ey y'all,

According to Tim Cahill, “A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.” I'm sitting in the airport on my way back from my annual girlfriend's getaway with my sorority sisters, full from the experiences that we shared. This year’s destination was Puerto Rico but over the past sixteen years we have done Vegas, Houston, D.C., and Chicago just to name a few. We engaged in some relaxing coloring and I overheard and participated in some brilliant conversations from education reform to the levels of feminism present in Beyonce's visual album to the upcoming election. We lay by the resort pool, steps from the beach, and took a break from high-powered careers, and motherly, sisterly, and wifely duties. We pressed pause on volunteering, mentoring, and our various civic engagements, and unplugged, if only for a moment, to catch our breath. On the island, we were able to just BE. In addition to recharging, we also took advantage of the experiences around us. We walked through the colorful beauty of Old San Juan and the tranquil, if drenched, naturally scenic ambiance of El Yunque rainforest. And we walked into to the zen state that only spending time with friends of nearly twenty years can provide. They are more than friends. They are my family, my true sisters. The summer is short. At this point, you've barely got enough time to squeeze in a family beach trip or a couple's getaway before the school bells start to peal again. This July travel guide is full of tips that will help you make it count. Travel expert Jessie Cassar offers some tips to overcome jet lag. There is a piece on Japan and a review of the Beaches resort. But if you want to stay close to home this summer, there's also a guide to fun and free or inexpensive parks and splash pads.

alk, skip, run, jump, climb! Staying active is one of the most important things you can do for your body and your health. According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, an adult needs two types of physical activity per week to maintain and improve their health. These two types of activity are aerobic and strength training. The guidelines go on to recommend 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity and at least 2 days of muscle strengthening exercises. The guidelines change slightly with more vigorous activities such as jogging or running, or a combination of moderate and vigorous aerobic activity. Georgia in general, and South Fulton County specifically, have many wonderful parks and recreation areas that are conducive for walking and maintaining physical activity. There are also several nature trails in South Fulton County that showcase the natural beauty of our communities. Walking for 30 minutes per day is often the best way to initiate an exercise program. Additionally, although the Georgia sun is often unrelenting, we are fortunate to often have cool mornings and frequent summer showers to cool a hot summer day. The best way to stay hydrated during any workout is to drink plenty of water. Exercise has been proven to improve not only physical fitness, but also mental well-being and improve symptoms of depression and anxiety. Furthermore, physical activity often diminishes pain and stiffness. The old saying “use it or lose it” has real meaning especially for middle-aged and elderly adults. It is important to always discuss an exercise plan with your doctor prior to starting to insure that it is appropriate and safe for you. For more information regarding parks and recreational facilities near you, you may contact the Fulton County Parks and Recreation Department at 770-740-2416.

M

en in seersucker suits. Women donning their finest hats. Bartenders pouring up Mint Juleps... On Saturday, May 7, 2016, Hotel Indigo in College Park, GA was filled with men and women in celebration of the Kentucky Derby. The fellas came out dressed to impress with seersucker suits (not just pants or blazers--suits), bowties, and the finest shoes. Not to be outdone by their male counterparts, the ladies sported big hats, sundresses, and stilettos.

AMBIENCE

As soon as you walked into the beautiful lobby of Hotel Indigo, you were offered the oh-so-appropriate Mint Julep with an extra splash of champagne. The aromas from the delicious spread of food enticed as guests were greeted by the event staff. And what a vision! A beautiful cake created by CEO Custom Cakes to celebrate the Kentucky Derby was on display tempting everyone on diets to forego them. The food was divine to say the least. The presentation was flawless and catered to all walks of life. Even though I don’t eat pork, I did that day! It was so good too! Perfectly tender, it melted in my mouth and the seasoning coupled with the jelly that accompanied it tantalized my taste-buds. They had mini desserts 14

South Fulton Lifestyle | July 2016

for those of us who embrace adulthood by indulging in sweets prior to eating more savory options. I will say this--no one left hungry! The weather agreed with the event which was perfect since there were three areas to enjoy it in. There was a room dedicated to "bidding" on the horseraces and a patio area for the cigar connoisseurs by Cigaros of Georgia. I’m not a smoker but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the scent was delicious when you went outside. It wasn’t too hot and the patio furniture encouraged interaction. And there was bourbon by J.R. Revelry. Quite possibly THE best bourbon that I’ve ever tasted in

