Happy Holidays
You are a champion. You have made it to the end of 2024. I don't know what this year held for you, but I declare a war cry of victory and favor. Victory for where you've been and favor for where you are going.
The holidays as well as the end of the year can bring a mix of emotions. Full schedules and holiday events may create less margin on your calendar, but I hope you cherish each moment. Cherish the moments at home and at work, at holiday parties and fundraising galas. I hope you see the mark of a beautiful season in your midst.

This month was a fun issue to create with our team. From behind the scenes with the Parker Arts, Culture and Events Center to the holiday cheer at Pine Lane Nursery, locating all the holiday hotspots for you foodies out there with Fiona Quiban as well as discovering the incredible work Rosie's Ranch is accomplishing one horse ride at a time, we hope you enjoy this issue.
While this season can be beautiful for some, it can be painful and lonely for others, especially those who have recently lost a loved one. In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of those in our community that need assistance or who are alone. My hope for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other, extending grace, empathy and love.
Always,

Oil on canvas over board, 16 x 20 in.
The Story Behind the Painting:
“The unique composition of this landscape is what first drew me into it. The scene as a whole, rather than any individual aspect, caught my attention. There were two trees on each side of the uncomplicated, simple structure, and strong shadows were moving across the landscape with an ever so slightly pinkish light. I liked the idea that this was a place where I could go and simply be myself without any pretension or pretext. As I was painting the magnificent countryside, I felt the inspiration was to encapsulate the idea of being in a place where there were no presumptions of any kind. It had to be simple, peaceful, inviting, and it needed to convey the assurance that everything would be okay as I made my approach.”

ROSIE'S RANCH IS A PLACE WHERE KIDS LEARN HOW TO ACHIEVE AND SUCCEED

“If they can come to a place and succeed and feel successful in life, chances are they’re gonna go out and succeed [even more]...”
“The thing is, I want Rosie’s Ranch to be a place where kids succeed… if they can come to a place and succeed and feel successful in life, chances are they’re gonna go out and succeed [even more]...” Mary Mosher-Stathes shares her passion for kids to feel successful and in control of their lives through her work at Rosie’s Ranch.
A teacher for 40 years, Mary opened Rosie’s Ranch with a mission to empower all children. She and her team provide lessons, parent talks, birthday parties and programs where kids with or without special needs can succeed and grow.
She says, “It’s so much more than just putting a child on a horse.” She describes the type of therapy Rosie’s Ranch provides. The kids learn how to take care of the horses both physically as well as discuss their emotional needs.
An example Mary provides is with their horse, Pepsi. She says, “Pepsi is a very kind horse, and she has a club foot. So, I ask the kids, how do you think Pepsi feels? And the kids will reply, she probably feels left out? We could probably give her some extra hay, maybe she needs some more alone time…” Mary explains, “They’re telling us what the horse needs, but it’s actually what they need.”
To celebrate the holidays, they put up a wreath on their barn and decorate with lights.
“We usually have a stall decorating party. We send out a message, ‘if you want to decorate Dallas’ stall or bring a special ornament or something, come on out!’ I send a recipe for making horse cookies, if they want to make horse cookies and bring them… and we have a weekend where everyone can just stop in…”
Heavily intertwined in the community, Rosie’s Ranch partners with local businesses like Fika Coffeehouse to service their guests which includes local schools, the fire department, first responders and even the Navy’s Chiefs program. They’re supported by the Department of Education and have special certifications to work with kids that have special considerations.
“Everything we do is all designed for children, everything is lower, we have accommodations/modifications everywhere, we have FM system, whiteboards,” she gestures to all the resources they’ve methodically provided.
Without a doubt their horses, Gabe, Hearts of Fire, Pepsi as well as their ponies, Dallas, Pachuco and Suzy are giving these kids the reins, and empowering them to be confident, feel powerful and take control of their lives.

