammation, promoting healthy tissue growth, and restoring injured areas. For many patients, orthobiologics deliver up to 85% improvement without invasive procedures.

Biologic therapies accelerate healing and get you back to the activities you love. Golfers with chronic back pain can benefit from the Discseel® Procedure, a minimally invasive treatment using a Fibrin biologic to repair torn discs and regenerate tissue. For conditions like tennis elbow or knee tendinitis, customized orthobiologic treatments offer safe, effective alternatives to steroids.

Debunking Myths about Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Balanced hormones are the foundation of feeling your best—don’t let misinformation stand in your way.

Myth 1: Bio-identical hormone replacement causes cancer.

Wrong! When administered and monitored properly, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) can actually protect against cancer. There are many types of estrogen and estrogen metabolites, and several of them are anti-cancer. Proper supervision ensures BHRT works in harmony with your body to provide optimal benefits.

Myth 2: Blood tests are the best way to monitor hormones.

Nope! Solely relying on blood tests could leave you with an incomplete picture of your hormone health and even do more harm than good. The gold standard for accurate hormone monitoring is a 24-hour wet urine test, which provides a comprehensive overview of your hormone levels and their metabolites.

Myth 3: If you didn’t start BHRT within 5–10 years of menopause, it’s too late.

Negative! It’s never too late to benefit from bio-identical hormone replacement. Whether you’re newly menopausal or years past it, balanced hormones can improve your quality of life.

Glowing Skin Year-Round

Winter often requires richer moisturizers to combat dryness, while spring and summer call for lighter, antioxidant-packed products. Combine these seasonal adjustments with hydrating facials or light peels to maintain a balanced complexion throughout the year. Treatments like RF microneedling or light therapies, like MOXI, refresh your skin and boost collagen production.

Wear a broad-spectrum SPF year-round with blue light protection to defend against UV rays and screen-induced aging. Pair your daily SPF routine with advanced treatments like BBL to address existing sun damage.

What to ask your OB

Knowing what to ask at your first prenatal appointment can set the tone for a healthy journey. Here’s why these six questions are key:

1. What is my estimated due date? This helps schedule key tests and track your baby’s growth.

2. Have I had carrier screening performed, and what are my options if not? Carrier screening identifies potential genetic conditions that could be passed to your baby, allowing for early preparation.

3. What are my options for Down Syndrome screening? Discussing screening options helps you understand your baby’s risk and plan follow-up care if needed.

4. Am I a candidate for low-dose aspirin during pregnancy? Low-dose aspirin may reduce the risk of preeclampsia.

5. Do I need early screening for gestational diabetes? Early screening identifies high blood sugar risks, allowing for timely management.

6. When will I receive information about my blood type? Knowing your blood type is critical for managing Rh factor incompatibility and potential complications.

Hydration Hacks for Radiant Skin

Choose warm showers over hot, as hot water can strip your skin of natural oils. Use gentle cleansers and apply a creamy moisturizer immediately after patting your skin dry—while still damp—to lock in hydration. Use moisturizers with hyaluronic acid.

Exfoliate wisely with a chemical exfoliator containing salicylic, lactic, or glycolic acid—ditch harsh scrubs and loofahs. For extra dryness, try “slugging” twice a week with Vaseline. After showering, apply Vaseline to your face, hands, or feet, slip on cotton gloves or socks, and awake to baby-soft skin. Consider adding Verisol collagen supplements to your routine for enhanced skin elasticity.

Boosting Cellular Health

Every process in your body—energy pro duction, tissue repair, toxin elimination— depends on well-nourished, healthy cells.

Unlike oral supplements, IV therapy bypasses the digestive system, delivering nutrients like B vitamins, magnesium, and zinc straight into your bloodstream. This ensures maximum absorption, pro viding your cells with what they need to thrive—ideal for those with gut health issues or nutrient deficiencies.

IV therapy supplies glutathione and vitamin C to neutralize free radicals, reduce inflammation, and protect against cellular damage. These benefits combat aging and can prevent chronic conditions caused by oxidative stress.

For an energy boost, IV options like NAD+ target mitochondrial health helping fuel your body from within.

A MODERN BLUEPRINT for Men 40+

Redefining Men’s Health: Achieve Vitality, Strength, and Balance as You Age

As men cross into their 40s, prioritizing health takes on a new dimension. Beyond visible signs of aging, subtle shifts in hormonal balance, particularly testosterone levels, can trigger changes like decreased energy, decreased sexual health, and muscle loss. However, aging is an opportunity to recalibrate and thrive.

Here’s how to adopt a targeted, researchbacked strategy to elevate your health and sustain vitality.

BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION WITH CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH

Cardiovascular fitness is the cornerstone of longevity and overall wellness. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, cardiovascular disease claims a life every 37 seconds in the U.S. alone. Regular aerobic exercise like brisk walking, swimming, or cycling doesn’t just boost heart health—it fuels energy, endurance, and resilience. Research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology highlights that 150 minutes of moderate exercise weekly significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular issues.

STRENGTH TRAINING: THE KEY TO AGING STRONG

Strength training isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s essential for maintaining muscle mass, bone density, and metabolic health as you age. Studies, including one in the Journal of Applied Physiology, confirm that resistance training can improve muscle power and even reverse structural brain changes linked to Alzheimer’s dementia. Beyond physical benefits, it strengthens your independence and quality of life.

RETHINK NUTRITION FOR ENERGY AND LONGEVITY

Your diet is your fuel—and it’s time to upgrade. Lean into the Mediterranean diet, rich in whole foods, lean proteins, healthy fats, and vibrant fruits and vegetables. This dietary approach is a proven powerhouse for reducing heart disease risk and boosting cognitive health. However, it’s not just about the food; it’s about the experience. Adopt the Mediterranean mindset of enjoying meals with family and friends—it enriches your relationships, reduces stress and enhances mental well-being.

