LIFTING INTO HISTORY

EAST COBB’S OWN HAMPTON MORRIS WINS A BRONZE MEDAL AT THE PARIS OLYMPICS
“THE SACRIFICES YOU MAKE FOR THE SPORT NEED TO MATCH YOUR GOALS.”

What started as an intent to grow stronger for soccer has since transformed into weightlifting history. Hampton Morris, a 20-year-old Marietta resident and Alan C. Pope High School graduate, returned from Paris with a bronze medal in hand from the 61kg class of the men’s weightlifting event in the 2024 Olympics. “It feels amazing,” Hampton said upon his return home. “I’m still not sure that it has completely set in.”

Having started at age 10 with his first competition at age 12, Hampton trains under his father, Tripp Morris, in a home gym they built in their garage. Initially, the intent was for someone else to train Hampton, as Tripp had no prior experience in the sport. But when doors continued to close due to misaligned school and gym class schedules, gyms being reluctant to let someone so young lift on their own,

and the excessive distance to the facility, Tripp took it upon himself to learn how to coach his son through his dreams. As a result, the two transformed their garage into weightlifting central—a transformation that was once a necessity but has since turned into an asset.

Hampton continues to astound the world with his accomplishments. “Hampton’s very humble about it,” Tripp said of his son’s success. While the records show Hampton is the first American medalist in the men’s weightlifting event since 1984, it is arguable that it was actually 1976. The Russians, a team well-acclaimed for their weightlifting abilities, did not participate in the 1980 Olympics, leaving it up in the air as to whether the U.S. team would have claimed a medal if they had. “Being able to win a medal for the U.S. after so long makes me feel really proud of myself and my dad for all the hard work we’ve both put in for such a long time,” Hampton said. “It feels like it’s really paying off.”

This is not the first drought Hampton has ended, either, as he became the first American to win a gold medal at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championship in over 50 years. No other U.S. men’s weightlifter has obtained a youth, junior, and senior world championships gold medal, and Hampton currently holds both the junior and senior clean and jerk world records in the men's 61kg class.

“ I WANT TO FUEL MYSELF WELL FOR LONG TRAINING SESSIONS AND RECOVER WELL AFTER TRAINING.”

“Consistency is a really important thing in the sport,” Hampton said. “Giving consistent effort in and outside of training.” This extends to having a consistent diet as well. “Nutrition is a really big part of it and the hardest thing to stay consistent with,” he said. “It’s one of the hardest sacrifices I have to make.” With a strict diet consisting mainly of white rice, fruit, deli chicken, meat,

nuts, and protein shakes, which equates to approximately 3,200 calories, Hampton’s diet remains the same nearly every day— something he claims not to get bored of. Only once a week does he allow himself a cheat meal, which he considers anything different from his normal diet. Even then, he says, “My go-to is ramen, which is still very clean compared to typical cheat meals.”

His diet differs from other athletes, though, in that Hampton eats a lot immediately before, immediately after, and throughout his workout. “I want to fuel myself well for long training sessions and recover well after training,” he said. “You don’t really see many athletes doing that.”

When asked what advice he would offer to those aspiring to reflect his accomplishments in their own life, Hampton said, “The sacrifices you make for the sport need to match your goals.” For athletes aiming to join the international team or make national records, etc., “If you’re not eating right, getting enough sleep, etc., it’s going to be really hard to do any of that.”

There’s no rest for the wicked, as immediately upon his return from the Paris Olympics, Hampton has already resumed his training. “I’m currently working to get back on my full training and recovery schedule and prep for Junior Worlds in a few weeks,” he said. While his training remains rigorous in preparation for his next competition, Hampton’s return to his typical training schedule allows him to resume his pursuit of personal goals as well. “Now that I’m not training for the Olympics,” he said, “I have time to get my driver’s license.”

Knuckies Hoagies' Italian Hoagie

Here are descriptions from the chefs:

• (Cat Plant) Peach of a Party - Beef Taco Casserole: Our Beef Taco Casserole is a fan favorite with lots of flavor without going overboard on heat, so even more mild palates can enjoy it. For our tailgate special, the Supreme version takes it up a notch with local treasure Sully’s Salsa, our house-made cilantro aioli Magic Sauce, and shredded lettuce to create the fun of a taco bar without all the work and mess of a taco bar. And it’s all gluten free!

