Vocational Training: It’s Not Shop Class Anymore!

In today’s evolving job market, vocational training is a compelling option for high school students. Unlike traditional college paths, these programs equip students with specific, in-demand skills that lead directly to employment.

Roswell Rotary is excited to build a playhouse with Roswell High School students, which will be placed at the Drake House.

RRC President Nancy Alterman emphasizes, “By learning trades early, students can explore rewarding careers that don’t require a four-year degree. Vocational education provides practical skills, hands-on experience, and confidence for real-world success.”

Ken Briggs Retired Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning adds, “Everyone has unique strengths—whether in STEM, the arts, or mechanics. Trades build confidence, offer good wages, and provide fulfilling careers. Students should be proactive in finding their passion.”

Vocational training is cost-effective, enables faster workforce entry, boasts high job placement rates (92% of apprentices retain employment with an average $72K salary), and meets the demand for skilled labor. In 2025, top fields include HVAC, electrical work, industrial machinery, and plumbing.

Joe Mazzeo, owner of Expert Plumbing Service , highlights the benefits: “Being your own boss, job security, strong customer relationships, and a recession-proof career. People will always need plumbing, wiring, and HVAC repairs.”

Roswell Rotary Club proudly supports Roswell High School’s vocational program. Special thanks to Darrell Bartlett, Ken Briggs, and donors Lummus Supply Co. (lumber), Choate Construction (design), and W.S. Nielson (skylights).

Investing in What Matters Most

Investment by definition is the act of devoting time, effort, energy or finances to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result. We can invest in a lot of things such as our community, our relationships, our finances, and our health with the hope that the effort will have a positive impact. We can invest in our community by supporting our local businesses, schools and local organizations. We can serve  the community through volunteerism and investment in future generations. On a larger scale, we can participate in public surveys and stay educated and involved with future city planning. Investing in our finances helps create wealth, meets longterm financial goals and secures our retirement. On a personal level, we can invest in our families and enrich relationships by giving time and effort to the people in our lives that mean the most to us. This type of investment has the most meaningful impact to not only ourselves but to the people closest to us.

While investing in ourselves, relationships, community and finances can look very different from person to person, the effort we put into these areas of our lives are done with the common goal of having a positive impact that yields results. In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the ways that we can invest in our community, our finances and with those that we love.

Check out how Roswell honors students, entrepreneurs of all ages and backgrounds, its history and above all public safety as you read some of this month's feature stories. There also are people sharing amazing ways to give back and also protect your own finances in creative ways. I am proud of Roswell and all the many ways we honor and support one another!

We hope you will enjoy this issue and remember supporting our local businesses is the best way to invest in Roswell. See you around town soon as we also celebrate our first Alive at Five, April 17th!

Miracles, Angels, and Messages:

Jonathan Powell Crooks’ Journey from “Patient Zero”

Writing a book had always been a “someday” goal for Jonathan Powell Crooks of Roswell. It was a dream he’d imagined might focus on history or politics. But life had other plans. When Jonathan survived a near-death battle with the Delta variant of COVID-19 in 2021, “someday” became “now,” and his book, Miracles, Angels, and Messages: Patient Zero, was born.

“It’s a life-and-death struggle book,” Jonathan explained. “A personal journey with profound implications—not just for myself, but potentially for all, if laid out properly.”

His battle began with something small— just a cough. But within days, he was in the hospital with oxygen levels at a dangerous 57%. Doctors placed him on a ventilator, and he spent the next 30 days in a coma while his family faced heartbreaking decisions, uncertain if he would survive. When he finally woke up, he had lost 50 pounds, 94% of his strength, and had to relearn how to walk, eat, and even speak. “It was the hardest fight of my life,” he admitted. “But I made it back—step by step, breath by breath.”

