Hello Early Spring

Home. So much contained in that little four letter word. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable.

Author Wendy Wunder said, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” As we thought about home - we wanted to highlight what makes it special to our readers. That of course includes the local city leaders that keep us protected in our homes as well as ways to upgrade, update and make our homes function the in very best ways possible but most importantly - the people.

We feel like the lucky ones as we got to learn more about the businesses and individuals that comprise this city and hope the small lens into their lives and work brings people in this community together.

As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you’ll feel encouraged and connected to the people around you - in your city, neighborhood and most all of - your home. Check out all the wonderful home design ideas, one from ATL Designs on bathroom remodeling trends on page 24. Also ways to keep tidy and organized on page 16 and some cool redesign concepts from kitchens, to home offices and beyond on page 44.

Every month, we hear from readers who keep this magazine for longer than just the month labeled on the cover. They say they hold onto it for months as coffee table art or an accessory in their home. We feel proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thanks for letting us be a part of your home.

Please continue to support our local partners, and hope to see you around our great town soon!

Happy March!

Honoring a Hero: Support the Family of Officer Labonte

Officer Labonte joined the Roswell Police Department on November 1, 2021, continuing a lifelong commitment to public service that began well before he became a police officer. Over the years that followed, Officer Labonte faithfully and joyfully served the Roswell community as a member of the night shift patrol alongside his D-Squad brothers and sisters. He was universally beloved by all w ho were blessed to know him as a friend, a husband, a son, and a public servant. His absence now leaves a void that could never be filled. A memorial vehicle was placed outside Roswell Police Station for those wishing to send their love and support to the family and community.

In partnership with the Labonte family, the Roswell Police Department and the Friends of Roswell Police have established a fund to collect financial donations. Our community has already demonstrated incredible generosity. For those who wish to contribute financially, donations can be made by scanning the PayPal QR code above.

TIDY IS TRENDY

NEAT ORGANIZATION SOLUTIONS BEYOND THE BEDROOM CLOSET.

Organizing is necessary and unavoidable and for some, impossible.

I spend hours tidying and reorganizing my bedroom closet each spring and the laundry room gets a makeover once a year before the kids come home from college (and again when they leave). I long for shelving in the garage dedicated to my outdoor gear, for cubbies in my office to hide my knitting and crafts, and a guest room that isn’t all bed and pillows.

Turning to the experts in custom organization and innovative designs for the home, Closets By Design, I found the options enticing and the one-on-one design services essential. The company, family owned and operated, provides help every step of the way with solutions for every room of the house, not just closets.

“At Closets by Design, we understand that every home is unique, which is why our design process is tailored specifically to your individual needs and preferences. From the moment you schedule your no-obligation consultation, our dedicated team is here to guide you every step of the way,” says owner and operator, Stephanie Parmer.

Set an appointment online or by phone and a professional designer will come directly to your home bringing the showroom experience to your doorstep. “Together, you’ll collaborate to create a personalized design that maximizes your space and fits your budget. Once the perfect layout is established, your designer will coordinate the installation date, ensuring a seamless transition from vision to reality,” Stephanie explains.

On installation day, a highly trained installer will arrive with all the necessary materials to complete your project—typically in just one day. Dreamy!

Since its inception in 1982, Closets By Design has carved a niche as a trailblazer in home organization, and today one of their latest focuses has been on transforming garages into efficient spaces that reflect the needs and lifestyle of the homeowner. Think sleek cabinetry, versatile shelving systems, tools neatly organized on wall-mounted racks, sports gear tucked away in custom cabinets, and dedicated spaces for hobby supplies. The company offers garage flooring options too, durable and easy to maintain, giving your space a polished look.

Indoors, a standout trend is in home office design with the rise of custom furniture. These versatile pieces can be configured to fit any space, allowing you to create a customized workstation that adapts to your needs. Think vertical storage options like shelves and pegboards that utilize wall space effectively, as well as drawers that help you find what you need quickly along

with storage cubes and baskets for keeping supplies neatly tucked away while adding a decorative touch.