• (Lazaros Tenreiro) Lazaros Cuban Cuisine - Laz’s Cocky Wings: Grilled Garlic Pepper Wings with fresh Herbs with Spicy Herb Yogurt Sauce. My inspiration was this challenge because I LOVE creating Delicious REAL FOOD with Fresh simple ingredients.

• (Shannon Harrison) Knuckies Hoagies - Italian Hoagie: pepperoni, salami, capicola, ham, onion, lettuce, tomato, provolone, cherry pepper relish, oregano, oil and vinegar. The Italian is packed full of flavor and one of our top selling hoagies. My mother used to make something similar and pack into a cooler when we took day trips to the lake.

From The COOKING, HEART

Three dishes to note on the Roswell dining season this month.

Chefs are inspired by their past, their present and the ingredients that surround them. Perhaps they start with a recipe from their childhood, remembering the emotions, the warmth and the hands around the table. Or, maybe a visit to a local farm sparks an idea that leads to a featured dish. This month, we asked about the dishes chefs are most proud of. And, lucky us. We have these restaurants within reach, with chefs who love to share their vision.

Name of Dish: Birria Tacos

(Slow roasted birria brisket, jack cheese, diced onion, cilantro, birria sauce, white corn tortillas) When it hits the menu:  On the new menu now.

Origin / Inspiration:

Originating from Jalisco, Mexico, birria is a symbol of unity and celebration. This slow-cooked wonder transforms simple ingredients into a vibrant display of culture and history. These Birria Tacos reflect my heritage, connecting generations through rich, flavorful traditions.

NORTH END KITCHEN AND BAR

Sam Adams 1170 Canton St | NorthEndKitchen.com

Name of Dish: Pan-seared scallops over Charred Corn puree, Parmesan and Lemon Risotto. When it hits the menu: Enjoy now.

Origin / Inspiration: The inspiration behind this dish purely comes from our love of the marriage of creamy scallops with sweet corn and salty risotto.  Seared in a Calabrian Chili compound butter.

THE MILL KITCHEN AND BAR

Chef Derek Dollar

590 Mimosa Blvd | TheMillKitchenAndBar.com

Name of Dish: Fall Short Rib

When it hits the menu: On now

Origin / Inspiration:  I like to make familiar dishes with a twist, and this is a hearty meal perfect for the cold months. The combination of root beer and red wine for slow braising the short ribs, adds a unique depth of flavor. The tangy "gravy" made from the reduced sauce and demi-glace, paired with parsnip-potato puree, creates a comforting yet sophisticated dish.  The parsnip-potato puree offers a creamy and slightly sweet base, while the tobacco onions provide a necessary crunch. Pomegranate adds a burst of brightness and is one of my favorite winter fruits, enhancing both the flavor and the presentation.

COOL CAN, SMARTER SIPPING

LOOSEN UP, STAY ENGAGED, AND STAY IN CONTROL

Spencer McManes is a smart guy. He attended Blessed Trinity High School and Yale University where he studied political science and played football. He then moved to Washington, DC to work under Stanley McChrystal at the consulting firm, McChrystal Group, before moving to Austin, TX and taking on a career in technology startups. His wisest decision and best move? “I went through a ‘sober-curious’ phase of my life when I realized that all of my challenges pointed back to alcohol. I knew I wasn’t alone, so I set out to find a better solution.”

Now living in Austin he is the founder and CEO of Kaviva, a company that sells non-alcoholic drinks that give you a buzz. “As a consumer, I found a lack of options between non-alcoholic beverages and alcohol, especially at bars and restaurants, and set out to change that,” says Spencer who grew up in Alpharetta. “I believe people will always want to go out to a shared location to be social and will always want to feel an elevated experience, but that alcohol was not the best way to achieve this.”

While playing rugby in Austin, his Fijian teammates shared an ancient ceremonial tea called kava. Kava is a tropical evergreen shrub belonging to the pepper family, native to the South Pacific Islands. Its root and stems are made into a non-alcoholic tea, also called kava, which is consumed for its calming and euphoric effects, often after rugby matches as a way to bond with teammates and competitors. “There is no hangover, no addiction, yet a calming relaxing buzz and social uplift, similar to that of 1-2 alcoholic drinks,” says Spencer.