PRIORITIZE MENTAL HEALTH LIKE PHYSICAL HEALTH

Mental well-being is inseparable from physical health. Incorporate mindfulness practices like meditation, yoga, or even mindful breathing to manage stress. Exercise is another potent tool, with studies in the American Journal of Psychiatry showing it can be as effective as medication for mild to moderate depression. Treat your mental health practices as essential as your workouts—you’ll feel sharper, calmer, and more resilient.

SLEEP SMARTER, NOT LONGER

Sleep is the ultimate reset button for your body and brain. Yet, as we age, sleep quality often declines. Focus on creating an optimal sleep environment: maintain a consistent schedule, limit blue light exposure before bed, and make your room cool and quiet. Research in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine underscores how sleep deprivation impairs cognitive function, increases accident risks, and exacerbates chronic health conditions.

STAY PROACTIVE WITH HEALTH CHECKUPS

Preventive care is your best defense. Physicals, comprehensive blood work, and open discussions with healthcare providers about your testosterone levels or other concerns can catch issues before they escalate. IIf you’re noticing fatigue, decreasing sexual wellness, or muscle loss, it’s worth exploring whether hormonal imbalances are at play. At Men’s Revival, we offer a complimentary health assessment and blood panel done in the comfort of your own home.

REDEFINE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH ALCOHOL

While moderate drinking may have some benefits, the risks of excessive consumption far outweigh them. Studies in The Lancet reveal that even moderate alcohol intake can increase the risk of certain cancers. Incorporate alcohol-free days into your week and focus on beverages that support your health, like herbal teas or sparkling water.

As an NBA and MLS sports physical therapist and performance coach, I’m here to help you kick off 2025 with unparalleled strength and vitality. My expertly crafted 30 for 30 Movement & Mobility Challenge is designed to be straightforward, effective, and inclusive—perfect for everyone from seasoned athletes to those just beginning their fitness journey.

WHY DAILY MOVEMENT AND MOBILITY MATTER

Movement is medicine. It’s the cornerstone of physical health, injury prevention, and peak performance. But movement alone isn’t enough, mobility is equally crucial. It’s the foundation that allows your body to move through its full range of motion without pain or restriction. Together, movement and mobility form the bedrock of any successful fitness routine.

The 30 for 30 Challenge is simple: dedicate just 30 minutes a day for 30 days. The challenge combines daily mobility work with movement options to fit your preferences. Whether you’re looking to boost flexibility, improve strength, or establish consistent habits, this plan has you covered.

MOBILITY: SET THE FOUNDATION (10 MINUTES)

These stretches are designed to loosen the hips, improve flexibility, and prepare your body for more intense movement.

Here’s how to perform the mobility routine:

• Two single-side stretches, performed on both right and left sides.

• One full-body stretch to target larger movement patterns.

• Hold each stretch for 60 seconds, then repeat the entire sequence for a total of 10 minutes.  CONTINUED >

The Stretches:

• Pigeon Stretch: From plank, bring one knee forward, shin angled. Extend the opposite leg straight, lean into hips, hold stretch.

• World’s Greatest Stretch: From lunge, place hands inside front foot, twist torso, reach overhead. Return, switch sides, repeat.

• Cobra: Lie prone, hands under shoulders. Press chest upward, extend elbows, keeping hips grounded. Lower slowly.

MOVEMENT: GET MOVING (20 MINUTES)

For the movement portion, select from one of three options:

1. Walk 1 mile – Perfect for those who enjoy low-impact cardio and fresh air.

2. Run 2 miles – A more intense option to get your heart pumping and improve endurance.

3. 20-minute strength workout – A fast and efficient way to build strength.

The strength workout uses a superset format, meaning you’ll alternate between two exercises with minimal rest in between. This method maximizes time efficiency and keeps your heart rate elevated for added cardio benefits.

HERE’S THE WORKOUT BREAKDOWN:

A1: Goblet Squat 2 x 15: Hold weight at chest, feet shoulder-width. Squat down, keeping chest up, then return to standing.

A2: Bear Hold 2 x 30 seconds: Hands under shoulders, knees under hips, hover knees above ground. Maintain neutral spine, hold.

B1: Kickstand RDL 2 x 15 each side: Slightly stagger stance. Hinge hips back, lower weight, keep back flat. Return upright.

B2: Trunk Lift 2 x 30 seconds each side: Lie side-lying, lift torso laterally using obliques. Hold, lower slowly.

C1: Push-up 2 x 15: Hands under shoulders, lower chest to floor, keeping core tight. Press back up.

C2: Single Leg Glute Bridge 2 x 15 each leg: Lie back, one foot planted, other raised. Press through the heel, lift hips, lower slowly.

D1: Dumbbell Row 2 x 15 each side: Hinge at hips, back flat. Pull dumbbell toward ribs, squeeze shoulder blade, lower.

D2: Hamstring Bridge 2 x 30 seconds: Heels on floor, lift hips, keeping back straight. Hold, engage hamstrings, lower slowly.

THE POWER OF HABITS

Consistency is key. By committing to just 30 minutes a day, you’ll create a sustainable routine that can lead to lasting improvements in your health. Over time, these small daily wins will add up, helping you feel stronger, more mobile, and better equipped to tackle life’s challenges.

Welcome to Mayorhood, Mark Stanton!

MAYOR MEETS MAYOR: DAVE PRATT CHATS WITH NEW PV MAYOR MARK STANTON

ARTICLE BY “MAYOR” DAVE PRATT, MEDIA MOGUL

Say hello to Paradise Valley’s new Mayor, Mark Stanton! But wait—did you know Hall of Fame Media Personality Dave Pratt has been affectionately called “The Mayor” for over 40 years? Read as Mayor Pratt interviews Mayor Stanton, sharing laughs, stories, and their love for Arizona.