The idea to write a book didn't come right away. As Jonathan worked to regain his strength and re-enter the world, people kept encouraging him to share his story. Looking frail—“death warmed over, if you will”—he heard the same message over and over: You need to write this down. You need to share your story. What began as a way to heal himself turned into something more powerful.

The book is divided into two parts. “The first two-thirds are what I call ‘The How,’” Jonathan said. “It’s all the medical stuff—contracting the disease, the coma, what my family and friends endured, and my recovery.” He opens by sharing who he is, giving readers the context needed to fully understand the depth of his story.

The final third, though, is where things get even more meaningful. “It’s ‘The Why,’” he added. “Why I believe I’m still here when so many who were as sick as I was didn’t survive. Yes, there’s a bit of survivor’s guilt, but it also pushes me to share my story with greater determination.”

Jonathan with his family: Gary Crooks, Jonathan Henry Lockstedt, Vivian Crooks & Kristine Crooks Lockstedt

Jonathan doesn’t just want readers to see this as a survival story or a religious book. It’s a manual for self-realization and rediscovery. “What I hope people will see is themselves in my journey. I want them to recognize their own friends and family in mine, to realize that what I experienced, they have too—in their own way.”

The book is also a call to action. Jonathan challenges readers to slow down, reflect, and notice the miracles, angels, and messages in their own lives. “But be forewarned,” he said. “It takes a lot of work. I can lead them down a path, but I can’t do the work for them. The only promise I can make is that if they’re willing, the end is nothing short of miraculous.”

Jonathan’s book, Miracles, Angels, and Messages: Patient Zero, is available at miraclesangelsandmessages.com, on Amazon, or by emailing him at Jonathan@miraclesangelsandmessages.com.

Capitalizing on Gold's Record Highs

Precious metals have been a form of exchange for thousands of years. Hunter Rhodes, owner of Atlanta Gold & Coin Buyers and his team recognize that investors continue to have interest in precious metals and coins and they have the knowledge, skill and experience to help you make informed decisions on your growing commodities portfolio.

STRATEGIC COMMODITIES

INVESTMENTS MAKE FOR A HEALTHY PORTFOLIO

“WE HAVE A WIDE ASSORTMENT OF GOLD, SILVER, PLATINUM AND PALLADIUM COINS, BARS AND ROUNDS IN STOCK, AS WELL AS COLLECTIBLE, RARE OR NUMISMATIC COINS AND VARIOUS COIN SETS.”

WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR MOTIVATION TO OPEN A GOLD AND COIN BUYING AND SELLING INSTITUTION AND WHAT EDUCATION DID YOU PROCURE IN ORDER TO BECOME AN EXPERT IN THE FIELD?

Considering I had been a collector and investor for years, it was clear in my mind that this was the best way to help secure my financial future as well as the financial future of our customers. Precious metals, in my opinion, are a neglected asset class that have enormous upside potential. My background is in Risk Management and Insurance and I've always been interested in finance and economics, which parlays well with the coin and bullion industry.

WHY INVEST IN GOLD, SILVER OR COINS? EXPLAIN WHY INVESTING IN THIS SEGMENT OF ASSETS CAN BE SO LUCRATIVE?

Gold, silver, platinum and palladium are one of the few asset classes that don’t have counterparty risk. Most folks don’t realize how important this is, but most traditional investments or policies include counterparty risk. When you physically hold precious metals, you don’t have to worry about another party making good on their promises.

Another important consideration is that gold and silver historically have had a low correlation to other asset classes. The more high performing low correlated assets you have in a portfolio, the higher your expected returns.

Lastly, gold and silver have performed well as asset classes over a longer period of time. At last check, gold has outperformed the stock market since 2000. That’s quite an accomplishment.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROCESS FOR BUYING AND SELLING GOLD, SILVER OR COINS? WHAT DO CLIENTS NEED TO KNOW AND WHAT CAN THEY EXPECT FROM ENTERING INTO A RELATIONSHIP WITH ATLANTA GOLD AND COIN BUYERS?