Besides eating and drinking, there were other things to participate in as well. There were raffles for some rather amazing gifts. Auctioned off were hotel stays, gift boxes, gift certificates and more. I’ve never "bet" on a horse or anything before but I did it that day! And I won! There were three races that attendees could "bet" on. There was a mock betting window and everything. This was a lot of fun--especially since I won two of the three races! Who doesn’t love a good photobooth? Ok, so all women pretty much love photobooths and we drag our men in there to take goofy photos with us. But the spread was great! There were costumes that catered to both men and women and the pictures came out great! They kept copies of all the photos taken to put into a book for people to sign as a keepsake for the event which I thought was a nice touch. There were prizes awarded based on what you wore so please believe that next year my husband and I will be dressed to the nine’s ready to win! There was a hat contest where all the ladies showed their hats off. There was also a best dressed couple contest. I loved this! My husband and I have been married for 2 years but this gave us some

great #couplegoals because these duos came out coordinated, grown, and classy! Who needs to meet and network on the golf course when you can do it at a derby celebration? THE CHARITY

This was a good time had by many but it wasn’t for naught. The proceeds of this beautiful event benefited the South Fulton Arrow Youth Council. Arrow is a rigorous leadership training program for students 13-22 with a simple mission: Vision + Hard Work = Students Success.

Prior to this event, I didn’t know about the Arrows (what they affectionately call themselves), but as a mother of two whose passion is children, this charity is close to my heart. It takes a village to raise a child and this charity provides just that--the positive village to raise upstanding children. Check out their website to learn more about their core values and how you can help. The First Annual SOFU Charity Kentucky Derby Soiree was a great success and I can’t wait for next year!

Along with the establishment of several arts centers – South Fulton, Southwest & Aviation, a new venue for jazz – St James Live, for concerts on the green – Wolfcreek Amphitheater, for television and movie production – Atlanta Metro Studios and for fine dining with Corner Grille, Baltimore Seafood, Mulan, Panache and others, there also is a new wave of health and fitness

that hit #SOFU with the grand opening of the Barre B fitness experience. Barre B is the new boutique exercise studio for SOFU. It is the brain child of Sherry Darby and Erika Maxie, two South Fulton residents who first met through a shared passion for early childhood education. Sherry, owner of Kumon of Atlanta- Sandtown in South Fulton for over 10 years, recognized that there was a disparity in the area of exercise and health in South Fulton especially as pertains to the kinds of upscale boutique, neighborhood services that one might find in Buckhead or Vinings. She set out immediately to address this need reaching out to her friend Erika Maxie, a NASM certified personal trainer with a background in boutique fitness operations who had also developed her own brand of Core Fitness mobile services, and asked her to consider a partnership. "In Erika, I knew that I’d be working with someone that has experience and a unique passion for fitness and for this community. I know that together, we’ve created something special.” The Barre B fitness concept is based upon an exercise technique of low impact, ballet inspired movements designed to lift, tone and tighten target areas of the body increasing strength and flexibility. Barre exercise as a trend began in the U.S.

several years ago and has steadily gained in popularity. Barre B integrates the philosophy and foundational concepts of Barre combined with Pilates and other high energy elements to help create a lifestyle of fitness. “In following the fitness industry over the years,” said Erika, I have seen a growing demand for differentiated neighborhood services in an intimate upscale setting that benefits the whole person, mind & body, that brings down the busy of our busy lives as opposed to the big box, commercial gyms where you simply get a workout. No matter what your current fitness level is today Barre B can work for you. Services offered include Yoga, Core Fitness, Cardio Concepts and Personal Training along with the signature Barre B classes. Classes are open level, no experience is required. Ultimately, because barre is low-impact, most anyone can do it. Complete with an online check-in, a towel service and lockers. There are several different packages and memberships to choose from. We look forward to being a part of your health and wellness journey. “See you at the barre!” For more information, call 404.405.1188 or visit BarreB.com 5819 Campbellton Road, Suite 105, Atlanta, GA 30331

am a longtime area resident, business consultant, active community member, and a former Camp Creek Parkway retailer, so my contextual understanding of the area, the community, and the issues is fairly strong” says Michael Davis, Camp Creek Business Association (CCBA). “We are working to reinvent the business association concept in three ways. First, I wanted to make all CCBA decision making business owners perspective by increasing the CCBA value proposition by facilitating individual business growth, providing access to key government leaders and business stakeholders, foster strong networking, and assume a proactive advocacy role within the overall business ecosystem. Second, I want the CCBA to increase the dissemination reach for relevant information and deepen community participation and engagement. This positions the CCBA to assume the role of community voice for traffic congestion and public safety and to aggressively advocate for smart, sustainable economic development. Lastly, we want to open up the monthly CCBA meeting and our information updates to a larger audience through video via our social media platforms.” The CCBA is the businesses and community voice for the Camp Creek Parkway corridor (from Hartsfield-Jackson International Atlanta Airport to Fulton Industrial Blvd). KiDsGyM USA in College Park