CONGRATS ON THE NEW ROLE, MAYOR STANTON! WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT STEPPING INTO THIS TITLE?

I am humbled to be elected as Mayor of Paradise Valley. Serving on the Town Council for a decade, twice elected by my colleagues as Vice Mayor, has been an honor. I’m excited to work with our engaged residents, dedicated council members, and exceptional staff to serve this remarkable community.

WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN AGENDA ITEMS?

Primary goals include protecting the low density, maintaining limited government and, most importantly, public safety.

HOW DOES YOUR ROLE AS SCOTTSDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CEO ALIGN WITH YOUR NEW POSITION AS MAYOR?

There are great synergies with my professional role as President & CEO of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce and Mayor of Paradise Valley.

The Chamber is a non-government, member-based, business organization. A key role of the mayor is to build relationships with leadership in adjacent municipalities, as well as at the State Legislature.   At the Chamber, I collaborate with business leaders, municipalities, utilities, and key stakeholders across Arizona.

WHERE DO YOU SEE PARADISE VALLEY IN 30 YEARS?

I see Paradise Valley continuing as a highly sought-after residential town with world-class resorts and a reputation as a safe, low density and high quality of life community. I see resorts investing to maintain their properties as top-tier destinations and home values increasing. Most of all, I see us keeping the small-town feel and high quality of life for our residents.

YOU ARE A TRUE PARADISE VALLEY “BOY MADE GOOD” STORY. HOW WERE THINGS DIFFERENT BACK THEN?

The Town of Paradise Valley has always had charm and elegance from my days at Kiva Elementary School and as a Saguaro H.S. Sabercat. When I was young, Lincoln Drive was only two lanes and there were horse properties everywhere as well as the iconic Judson School. Over the years, the Town has grown and roads have become more sophisticated, but PV’s charm is forever preserved.

WHAT WERE YOU LIKE IN HIGH SCHOOL?

I was very involved in school activities. I was on the Saguaro wrestling team and in the Speech & Debate Club and Key Club. I played bass guitar and was in rock bands. I worked as a busser at the Scottsdale Hilton and an assistant at Kwik Kopy Printing.

WHAT DID YOU DO FOR FUN?

Loved going to Legend City, Big Surf, Fashion Square, and tubing down the Salt River. I also enjoyed riding my bike to Camelback Inn and met famous rock stars like Led Zeppelin.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CONCERT?

Fleetwood Mac at the Phoenix Convention Center! My favorite bands include The Cars, Rolling Stones, Eddie Money, REO Speedwagon, and Van Halen.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.

I was raised by a single mom and was so grateful to grow up in our beautiful community.

My wife and I met through work; she had a successful career in advertising and I worked in public relations. Barb and I have been married for 18 years and have two awesome children Drake (17) and Olivia (15)... and our dog Roxie (6).

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A DAD?

Family means everything—they’re fun, lively, and always keep me on my toes! I love seeing my kids blossom into young adults. My stepdaughter and her husband have two young girls. Barb and I adore being “Gigi” and “Papa” to our granddaughters.

NOW THAT YOU’RE MAYOR, DOES YOUR WIFE STILL MAKE YOU ROLL OUT THE TRASH BINS?

My wife (also my Campaign Manager) keeps the family on task for our household duties. Everyone has a role keeping the household running smoothly; Barb keeps ambitious standards. And yes, I do take out the garbage... unless it’s Drake’s week.

ALONG WITH A GOOD PARKING SPACE, WHAT ARE OTHER PERKS YOU GET AS MAYOR? DO THEY GIVE YOU A GAVEL?

The mayor does not have a designated parking space, but there is a gavel. The Mayor, Town Council and all the Paradise Valley Municipal Judges are volunteer positions. Our Town thrives on volunteerism! The real “perk” is serving PV.

“I’m

excited to work with our engaged residents, dedicated council members, and exceptional staff to serve this remarkable community.”

SINCE YOU ARE MY FRIEND, CAN YOU GET ME OUT OF PHOTO RADAR TICKETS ON LINCOLN?

Sorry Dave, no can do, but I imagine there are some great photos of you in the photo radar archives!

CAN YOU GET ME GOOD RESERVATIONS AT EL CHORRO?

Not that either, but I can fully endorse their world-famous sticky buns!

YOU’RE ALSO A PODCAST HOST HERE AT OUR PRATT STUDIOS, STAR WORLDWIDE NETWORKS. TELL US MORE.

I studied Mass Communications at the University of Denver and did some radio and TV production. Now, with my role at The Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce, I have the privilege of doing a monthly podcast with your amazing team, Dave. It’s a great production organization, and I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate.

ONE LAST QUESTION. I GET TIRED HIKING UP CAMELBACK... AS MAYOR, CAN YOU GET ME A CHAIRLIFT?

Unfortunately, Dave, Town ordinance will not allow a chairlift on Camelback. We can all use the exercise and enjoy the view.

THANK YOU, MR. MAYOR.

Thank you, Mr. Mayor!

Meet Scottsdale’s New Mayor

GETTING TO KNOW LISA BOROWSKY: A CANDID AND PERSONAL CONVERSATION

A Scottsdale native, Mayor Lisa Borowsky is committed to preserving the city’s unique character while strengthening ties with neighboring communities- Paradise Valley, Arcadia, and the greater Phoenix area.

“What happens in Scottsdale impacts our neighbors, and vice versa. We’re connected in a family of cities,” says Scottsdale’s new mayor.