Unlike most coin dealers in the industry, we meet with our customers by appointment in a safe, comfortable and friendly environment. This allows us to provide our customers with our undivided attention so that we have sufficient time to answer all their questions, address their concerns, and walk them through the process of buying or selling gold and silver coins or bullion.

Many of our customers have been with us since the inception of our company and are more friends than they are customers. These folks will oftentimes want to pick our brains on matters, which we’re happy to accommodate free of charge for our long term and loyal customers.

We cut through all the misinformation online, make sure that they’re well-informed to make the best decision possible, and always endeavor to provide the leading rates in the industry, whether buying or selling. We realize that we can charge more when selling or offer less when buying, but we would prefer to focus on repeat business and the rest will take care of itself.

We just celebrated our first 15 years of business and are only getting started. We’re excited for what the future holds and will continue to look for opportunities to provide our customers with the resources they need to make sound decisions.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR INVENTORY. IF A NEW CLIENT IS INTERESTED IN BUYING AS AN INVESTMENT, HOW DO YOU SUGGEST THEY PROCEED IN ORDER TO START A PRECIOUS METALS PORTFOLIO?

We have a wide assortment of gold, silver, platinum and palladium coins, bars and rounds in stock, as well as collectible, rare or numismatic coins and various coin sets.  Once we have a good idea of the reason for investing in precious metals, we can then begin suggesting some items that may be a good fit for what they’re trying to accomplish. Considering that everyone has different goals and risk tolerances, there’s not a one-size fits all approach. Only when you have the full picture, can you help a customer reach their goals.

WHAT OPTIONS DOES A CLIENT HAVE IN ORDER TO GET AN APPRAISAL OF THEIR ITEM?

Folks have different reasons for wanting or needing an appraisal, so we do our best to try and accommodate all our customers. In many cases, prospective customers just want to get an idea if a few of their coins have any value. As a courtesy to our clients, we’re happy to provide them with a quick assessment free of charge. We also regularly provide appraisals for probate, estate and insurance purposes.

WHAT ARE YOU AND YOUR PARTNERS FORECASTING FOR THE FUTURE AS IT PERTAINS TO PRECIOUS METALS? DO YOU SEE RARE METALS INCREASING IN VALUE?

While we’re hesitant to provide specific forecasts, we believe that gold and silver, and for that matter, platinum and palladium will be substantially higher over the next few years. If you’re a long-term investor, you should do quite well over the next few years by investing in precious metals, even considering the recent run up in prices.

DO YOU HAVE PLANS FOR THE EXPANSION AND GROWTH OF ATLANTA GOLD AND COIN BUYERS?

We’re looking to automate some procedures and should launch our first official online store in the near future. We have also implemented a new inventory management system and plan on ramping up our educational resources, including providing more helpful and relevant content, and updating some of the older resources that we haven’t looked at in some time. Additionally, the rare coin guide we launched about a decade ago has been one of our most viewed resources, but doesn’t include gold coins, which we realize would be a valuable tool.

Ultimately, we’re here to serve our customers, so we’ll continue to look for opportunities to meet and exceed the requests of our clients. If this involves adding additional staff, moving or adding locations or meeting these requests through technology, we’re happy to accommodate.

FROM ALLOWANCE TO Award- Winning SALSA

TYLER

SULLIVAN’S RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

Sully’s Salsa now features two award-winning flavors: the mild “My Little Brother Can Eat It” and the spicy “Mom Says It’s Too Hot.” The mild salsa even took home the title of Best Salsa in Georgia at the Flavors of Georgia competition, hosted by the University of Georgia, and has placed second in national contests twice.

When asked what advice he’d give to other aspiring young entrepreneurs, Tyler’s message was simple: “You should never give up. It doesn’t come without hard times and sacrifices, but if you stay motivated, you’ll be successful.”