He created the formula with a team of food scientists with friends doing taste-testing sessions with natural ingredients. “Finally, we needed the can design to look and feel like the drink tastes… slightly sweet, refreshing, and a burst of good energy to fuel you to have the best day of your life,” says Spencer.

Kaviva is now sold in multiple markets, liquor stores, and bars in the Austin area. He hopes to bring Kaviva to Roswell restaurants and bars.

HONORING A Culinary Legacy

Mix celebration of life gathering June 2

THE CHEF MIX MCCRORY FOUNDATION – EAT, DRINK WELL, AND GIVE BACK

ARTICLE BY LISA WELTSCH | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOLIE LOREN
“The purpose of The Chef Mix McCrory Culinary Scholarship Foundation is to create opportunities that support the next generation of emerging talent in the restaurant industry.”

Jon Michael McCrory, affectionately known as Chef Mix by the countless hospitality vendors, purveyors, chefs, restaurateurs, and both front and back of house staff he inspired, was a man with a life-long passion for creating, cooking, teaching, and giving back. For nearly 35 years, Chef Mix dedicated his professional career to the hospitality industry, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

With his passing in April, Mix's final wish was to create a legacy that would give back to the industry he cherished so deeply. He shared this vision with his wife, Lisa Fay Weltsch and Chris Sedgwick, partner and concept developer of 7Acre BarnGrill in Milton, GA. Mix had a 25-year association with the Sedgwick Group, from the early days at Van Gogh’s, Bistro VG, Vinny’s, Aspen's Steakhouse, and extending through the many chef dinners he hosted at these restaurants. His passion came to life when he and Chris built 7Acre in 2018, a place where Mix's culinary creativity truly flourished.

At his beautiful and touching celebration of life on June 2nd, Mix had compiled a ‘List’ of industry friends and colleagues who had touched his life during his career. Though he had hoped to say his goodbyes in person, he passed on April 12, 2024, before he could fulfill that wish. However, he entrusted Lisa, Chris, and close friend Sean O’Keefe with the mission to build a foundation that would give back to the industry he so dearly loved. The memorial

took place at The Pure Franchise offices in a private ‘man cave’ known as “Dave’s Garage,” hosted by Chris and catered by Pure Taqueria, where friends, family, and those on ‘the List’ gathered to honor Mix's legacy.

With the Month of Giving just completed at all Sedgwick Group restaurants, and now throughout October, 7Acre in Milton will pay tribute and honor its original founder and partner by featuring a “Chef Mix-a-Lot Mocktail.” Proceeds from each sale will go to the Chef Mix McCrory Culinary Scholarship Foundation, ensuring that Mix’s legacy of generosity and passion continues to support future generations in the hospitality industry.

The purpose of The Chef Mix McCrory Culinary Scholarship Foundation is to create opportunities that support the next generation of emerging talent in the restaurant industry. As the foundation grows, it will partner with restaurant supporters to identify talent and provide apprenticeships to those who apply for grants and scholarships. Through this foundation, the commitment is to inspire and nurture future chefs who share Mix's love for the culinary arts and his unwavering commitment to excellence.

COMMUNITY AND NATURE AT WILD BIRDS UNLIMITED

Going Wild

BY SUE G. COLLINS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY WILD BIRDS UNLIMITED

ARTICLE
“I seem to be a magnet for stray and injured animals, since the purchase of the store we have had several parakeets, a redtail hawk, vulture, chicken, sparrow, robin, and so much more brought in and we’ve tended to or taken to various rescues.”

Jessica Janes loves birds and sharing their wonders with folks of all ages. She and her team at Wild Birds Unlimited, Alpharetta not only answer daily questions from customers (best food to attract a mama robin?) but also offer programs, classes and workshops for curious individuals, families and groups who want to learn together.  Jessica and her husband Gregg bought the store on their daughter's ninth birthday in 2022 and haven't looked back.

"I have always been a lover of nature and animals, my husband Gregg jokes that I love animals more than him (he's not quite wrong....). I've been caring for and saving animals since grade school," says Jessica."I seem to be a magnet for stray and injured animals, since the purchase of the store we have had several parakeets, a redtail hawk, vulture, chicken, sparrow, robin, and so much more brought in and we've tended to or taken to various rescues."