Lisa Borowsky’s Scottsdale roots run deep, reflecting on an upbringing spent in a town that looked vastly different from what we see today.

“We lived in North Scottsdale, which back then was Cholla and Scottsdale Road. It was mostly horse properties and wide-open spaces.”

In fact, Lisa’s childhood revolved around horses.

“My sister and I begged our parents for a horse,” she says, laughing.

When her father finally gave in, their first horse was delivered straight to their front yard, an unconventional but memorable beginning to their equestrian adventures.

“I essentially grew up at the stables where Cracker Jax has been. It taught me discipline, responsibility, and the importance of following your passions, even as a kid.”

Lisa’s parents, who she affectionately calls “the original house flippers,” moved frequently.

“I went to five high schools and graduated in three and a half years,” she shares.

It wasn’t easy, but the constant change taught Lisa how to adapt quickly and connect with all kinds of people—a skill that would serve her down the road.

“My mom was the powerhouse behind our moves, and my dad was my rock. He’s the person I admire most.”

As a child, Lisa toyed with a career as a dolphin trainer. However, by sixth grade, she set her sights on a career in law. After graduating high school, she earned her law degree in New York. With her education complete, Lisa returned to Scottsdale to build both her career and family, staying connected to the community she’s always called home.

“Coming back felt right. Arizona is home, and I wanted my daughter to grow up with the sense of community I had.”

As a single mother, Lisa’s daughter became the center of her world. Balancing the demands of her legal career with raising a child wasn’t always easy, but it was always worth it.

“I wanted to show her that you can work hard, follow your dreams, and still prioritize family.”

One of Lisa’s favorite parts of Scottsdale is our food scene. She spent time as a restaurant reviewer on 12News a while back enjoying a brief stint on TV. And as a self-proclaimed foodie, you can often find Lisa hanging at Roaring Fork.

“They even have a special drink with my name on it—the ‘Little Lisa.’”

After serving an initial city council term, Lisa lost her bid in the 2020 mayor’s race but leaned on lessons learned during her childhood.

“Don’t let failure define you. Whether you’re a kid who didn’t make the team or an adult who didn’t get the job, it doesn’t change your potential. Just get back on the horse and make the next ride better.”

“My goal is to ensure Scottsdale remains a place where families can thrive, businesses can succeed, and tourists feel welcome.”

TRANSFORMATIONS THAT INSPIRE: MY FAVORITE PATIENT STORIES OF 2024

Each person who walks into my practice has a unique story, motivation, and goal. In 2024, I had the honor of working with hundreds of incredible individuals, but here are three stories that warmed my heart and reminded me why I love what I do.

Scottsdale’s Hottest Bachelor

Mr. Scottsdale had colon cancer resulting in a soft tissue defect in his pelvis. So, the first time we met, I was fixing a large hole in the affected area by filling the space with a muscle from his leg. Talk about first impressions! But little did I know that this man’s infectious love of life would make him a close friend and life-long patient. From his Botox to Eyelid surgery and from my family’s baby showers to soccer games, he became an integral part of our lives. He’s an inspiration to our practice and it’s always fun to remind him about our first encounter.

Phoenix’s Restored Beauty

Hidradenitis Supportiva is a rare condition that causes wounds throughout the body. When I first met this young 24-year-old woman, she had diseased areas in the armpits, breasts, groin, abdomen, and buttocks. She went through intense periods of emotional distress. Multiple other surgeons sent her away. I removed the diseased tissue from her troubled areas. Then I did a breast lift to repair the breasts and a tummy tuck to remove the affected areas on her belly. I’ll never forget the first time she came to the clinic all healed and “glammed up.” I still think about her beautiful smiling face and how she was so excited to show off her new body. I need to introduce her to Mr. Scottsdale.

The Restored Mother

Like most moms, the Restored Mother of four devoted years to her family always putting herself last. When she finally decided to invest in herself, unfortunately the surgeon she chose botched her. She didn’t realize he was not Board Certified. He did not remove enough skin, never fixed her abdominal muscles, and gave her a high vertical scar. She also couldn’t find anyone to help. So, when I told her I could fix it, her tears almost made me cry. The results were transformative-not just physically but emotionally. Seeing her with a radiant smile and sharing stories of her newfound confidence was unforgettable. The “thank you’s” from her continue to this day.

“Don’t let failure define you. Whether you’re a kid who didn’t make the team or an adult who didn’t get the job, it doesn’t change your potential. Just get back on the horse and make the next ride better.”

Lisa’s commitment to business stems not only from her professional experience but also from her personal connections. Her brother’s entrepreneurial journey piqued her political curiosity and reinforced the importance of a secure business climate. Despite their differing paths—Lisa, the lawyer and public servant, and her brother, a businessman who at the age of 21 established one of Old Town’s original hot spots, later owning a local gentlemen’s club.

“Even though my brother and I took very different professional roads, his entrepreneurial spirit is admirable. It’s not about agreeing with every business owner or model; it’s about recognizing all legally operating businesses must be treated equally. It is not the government’s role to pick ‘winners and losers’ based on personal bias. This is a baseline principle which guides my approach to all local businesses in Scottsdale.”

Lisa’s focus on reducing regulatory hurdles and promoting a business-friendly environment stems from this belief and serves as a cornerstone in her approach to governing.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our community. Making it easier, less expensive, and less burdensome for them to operate is a priority for me. My goal is to ensure Scottsdale remains a place where families can thrive, businesses can succeed, and tourists feel welcome.”

As the RN for Arcadia’s Metier Clinical Services, I’m constantly asked if we have Mounjaro. Well, the demand for Mounjaro has skyrocketed as a weight loss solution, so it’s tough to get your hands on the name brand.