At just 10 years old, Tyler Sullivan of Roswell wasn’t thinking about launching a business—he was just trying to pay off a $200 debt to his parents. During the COVID lockdowns, like many kids, Tyler spent more time playing video games. One accidental (on purpose) online purchase later, and his parents weren’t too thrilled. With all his electronics taken away until he paid them back, Tyler quickly realized that household chores weren’t going to cut it.

“I had barely made $10 after a week of chores,” Tyler recalled. “So I knew I needed to do something different.”

That turned out to be Sully's Slammin Fresh Salsa.

“My dad had a salsa recipe that everyone loved, so I tweaked it to make it my own, and started selling it door to door in the neighborhood,” said Tyler. “It became so popular, I could barely keep up with the demand.”

Next, he moved to a commercial kitchen, then started selling at farmers markets. The fresh, homemade taste of Sully’s Salsa quickly made it a crowd favorite. Encouraged by customers, Tyler began entering food competitions—and winning.

“This is an adventure I never dreamed would happen,” admitted Tyler. “I’ve learned so many life lessons, gained business experience, and met amazing people. Plus, I’m getting a head start on my education since I want to be a business major in college.”

His parents couldn’t be more impressed. “We could not be more proud of Tyler and the business he has created,” gushed Kristen and Benjamin Sullivan. “Add in the fact that the salsa is so tasty, and it’s an experience we feel so blessed to be a part of. We can only imagine where Tyler and Sully’s Salsa will go from here.”

Being a teenage entrepreneur means the future is wide open. Tyler is expanding into more retail stores, aiming for 20+ by year’s end, and growing his online presence. With school as his priority, he balances business with learning. This summer, he’ll be at local farmers market, saving for a car—stop by!

“Years ago, if you told me I would have created the one of the best-tasting salsas in the country, I would never have believed you, because the only thing I can cook is ramen,” Tyler joked. “But somehow, I did it.”

With a recipe for success that includes hard work, passion, and just the right amount of spice, Tyler Sullivan’s salsa story is just getting started. Visit sullyssalsa.com to order online, or find it at local farmers markets and stores around the area.

HEALING THROUGH GOLF:

HOW SMGA SUPPORTS VETERANS ON AND OFF THE GREEN

For some, golf is a pastime. But for the veterans of the Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA), it’s a lifeline—one swing at a time. Since 2006, SMGA has been dedicated to rehabilitating post-9/11 combat-wounded veterans, using the therapeutic power of golf to help them navigate the challenges of transitioning to civilian life.

“SMGA provides access to courses, equipment, expert instruction, and, most importantly, a community of support,” explained Chapter Director Ramiro Headges. “Whether facing the visible scars of war or the unseen struggles of PTSD and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), veterans discover healing, camaraderie, and a renewed sense of purpose.”

One of those servicemembers is Anthony Cunningham, a U.S. Army veteran who served for over 20 years, completing two tours in Afghanistan. With two Bronze Stars and a Meritorious Service Medal to his name, Cunningham’s service was marked by dedication and excellence. However, like many veterans, the transition to civilian life presented new challenges.

“In 2017, my life took a dramatic turn when I suffered injuries that required two major reconstructive surgeries on both of my legs,” Cunningham shared. “Every day was a battle, filled with pain, small victories, and relentless determination. That’s when I was introduced to adaptive golf—and everything changed.”

For him, SMGA wasn’t just about learning the game—it was about finding a renewed sense of mission. “Transitioning from the structured life of the Army to civilian life can be challenging, and SMGA offered a way to stay connected with fellow veterans who understand that journey. It also created an opportunity to give back, mentor, and help other veterans heal.”

SMGA offers several ways to support its mission.

“Donations, volunteering, sponsoring, or even just spreading the word can make a tangible impact in the lives of these heroes,” urged Headges. The upcoming golf tournament on June 30 at the Country Club of Roswell is a great way to get involved and support the cause.

"Golf has become more than just a game to me—it’s a lifeline."