She started her journey with Wild Birds Unlimited in her hometown of San Diego, where she bought her first feeder and with each move (CA to Houston, TX to Georgia) would find her local WBU to get the specialty food for my feeder. "We moved to the Alpharetta area right before COVID and being the social butterfly that I am, it made for a rough move."  Since buying the store she has learned so much more about birds and nature.  "None of it would have been possible without the help and support of my great and loyal team that is really more like family. I have eight additional kids now.... and being the neurotic Jewish mother that I am, I am always making sure there is food for

everyone. It's common for us to have a communal nosh table in the backroom or to take someone on a random lunch date."

Her enthusiasm and love of nature is contagious. Kelly Lobuglio hosted her garden club's monthly meeting at Wild Birds Unlimited. "It was one of the most fun events we’ve ever done. Jessica is amazing and so knowledgeable. We loved exploring more about birds, especially their nesting habits and birdhouses," says Kelly. The group learned about how different bird species build their nests, the materials they use, and how they care for their young. "Birdhouses add an extra layer of interest, as you can tailor them to attract specific birds and create a welcoming habitat in your own garden. It’s a wonderful way to connect with nature and support local wildlife. There are so many unique fines in Jessica’s beautiful store and if you haven’t been, I highly suggest you check it out."

Jessica works to keep the vibe fun and welcoming every day. "I bring in my grumble of pugs to greet everyone from time to time, celebrate with our annual Mother's Day Mimosas, special events for our Daily Savings Club (our loyalty club) members, our annual Black Friday sale, and the Thank you for shopping small holiday gifts. We even had Santa and Mrs. Claus in store for a cookies and coloring with Santa event last year."

HOMEMAKASEATL:

Chef Alex Candelas and Irina Rosca
ARTICLE BY TRAN BUI | PHOTOGRAPHY BY AURORA PHOTOGRAPHY

Imagine a dining experience so extraordinary that it transforms your home into a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant. HomemakaseATL provides a unique in-home Edomae omakase journey that turns every meal into a celebration of authentic Japanese flavors and unique culinary mastery.

Founded by Chef Alex Candelas and Irina Rosca, this innovative service redefines luxury dining, creating unforgettable moments that linger long after the last course.

The name is a blend of "Home," "Omakase," and “ATL”. Omakase is a Japanese phrase meaning “I’ll leave it up to you.” It signifies a dining experience where the customer trusts the chef to select and prepare the meal.

CREATING AN EXPERIENCE

“We meticulously craft a multi-course seasonal tasting menu with fresh fish, seafood and ingredients from Tokyo's Toyosu Market,” explained Chef Alex. “You’re likely to try some pieces you have never had before.”

Each event is personalized, from considering dietary restrictions to customizing messages on the menu to celebrate special occasions. The service is designed to create unforgettable memories in an intimate setting, with all the necessary dining essentials—tableware, crystal glassware, and more—provided by the company. This approach allows hosts and their guests to fully immerse themselves in the experience without any logistical concerns.

“Unlike typical omakase dinners where chefs remain behind the scenes, Chef Alex actively engages with guests, involving them in the culinary process and enhancing the overall experience,” explained Rosca. “His dynamic presence adds a unique and interactive element to the dining event.”

A distinctive feature of HomemakaseATL is the "Luchador" mask, which Chef Alex sometimes wears during the event. This mask, deeply rooted in Mexican wrestling, reflects his heritage and personal inspiration, motivating him to elevate each omakase meal to new heights.

A PERSONAL JOURNEY

With over 20 years in Japanese gastronomy, Chef Alex’s passion for sushi and his dedication to sharing it in a more intimate environment led to the birth of HomemakaseATL. His mission is to show the same love and joy he found in food as a child, now elevated to a Michelin-level experience in your home.

TURNING TRAGEDY into a MISSION:

In the fall of 2017, Max Gruver, a graduate of Blessed Trinity High School, arrived at Louisiana State University (LSU) with big dreams. Max, who had a passion for journalism and had written over 360 articles for Def Pen Radio out of New York, was set to major in communications. He was known for his easygoing nature and his ability to befriend everyone around him.

Tragically, his time at LSU was cut short when he was hazed to death by members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

"Max’s death was completely preventable," Gruver shared, "Hazing should never be part of any organization in order for another person to be a part of a group or team. It is completely senseless.”

After Max passed away, his parents found comfort in their son’s words. They found a book of his writings and came across a message about blessings. “God works in mysterious ways. Sometimes He allows bad things to happen because they ultimately lead to good. Something bad may happen to you, but it may make you stronger. He allows bad things to happen to ultimately create good.”