However, what people don’t understand is there’s amore viable and readily available solution specifically for weight loss: Tirzepatide compounded with L-Carnitine.

When used together, the compound improves muscle recovery, exercises performance and aids in appetite suppression, blood sugar regulation, and food cravings.

And the best part, we have both Tirzepatide and Semaglutide readily available.

LIFE IN THE FAST LANE WITH CRAIG JACKSON

BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE WORLD’S GREATEST COLLECTOR CAR AUCTIONS

Craig Jackson doesn’t just steer Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions, to incredible success—he also fuels it with his passion for adrenaline, innovation, and unforgettable experiences. From piloting the family business into the world of live television to selling some of the most iconic cars in history, Craig’s story is as fast paced and exciting as the cars that roll across his auction block.

“Finding balance and disconnecting from the fast-paced business world is crucial,” says Craig.

“My favorite downtime activities are boating, getting behind the wheel, and hitting the road just to see the sights—or letting off some steam on the racetrack, which is always a great adrenaline rush. I love anything fast and high adrenaline.”

Craig was hands-on with cars from an early age. He often helped his father restore and prepare cars for auctions, giving him a deep understanding of both the business and the vehicles themselves. His father Russ and brother Brian founded Barrett-Jackson in 1971, and Craig officially joined the company in 1978. He took over as chairman and CEO in 1995.

When Craig took the reins of Barrett-Jackson, he made a decision that would revolutionize the car auction world: broadcasting the event live on television.

“It wasn’t done back then, and there were quite a few skeptics who doubted the idea would work,” he recalls. “Fortunately, it turned out to be groundbreaking and changed the world of car collecting forever. The Barrett-Jackson TV broadcast is now among the most successful and long-running live television series ever. In 2024, we marked our 28th year on the airwaves.”

As the collector car market evolves, Craig keeps his finger on the pulse of what enthusiasts are seeking.

“An interesting shift we’ve seen is the growing demand for supercars,” he explains. “Our customers are increasingly turning to these incredible highend vehicles not just for their performance and craftsmanship but also as a form of investment.”

Resto-Mods—classic cars with modern upgrades—continue to dominate the scene as well.

“No matter what’s under the hood, from internal combustion to electric to hydrogen, people just love the look of vintage cars. We will continue to diversify our dockets to include classics and new supercars to appeal to current and future collectors.”

When you’re in the business of selling rare and iconic cars, memorable moments are guaranteed. For Craig, one auction stands out.

“One of the craziest auction moments was when we sold the original Batmobile in 2013 for $4.62 million. Having two bidders sitting right behind each other, going head-to-head, back and forth with millions of dollars, then flipping a coin to see who would get it was incredible. The atmosphere and energy were amazing. Everyone could feel the adrenaline and excitement in the arena.”

What makes Barrett-Jackson events truly special isn’t just the cars—it’s the spectacle.

“One interesting behind-the-scenes aspect is creating the massive event space,” Craig says.

“The auction spans over one million square feet under cover, with areas for vendor booths, vehicles, hospitality, and the television compound that broadcasts the event to thousands of viewers around the world.”

It’s a production that’s no small feat.

“The setup for the television production is particularly elaborate, involving cameras and the broadcast team capturing the excitement and energy of the auction. Building out this massive site requires months of preparation with the team working tirelessly to construct everything. The sheer scale and global prestige of BarrettJackson make it a world-class production we look forward to putting on every year.”

Craig’s personal car collection includes rare and iconic vehicles like a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, a 2005 Ford GT, and a 2019 McLaren Senna. The auto enthusiast has received numerous accolades, including being named one of the “Top 50 Car Collectors” by Sports Car Market and being inducted into the Diecast Hall of Fame.

Barrett-Jackson has since evolved into a global event, a community of collectors, and a platform that keeps the world’s love for automobiles alive and thriving. Whether Craig is tearing down the racetrack, curating an epic docket of cars, or orchestrating the year’s most adrenaline-packed auction, his passion and vision ensure that Barrett-Jackson remains the ultimate destination for car enthusiasts.

“It’s all about creating unforgettable moments—for us and for every single person who joins the Barrett-Jackson experience.”

Under Craig’s leadership, BarrettJackson has raised over $150 million for charities. The auctions often feature one-of-a-kind vehicles sold to benefit causes, making philanthropy a cornerstone of his work.

Taking group lessons with my brother from my coach, John Ortega— who’s still my coach today—or running around in my grandparents’ golf cart in Palm Springs, just hitting balls wherever I could.

“STEPPING ONTO THE OPEN’S 16TH HOLE WITH THAT CROWD IS UNFORGETTABLE.”

one of persistence, passion, and purpose. Now a Scottsdale resident, Jake’s ready to make his mark at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and beyond. In this exclusive Q&A, Jake shares his journey, insights, and what makes him tick on and off the course.

HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY WITH GOLF BEGIN IN YOUR HOMETOWN OF COSTA MESA?

I grew up down the street from Costa Mesa Country Club. My dad would take my brother and me there when we were young, and it became a big part of our lives. My grandparents also had homes in Palm Springs, so visits there always revolved around golf too.

WHEN DID YOU KNOW GOLF WAS YOUR CALLING?

I think I played my first tournament when I was six. I loved it from the start, but it wasn’t until high school that I decided to focus solely on golf. It became clear that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

HOW DID WINNING YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL TOURNAMENT SHAPE YOUR CAREER?

Winning two of the first three events on the Canadian Tour in 2019 was huge. It gave me the confidence to believe I was ready for the next stage and set me on the path to where I am today.

HOW DO YOU MENTALLY PREPARE FOR A TOURNAMENT?

It’s all about staying in the moment. I constantly remind myself to focus on what will help me hit a better shot or lower my score. If it doesn’t help, I push it aside.

