LIFESTYLE LETTER
Hello February!
The month of February is here, bringing with it a little extra love and a reminder to cherish the relationships that make life so special. While Valentine's Day often gets the spotlight, February is also a perfect time to celebrate all the connections that fill our lives with meaning— friends, family, and our wonderful community.
In this issue of Porter City Lifestyle, we’re embracing the spirit of connection in all its forms. You’ll find stories of local couples sharing their journeys, ideas for making heartfelt memories, and creative ways to show appreciation for the people you hold dear. Whether it’s a thoughtful gesture, a shared meal, or simply spending time together, love is found in the moments we create.
As we settle into the rhythm of the year, let’s take a moment to appreciate the small joys that February brings: crisp mornings, cozy evenings, and the warmth of connection. It’s a chance to slow down, reflect, and focus on what truly matters.
Thank you for being part of our Porter City Lifestyle family. Together, let’s make this month one of love, care, and community.
XOXO!

A Hometown Heart for Real Estate
Paige Joslin Brings Small-Town Values to Big Dreams in Real Estate
For Paige Joslin, Porter/New Caney isn’t just where she grew up—it’s where her heart belongs. Some of her fondest memories include playing little league basketball, cheering on her older sisters at New Caney Eagle basketball games, and experiencing the joy of the first-ever Fourth of July Fest. “It brought everyone together in such an exciting and meaningful way,” Paige shares.
Growing up in this close-knit community taught Paige the value of hard work, connection, and service. “This town’s charm and resilience shaped who I am,” she reflects. “Watching neighbors support one another during tough times inspired me to prioritize kindness in all that I do.” For Paige, family and faith are at the core of her story. Her grandparents instilled in her parents a steadfast belief in keeping Jesus at the center of their lives, a value that has guided Paige throughout her journey. Her father’s role in building Joslin Construction with her grandfather sparked her fascination with development and set her on the path to real estate.

to the area. “This is where my roots are,” she says. “I’ve watched families thrive and businesses grow here, and I wanted to contribute to that.” Through her work, Paige helps others find not just homes, but a sense of belonging.
“What I love most about this community is its spirit,” Paige says with a smile. “It’s a blend of small-town charm and exciting potential. Being able to help families establish their roots here while supporting local growth is incredibly fulfilling.” For Paige, real estate is more than a career—it’s her way of giving back to the hometown that shaped her and the community she loves.

HONORING COMMISSIONER ED RINEHART’S LEGACY
CARRYING THE TORCH
Commissioner Ed Rinehart was a man whose life revolved around service, community, and an unwavering commitment to improving East Montgomery County. His influence has left a permanent mark on the lives of so many, including Commissioner Matt Gray, who reflects on Ed’s lasting impact as a leader, mentor, and friend.
Park to supporting Meals on Wheels and youth programs, Commissioner Rinehart's efforts ensured the well-being of every generation. “He started many traditions,” says current Commissioner Gray. “His ability to connect with people and provide for those in need set a standard we strive to uphold daily.”
“ED’S PERSONALITY WAS AS BIG AS THE COUNTY. HE TRULY CARED ABOUT THE PEOPLE HERE.”
Commissioner Gray recalls watching his stepdad work as a road foreman under Commissioner Rinehart. Inspired by Ed’s work ethic and passion for infrastructure, young Matt joined the team to learn firsthand how leadership and dedication could transform a community. "Ed’s personality was as big as the county," Matt shares. "He truly cared about the people here, and his hearty laugh was unforgettable." Ed’s compassion shone brightest in his care for seniors and youth. From creating the senior center at Bull Sallas
Commissioner Rinehart's leadership philosophy—managing resources wisely, making tough decisions, and staying directly involved—continues to inspire Commissioner Gray's approach as commissioner. Ed’s hands-on style and commitment to replacing clay and gravel roads with blacktop for Precinct 4 are accomplishments Matt now works to maintain and expand. Ed’s influence extended beyond infrastructure; he shaped the way public service is perceived in EMC. "He set the bar high for elected officials, demonstrating the

responsibility and privilege of serving a community," Matt reflects.
Through laughter, hard work, and genuine care, Ed Rinehart made EMC a better place to live. "He cared deeply about this community because it was his home," Commissioner Gray reflects. "As I continue his work, I hope to honor his legacy by ensuring progress, connection, and opportunity for all who live here."
Looking to the future, Commissioner Gray adds, “I want my legacy to be focused on my regional drainage and mobility improvement. Growing up here, my visions align with Commissioner Rinehart's viewpoints, and I'm trying to continue those programs and policies he started that are so valuable—like the senior center and being involved with the youth. For example, the fair association and the improvement and growth of new and old community parks where our children will make memories growing up here.”
Commissioner Ed Rinehart’s legacy is one of compassion, dedication, and transformative leadership. His memory serves as a guide to what it means to lead with heart and vision, and Commissioner Matt Gray is determined to carry that torch forward.