As Cunningham puts it, “Golf has become more than just a game to me—it’s a lifeline. It keeps me active, challenges me both physically and mentally, and connects me with an incredible community of players who inspire and support one another.”

As SMGA reminds us, every contribution—big or small—helps veterans take their next swing toward healing. Because sometimes, the best way to move forward is one swing at a time.

Investing in Giving Back with Princess Style

BRINGING JOY TO YOUNG AND OLD WITH HER CAST OF CHARACTERS

The pandemic caused us all to flounder in many ways. We went from independent lives of work and school, to abruptly working and schooling at home. It was a lot to handle in a short period of time. Many had to pivot or even reinvent themselves completely. For one Roswell native, this became the perfect opportunity for her to dive into her passion. Catherine Smith decided to immerse herself in something that not only brought her purpose, but complete joy. By taking her princess business full-time, she was able to not only see success but absolutely flourish in something that was very near and dear to her heart, helping people and making them happy.

WAS THERE AN EVENT THAT LED YOU TO THE IDEA OF BECOMING A REAL LIFE PRINCESS FOR YOUNG AND OLD TO ENJOY?

I always loved dressing up for my pre-K students as Anna!! It is when the movie first came out so of course they loved it because I looked just like her! But, then when the pandemic happened I had to go completely virtual!  That is when I brought in my new characters like Elsa, Ariel, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Barbie! I honestly just love making people smile young to old! Getting to virtually call all 50 states and 45 different countries has been an amazing experience! I love being able to Facetime the kids who are suffering from cancer or other diseases, because I could no longer go into hospitals due to COVID. Just being able to put a smile on their face even if it’s just for ten minutes means the world to me, because it looks like they aren’t in pain. It brings so much joy to my heart to make them smile!

WHAT CAST OF CHARACTERS DO YOU PORTRAY AT YOUR EVENTS? WHAT IS YOUR MOST POPULAR AND WHAT TYPE OF EVENTS DO YOU PROVIDE FOR YOUR CLIENTS?

I do Anna, Elsa, Ariel, Cinderella, Barbie, Cruella and my own creation Sparkelina! I schedule all types of events like readings at school, Disney and donut day at local breakfast restaurants, pancakes with a princess or even pizza with a princess. I love what I do!

YOU HAVE RECENTLY PUBLISHED A BOOK INSPIRED BY YOUR EXPERIENCES AS A PRINCESS CALLED SPARKELINA. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS CHARACTER AND HOW IT CAME TO FRUITION?

My daughter was made fun of in first grade for wearing a sunflower headband and I told her, "do not let anyone dull your sparkle sweetie!" That is how my book happened! I wanted her to be true to herself and let her wear what she loved and not to care what others thought!

WHAT OTHER IDEAS OR FUTURE PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR SPARKELINA AND FOR YOUR PRINCESS EVENTS BUSINESS?

I am working on a sequel to the book currently and a completely different book too!! I stay pretty booked every weekend with events or birthday parties!

ARE THERE PLANS FOR YOU TO BE FEATURED AT A BOOK SIGNING IN THE ROSWELL AREA? WHERE CAN FANS COME TO SEE YOU?

I moved to Roswell when I was seven until I graduated Roswell High School, in 2008. I then went to the University of Georgia to study Special Education. I would love to come back to my hometown and do a book signing!! I am currently scheduled to do a live book signing at Gracious Plenty in the spring. Details should follow shortly.

“I do Anna, Elsa, Ariel, Cinderella, Barbie, Cruella and my own creation Sparkelina! I do all types of events from readings at school,

A person can be eating the right foods and exercising regularly, but if they are hormonally unbalanced, most likely they will not achieve their desired results.

How we feel is affected by hormonal imbalances, issues with our gut & digestion, liver function problems, our cortisol levels and insulin resistance, all effect how we feel and function. These are culprits of old age.

The solution is to be hormonally balanced taking out of the equation “for your age”.