When we think of home design, laundry rooms often take a backseat. Yet, this hardworking area deserves just as much attention with custom cabinets in on-trend colors or finishes with ample workspace for sorting, folding, and ironing clothes. Countertops— made from durable materials like quartz or granite— that are both functional and appealing are paired with stylish backsplashes for a cohesive look that transforms your laundry area into a mini oasis of organization. Include pull-out hampers, dedicated areas for sorting clothes by color or fabric type, and a foldable ironing board that tucks away neatly when not in use,

My guest room is also my office and I am pining for a Murphy bed from Closets By Design. Their wallbeds are designed to fold up against the wall when not in use, with a user-friendly mechanism, engineered to be lightweight yet sturdy; while they support a standard mattress.

“We’re passionate about transforming overlooked spaces into beautiful, functional areas that you’ll enjoy using,” says Stephanie. “We offer a wide spectrum of finishing options, whether you prefer the warm, natural look of wood or the sleek, contemporary feel of laminate finishes. Each material is crafted for durability while providing an elegant aesthetic that can elevate any room.”

Her team understands every home has unique needs and styles, and they are passionate about providing tailored solutions that enhance both functionality and aesthetics, transforming your spaces into beautifully organized havens.

THE DIVERSITY OF Amish Furniture

Amish furniture offers something for every taste—and it’s built to last for generations

When most people think of Amish furniture the first thing that usually comes to mind is Mission-style furniture. This simple style consists of straight lines, exposed joints, and flat panels. While this is the most well-known design, it only scratches the surface of what Amish furniture has to offer.

Amish woodworkers keep up with modern designs, and one can find a range of other styles when browsing for Amish furniture. These include contemporary, Shaker, mid-century modern, rustic, colonial, formal, and even industrial styles, which combine wood and metal with unique designs.

In fact, this past year, a collection of creative designs was featured in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The pieces showcased the art of Amish craftsmanship and demonstrated how designs can transcend the realm of traditional furniture many people assume it to be.

What truly defines Amish furniture isn’t a particular style but rather the quality. Key features include solid wood construction, exceptional craftsmanship, and age-old construction methods behind each piece. It reflects skill, heritage, and innovation.

The most notable method of construction is the use of mortise and tenon joints. The joints are crafted to fit tightly, providing strength, durability, and a signature appearance. Dove-tailed drawers are another trademark feature. Pieces of wood are cut so they interlock and create furniture resistant to force and daily use. The finishing touches are meticulously done by hand as artisans carefully sand and apply stains to ensure a smooth, mistake-free finish. This attention to detail ensures that every piece of furniture looks perfect.

The Amish pride themselves on providing solid wood furniture typically made by hand and built to order, allowing a person to customize furniture in a variety of ways. Customers can select the wood type, stain, hardware type and more to make the pieces of their dreams. Amish furniture has much more to offer than just a single style. While Mission style is a trademark of Amish craftsmanship, it is not limited to traditional designs. Amish woodworkers continually incorporate designs to match modern furniture trends.

A JEWELED BATHROOM REMODEL

Trending luxury with function for a unique bathroom experience

ARTICLE BY ROSWELL CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF

ATL Designs provided this homeowner a total bathroom remodel including all the latest trends throughout. There were design challenges and requests such as enlarging shower, adding a free standing jetted tub, separate vanities, one with a makeup area and vanities to look like real furniture and a door proximity issue.

But, Angie was up for the task and added a lot of gems and special finishes with soft tones and subtle blue tones.

Instead of custom built vanities, lovely stained mid-century cabinets were sourced through ... legs, simple door/drawer panels and classic brass oval knobs created the setting. The waterfall lighted make up vanity was the solution for a small make up space with no custom build, it is creative on a countertop with unique, stylish and most importantly…functionality. A wonderful marble that works like granite was used, called Fantasy Gold. a honed version with texture to modernize the design. We included a linen swivel slipper chair that has a streamlined style with comfort as a priority. The faux linen drapery provided softness and privacy with light to the spa.

Due to the placement of the glass door being hedged on another glass wall, a hybrid of a frameless/framed shower was installed. Moving the door further into the room helped with the doors colliding into each other. The lux plumbing used was a rain shower,

triple body sprays, secondary shower head and head held. This prismed iridescent jeweled tile was the perfect waterfall accent for the satin brass controls. Finally, in a small space, a nice garden stool is a perfect solution for having a place to sit or stand while shaving your legs.