Building A Legacy, Dancing Through Life
ARTICLE BY AMBER DOBYNS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SPORTCAST MEDIA
“Do what you love and love what you do,” is the heartbeat of her teaching.
For Becky Crackel, dance is more than choreography— it’s a lifelong passion turned into a fulfilling career. Over the past 35 years, she has dedicated herself to teaching dance, cultivating talent, and building a legacy her students can proudly carry forward.
No step-ball-change could hold Mrs. Crackel back when the phone rang, calling her back home to her alma mater, New Caney High School, where she has proudly served as NCHS Dance Educator and Director for the past 31 years. Watching her Bluebonnets perform routines like “The Time Warp” during Friday night halftime shows, she reflects on her time as a student leader in the same program. She worked her way up the ranks, serving as First Lieutenant her junior year and Colonel her senior year. Her love for dance is rooted deeply in the heart of Texas, and that passion shines in every aspect of her work.
During her tenure, Mrs. Crackel has elevated the Bluebonnets into an award-winning program. As Department Chair for Fine Arts, she has been honored with the Curtain Call Outstanding Director Award, Teacher of the Month, TDEA Distinguished Service Award, and a nomination for Teacher of the Year. Despite these accolades, her greatest pride comes from the impact she has on her students.
Over their 53-year history, the Bluebonnets have made the world their stage. Behind each performance is a tale of commitment, passion, and teamwork. During her tenure at NCHS, Mrs. Crackel has poured her blood, sweat, and tears into building a program that piques students’ interest in joining the school’s dance programs. As the school grew, the dance teams
expanded as well, creating challenges with limited practice space. Mrs. Crackel prayed and got to work, serving on a bond committee to help provide an adequate space for practice. In 2014, Mrs. Crackel sashayed across the new dance gym during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, proud to now have the perfect place for her students to dance.
As the state flower blooms, so do the NCHS Bluebonnets and Breakdancers with hundreds of combined accolades and awards from solo and team performances over the years, continuing their legacy of blending tradition with new milestones. Outside of the dance gym, and beyond the football field, the dancers travel to compete, as well as perform at events such as Super Bowl XXXVIII Pre-game with Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, and Aerosmith, halftime for the Houston Rockets, and even Super Bowl LI Halftime with Lady Gaga.
Her personal philosophy, “Do what you love and love what you do,” is the heartbeat of her teaching. Beyond the trophies and titles, her greatest joy comes from hearing how her mentorship has shaped her students’ lives. Many have joined college dance teams, pursued professional careers, or become educators themselves. For Mrs. Crackel, their success as respectful, productive adults is her ultimate reward.
Although the moves may change over the years, the bonds created among the team remain unbreakable as they dance through time together. Through dedication and passion, Mrs. Crackel continues to leave an unforgettable mark on New Caney High School. Her legacy will be one of inspiration, excellence, and unwavering love for the art of dance.
Behind each performance is a tale of commitment, passion, teamwork, and unwavering dedication to excellence. “ ”
POWER COUPLE, Building Success Together
Ashley and Jason’s Inspiring Journey: The Power of Loyalty, Love, and Hard Work
ARTICLE BY STACY LEACH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY FIREHEART PHOTOGRAPHY
Power comes from strength, but what does that mean? Strength can come from working out, relationships, or even faith. For Ashley and Jason Smith, owners of Spartan Roof Construction in Porter, Texas, their journey begins with the strength of their relationship. The couple met online after both had faced challenges in life and love. “We didn’t feel like we were doing a good job picking on our own,” Ashley laughs. Their first date at the gym revealed an instant connection, rooted in their shared love for fitness, family, and God. From that moment, they became inseparable.
Fitness has always been a cornerstone of their bond. Early in their relationship, they competed as bodybuilders, training together and following disciplined, high-protein diets. “We’ve shifted from competition to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but we still train hard,” Jason says. Their gym sessions are a mix of fun and dedication, embodying the teamwork they bring to every aspect of their lives. “Fitness isn’t just a hobby; it keeps us sharp and strong for the job. Climbing roofs isn’t for the faint of heart!”
Their shared strength became the foundation of Spartan Roof Construction. Jason’s experience working for another roofing company with poor ethics inspired them to create their own business, one anchored in integrity and faith. “We wanted to treat our money as God’s blessing and use it to help others,” Ashley says.
Balancing work and marriage hasn’t always been easy, but they’ve learned to keep the two separate. “You can’t take work stress out on each other,” Ashley notes. “Our loyalty and respect keep us solid.” Their sons, now grown, were part of the business from day one, handing out fliers and learning the value of hard work. As they continue serving the Kingwood, Humble, and Porter communities, their dream remains simple: steady growth and a lasting legacy. For Ashley and Jason, power truly comes from their strength built together—in the gym, in business, and in faith.

Make
From-Scratch
Pasta
what you need
Yield: 1 pound
2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 4 large eggs
what you do
1. Mound the flour in the center of a work surface with a well in the middle. Crack the eggs into the well and beat with a fork until smooth, then work flour into eggs with the fork. Use a bench scraper to work in the rest of the flour a little at a time. When the flour is incorporated, form the dough with your hands into a rounded mass for kneading. Lightly dust your workspace with flour and knead dough about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover dough with a bowl or plastic wrap and rest 1 1/2 hours, or chill overnight.
2. To roll by hand, flour a clean work surface. Vigorously roll dough to a very thin circle and roll constantly with even pressure as it stretches for several minutes until as thin as possible, almost translucent.
3. To cut by hand, lightly fold sheets one at a time into thirds and cut to desired thickness. Recipe from MarthaStewart.com .
