The Joys of Living in Parker A
s I take on my exciting new role as Parker Lifestyle's editor, I think of all the reasons that Parker is home. We have amazing people who contribute so much of themselves each day, and in the end, call our town home. I think about what attracted me to Parker and how I still feel a sense of calm each day when I arrive home and settle in with our family each evening. There is nothing like the comforts of home in Colorado. When I was able to realize my dream of home ownership, I felt such a sense of accomplishment and purpose as I immediately wanted to transform our house into our home. I feel a great importance and appreciation for all the things that surround our home and appreciate the collective comfort of loving where I live. As the seasons change and the weather warms, many of us will begin those pesky projects that we have been putting off all winter long. Whether it is cleaning and reorganizing the garage, yet again, or a large project around the home, I would like to remind you to think of Parker and our local businesses first. You might just realize something about your neighbor or business that you did not know previously. In this issue, we have the pleasure of highlighting some amazing local resources that showcase how great it is to be a part of this community. There are many wonderful places to visit and learn about the history that makes this town what it is today. We take a step back and explore The Schoolhouse renovation project and the artifacts that have been discovered. We also hear from Kyle Ash, owner of Aspen Falls Custom Design and Landscape, on how to protect your investment when starting any renovation project, as well as local Realtor® Chad Hines of Your Castle Real Estate who offers tips about listing your home. Each day that I meet more people in our community and absorb more of our town’s culture and history, I feel truly inspired. We want to continue to explore more resources and showcase the arts, culture and glorious resources that we are privileged to have right outside our doorsteps. We hope that you will find as must inspiration as we do every day and enjoy this issue as we spruce up our homes and enjoy this magnificent time of year. Remember to connect with us on FaceBook.com/ParkerLifestyle. In June, we will travel and showcase our great state. Stay tuned!

AT KOKO FITCLUB YOU NEVER HAVE TO GO IT ALONE. Come see the digital gym for yourself. Enjoy 30 days of individualized fitness and coaching for just $30. No risk. No obligation. Just life-changing results!
Jessica needed to get in shape for her wedding, but didn’t know where to start. Traditional gyms didn’t work for Jess -- she needed results! She came to Koko with the goal of sculpting her arms and tightening her waistline. Her FitCoach, Sarah, built a strength and cardio training and nutrition program to jumpstart weight loss, and coached her through short weekly workouts. In just 6 weeks, Jess lost 15 pounds, and hasn’t looked back. “I love watching Jessica’s transformation,” said Sarah. “She met her goals, lost weight, is eating healthier and feels happy about how she looks.” Her fiancé sent a note thanking Koko for helping Jess regain her confidence and energy levels.
“Turning 47, I have never been this physically fit in all my life - even before 3 children! Koko has been the easiest workout plan for me to stick with without getting bored, and it is by far the most efficient. The friendly and helpful Koko coaches are like family. On a recent trip to Mexico people were saying that my 17 year old daughter and I look like sisters on the beach - PRICELESS!” - Linda Weber

The exercises are challenging and workouts are never stale. Best of all, I am working out safely with perfect form. Thank you so much for bringing such intelligent training to our area! Looking forward to the next lanyard color!” - Scott Kreitz “I joined Koko FitClub just after signing up for Weight Watchers® Online. My goal was to lose 10 lbs. I was completely dedicated to working out 3 times a week and eating healthy. The best part, I am still able to enjoy my red wine! Within 2 months, I hit my goal weight. Fast forward 8 months and I’m still losing weight while gaining strength and getting toned. I am down 27lbs and have my figure from 25 years ago BACK!!! So, let’s talk dress size, I was a size 10, now I am a size 2. Honestly, I did not think it was possible but here I am! My husband, Mychael, has been on this journey with me and he is down 24lbs. Yep, that’s High School weight for him! We love Koko FitClub and feel like we have found the perfect workout for us to maintain a healthy lifestyle while feeling Fabulous!” - Connie Parker

RUETER-HESS RESERVOIR RECREATION MASTER PLAN After more than a year of public comment, the preferred option for the Rueter-Hess Reservoir Recreation Master Plan has been unveiled. Although it was not available for this magazine's deadline, it can be seen on the Parker Water and Sanitation District's website at PWSD.org. The master planning process began in November 2015 with an online survey that garnered nearly 4,000 responses. Based on the first round of survey responses, three master plan concepts were developed for further public review. In February 2016, the three concepts were shared at public open houses in Parker, Castle Rock and Lone Tree, which were attended by 300 area residents, and at a City of Castle Pines Council meeting. The concepts were available online, along with a second survey, which was ultimately completed by nearly 800 people. The landscape architecture firm, Wenk Associates, used the feedback and comments from the surveys and open houses to draft the preferred option. The goal of the master plan is to develop a range of recreational opportunities in and around the reservoir while safeguarding the quality

Treasures Among Us ARTICLE DENISE ERWIN PHOTOGRAPHY DENISE ERWIN PHOTOGRAPHY
“L
ife will be your treasure box filled with …" as the Nora Roberts quote begins.
Fast forward 100 years from now and consider what others could learn
about you by unearthing ordinary objects that some would coin as trash and others treasure. Ironically, this scenario is unfolding before our very eyes during the rehabilitation of The Schoolhouse in downtown Parker. Built in 1915, this historic landmark is being brought back to its former glory, made possible in part by a grant from Colorado History’s State Historic Fund. Owned by the Town of Parker and formerly called the Mainstreet Center, The Schoolhouse promises to be an even greater gem upon completion. From a K-12 school and a local church to a community and arts center, The Schoolhouse's colorful history will continue to be uncovered as the restoration project continues through 2017. Upon completion, the building will then provide additional community gathering spaces in downtown Parker’s Creative District. As crew members carefully work to maintain the aesthetics of the era with the use of modern building materials, they have uncovered many
great finds that paint a picture of the building's use throughout the years.
The Curtiss Candy Company, known today as Nestle, created the Baby Ruth and Butterfinger candy bars. This retro candy wrapper was discovered in the wall between two rooms on the garden level, which will become a new dance studio.