Platt Family Law can help you and your family negotiate some of life's turbulent waters

Kimbery Wise and Rachel Platt

Platt Family Law is one of Roswell’s most highly regarded law firms and has a team of professionals to help you navigate the, sometimes, murky waters of finances when it comes to family law. With a combined 28 years of experience, founding attorney Rachel Platt and fellow attorney Kimberly Wise will take you under their professional wing while keeping your best interests top priority.

"Money is often the cause of demise in many relationships.  Whether it be the lack of communication regarding money, insufficient funds to cover debts, or excessive spending, often parties disagree on financial matters, and this can put a tremendous amount of stress on relationships,” says Ms. Platt.

This is why it is of utmost importance that new couples be transparent about their financial pictures before combining their lives. Communication is key before marriage in child rearing, household expectations and how both parties plan to handle their finances. Ms. Platt relays, “I think couples need transparency with all things, especially financial matters.  Couples should discuss their finances, develop a budget together and be in agreement regarding large expenditures.  I think it is advisable for couples to meet with a financial advisor early on in their relationship and continue periodically to set financial goals and have a plan that they agree to and can stick to over the years”.

Organizing your financial life together can reveal deficiencies in each other’s portfolio so they can be discussed, give you an opportunity to plan for the future and bring you together as a couple.  Some couples may opt to develop a prenuptial agreement so that there are no gray areas. Ms. Platt states, “ A prenuptial agreement can be a great tool to protect assets that a person is bringing to the marriage, as well as, a  great tool to contract around what our divorce laws provide for dividing assets.  If a person has assets that he or she wishes to protect, I think they need to be upfront about that with their soon-to-be spouse and have a discussion about what the terms of a prenuptial agreement should be.”

With Plat Family Law on your side, you can procure a partner to guide you and a professional to help you navigate the unexpected events that life can bring.

Roswell Makes A Large Investment in Public Safety

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY WITH A BOLD INVESTMENT ENSURING PROTECTION, PREPAREDNESS AND RESILIENCE FOR A SAFER FUTURE

ROSWELL’S ONGOING COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SAFETY IS EVIDENT.

Establishing a new Public Safety Headquarters is an important part of the City’s ongoing commitment to support first responders and enhance safety and responsiveness in the community. The former Sharp Shooters building on Highway 9 will serve as the 911 Center and will house administrative offices for both Roswell’s Police and Fire Department.  "Public safety is a vital priority in Roswell, especially as our city grows," said Mayor Wilson.

Along with these initiatives, The Roswell Police Department purchased a mobile command vehicle equipped with advanced communication and command technologies used to support emergency response and disaster management.

Mobile command centers provide secure locations for communication and establish backup solutions if the primary response function is incapacitated. The center also supports on the spot operations, technical and tactical deployments and negotiations space if needed. There are also secure networks, slide-out sections to expand space, integrated electrical systems along with HD and thermal cameras. Weather stations, radio and robust power controls are also an integral part of the setup.

The City of Roswell's Fire Department was nationally recognized for pioneering efforts to enhance firefighter health and safety, earning the prestigious 2025 Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Fire Service Safety Leadership Award. This honor, presented by the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), highlights innovative leadership in addressing critical challenges within the fire service.

The award was presented February 13th, during the 35th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner in Washington, DC.

Fire Chief Joe Pennino, accepted the award on behalf of the department, emphasizing the significance of the initiative, stating, “This award reflects the incredible support of our Mayor and Council in prioritizing health and safety of our first responders. We are always seeking innovative ways to equip our team with the tools, training, and resources they need to excel. This research project highlights our team’s commitment to firefighter well-being, and we are honored to be at the forefront of advancing firefighter health initiatives.”