COME DOWN TO HOLIDAY LANE FOR FESTIVE TREE SHOPPING

ARTICLE BY JULIE HOGLUND
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Experience Christmas tree shopping like never before at Parker’s Pine Lane Nursery! Soft lights cast a warm glow over rows of trees, scents of fresh-cut pine, and the aroma of hot cider and cocoa hang in the air. Sweet Christmas desserts and cookies fill tables, and festive holiday goods spill from shelves and displays in the quaint cottage market. It is a family and community affair you do not want to miss!
Owners Angie and Kurt Hughes, along with their staff, start preparing for the holidays early.
Nursery Manager, Craig Brewker, places orders in January to secure the highest quality Christmas trees from tree farms nationwide.
Dena Singh, Community Outreach and Marketing Director, describes the holiday prep: “We transition from a 100% garden center to a holiday shop and Christmas tree lot in November. We make it a huge event! We have treats and warm drinks, and we cut each tree and help people load them into their cars. It’s a fun day! Families come and take their Christmas photos in the middle of it all.”
Brewker describes their ‘white-glove’ tree service, “When you pick out a tree, we cut it to order. For example, if you want a little higher base to fit more presents under, we cut the boughs and give them to you. We go above and beyond! We know our trees may cost a little more, but people aren’t going to get the customer service or quality anywhere else.”
Santa makes a cameo appearance at the Holiday Open House on December 7th this year. The celebratory event, free to the community, includes live music, holiday shopping, treats and a variety of trees for sale.
Holiday workshops and events start in November, along with the opening of the tree lot the week of November 25th. It closes on December 22nd, if the trees don’t sell out earlier. They sold out last year!

May This Winter Be Full of Magic and Whimsy For You at the Parker Arts, Culture and Events Center
The Colors, The Lights, The Music

I had the opportunity to sit down with Laura Nell Borden, the front of house coordinator for Parker Arts, Culture and Events Center (PACE Center) as well as with Britni Minichino-Sikora, program coordinator, to talk about the arts, their holiday performances coming up as well as what we can look forward to in 2025.
A performer for 15 years prior to coming out to Colorado, Laura shares, “We want to have something for everybody… creating those experiences that people can come and enjoy [and] realize that art is a featured part of life.”
“I think the arts in their purest, most influential form not only take people away from their everyday life… but also plant a seed,” Laura reminisces on the importance of the arts. She says, “Art has the power to change people’s minds [and] make you see the world [in] a different way.”
Britni echoes Laura’s sentiment, “It creates conversation… that’s where I hope art never goes away.”
Laura and Britni look forward to the holiday performances for the energy and atmosphere they bring. Each year they decorate the lobby. “The last couple years Britni has taken over and there is a new aesthetic each year,” Laura highlights Britni’s artistic touch.
“I want people to feel that ‘welcome, homey’ feeling with our decor,” Britni says.
PACE also includes an advertisement for the winter musical. Laura chimes in, “This year is Mary Poppins! Our production team builds completely from scratch this beautiful set up that people can take pictures of throughout. They had one of their painters free hand Mary Poppins in the image. It’s spot on. It’s stunning.” People can stand in front and take pictures.
“The colors, the lights, music, everything,” Britni says. They describe the entire experience as contagious and magical.
“...the arts in their purest, most influential form not only take people away from their everyday life… but also plant a seed… make you see the world [in] a different way.”
will be performing in March. And Parker’s very own Fiction Brewing Company will be present that day. With every purchased ticket, guests will get a beer.
Laura is especially excited for the Rock of Ages summer musical in 2025.
You can tell that Britni and Laura truly enjoy what they do. Both started in the box office and their roles grew organically from there.
“It’s always evolving… They very much encourage us to restructure as needed, share tasks… We’re very much a team… It’s a very collaborative effort I would say, everybody’s always willing to pitch in,” Laura says. “We have a very dedicated volunteer force as well. We could not do what we do without them!”
Just a couple shows to note this year are the Denver Ballet Theater, joining PACE for the third year, along with The Daddies Christmas Canteen, playing the big band holiday music of Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey.
Britni also talks about how they’re always looking at possibilities to partner with and support local businesses in Parker. Coming to the Schoolhouse Theater for a more intimate show, Boxing Banjo, an Irish group,
Year round, PACE is very intentional in creating a safe space for people to come and experience the arts. Britni shares, “We want to be a staple in the community for sure… Allow something for everyone. So allow everyone to have the opportunity to come to our facility and enjoy all the amenities… [be] a resource for people and an outlet for people to come in and enjoy our free art gallery or dance classes, enjoy anything we have to offer.”

Making Spirits

JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING

“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”
As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.
Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.
One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.
Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.
These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just
about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.
“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”
We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.
To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.
The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.org