Celebrates 30 Years! ARTICLE ERIKA TOWNSEND | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

hat started in Seattle as a preschool gymnastics program utilized by affluent families, has today turned into a vehicle to touch children of all backgrounds. Initially offered to the upper echelon of Bellevue, Washington, the husband and wife co-founders of KiDsGyM USA® expanded their program to reach children from a small inner city church. These particular children could not pay even a fraction of the true program’s cost. A program exposing them to a world they could only dream of! Witnessing how their program integrated the power of early movement education to bring children from different backgrounds together, the Campbells made a life altering decision. They created a non-profit corporation with the mission to cater to underserved children. They moved from Seattle and started anew in the South Fulton area, College Park specifically. Blending family and business has proven to be a successful venture for both them and the families they serve. Modeling family values and being in business together is a delicate balance. “We are always talking about the business and there is never a dull moment; but that is a con as well because we are always talking about the business,” Campbell reveals. Their main priority today is KiDsGyM USA®; however, family and relationships can never take a backseat. The husband and wife team constantly set an example to both their children and the community that they serve. For the family of six, the couple having

the same schedule gave them flexibility. It allowed Stephanie to work from home, behind the scenes, giving her more time to spend with her growing kids. She also found the time to invest with the friends of her children. When her kids went to the gym, the students at the gym became their friends. The same core values that KiDsGyM was instilling in her children was infused into the community through the concept of family. With this revelation, she envisioned how important and impactful their work through KiDsGyM could be with generations of kids. She made working with the business and making life comfortable for them look so easy that they didn’t believe she actually worked! One day, her youngest son, Jordan, saw her get very excited and asked her, “What happened mom? Did you get a job?” It was a job and a passion to provide kids with unimaginable opportunities. During the Olympics in 1996, Stephanie and Tracy gave KiDsGyM kids a front seat to world class athletes, performers, politicians, and members of the media. They were always exposing CONTINUED >

children to experiences that were typically reserved for those more fortunate. By allowing her children to be active in the business as well, they also reaped the benefits of working with this world class organization that their parents had built. For instance their daughter, Morganne, who had an issue with stuttering and self-confidence at an early age was able to make a dramatic 180 degree shift in her life. After performing with KiDsGyM TOPGUN Tumblers at many professional halftime games in front of tens of thousands of fans, her stuttering disappeared and her confidence soared. In fourth grade, Morganne won a state championship in gymnastics and years later became the captain of her college basketball team. Stephanie also shared how her eldest son, Tracy, who had never played tennis or golf found it easy to do so after developing the fundamentals of sport through KiDsGyM. This is no surprise to me after witnessing the level of dedication, passion, and love Coach Tracy has when working with students and instructors alike. Volunteering for KiDsGyM was my first opportunity to serve children as an adult and watching how Tracy would treat everyone like family inspired me to become an educator today. Their eldest daughter, Courtney, is also an educator and exhibits the same love for teaching and administration. The life lessons taught through KiDsGyM USA® has now expanded to help children from global communities! Stephanie recalls a pivotal “a-ha” moment when they received recognition from former President George W. Bush. “One of the most humbling moments for our organization was performing in Washington D.C. for PETA in 1991 and a White House staffer approached us and said that they would like to honor us for the work that we do.” They were also recognized by former President Bill Clinton’s administration. After 30 years of teaching children the fundamentals of gymnastics and life at Conley Recreation Center (the home of KiDsGyM USA®), they now offer training to others to follow in their footsteps. What began through an inner city church in Seattle has led them into a lifelong ministry of serving God’s children. With Christ, family, and community at the helm, KiDsGyM is destined to travel the world shaping and changing lives for many generations to come!