Floor mounted tub fillers are certainly more expensive than wall mounted ones. But the design and bath experience is certainly elevated. It’s a nice addition if the budget allows. A faux bois brass accent table is great for candles, a glass of water/wine or bath salts/ essentials oils. Expandable bamboo bath trays hold all things necessary for your best bath…book stand, soap holder, glass stand.

“The bath remodel exceeded our expectations. We love all the elements she (Angie) recommended, but the new shower, with a series of water jets and a rain head, is simply marvelous. I told her I wanted the Master Bath and bedroom to be my sanctuary. She understood the assignment!" Charlcye and Reed Kimbrough

Inspiring Taste and Travel Through Content Creation

Malika Bowling was a content creator before the term even existed. In 2009, she launched her blog, Roamilicious, as a creative outlet to combine her love of writing and dining out. What began as a passion project quickly evolved into a career in digital marketing, content creation, and travel writing.

"I started my blog after being laid off in 2008. It was a way to learn about SEO and social media, but it grew into so much more," Malika explained. Her determination and adaptability turned an uncertain time into a thriving business.

Malika’s journey has been full of learning curves, but she’s embraced every challenge. "It’s been fun but bumpy at times," she admitted. Her work has taken her to incredible destinations and introduced her to unforgettable dining experiences—all of which she loves sharing with her followers.

For aspiring influencers, Malika’s advice is clear: put your audience first and diversify your approach. "Start building an email list early—it’s something I wish I had focused on more," she suggested. When it comes to working with restaurants and travel brands, Malika stresses professionalism.

"Vet influencers carefully and ensure staff is prepared for media visits. Covering the tip and making it a great experience can go a long way."

Staying authentic is key to Malika’s success. "I always try the restaurants, destinations, or products myself before recommending them. That way, I know what will resonate with my audience," she shared. "I also turn down offers that don’t align with my values."

Looking to the future, Malika sees the influencer space becoming more discerning. "People will be more selective about who they follow and trust. I just hope blogging doesn’t disappear completely because I still love writing long-form content.”

SCENTHOUND SENTIMENTS

BRINGING CHOICE TO YOUR DOGS NEEDS

Our pooches are a huge part of our family’s lives. Life is so much sweeter when you have a furry friend to share in all of your precious family moments. No one understands this more than Doug Johnston, franchise owner of three Scenthound locations.

When Mr. Johnston began his search for the perfect business that not only matched his interests but also brought a high level of value to customers, Scenthound rose to the top of contenders. ”We have always had dogs as part of our family, we felt Scenthound offered and exceeded services that fulfilled what we needed as dog parents”, says Mr. Johnston. He knew this sentiment extended to all dog owners as loving members of our family and wanted to offer something that your sweet companion could not only count on, but look forward to.

Scenthound also acknowledges that there are certain services that dog owners don’t want to put off until their yearly vet visit. Mr. Johnston relays, “Many dog parents understand the need for bathing but often other needs are overlooked or deferred to vet visits, such as trimming nails, cleaning teeth, and skin and coat care.”

However, Scenthound takes care of all of these needs with their unique approach. They separate their services so you can choose from basic hygiene, blow-outs or haircuts. This way, you only pay for the exact services that are needed.

At the end of the day, Mr. Johnston knows that Scenthound will take care of your pup like he or she is one of their own. You can even ask Mollie, his four-year-old yellow lab who frequents their locations at Johns Creek West, Roswell and Alpharetta. She thinks Scenthound is GRRR-EAT!!

Mollie also likes to lead the charge when exploring Scenthound’s stomping grounds in Downtown Roswell and Alpharetta.” We love that both Roswell and Alpharetta have so many dog friendly establishments. We can make an afternoon of hanging at Table and Main or Standard in Roswell or Alpharetta, which have great spaces to enjoy the Falcons or Braves on their patio,” Mr. Johnston remarks. Scenthound plans to expand in the near future to give you even more locations to frequent, so stay tuned.

