Smart Style Investments with XAR Clothiers in Southlake Town Square
Investment by definition is the act of devoting time, effort, energy or finances to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result. We can invest in a lot of things such as our community, our relationships, our finances, and our health with the hope that the effort will have a positive impact. We can invest in our community by supporting our local businesses, schools and local organizations. We can serve the community through volunteerism and investment in future generations. On a larger scale, we can participate in public surveys and stay educated and involved with future city planning. Investing in our finances helps create wealth, meets longterm financial goals and secures our retirement. On a personal level, we can invest in our families and enrich relationships by giving time and effort to the people in our lives that mean the most to us. This type of investment has the most meaningful impact to not only ourselves but to the people closest to us.
While investing in ourselves, relationships, community and finances can look very different from person to person, the effort we put into these areas of our lives are done with the common goal of having a positive impact that yields results. In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the ways that we can invest in our community, our finances and with those that we love.

Southlake’s Saanvi Gullapalli is making waves in the world of finance at just 13 years old.
ARTICLE BY JENNIFER BROWN THOMAS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY RAVI GULLAPALLI
At just 13 years old, Southlake’s Saanvi Gullapalli is making waves in the world of finance—an industry where expertise often takes decades to develop. What sets her apart? A deep-rooted passion for the stock market, an insatiable curiosity, and wisdom beyond her years.
Saanvi’s journey began at eight, not in a classroom, but at home, sitting beside her father, Ravi Gullapalli, a hedge fund manager. She watched as he analyzed market trends and read The Wall Street Journal, absorbing every detail.
Her first investment? Amazon—a brand she observed coming in to her home often. That brand curiosity sparked a deeper interest in the market, turning weekends with her dad into a mix of strategy and bonding—analyzing stocks, discussing trends, and learning how the economy shapes investments.
"During the week, my dad is busy managing his hedge fund, but on weekends, we exchange stock strategies. He tells me what he’s investing in, I share my picks, and we discuss our plans for the week ahead," she shares.
Saanvi took a major step by opening her first custodial account with E*TRADE, which she still manages today. Preferring long-term investments, she focuses on wellknown brands. One of her biggest successes? Tesla. She bought shares in 2020 for $70 and sold them last November at $300—an impressive return for any investor, let alone one who hasn’t entered high school yet.
Her dedication extends beyond her portfolio. Saanvi shares weekly stock market updates on social media, engaging with a growing audience of young investors. Her Instagram (@saanvi_gullapalli) and X (formerly Twitter, @saanvi_stocks) accounts have become go-to sources for finance enthusiasts seeking fresh insights.
A recent highlight of her journey was an exclusive invitation to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). There, she met Scott Wapner and the Fast Money Halftime Report team, a show she watches religiously. "Watching it live was an amazing experience I will remember forever," she recalls.
Despite her growing success, Saanvi is still a well-rounded pre-teen. When she’s not analyzing stocks, she enjoys tennis, swimming, and baking—especially her favorite dessert, tres leches cake. She also cherishes time with her three-year-old brother, making Sundays family time.
As for her future? Saanvi has big dreams. She hopes to secure an internship at a major financial institution, attend Harvard to study finance, and eventually work alongside her father or launch her own hedge fund. She believes investing is a skill anyone can learn. “It’s never too early to start,” she says. “Warren Buffett says to invest in what you know, and I encourage that mindset.”
Her biggest lessons so far? “Never give up and never be greedy. I’ve made trades that weren’t successful, but that’s part of the journey.”
With her passion, discipline, and sharp instincts, Saanvi Gullapalli is proving that age is no barrier to success. Southlake’s young investing prodigy is just getting started, and the world of finance is taking notice.