he head priest walks over to the center of the main shrine room to offer the daily morning prayers. Chanting, clapping, singing and a specific protocol of procedures, for passing the blessed offerings on to other members of the party, follow. Drumbeats declare the end of the ceremony and the assistant to the priest, in full regalia, invites guests to a sip of sake. This is the daily scene at the Shinto-Buddhist shrine resting atop a long series of stone steps on Mt. Haguro-san, where you can visit while touring the northern parts of Japan. With Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka being the more familiar tourist destinations in the country, the northerly regions afford a unique travel experience, far-removed from the fast-paced fancy cars and lit-up signboards synonymous with city life depicted in movies and shows.  There are many ways to explore the Land of the Rising Sun, authentic among them being a journey with Walk Japan, hiking and trekking through smaller villages and towns, indulging in the beautiful and iconic scenery of the Tohoku region, wandering along the rugged Sea of Japan coast and all the while, enjoying encounters of the friendly kind. WALKING NORTH: DISCOVERING JAPAN (CON TI N U ED)

foreigners visit to learn about their culture and lifestyle, and take great pride in sharing their home and country with others. English is not very widely spoken outside of the large cities so a tour guide is highly recommended. Much of Japan is mountainous and hilly, and most areas made accessible with an intricate web of walkways, stairs, trails and more. Coastal areas like Matsushima and the island of Sadoga-shima are accessed through the waterways – jetfoil and ferry being common modes of transport. You will be inspired by some of the greatest scenery to be found in Japan including this, one of the classic Three Views of Japan – the pine-clad islands of Matsushima are a delight. The bustling port brings in visitors and tourists alike. Sado-ga-shima, on the other hand, once a place of exile for enemies of the land, today gives guests the opportunity to enjoy quiet coastal life and local delicacies as well as a chance to understand its past glory when it was a booming gold mining town. The crested ibis, once found here in abundance, is now no more a common sight but locals hold it in high esteem, and its likeness is seen on products in the area. Another aspect to the tourism in these areas is the historic relevance of local sites. Hiraizumi, Japan’s latest UNESCO world heritage site, featuring the Chuson-ji and Motsu-ji temples, provides an inkling of the area’s past splendor, once considered to rival that of Kyoto. Motsu-ji has been restored to its 12th century grandeur and Chuson-ji includes the Golden Hall - one of the most elaborately decorated Buddhist structures in Japan. The gardens here are simply spectacular, and the chrysanthemum festival is a must-visit. Traditional inns, called ryokans, are a great way to experience Japanese culture. When you enter your room, only a desk and floor-level chair sitting on a series of mats covering the floor greet you. Closet space along the walls of the room hold all the furniture required in creating the space you want. When at dinner, staff put out a bed for you to sleep in – this is the Japanese style of space-saving furniture. Casual robes known as yukatas are provided at most inns, especially those that offer a thermal hot spring bath or onsen. They are colorful, patterned and tied together with a belt, sometimes even featuring a jacket that goes over. It is acceptable to stroll around the premises in this outfit, whether dining at the restaurant or heading for a bath. The onsens are public bathhouses and the relaxing hot water baths here are said to have healing powers because of their mineral-rich composition. Although sushi, sashimi and many other Japanese dishes have become staples in America, regional Japanese cuisine is strongly influenced by seasonal ingredients including many pickled vegetables, raw and broth-cooked meats, and seafood. Red bean snacks and desserts are commonly found, and a favorite. A formal dinner spread usually consists of multiple courses, with each course offering an array of bite-sized to personal-size portions. You will love eating and walking your way through Northern Japan! DETAILS: WalkJapan.com

His chain, Wolf Camera, was synonymous with the latest in film and developing tech. But then something happened that changed Wolf and the shutterbug business forever.

Seemingly overnight, film and its developing processes retreated to the domain of art houses and rogue holdouts hiding in darkrooms and dank basements. This small niche could not sustain a rapidly shrinking market in film cameras. The silver nitrate was on the wall, and eventually Wolf Camera was shuttered. A stint with Ritz Camera, owned by Wolf ’s uncle, offered some borrowed time, but fell to the same fate in 2012. CONTINUED >