SPACES REIMAGINED

Turning your vision for your space into a reality

Hans Schuon comes from a long line of furniture craftsmen. His grandfather, father and uncles worked tirelessly for decades in furniture making and have brought new meaning to the words precision, care and customer service. Together, they have built a legacy and the inspiration behind Schuon Kitchens and Baths, one of the Atlanta area's most sought after remodeling companies. Mr. Schuon relays,” I truly believe that I was born to be in the kitchen cabinet and furniture making business”.

His trusted team of designers are in the upper echelon when it comes to today’s trends and styles. With their unique vision, they can guide you to create a kitchen or bath that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but functional. Mr. Schuon states, “There is a trend toward clean design with a luxe look and feel. Transitional and modern styles blend with luxury materials such as fitted cabinets, exquisite quartzite, high-end appliances, and upscale hardware to create a simple, yet luxurious feeling. Clients like gold and black tones for hardware and light fixtures…with the most popular cabinet colors being light or warm neutrals and blues and greens, which are still trending.”

Creative use of space for home office
Powder room essentials for small spaces
Multi purpose laundry room for all family members

Designers can also consult on unexpected ways to utilize everyday items in your kitchen. Charging stations for technology inside drawers, electrical outlets under the upper cabinets, where they are less visible and unique storage solutions for frequently used appliances are trending for 2025. Organization also still reigns supreme in silverware drawers, spice racks and creative ways to store large cooking items like pots and pans.

The team at Schuon Kitchens and Baths also works closely together to give the client exactly what they want, even if it means

making changes within the space. “ We also help “reimagine”the flow and layout of spaces to create optimal results which can include construction to move doors, windows, and interior walls. We manage the project from beginning to end to ensure all the work is done properly”, says Mr. Schuon.

At Schuon Kitchens and Baths, you are not just a client, but a partner on a team that aims to bring your vision to a reality.

From Sandwiches to Solutions:

TACKLING HUNGER, ONE LOAF AT A TIME

ARTICLE BY TRAN BUI

In the spring of 2020, a small group of friends turned their hunger to help into something extraordinary.

“It started simply as making sandwiches, socially distant but connected in friendship and purpose, in a garage,” says Marcy Louza, co-founder of The Sandwich Project (TSP). The initiative began as a grassroots effort to combat food insecurity in Atlanta during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As the number of sandwiches started to increase, relationships with nonprofits were established, and today, we continue to grow through volunteer leadership, sandwich makers, and others who help deliver sandwiches," Louza explained.

Volunteers of all ages—families, schools, civic groups, and scout troops—“spread” kindness by making sandwiches and dropping them off at one of more than 30 weekly collection points, including in Roswell. TSP’s volunteer transportation system delivers sandwiches, fresh fruit, and healthy snacks to nonprofits serving those in need. To date, over 1.6 million sandwiches have been served, showing that small actions, when stacked together, can solve big problems.

“This may not seem like a lot, but to the family in an extended-stay motel or the unhoused person unsure of their next meal, a sandwich made with love makes a huge difference,” Louza said.

Hunger Free America reports that over 22% of children in Georgia live in food-insecure households, and rising grocery and housing costs have only made the situation worse.

Roswell is a valued contributor, adding about 1,500 sandwiches weekly with support from individuals and organizations like Roswell Presbyterian Church.

TSP also does special collections when a need arises. Volunteers have collected winter gear, calculators, and hygiene products. Whether it's hurricane relief or providing warm coats, TSP proves that when everyone chips in, we can make a real difference.

“We’ve learned that when we ask, people deliver!” Louza added. Want to join the movement? Visit thesandwichproject.org or follow on Facebook.

GET STARTED ON THE PATH TO

A person can be eating the right foods and exercising regularly, but if they are hormonally unbalanced, most likely they will not achieve their desired results.

How we feel is affected by hormonal imbalances, issues with our gut & digestion, liver function problems, our cortisol levels and insulin resistance, all effect how we feel and function. These are culprits of old age.

The solution is to be hormonally balanced taking out of the equation “for your age”.