WHAT SEPARATES GREAT GOLFERS FROM GOOD ONES?

The ability to identify your flaws and work on them honestly, instead of avoiding them.

DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR OR IDOL?

Tiger Woods, Luke Donald and Adam Scott for their longevity and approach to the game.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF THE WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN?

The energy! Stepping onto the 16th hole with that crowd is unforgettable.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN SCOTTSDALE?

The people, the atmosphere—it reminds me of Southern California but with its own charm.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH PXG?

This was year two with them. I’ve loved every minute of it.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR GOLFING STYLE WITH PXG?

PXG is all about attention to detail. It feels personal, like a family. Their fittings and equipment are top-notch, which is why I joined them.

IF YOU WEREN’T GOLFING, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I’d probably dive into fitness. I love training and the challenge of pushing myself physically.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUNG GOLFERS?

Don’t get caught up in where you come from or what resources you have. It’s about how hard you work. The answers are in the dirt—just go out there and put in the effort.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-GAME RITUALS OR SUPERSTITIONS?

I always keep three tees in my right pocket—no more, no less—and my ball marker goes in my right pocket too. My routine before every round stays the same.

“MY ROUTINE BEFORE EVERY ROUND STAYS THE SAME.”

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE VICTORY?

My first two wins on the Canadian Tour stand out. They solidified my belief that I could compete at a higher level.

IF YOU COULD PLAY A DREAM FOURSOME, WHO WOULD JOIN YOU?

Tiger Woods, Luke Donald, and Adam Scott.

WHAT’S ON YOUR PLAYLIST?

I’m a huge Mac Miller fan.

HOW DO YOU UNWIND OUTSIDE OF GOLF?

I play video games to stay connected with my friends back in California. It’s a great way to relax and keep in touch.

WHAT ARE YOUR ASPIRATIONS FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?

I’d love to win multiple tournaments, maybe even a major, and represent Team USA in events like the Ryder Cup.

WHAT’S THE KEY TO SOLVING YOUR SPECIAL TALENT- MASTERING THE RUBIK’S CUBE?

It’s all about muscle memory and a lot of practice, honestly. Once you get the hang of the algorithms, it becomes second nature. It’s a fun challenge that keeps my mind sharp and focused!

the countdown is on! only one month until the most exciting event of the year takes over the valley – the waste management phoenix open! Whether you’re a local or a guest coming in town, this is a don miss event... and we’re here to help get the party started! Book girl about town for you decor and itinerary planning.

Loved by Pros, CREATED IN AZ

What do you get when a “hat nerd,” a love of golf, and a dad’s perspective come together? You get Arch & Axel, a golf brand that puts kids at the center of the game.

Inspired by his passion for the sport and his two young sons, Scottsdale-based founder Kyle Jennings launched a line of stylish, high-quality hats designed to empower kids.

“It all started on the putting green. I saw a dad with his young son, and the boy’s hat—though clearly a popular golf brand—was about four sizes too big. That’s when it hit me: Why don’t kids have gear made just for them? Not hand-me-downs or mini adult versions, but something made specifically for them,” says Kyle Jennings, founder of Arch & Axel.

Named after his sons, Arch & Axel was born to make kids the heroes of the game.

“There are so many cool kids’ clothing lines, but none really focus on golf. I wanted to create something premium that gives kids the same level of swag as the pros, but tailored to their size and style. The goal is to make every kid feel like they’re ready for greatness.”

Kyle’s design philosophy quickly expanded to include parents.

“The twinning options came from a little FOMO. “When I got my first order of hats and saw how great they turned out, I immediately wanted some for myself! The matching options for parents are limited on purpose. They’re meant to connect parents with their kids, but the kids are always the stars.”

While Arch & Axel’s mission is focused on kids, a surprising opportunity arose early on: creating hats for PGA Tour pro Kevin Chappell.

“Through a friend, I got the chance to design hats for Kevin. At the time, I wasn’t even ready to sell my first hat! But I couldn’t say no.”

Seeing his designs worn on the PGA Tour was surreal.

From the Fairway to FOMO: How Arch & Axel is Redefining Golf Fashion for Kids

DEAR DR. LEXI

With the holidays upon us, I am often asked about my thoughts regarding alcohol consumption during pregnancy. There is only one safe way to answer this question: there is no “safe” amount of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. We know that alcohol crosses the placenta. In fact, approximately 2 hours after alcohol is consumed the fetal alcohol level will reach that of the mother’s alcohol level. We also know that alcohol exposure can impact fetal development. The varied effects caused by alcohol are often classified as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. In the United States up to 50% of women that are of childbearing age drink alcohol, and up to 20% continue drinking once they learn they are pregnant.

So, this holiday season, if you are pregnant (or trying to become pregnant), reach for a sparkling water with a splash of your favorite juice... everyone loves a good mocktail!

Scan the QR code below and click on the YouTube channel icon to listen to my podcast with chef Christopher Gross as we talk about the labels placed on wine and the signage needed in restaurants to encourage pregnant individuals to avoid alcohol. www.drlexihill.com | V @drlexihill

“It validated everything I was working toward. But at the end of the day, it’s still about the kids. They’re the heart of this brand.”

Arch & Axel’s standout “Character Collection” introduces playful, golfthemed characters like “Tee Rex” and “Shanks the Shark.”

“I wanted to lean into what kids love bringing a sense of whimsy to the game. These characters make the brand memorable and connect with kids in a unique way.”

And the buzz gets better! This year, Arch & Axel designed family day hats for the Thunderbirds at the Waste Management Phoenix Open (WMPO).

“The WMPO is an incredible event that brings the community together. Being part of it is such an honor.”

For Kyle, golf isn’t just a sport—it’s a teacher of life lessons.