When most seniors would be planning their next tee time, Wolf planned his comeback. “I’m having fun,” he said, “I saw no point in sitting still, this is my passion and I love it. I love photography and how it can makes and preserves memories for people. It’s what I do, it’s what I’ll always do.” In 2014, Wolf launched Photo Design Bar and plans to once again rebuild his empire, eventually expanding nationally with satellite or franchise operations. “The film camera gave way to digital, but it didn’t end there,” said Wolf. “Now, smartphones offer the resolution SLR cameras did only a few years ago with much more convenience. It’s amazing how far that technology has come. We don’t even sell cameras.” Instead, the Digital Photo Bar offers myriad options to preserve, restore or enhance those images, transforming them into art or advertising. “We can apply our customer’s digital images to canvas, wood, metal, virtually any surface. This creates personalized ‘art decor’ for home or office, said Wolf, “Images can be printed from wallet size to 10-foot x 30-foot billboard. We can print on T-shirts, lamps, coffee mugs—pretty much anything the customer wants.” Wolf has created a kind of photographic concierge service. He employs professional photographers and photoshop experts to create special effects, enhance images, dropout backgrounds, retouch, restore or repair old print photos, and create photo books, calendars, and DVDs for still shots or video. Similar to Apple’s Genius program, store personnel will offer hands-on help to customers wanting to learn how best to use their smartphone cameras, according to Wolf. Education programs on digital photography on a one-on-one basis or classroom setting are also available. Individual tutoring costs $100 per hour; group classes cost $50 for a 90-minute session. Pasta and Pizzeria AUTHENTIC ITALIAN CUISINE THAT'S WORTH THE DRIVE ARTICLE BY COLLIN SHAMLEY | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

ADDRESS: 105 E Main St #100,

I

f you have been searching for authentic Italian cuisine, then look no further. Vingenzo’s, located in Woodstock, GA, is unique in that every dish is created with individual attention and care. To Chef Mike Bologna, it doesn’t matter how many great meals he has prepared in the past. All that matters is the next meal and the next customer he is serving. I had the privilege of interviewing Chef Mike. You would never know someone with so many awards and accolades is one of the most humble people you could come across. SFL: WHAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL?

It’s not Americanized whatsoever. It’s what we do in Italy. Everything is made here on the premises. I make my own sausage. I make my own pasta. I make my own pizza. I make my own gelato. Everything is made fresh every day. When we run out we run out for that day and we make it again tomorrow. Most of my clientele is from a 30-plus mile basis. They drive to the restaurant knowing that the love and the care and respect for ingredients is there and the quality of the product is on the plate. Hopefully, they have the most fantastic meal that they’ve ever had. Also, it might bring back memories from when they were a child if they had this type of food when they were younger. And I hope that they experience a true dining experience with a true value. SFL: WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR THE RESTAU-

RANT COME ABOUT?

It was all because I wanted a true Italian pizza. I visited Italy quite a bit and I wanted pizza like they served in Naples. So I built an oven and the entire restaurant was built around the oven.

40

South Fulton Lifestyle | July 2016

that there are individuals who crave for the true product I’m happy to do what I do for them. SFL: IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH YOU

KNEW AT THE START OF YOUR BUSINESS THAT YOU KNOW NOW?

A: The business was built on the customer’s needs so I didn’t overextend and bring it to what I only wanted to do. The only thing I wanted to do was keep it true to the cuisine and keep a great plate value. That’s the main thing I wanted to do and I never waivered from that. As far as the growth of the restaurant, that all came from the customer. I started out in 2008, just before 2009 when the economy started to tank out. As the clientele base grew the demands for quality and wants and needs I expanded that. The food quality has always stayed the same at the highest level. SFL: HOW WOULD YOU RANK THE IMPOR-

TANCE OF CONSISTENCY IN YOUR CUISINE?

Consistency is everything. When you go to a restaurant and you have something you really liked, you have been excited enough to tell someone else, when you go back or when that person goes there that you told, you expect it to be the same quality or higher. I am always striving for perfection. Here my attitude is very simple. The pursuit of perfection is where excellence is the norm. Mediocre isn’t in our vocabulary. The way I look at it is how can I be better every day. It’s not what I have done. It’s what I am going to do. It’s not the meal that I served you. It’s the next meal that I’m going to serve somebody else. Our publisher Michelle Taylor Willis has this to say

SFL: IS THE BUSINESS TODAY WHAT YOU HAD

about Vingenzo’s: “The food was amazing. I would

I wanted a small place so that I can have my pizza. And then it just grew and evolved. It kept growing and became much larger than I had anticipated. This initial concept was not this big. But knowing

2016 TESLA MODEL 3

Base Price: $35,000 EPA Range: 215 miles per charge Est. tax credit: $7,500 Body Type: Sedan

MUSK'S STATE OF THE ART AFFORDABLE, ELECTRIC CAR IS FINALLY HERE ARTICLE DONALD HAWKINS PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF TESLA MOTORS

I

n 2006, Elon Musk published a blog post outlining his longterm vision for Tesla. At the time, Tesla was still two years away from delivering the first Roadster, the company’s first product.