The department received this recognition for its groundbreaking research on firefighter health, collaborating with leading experts. The study evaluates impact of a 48/96 shift schedule and adjusted start times on firefighter performance, focusing on how improved sleep quality can reduce physical and mental health risks. The findings aim to provide valuable insights for fire departments nationwide. In a strategic move to promote firefighter health and operational efficiency, the department proposes a 48/96-hour work cycle and a later start time.

The traditional 24/48 hour work schedule has firefighters waking up early to work for 24 hours before and again the following day. The result is a cycle where only one out of three allows for uninterrupted sleep at home. Prolonged sleep deprivation has many associated health risks, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and mental health disorders. The new 48/96-hour model aims to break this cycle giving more time for uninterrupted rest at home. The revised schedule includes a later start time of 11 AM, allowing improved sleep patterns and increased recovery time. Mayor Wilson in support, states, "This is a significant step forward in our commitment to the health and well-being of our first responders. By adopting the 48/96 work schedule, we are enhancing our firefighters' quality of life and improving the safety and efficiency of our fire services."

The Citizens' Police and Roswell Fire Academy's have been founded to develop programs that foster a close working relationship between the department and the Roswell community. The Citizen’s Fire Academy was created to build connections between local fire service professionals by educating those who live and work in Roswell about services provided by the Fire Department. The Citizen's Police Academy is part of the community policing efforts of the Roswell Police Department. This program urges members of our community, to participate and learn about the department, its mission, and the men and women serving in community daily.

The Citizen’s Fire Academy is a free, 30-hour program designed to provide an in-depth understanding of fire service operations and the many functions it serves in the community. This program features a mix of engaging presentations and hands-on activities taught by members within the department to

The Citizens' Police Academy invites residents of Roswell, along with business owners, to attend the Academy. This free program is designed to introduce residents to various functions of police work. The program is free to residents and Roswell business owners 18 years of age or older. Each week the class focuses on a specific division of the Police Department, giving students an overview of the Department's duties and responsibilities.

"Roswell continues to be listed as one of the safest cities in Georgia and in the Metro Atlanta area. The responsibility of public safety is not only a job for the police. Public safety is a shared responsibility among all of us who live, work and play in this fine city. Together, we will improve public safety and ensure that the Roswell Police Department is the premier law enforcement agency in Georgia," states, Police Chief James Conroy.

Additionally to the improvements and investments Roswell is making for public safety, there is a local unsung hero who had an idea to help. Local resident, Michael Hernandez says, "I have always been grateful and have admired our first responders in knowing they are the first on scene giving us a sense of safety and comfort. I can’t imagine what they see when they arrive to an emergency, but knowing they are there and will take care of us in a very unfortunate circumstance is why I wanted to do something." He founded The First Responders

Foundation with a mission to encourage and strengthen partnerships between the citizens of Roswell and our public safety first responders. RFRF is dedicated to providing critical resources to those who make Roswell a safe place to live, work and visit. RFRF raises funds for programs through sponsored events, donations from local businesses, civic organizations, neighborhoods and individuals. Funding provides support and financial assistance for first responders injured or killed in the line of duty or enduring a family hardship. Also supporting and recognizing Roswell firefighter and police officer heroes who demonstrate exceptional skill, expertise, innovation, bravery in keeping us safe. Lastly, funds purchase supplementary or unbudgeted equipment and training materials to keep first responders performing at the highest level of productivity and preparedness.

An excerpt of gratitude from one family who received support, "As you may know, my son was severely injured in a bicycle accident requiring extensive medical attention, which placed a significant emotional and financial burden on our family. In the midst of this crisis, we faced the added challenge of finding accommodations close to the hospital, as we wanted to be by his side every moment. We learned about the assistance provided by the Roswell First Responders Foundation. Your organization stepped in and helped cover our hotel expenses, allowing us to focus entirely on my son's recovery without the added stress of financial strain. Your kindness and generosity not only provided us with a roof over our heads but also comforted us by letting us know that we had a community that cared. Your work is truly commendable, and I am forever grateful for the help we received during our time of need."