We want you to have hormonal levels of a healthy young adult. If we get you feeling younger, you will start moving younger. When you start moving younger you will start looking younger. That coupled with guidance on nutrition and exercise will lead to a longer happier healthier life.

ROSWELL RESIDENT, CINDY DERSO A PORTRAIT OF STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE

“THE GEORGIA OVARIAN CANCER ALLIANCE (GOCA) ORGANIZES IMPACTFUL EVENTS TO RAISE AWARENESS, SUPPORT SURVIVORS, AND FUND EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES IN THE FIGHT AGAINST OVARIAN CANCER. ”

“I turned 61 when I learned that I had ovarian cancer”, said Cindy Derso, a Roswell resident. Cindy had an annual physical, after her doctor asked if there was “anything else?” “Yes,” look at my distended stomach!” The OBGYYN suggested Beano for 6-8 weeks, knowing the difference between gas and sever distention of abdomen, his suggestion did not sit right with her. Cindy made an appointment with her internist a couple days later, and was immediately sent for a CAT scan and a vaginal ultrasound. After a long drive home, Cindy entered her dark empty house and scrambled to answer the phone. It was her OBGYN calling to tell her she had ovarian cancer. Stunned and alone in the darkness, Cindy asked God to be with

her, and he was. A ten-year survivor Cindy is here and is a voice for education, awareness leading to early detection. Cindy is a proud supporter of GOCA.

The Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) organizes impactful events to raise awareness, support survivors, and fund educational initiatives in the fight against ovarian cancer. The annual Teal Trot 5K, at Chastain Park, unites families, friends, and advocates to honor survivor communities while remembering those who have passed. The Teal to Heal Fashion Show at Lenox Square Mall, celebrates survivors and their families and caregivers. Both events are designed to highlight survivors’ stories and raise awareness of signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.

GOCA’s flagship fundraiser, the Shaken, Not Stirred Gala, now in its 13th year, is scheduled for March 8th at the Georgia Aquarium. This elegant evening features The Celebrity All Star Band, DJ Angelo Ferraro, incredible silent and live auctions, and most importantly, moving survivor stories offering about their personal ovarian cancer journey. Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI) Atlanta Chapter, curates an exceptional menu in honor of Dame Barbara Petit, showcasing their generosity and commitment to the cause. Proceeds from the gala support GOCA’s critical education and awareness initiatives, a variety of outreach programs, survivor luncheons, and educational events.

GOCA’s events raise funds, but foster a sense of community among survivors and advocates. Participants are empowered to take action, share their knowledge, and support the organization’s mission of saving lives and improving the quality of life for women affected by this disease. Through these efforts, GOCA continues to make impacts across Georgia, championing awareness and providing vital resources for these courageous women. Corporate and individual sponsorship supporting GOCA in a meaningful way to make a difference in the fight against ovarian cancer helping fund vital programs, including community education, early detection, and survivor support services. Supporters empower the organization to save lives and improve the quality of life for ovarian cancer survivors across Georgia.

Roswell's State of the City 2025: Tradition meets Innovation Roswell is committed to honor its rich traditions while embracing bold innovations and forward thinking initiatives was the theme of the January 17th event... It's an exciting time in history for the City of Roswell! This year's state of the City's address and presentation held at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center was packed full in attendance with over 300 from the City's employees, Mayor Kurt Wilson and Council and many business leaders from across Roswell.

An invocation, followed by Tiffany Hunt, a devoted City staff member performing a moving rendition of the National Anthem lead to much applause. A special tribute to Roswell's esteemed Veterans in attendance was also held. City Administrator, Randy Knighton congratulated Patti Weathersbee as Roswell's Employee of the year! Much was shared on how Patti has gone above and beyond the call of duty in her 9 years of service.

A dynamic video highlighted milestones in economic development, transportation, public safety, parks and recreations, public works and more. Mayor Wilson delivering the keynote speech gave credit to City Council and executive leadership as being instrumental in the City's productivity over the last 3 years. "As your mayor, I believe our role in leadership is not just to maintain the status quo but to dream big and take bold actions to shape Roswell for future generations. Together we have the opportunity and responsibility to build our community that embodies the highest standards of safety, quality of life and innovation".