“The strategy of Tesla is to enter at the high end of the market, where customers are prepared to pay a premium,” Musk said. “Then, we’ll drive down market as fast as possible to higher unit volume and lower prices with each successive model.” The base-level Tesla Model 3 will come standard with a rear-mounted single motor capable of launching the car from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in about six seconds. A high-performance dual-motor AWD configuration will also be offered, though Tesla has offered little in the way of performance stats for the car. Journalists who were offered the opportunity to ride in the car reported a high-performance feel that would be familiar to anyone who has been in a Tesla. Tesla announced the driving range in the Model 3 to be “at least 215 miles.” Achieving a 215-mile range will require a pack, most likely, of about 50 kilowatt-hours. Some analysts believe that Tesla is already approaching a cost of $200 per kWh, which would put the Model 3’s pack at around $10,000. Tesla’s longterm goal is to use mass production at its Nevadabased factory to bring the cost well below this level. 44

South Fulton Lifestyle | July 2016

Seats: 5 Features: Autopilot Hardware, Supercharging

A 240-volt Tesla home charging station costs $750, not including installation. We expect the Model 3 to use an on-board 10 kW charger, like its sibling vehicles. This means owners can add 30 or more miles of range for every hour of charging at home. With its sizable battery pack providing more than 200 miles of driving range—and the average commuter traveling about 40 miles per day—most drivers will find they have plenty of energy reserves on a daily basis. In terms of longer distance highway trips, Tesla offers its current vehicle owners free access to around 400 Supercharger sites in the United States. These high-speed fast-chargers are capable of bringing a Model S battery pack to 80 percent of capacity in about 40 minutes. This opens up new possibilities for interstate travel for many EV drivers. The Model 3 is slated to begin production in late 2017, but chances are you’ll be in for a much longer wait if you didn’t put down a $1,000 refundable deposit in the first hour after Tesla began accepting pre-orders. In just two weeks, Tesla registered more than 300,000 pre-orders—a level of interest that is truly unprecedented for a car that nobody has driven yet and barely seen. Elon Musk’s stated goal is 500,000 deliveries by 2020, though many analysts doubt this projection in light of how long it has taken to for Tesla to reach peak production capacity in the past—as well as the company’s dependency on reaching full production at its battery factory. TAKEOFF

WITH AUSTIN JACKSON LOCAL AUTHOR HELPS OTHERS REACH NEW HEIGHTS ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

K

nown as the Takeoff Boss, Austin Jackson is just an 18 year old student and one of the Top 20 Leaders in the State of Georgia (2014) and now one of the Chief Ambassadors on the SCLC’s next generation board (2016) who has a passion for flying. He’s had a dream of being a commercial airline pilot since his first flight at age 6. Austin was so determined to stop at nothing to make his dream become a reality that he wrote a book entitled, Takeoff: Seeing Beyond the Clouds, where his fictional characters take the reader on an adventure through the life of a young ambitious and driven pilot. Austin's overall message is "Takeoff into your destiny." He wants to make other people's dreams become a reality. With that in mind, he started a company, keeping the Takeoff theme, named “The Takeoff Superstore,” where he hires friends and exposes them to business, allowing them to take off into their destinies. He is constantly giving back to the community as a mentor to

local Atlanta students, but also financially. A percentage of his proceeds go to an organization called Sheltering Books that donates books to homeless shelters around the country, and sends them to our troops overseas. He is determined to help his peers learn how to take off and is starting an online community that he hopes to get into schools across the country. This summer he'll be speaking to youth all around the city on his motivational speaking tour called #Takeoff with the theme "Taking Off Like a Beast." When Austin was asked how it felt to accomplish so much at such a young age he replied, "It feels like a regular day. I am honored for the opportunities God has allowed me, and I just want to help people. So when people buy our Takeoff Books or items from the Takeoff Clothing Line, it allows us to help other people and supports nonprofits around the country.”