“Golf is hard. It’s humbling. It teaches patience, discipline, and resilience. Even the best players have bad days, and that’s okay.”

This philosophy drives Arch & Axel’s mission: to create products that make kids feel confident, inspired, and excited to play—regardless of their skill level.

“Eventually we’ll expand into other apparel and accessories. The possibilities are endless, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes us.”

For parents considering their own entrepreneurial ventures, Kyle offers simple advice: “There’s no perfect time— just go for it. Balance is key, and passion makes the effort worth it. Take your time and do it right.”

With its focus on fun, connection, and quality, Arch & Axel isn’t just a golf brand—it’s a celebration of family, resilience, and the joy of the game.

“It’s not about how you play—it’s about how you feel while you’re playing. And we want every kid to feel like they’re ready for greatness.”

A Monthly Spotlight Series Featuring Three Industry Leaders Making Waves in the Valley

Behind the Brand and Beyond the Business

Each month, we spotlight three of our dynamic partners giving you a unique glimpse into their personal passions and perspectives. Each gets 100 words to answer a hand-selected question, giving you a deeper connection to the people driving the Valley and serving our sacred community.

How

do your personal and professional core values collide?

Integrity and transparency are core values for me and our company. Coupled with a desire for service and strong family values, these personal characteristics govern my approach to business and my relationship with my clients. I strive to put my best foot forward and be a problem solver. This lets me sleep well at night and has also resulted in earning new and repeat clients. My tenacity to complete challenging projects has defined my company’s reputation for delivering customer success.

How do you maintain balance in your life while pursuing ambitious goals?

Maintaining balance begins with clear priorities and boundaries. I intentionally dedicate time to family, personal health, and mindfulness, which fuel my ability to support others. Valuing delegation, I trust my team to handle responsibilities so I can focus on what matters most. I also say no to things that don’t align with my values or goals. I embrace “work-life integration” over “work-life balance,” blending personal and professional commitments to create a sustainable rhythm that aligns with my values for long-term success.

Brook Choulet, M.D., Choulet Performance Psychiatry®

Why

did you choose this career?

My journey into animal chiropractic started with our dog, Dakota. As a baby, she was 11 pounds, but eventually grew to 175 pounds. Her rapid growth took a toll on her hips, and by age four, she needed a full hip replacement—something we couldn’t afford as newlyweds. Refusing to give up, I took a leap of faith and enrolled in animal chiropractic school. Dakota proceeded to live five more joyful, painfree years without surgery. Today, I’m honored to help other animals live healthier, happier lives.

BUILDING RESILIENT FAMILIES in a Distracted World

Transformative Goals from a Teacher-Turned-Parenting Mentor

Jennifer Blalock, an esteemed Scottsdale kindergarten teacher for over 30 years, is now a parenting instructor with the North Central Parenting Group (NCPG). She’s been recognized with numerous accolades, including a nomination for Disney’s American Teacher Award and the Scottsdale Charros Outstanding Educator. Jennifer is passionate about guiding families to foster connection.

After 30 years in the classroom and countless hours spent guiding parents, one truth remains undeniable: the time we have to shape our children’s lives is both precious and fleeting. The foundation for resilience, integrity, and a strong sense of self must be built thoughtfully and intentionally in their early years. Eighteen years may seem like a long time, but it passes in the blink of an eye. By the time your child reaches fifth grade, the outside world is already knocking loudly, shaping their thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. As parents, every interaction becomes a precious opportunity to teach, listen, and connect. I always encourage parents to carve out one-on-one time with their child daily, even if it’s just a few minutes. Turn off distractions, put your phone away, and give them your full attention. This intentional presence sends a powerful message: “You are important to me.”

In today’s chaotic and fast-paced world, children need a “home base”—a space where they feel safe, valued, and deeply connected. This isn’t about enforcing rigid rules but rather cultivating a family culture that fosters security, belonging, and confidence. A strong family identity helps children navigate external pressures with resilience. Involve your child in defining your family’s core values, and most importantly, live those values through your actions, not just your words. Surround them with a supportive “team” of trusted adults—mentors, family friends, or extended relatives—who can offer guidance and a safe, reliable network as they grow.

As we dive into 2025, it’s an opportunity to reflect on how we can be more intentional in our parenting. Today’s world is filled with unprecedented challenges and distractions—from the constant pull of technology to the societal pressures our children face daily. Families must navigate these dynamics while fostering meaningful connections, resilience, and a sense of purpose in their children.

RESILIENCE THROUGH FAILURE

Failure is a great teacher, yet it’s natural for parents to help shield their children from discomfort. However, if we always rescue them, they’re robbed of the opportunity to develop grit and problem-solving skills. Let your child face setbacks and guide them toward solutions.

BALANCE TECHNOLOGY WITH REAL-LIFE SKILLS

Screens are here to stay, but they don’t have to dominate. Set boundaries like tech-free meals and model healthy tech use. Encourage hands-on activities such as cooking or fixing things to foster independence, creativity, and balance in your child’s life.

VARY EXPERIENCES WITHOUT PIGEONHOLING

Give your child the chance to explore different activities, from sports to arts to STEM, without narrowing their focus too early. Encourage them to see each commitment through, teaching perseverance and helping them discover their true passions while building confidence and honoring their individuality.

FOSTER EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE

In a world of instant gratification, children often miss learning patience and perseverance. These qualities are crucial for managing stress and building confidence. Allow your child to solve problems on their own. When they’re frustrated, validate their feelings and guide them to critically think about next steps.

BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media connects but also distracts. Teach digital literacy by discussing online safety, misinformation, and the curated nature of social media. Emphasize real-life connections and have open conversations. Lead by example with healthy screen habits, showing your child how to use technology mindfully and responsibly.