Mayor Wilson emphatically said at the State of the City address, “If you’re not ahead of change and intentional of what you want and don’t want, change will change you, and you want like the results. Indulgence

Just a short car ride away, you can curate treasured memories at these savored southern getaways.

and Adventure

Whether it’s a grand historic Inn in South Carolina low country, a storied Old Florida Inn, a charming North Georgia bed and breakfast, or an elegant Tennessee farm- turned-resort in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, exceptional experiences await. With your best road trip playlist cued, hop in the car beside your travel buddy to experience the utmost southern charm and hospitality.

The first getaway is just a four-and-a-half-hour drive from Atlanta. Refuel your soul at The Rhett House Inn, a historic, family-run “grand dame” built in 1820 and set in the picturesque town of Beaufort, SC. The vibrant Lowcountry town offers shopping, galleries, museums, fine dining, fishing, boating, music, theater, and more.

The Rhett House Family

The second of our recommendations for a unique and historic getaway will not disappoint. Along the Forgotten Coast of Florida, about five and a half hours south of Atlanta, the region's rich history shines through the impressive renovation at The Gibson Inn. Dating back to 1907, the luxury boutique hotel lies at the heart of the easy-going Old Florida town of Apalachicola. The Inn’s history of grand style is carried forward with hand-laid marble bathrooms, hardwood floors, elaborate crown molding, and carefully embellished guest suites. After a visit to the hotel dining room, hotel parlor, sweeping wrap-around porches, and nostalgic parlor bar full of locals and travelers alike, hop on a hotel golf cart to peruse the town. A pleasing array of shops, seafood eateries, and live entertainment abounds. All are just minutes away from the beaches of St George Island.

The inn is a living testament to Beaufort's history, blending antebellum charm with contemporary elegance. It features luxurious rooms that offer both historic character and modern comforts—complimentary gourmet breakfast, evening refreshments, and courtyard and garden spaces for relaxation will bookend your adventure-filled days. The helpful staff at The Rhett House Inn can help you arrange historical tours, boat trips or a visit to the Pat Conroy Literary Center. If you’d prefer to set your own leisurely pace, you can stroll the quaint streets lined with Spanish Moss-covered grand oaks and drive over to walk the beaches of nearby Hunting Island.

Beautiful food served at Glan-Ella

Our third destination is a more economical but still refined getaway. The rustic elegance of GlenElla Springs Inn and Restaurant in the North Georgia mountains has enchanted visitors since the late nineteenth century. Only 90 miles from Atlanta, area attractions include wineries, hiking trails, and waterfalls. The peaceful Inn boasts original heart pine floors, in-room fireplaces, and an excellent restaurant, all overlooking a twelve-acre meadow and garden. The friendly folks at Glen-Ella can enhance your stay with bottles of wine, fresh-cut flowers, chilled champagne, and even an in-room full-body massage. If you and your travel buddy are adventurous, a local zip-line tour, trail ride, and ATV tour are also available.

And finally, about three and a half hours north of Atlanta, near Knoxville, Tennessee, awaits Blackberry Farm. Renowned for its award-winning restaurants, hospitality, and countless activities and adventures, you will be inspired to relax, explore, learn, taste, and enjoy. Starting as a six-room inn, the Beall family expanded Blackberry Farm to create many historic rooms, suites, cottages, and houses for your stay. A farmstead tour, spa offerings, wine bunker tour, sporting clays, fly fishing, golf, and hiking are just some of the many activities offered. Book a Wine and Whiskey tasting, a cooking demonstration, or a hot stone massage, and then afterward,

relax by the fire until it’s time for a delectable dinner. Exemplifying the utmost in Southern hospitality, the staff goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is memorable and enjoyable.

Whether you are bundled up and cozy for a unique mountain stay or footloose and fancy-free near the beach, there is something on this list for every adventure seeker to enjoy. Each venue emphasizes that you can choose the perfect trip based on unique accommodations and excursion offerings. Along with its proximity to Atlanta, each inn or resort was chosen for its grand history, high marks for visitor experience, and charm and character. So, pack up, gas up, crank the tunes and enjoy your time!