Ace Pickleball Club Brings Championship Excitement to Roswell

Roswell is making its mark as a pickleball hotspot, thanks to the Ace Pickleball Club (APC). With the launch of its first National Championship event, APC has brought together top competitors, enthusiastic fans, and a growing community that loves the sport. The inaugural event exceeded expectations, proving that pickleball in Roswell is bigger and better than ever.

WHY ROSWELL?

For APC, Roswell wasn’t just a choice—it was the perfect fit. “Roswell has been welcoming and supportive of Ace Pickleball Club since the inception of our first location. Between the support that we have seen throughout the community and this being our home, we wanted to be able to deliver a memorable event to the community that has been with us since the beginning. Roswell is continuing to grow, and this was a great opportunity to show off this wonderful city,” said Jay Diederich, Founder & CEO.

The city’s thriving pickleball scene and enthusiastic community made it an ideal location for the culmination of APC’s 17 qualifying tournaments held nationwide. More than 2,200 club members competed in qualifiers, with over 500 players from seven different clubs advancing to the championship event in Roswell.

A CHAMPIONSHIP THAT  EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS

The energy surrounding the inaugural APC National Championship event was electric. From the moment the first match began, it was clear that this event was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of pickleball’s growing popularity.

“The turnout exceeded our expectations. From competitors to family and friends, we were thrilled to see the level of support the event received. It truly brought the Ace Pickleball Club community together to celebrate the sport of pickleball. We are looking forward to the growth of the event as we continue to grow with more clubs and more members,” added Brian Noble, Vice President of Pickleball Experience.

With a combined $250,000 in prize money awarded to winners and second-place finishers, the stakes were high, and the competition was fierce. But beyond the prizes, the event reinforced the camaraderie and sportsmanship that make pickleball such a beloved sport.

Spectators lined the courts, cheering on their favorite players, while families and friends gathered to celebrate the growing impact of pickleball. The event not only highlighted individual talent, but also strengthened the bonds within the APC community.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR APC’S CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES?

After such a successful debut, APC is setting its sights even higher. It will host 100-plus qualifier events across the country beginning in March 2026. The inaugural national event was a milestone moment for both APC and the sport of pickleball. And if this year’s event is any indication, Roswell will continue to be a premier destination for high-level competition and community-driven sportsmanship.

With the success of the first National Championship in the books, the only question left is: who will rise to the challenge next year?

Local brand is redefining tennis wear by blending street culture, self-expression, and performance— one stylish, USA-made piece at a time.

Local Teen Serves Style with Spinerado

ARTICLE BY ROSWELL CITY LIFESTYLE

Roswell’s own local resident, Connor Dell is putting a fresh spin on tennis fashion with Spinerado, a brand that blends streetwear edge with court-ready performance. Tennis is a sport of precision, power, and tradition—but who says it can’t have personality too?

Enter Spinerado, the tennis-inspired sportswear brand redefining the game with bold designs and street energy.

At just 1 years old, Connor saw a gap in the market—traditional tennis gear lacked personality. So, he created Spinerado, a high-quality, statement-making sportswear line for athletes who play with confidence. “I wanted something that reflects the energy of the game and the players,” he says. Built for both style and performance, Spinerado pieces are moisture-wicking, breathable, and proudly made in the USA. But beyond the gear, the brand is about breaking barriers. Its mission? To create a community that prioritizes both physical and mental well-being, encouraging athletes to embrace their individuality. With the tagline “Where Tennis Meets Street Energy,” Spinerado isn’t just about fashion—it’s a movement. Whether on the court or in the city, the brand gives players the confidence to express themselves through style.

Now a freshman at Ole Miss, Connor isn’t just launching a brand—he’s challenging the status quo of tennis culture. With Spinerado, he’s proving that tennis wear can be as bold and dynamic as the players who wear it.

Ready to play with style? Spinerado is here to make sure you never blend in.