THE VALUE OF “SLOW”

Our culture often glorifies busyness, but children need unstructured time to rest, process emotions, and spark creativity. Protect downtime in your child’s schedule. Amid extracurricular activities, leave space for exploration and rest. Teach them that balance is essential to a fulfilling life.

FRAMING Success

As a photographer for celebrities, athletes, and entrepreneurs with over two decades of experience, I’ve learned that capturing moments and achieving big goals both thrive on imperfection. Often, the best results come from the unexpected. Here are lessons to inspire your 2025 goals.

Start with vision, not details.  Photoshoots begin with a concept—a mood, story, or a feeling—not nitty-gritty details. Goal-setting works the same way. Focus on the big picture and the outcome you want to achieve.

Collaboration fuels success. No shoot is solo— success takes a team of stylists and assistants. Likewise, tackle your goals with support from mentors, collaborators, or accountability partners.

Stay flexible. In photography, unplanned moments often produce the best shots. Life’s twists and turns can do the same for your goals. Embrace the detours. Some of my favorite photos weren’t “perfect;” rather, raw and authentic. Find meaning in the process itself.

Celebrate small wins. Sharing great shots during a shoot keeps energy high. Similarly, celebrating small victories keeps momentum strong.

Reflect and refine. After every shoot, I analyze what worked and what didn’t to improve. Reflect on your achievements and challenges, and let them guide your next steps.

2025 Never Looked So Good

5 WAYS TO INCORPORATE HAUTE COUTURE DESIGN INTO YOUR INTERIORS

Haute couture is the epitome of craftsmanship, creativity, and bespoke luxury. As an award-winning interior designer, I’ve always been inspired by the artistry most often seen on the runway. But those same principles—attention to detail, individuality, and exquisite design—can be seamlessly woven into your home. By embracing the essence of haute couture in your interiors, you can create a space that is not only sophisticated but also a true reflection of your personal style.

EMBRACE HANDCRAFTED DETAILS

Haute couture is synonymous with meticulous craftsmanship, with each piece telling a story of human touch and effort. The same philosophy applies to interior design. Incorporating artisanal elements into your home brings a sense of exclusivity and timeless elegance. Consider custom-crafted furniture, such as a hand-carved dining table or sculptural headboard, which act as both functional decor and works of art.

Collaborating with local artisans or boutique workshops is an excellent way to infuse your space with bespoke details. Hand-thrown ceramic vases, custom woven rugs, or hand-forged metal fixtures add a layer of narrative to your design. Even small touches, like replacing generic hardware with handmade door knobs or installing a backlit cristallo backsplash, elevate everyday elements into extraordinary features.

USE LUXE FABRICS AS STATEMENT ELEMENTS

In haute couture, the finest materials—silk, cashmere, and European linens—are the foundation of every creation. Bringing this approach to your interiors adds depth, texture, and a sense of indulgence. Imagine cashmere throws draped over a plush velvet sofa or a leather-upholstered ottoman nestled in a cozy nook. These fabrics, much like those seen on couture runways, bring richness and sophistication to a space.

Layering textiles amplifies their impact. Pair a jacquard throw with velvet cushions or add an alpaca pillow to a custom leather sectional. For a bold statement, consider unconventional uses of fabric, such as upholstered walls, which enhance acoustics and envelop the room in quiet luxury.

EXPERIENCE BLISS: WHERE TASTE MEETS WELL-BEING

Nestled in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, our flagship Simply Shroom cafe is a haven for those seeking a delicious approach to nourishment and rejuvenation. The cafe serves as the brand’s showcase and is used to represent the company’s identity, innovation, and quality. Taste our artisanal beverages and delectable treats infused with the wellness properties of mushrooms and herbs. Our offerings nourish not only the body, but also the mind and soul.

EXPERIMENT WITH COUTURE COLOR PALETTES

Haute couture often pushes boundaries with daring and unexpected color combinations, pairing vibrant jewel tones with timeless neutrals. Incorporating these palettes into your interiors creates a striking visual impact. Picture a deep burgundy sofa paired with an antique mirrored wall and accented with metallic finishes. These touches echo the embellishments of couture designs, enhancing the overall sense of drama and luxury. For those who appreciate the avant-garde, experiment with unconventional pairings. A dusty rose chaise lounge can be juxtaposed with forest green accents, or a bold burgundy rug can be offset with ochre decor. These daring choices infuse your home with the dynamism of a couture collection.

CHANNEL COUTURE THROUGH SCULPTURAL FURNITURE

In haute couture, the silhouette of a garment often doubles as a piece of wearable art. Similarly, sculptural furniture transforms functional items into statement pieces. A coffee table with organic, flowing curves or an armchair inspired by the structure of a pleated gown can serve as the centerpiece of a room. Material choices further enhance the couture-like appeal of these pieces. Opt for resin, glass, or polished metal, shaped into bold and unconventional forms. These materials echo the innovative fabrics and construction techniques seen in couture designs, bringing modernity and artistry to your interiors. Balance sculptural pieces with minimalist surroundings to ensure they command attention without overwhelming the space, much like a couture gown on a curated runway.

ACCESSORIZE WITH ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECES

Accessories are the finishing touch that complete both couture outfits and interiors. Curate your space with distinctive items like handblown glass vases, bespoke lighting fixtures, or commissioned art pieces. These elements act as the “jewelry” of your home, adding a layer of exclusivity and sophistication. For a direct nod to haute couture, incorporate fashion-inspired accents. Framed sketches from iconic designers or textiles from retired collections can serve as subtle tributes to the intersection of fashion and design. Smaller functional pieces, such as custom tableware or hand-painted plates, add personal touches that reinforce the ethos of craftsmanship and individuality.