Inspired by these words, they established the Max Gruver Foundation in 2018, with a clear mission to fight against the hazing culture and educate students about its dangers.

Since then, they have presented over 200 times and reached more than 150,000 students, primarily on college campuses. However, their mission has expanded to include high school students, recognizing that many are exposed to hazing before even stepping foot on a college campus.

They have developed three distinct programs: one for high school students preparing for college, one for parents to help them identify and discuss hazing, and a peer-to-peer program

The Max Gruver Foundation's Fight Against Hazing

“We will never know the true impact we have had from sharing Max’s story,” his mother said, “but we know there is a huge impact in the stories and comments we receive.”

in collaboration with Phi Delta Theta that educates high school students about the risks of hazing.

"We will never know the true impact we have had from sharing Max’s story," his mother said, "but we know there is a huge impact in the stories and comments we receive. Changing one person’s mind about hazing, someone calling 911 or saving someone’s life is proof we are making a difference."

Looking ahead, they aim to fully implement their high school programs across the country, ensuring that funding is never a barrier to education.

“Because of Max’s words, we knew immediately we needed to make something good out of something bad,” Rae Ann reflected.

Their work is not only a tribute to Max’s life, but a vital effort to end hazing and keep kids safe.

The Pink Fight

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH IS A TIME TO TAKE ACTION!

Amid the pumpkins, leaves and scarecrows, October evokes passion around an important cause. Shop windows, bumper stickers, and t-shirts adorn the pink ribbon, which holds a powerful message for those impacted by breast cancer as the rest of us treasure the reminder of its significance.

On average, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 14 seconds, making it the leading cause of cancer in women, and as of 2020, the most common cancer worldwide.

We're reminded to encourage women across the country to get mammograms, the most effective tool against breast cancer and to support families affected by this disease.

October 18th is Wear It Pink Day 2024. Slip on your favorite pink to share your support!  In the meantime, there are a host of charities and nonprofits you can support.

AURA SALON AND SPA’S

NE W EST STYLIST!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

After 10 years behind the chair, the clients inspire me! Getting to know them and their story, helping them fall in love with their hair all over again. I found for myself gravitating towards working with future brides. I’ve always prided myself on being a problem solver, so after a decade of providing services for brides I really found inspiration and a fire when I created a masterpiece that brought many women tears of joy to their eyes. This foundation to my passion behind the chair was originally inspired on sets of movies for the silver screen. After being part of a team where we created masterpieces to grace the silver screen, my priorities shifted to starting a family and raising my son.

2)

WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER STYLISTS?

I see the world in different colors, being colorblind has allowed me to see the world through a different lens. It has honed my craft into becoming a blonde specialist, extension artist and bridal specialist.

3)

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE AURA SALON AND SPA?

When I relocated from Chattanooga, I wanted to find a home for myself and my clients, where they could be celebrated for being themselves. I’ve struggled in the past with finding a salon or an environment where their true aura could shine as brightly as they do when they leave my chair.

MORE than BASEBALL

Considered the baseball team of the South and even named America’s Team decades ago by Ted Turner, the Braves have called Truist Park their home since 2017, and the team has soared in popularity throughout the South since the relocation from Turner Field. The stateof-the-art 41,000-seat ballpark offers stunning views, foodie-worthy concessions, and fun activities for the entire family. The season continues with 17 home games this month.

If you haven’t been to The Battery, the mixed-use development connected to Truist Park, you don’t need to wait for a baseball game to visit. Offering a blend of culinary offerings, retail locations and vibrant bars, The Battery is also home to the Coca-Cola Roxy, a worldclass concert and special event venue. I attended a show there recently. Parking was a breeze and after the show, we had a choice of restaurants and bars, lively without being overly crowded or too loud.

Dine at C. Ellet’s Steakhouse, Garden & Gun Club, Superica or find your new favorite.

Exploring The Appalachian Trail and Self

It was a fortuitous meeting with Peanut Butter and Corn Syrup that sealed the deal for Hudson Brock to hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.  A graduate of Holy Trinity and Kennesaw State University, Hudson grew up hiking with his dad and while his college schedule was upended during COVID, he started backpacking solo. “That next year I was hiking a section of the AT near Blood Mountain and met two hikers walking the whole trail,” he says. "I still remember their trail names, Peanut Butter and Corn Syrup. We chatted while eating and I got into my head that I wanted to hike the whole trail after completing college.”