Parker Lifestyle | May 2016
The leaded crystal vessel was found at the base of the stairs to the garden level. The restoration crew believes that a container of this type may have been used in a church, possibly on the alter.
“We have been finding things behind and underneath,” says Paul Matosky of Wattle and Daub Contractors. Among the relics that have been discovered are a 1910 Patch Pocket, buckle-back from Stall & Dean, est. 1898 baseball catcher’s glove; a tin cup; a student’s daily reader; the word “Parker” in metal letters; old shoes; candy wrappers; a wood piece that was part of a music stand; a piece of a pot belly stove; a glass vase; erasers and small toys. So as this historical beacon rich in stories, community and culture is brought back to a time gone by, take a moment to pause and ask yourself: “What object would speak volumes about my life, my hopes or my dreams?" Would

The history of tin containers predates the 1900s. Tin containers ultimately gained a handle and were used as drinking vessels. The restoration crew believes that the tin cup was made in the early 1900s. It was found during the removal of the air vent.
This stately landmark stands at attention waiting to welcome those strolling along Parker's Mainstreet. The faรงade of the building boasts visions of grandeur, including restored woodwork on the windows.
The pork and beans empire we know as Van Camps produced this student daily reader book. This treasure was found with the catcher's glove and the tin cup, and belonged to Homer B. The book features two characters named Peter Van and Betty Camp. What object or treasure would you like to be found 100 years from now? Chad Hines of Your Castle Real Estate
Q & A WITH CHAD HINES ON SELLING YOUR HOME
C
olorado's real estate market continues to be a growing subject of conversation among area residents, rarely providing one true answer or a solution that fits all. Parker Lifestyle sat down with Chad Hines of Your Castle Real Estate to gain some insight as to what sellers should consider when thinking about listing their home. IS THERE AN IDEAL TIME OF YEAR TO LIST YOUR HOME?
A lot of people are making the transition into a new home during the summer months. Not only are people trying to get settled into new schools, but a lot of military re-locations happen around this time. These two factors have a lot to do with the activity we see during the summer months. However, don't be fooled by the hype; spring time is one of the most under appreciated times that a seller can list their home. During this time, there is still limited inventory from the winter (especially now!), and a well-staged and properly-priced home can draw a lot of interest, often bringing in multiple offers. WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS TO MAKE YOUR HOUSE STAND OUT?
Have your home clean, organized and ready to show. Some of the littlest things can make the biggest difference, such as lighting and organization. Remember what drew you to buy this home in the first place and make that feature stand out! WHAT ARE THE BEST IMPROVEMENTS TO SEE A RETURN ON YOUR INVESTMENT?
The biggest improvements that people are paying attention to right now are the kitchen, master bathroom, flooring, paint and main mechanical systems, such as the water heater and furnace. You’ll want an accurate Comparative Market Analysis on your home to 26

interpret its value and identify small projects that can increase its marketability. SHOULD I HAVE AN OPEN HOUSE?
Open houses can be successful if done properly. In this market, they may not be as effective as other avenues. Knowing when to do an open house and what to expect out this marketing tactic is a great conversation to have with an experienced Realtor®. HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT REAL ESTATE AGENT?
When you are choosing an agent that will fit your needs, it is important to find someone that you can communicate with effectively and easily. Do your research and read any reviews that are available about the person, so you know who you are dealing with. Are they a full-time Realtor®? Do they have any special designations that could make a difference to you (such as specializations in negotiation, a military background, buyer or sellers representative)? What is their track record in relation to list price and sold price? Are they there to help you through the whole process or are they a discount service that sticks a sign in your yard and hopes for the best? Remember not all real estate brokers are Realtors®. The best real estate broker will help you put together a plan to get you where you want to be in the time frame you want to be there. It is important to remember that listing your home is a process, and the process should include a representative that you trust and have a great rapport with. Communication and expectations should be open as the transition to your next home should also be carefully considered for what is available and where you want to live. Local’s Choice I love the look and feel of Surya throws and pillows. For a pop of color, a touch of texture or just a comfy element, you can't go wrong with these throws. Bonus - a portion of the proceeds goes to fight child labor in Third World countries.
The French Door Oven by GE Monogram is fab. Inspired by commercial kitchens, it is a one-handle pull with amazing cooking features. If you decide to pick up a pizza on the way home, pre-heat the oven from your phone - it is Wi-Fi ready.
Azure Furniture Co. is a really cool Denver company. They make beautiful things from beetle kill wood. Their dedication to sustainability and quality is first class. Their planks and cutting boards are works of art to use and display.
I am a big fan of Sherwin Williams. Their quality and dedicated research for paint is amazing. One of my "go-to" colors for trim inside and out is SW West Highland White. It's a classic clean warm white that works with so many colors.
It’s French, cast-iron and heirloom quality. Le-Creuset has been making these beauties since 1925. I love this color to add beauty and style to any kitchen.
For The Home
Lighting is crucial for design inside and out. Costco's outdoor lights are the best quality for the price I have found thus far. They look great, are durable and give the right glow.
