A Season of Giving
Hi, I’m Julie. I’m beyond excited to welcome you to the fourth issue of Rogers City Lifestyle–and my first as Managing Editor! As I write this, I can’t help but reflect on how grateful I am to be part of this incredible community, especially as we enter my favorite time of year: the holiday season.
There’s something truly magical about this time of year, right? It’s a season that brings out the best in all of us–the giving spirit, the sense of togeth erness and the joy that seems to sparkle in the air.
Since moving back to the area in 2021, one of my favorite memories was during a holiday season a few years ago. We were new to the neighborhood, and one cold December night, a neighbor I’d never met before knocked on my door with a plate of homemade cookies. It was such a small gesture, but it made me feel instantly welcomed. That act of kindness showed me firsthand the heart of this community. It’s moments like these that make Rogers such a special place to call home.
That spirit of giving is something I’ve always admired, not just during the holidays but all year long. Whether it’s through local businesses supporting charities, families coming together to help those in need, or neighbors simply looking out for one another, this community has a heart that’s big, warm and always ready to give.
But during the holidays, it shines even brighter. And that’s what makes this issue so special. We’ve worked hard to capture that spirit through the stories we share with you this month. From local organizations giving back to festive events that bring us closer together, I hope you’ll feel the warmth and inspiration that poured into these pages.
Thank you for letting us be part of your holiday season. I truly hope you love reading these articles as much as we enjoyed putting them together.
Wishing you all a joyful December filled with love, laughter and the spirit of giving.
Warmly,
JULIE CRAIG, MANAGING EDITOR @ROGERSCITYLIFESTYLE

Deep Clean vs. Maintenance Clean: What’s the Difference?
The distinction between deep cleaning and maintenance cleaning often comes down to detail. Deep cleaning usually involves a thorough approach, including hand-washing and scrubbing areas like baseboards, fans, fixtures, doors and light switches. On the other hand, maintenance cleaning is quicker, using dusters to tidy the same areas without as much intensive effort. Together, they make it easy to enjoy a consistently clean and inviting space!

The Joy of Giving
RECAPTURING HOLIDAY JOY THROUGH THE SPIRIT OF GIVING, ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN IN NEED
ARTICLE BY COLE REYNOLDS PHOTOGRAPHY BY PROJECT ZERO
“We want to spoil the mess out of them. We want to show a watching world how these kids deserve to be treated.”
— KANDACE GERBER, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND DEVELOPMENT FOR PROJECT ZERO
As a child, there is no feeling of joy so poignant as the feeling of opening a gift on Christmas morning. As we grow older, we lose some of that excitement and wonder, and as adults, the purest way to recapture that feeling is not by receiving presents but by giving. Many children deserve that hope and joy this holiday season, especially kids in foster care. To them, a gift is not just the excitement of a new toy; it also provides hope that one day they can find a place where they belong.
Project Zero is a nonprofit organization that supports foster care children with the ultimate goal of finding a forever family for every child who is waiting. Since Project Zero began its work, the number of kids in foster care has fallen from over 700 to around 250. Every year, Project Zero hosts an angel tree event called Candyland Christmas, where prospective adoptive families and those looking to help can donate items from a child’s wish list to make their Christmas
a special and memorable occasion. “We want to spoil the mess out of them,” explains Kandace Gerber, Director of Marketing and Development for Project Zero. “We want to show a watching world how these kids deserve to be treated.”
This angel tree event, like so many others that happen throughout the United States every year, is one of the purest ways to give hope and love to those in need. Christmas is a time to come together and spread the joy that we all need in our lives, and donating to those in need is one of the noblest ways to contribute.
This Christmas, consider giving back, whether through your church, neighborhood community, or a nonprofit organization like Project Zero. If you want to recapture that joy you felt as a child on Christmas morning, give that feeling to others, and you will find that their excitement and happiness will be yours. After all, isn’t that what the holiday season is all about?

ORNAMENT CLUSTERS
SUPPLIES
• 22 gauge wire
• Ornaments of at least 3 varying shades and sizes
• Wire snips
STEP 1
Cut desired length of wire for a cluster, about 24”
STEP 2
Add an ornament about 4” from one end of the wire and twist the wire around the top of the ornament to provide a base for your cluster. Twist about 5 times. You should still have about 4” of wire at the end; you will need it to tie onto your garland, tree, or wreath.
STEP 3
Continue adding ornaments to the wire, alternating sizes and colors until you have 4-6” of wire remaining.
STEP 4
Twist the remaining wire around the top of your final ornament 5 times to secure all of your ornaments in place. Making sure to leave at least 4” of wire in place at the end in order to tie onto garland, tree, or wreath.
STEP 5
Use the ends of the wire to attach to your holiday item of choice!!
Pro tip: Keep your clusters to the 24” length to keep from getting too heavy and/or having ornaments pop off. Ornaments will pop off at times, but they will still look gorgeous and you can always glue the ornament back onto to the top. Simple, gorgeous, and impactful!

The Gift of Sport
Ozark United FC: Created by Northwest Arkansas, for Northwest Arkansas
Those lucky to call Northwest Arkansas home know it’s a unique and diverse community. Many residents who live here aren’t from here. A significant portion of Northwest Arkansas’s population is made up of transplants from across the country and beyond. This becomes especially evident on sports weekends when you’ll likely see fans proudly wearing their favorite out-of-town team’s swag.
Even with all that NWA has to offer, those relocating from larger cities often feel a void when it comes to professional sports. The lack of access to pro sports was evident to Chris Martinovic, who moved his family here from the Northeast, where professional sports teams abound. It’s not surprising, then, that he was instrumental in bringing the first professional soccer team to the Natural State.
“Nothing unites a community quite like a sports team,” Martinovic says. “Sharing a love for a team has this amazing ability to unify a region. And that’s what we’re hoping will happen here with Ozark United.”
When the United Soccer League (USL) announced in 2023 that it would bring a team to Northwest Arkansas, Martinovic and co-founder Warren Smith went to work engaging with the community.
“We tried to take ourselves out of the process as much as possible,” says Martinovic. “It’s not our team. We wanted folks from the community to get involved from the very beginning to build this with them.”
Over the past year, they’ve conducted surveys and held focus groups throughout the region, covering all demographics and seeking feedback from those who live here. What did they want from the team? What did they want in a stadium? What made them proud to live in Northwest Arkansas? They assembled a group of community investors—people from here who wanted to be a part of building this team from its foundation. Their highest priority was to create a team that represented the diverse group of people who live here. From the multi-purpose stadium to the team’s name and branding, Ozark United FC has the fingerprints of NWA residents all over it.
Having a USL team in the community also impacts youth soccer programs and opens up the possibility of adding a women’s professional team.
“When I started this venture, I wasn’t sure this was something the community would get behind,” Martinovic says. “But it’s been made so clear that the community not only wants it, but they need it, and they deserve it. It’s a big lift to get this off the ground. It’s a community project. It truly takes a village.”
Making Spirits
JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING
“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”
As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.
Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.
One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.
Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.
These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just
about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.
“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”
We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.
To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.
The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.com