Hudson completed his degree from KSU in Computer Engineering in December of 2023, hit the trail in March and hiked 2,192 miles finishing in July of 2024. He started hiking 10 miles a day, building to an average of 20-plus miles, camping in subzero temperatures in the Smoky Mountains, marching through all-day rain storms and filing away more memories than he could have imagined. “I also lost 40 pounds. By the time I got to the base of Mount Katahdin in Maine, I really looked like a whole new hiker,” he says.

The Appalachian Trail (AT) is a footpath-only trail that extends from Georgia to Maine. The trail passes through 14 states and through various national and state parks. Each year there are somewhere between three to four thousand people who attempt it, with a success rate of 20-25%.

PREP AND CIRCUMSTANCE

Hudson already had some backpacking experience, so his focus was on training for a long-distance hike and

foul weather and perfecting his equipment. "I tried to walk on mountain trails when I could, but usually when I had less time, I went to Leita Thompson Park. I calculated I walked something like 400 miles there.”

DAY ONE

“The first few days are honestly the hardest part of the trip, both mentally and physically. Doing some walking beforehand does not train you for hiking day in and day out,” says Hudson who at that point had doubts about his success. “Muscles get super sore from climbing mountains, and you still need to hike the next day. Mentally, the huge task ahead of you is daunting.”

The trail starts here in Georgia at Springer Mountain. "I took the longer route up to Springer, starting at Amicalola Falls where I picked up my AT tag, number 661, the 661st person to start the northbound trail from Georgia.

His parents were in Maine to cheer him on at the end of the trail. The last seven miles of the trail are some of the hardest with an elevation gain of over 4,000 feet, over five miles. The terrain is a boulder field, requiring precise climbing and good footwork.

The view from the top at Baxter’s Peak is spectacular and fortunately for Hudson, skies at the summit were clear. “After stopping and looking at the view, I cried. I cried in relief of the journey being over and I could sleep in the same bed for more than a night. I cried in joy that I had completed such a monumental task of my own will. I cried in sadness that I was done with this journey.”

Next up? Hudson will start graduate school in January and is aspiring to complete his “triple crown,”  training to conquer the Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail.

“After stopping and looking at the view, I cried. ”

Giving is the Game

The Country Club of Roswell (CCR) completed its 46th Annual Charity Tennis Pro-Am Invitational in August.   This event begins with a Friday night "Sparkles & Spurs" Gala having a live and silent auction followed by a two-day tennis tournament.  While final numbers will be announced this month, the team is excited to announce that we expect to exceed our previous year's donation of over $100,000.00 to our charities.

CCR Pro-Am Mission: Through a tennis tournament and its related activities, including a gala supported by members, local business sponsors and other patrons, we annually raise funds to provide grants to eligible, local, non-profit

organizations that empower, enrich and improve the lives of the people within our community.

CCR has a long history of giving back to the community, supporting four local charities:

• Special Pops Tennis is based in the metro Atlanta area offering an adaptive tennis program specifically designed to share the sport of tennis with children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

• Stand Up for Kids (SUFK) is working to end the cycle of youth homelessness by getting kids off the street, into safe housing, and through school.  During the 2022/23

school year, 100% of SUFK students graduated or stayed in school.

• For the Love of Ryan is dedicated to helping local families with children/ young adults struggling with depression and other mental health issues by offering support, education, and therapy to parents and their children.

• Daughters Against Alzheimer’s is driving awareness and fundraising to support collaborative work conducted by some of the world’s premier doctors, scientists and researchers at Emory’s Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.  Joyce Clark, Chairman of the Pro-Am Committee, worked with 20 volunteers for nine months to prepare for the auction, gala, tennis event, and additional fundraisers throughout the year.  Marcus Rutsche, CCR Director of Racket Sports, and his team planned the two-day tennis event pairing a CCR member with local tennis pros. John Fairall, CCR General Manager, called the event an "incredible success."

A prime objective is to make the Pro-Am successful for everyone.  "Our charities benefit from the generous contributions.  Our sponsors receive exposure and publicity.  Our players and pros have an incredible tennis tournament.  Everyone has a great time at the gala and auction.   We are grateful for our sponsors’ generosity which makes our event successful and we are already looking forward to next year!" says Joyce.