After Bob Burckle sold his business and retired he started a new business with the Lord.
Imagine 2 million Bibles placed cover-tocover on a bookshelf – a trail that would stretch from the Dragon Stadium all the way to the Cowboys Stadium! This is how many Bibles and Bible-based materials my non-profit ministry distributed throughout Eastern Europe in 2024.
I am a longtime Southlake resident and serve as the president and CEO of Eastern European Mission (EEM), a ministry that publishes, prints and distributes literature through a vast network of partner churches and organizations free of charge in order share God’s Word with people of Eastern Europe and beyond, seeking to educate and inspire God’s servants in the Great Commission.
A snippet about me: I was involved in amateur radio from a young age. At the time, I found it interesting conversing with foreign citizens. Through my secondary education in engineering and business, I always thought about being able to provide hope and a moral ethos. In this, I
began to conceptualize my future, thinking, what can one person do?
Then, in 2000, I partnered with two friends from church to start Character for Kids, a non-profit with the purpose of teaching Biblical ethics to students. This program grew steadily over the years, training thousands of school teachers and impacting tens of thousands of students in Ukraine, Lithuania, Croatia and Russia.
As a result of this partnership and God’s divine path, in 2015 after retirement, I was asked to take a leadership position at EEM.
I am blessed to be here, serving others in a ministry that is changing the world, life by life, through the power of God’s Word.
EEM started over 60 years ago to deliver Bibles to Christians in Eastern Europe. From meager beginnings of only a few hundred books a year, EEM now delivers millions of books to individuals, families, youth camps, public schools, prisons, orphanages and hospitals in this region of the world.
To hear miraculous accounts of transformation, check out the 55:11 Podcast, detailing powerful testimonies of those changed by God’s Word. “
Eastern Europeans have turned to God’s Word for foundational hope. Results are growing church attendance, an openness to Bible education in public schools, and stories of transformed individuals and nations.
As co-residents of Southlake, you and I understand the impact of great schools. Likewise, EEM has partnered with the leadership in a number of these nations to reach their youngest generations, including in Ukraine, where approximately 75% of public schools now offer Bibles and elective Bible courses. Consequently, in the Ukrainian states where the Bible has been introduced and taught, test scores have increased, and disciplinary problems have decreased, ultimately changing the trajectory of these children’s lives for the better. EEM’s tagline encapsulates our vision: “The Bible, We Want Everyone to Get It!” We want to get it in their hands, then read it to get it into their minds, and finally, to get it written on their hearts to share with others.
God laid a vision on my heart for Eastern Europe all that time ago. That radically different perspective, where the gospel message is the costliest, moved me to actional
faith and spiritual camaraderie. The impact our Southlake supporters and partners have made in this global effort has been invaluable. Therefore, I urge you to also get involved—both locally and beyond—as churches, ministries and individuals work to provide Bibles to our community and around the world. Likewise, if you or your church are working in Eastern Europe or Central Asia, contact me if you need free Bibles and biblical literature to gift the Word of God to others.
Bob Burckle is President of EEM (Eastern European Mission), which has been delivering God’s Word to the people of Eastern Europe since 1961. Today, EEM publishes and prints Bibles and New Testaments as well as Teen Bibles, Children’s Bibles and coloring books, distributing them through a vast network of partner churches and organizations reaching 36+ countries in 32+ different languages.

The Alvord Desert is simultaneously simple and complex, stormy and calm, untouchable and embracing. It is a dry lakebed 12 miles long by seven miles wide located 260 miles southeast of Bend in the eastern shadow of the Steens Mountains. The desert never called out to me as it does for some. Friends told me that I was “missing out” when I didn’t join them at the Alvord for Burning Man-like weekends in the heat of the summer. It just didn’t seem like a place for me. It took the request of a quiet, introspective, gentle one to accompany him on an adventure to arguably his favorite place on Earth to get me to go. Through those eyes, I fell in love.
At the Alvord playa, I found a dome of stars the likes of which I’d never seen. The Milky Way shone full length and breadth with incredible clarity. I found freedom – complete freedom –to walk and dance and sing knowing no one would scare me or judge me or bother me. I found silence. I found that the playa was never the same, yet always what I was looking forward to
at the end of a long drive. I learned to listen for the sound of the lakebed drying – to notice the wide variety of patterns each cycle of damp and parch would create. I learned to pick a reference point on the Steens or Tule Springs Rim when I went for mileslong headphones-on mind-cleansing walks lest I become completely disoriented in the wide open.
My guide instilled in me a deep respect for the potential danger inherent in driving miles out into the middle of what is sometimes a shallow lake and most of the time a series of sun baked tiles. You can get impossibly stuck in the fine mud with no hope of a tow for hours and it’s often difficult to tell where solid ends and mud begins.
For me these days, the Alvord Desert is a regular several-times-yearly pilgrimage. Sometimes I arrive and the playa is inaccessible due to its current wish to become a lake again. Sometimes I hope for the most glorious night under the stars and there is cloud cover. Sometimes I’m reminded that, even though I can, I ought not drive CONTINUED >
Lenticular clouds provide a dramatic show over the desert.
at top speed because of the fragile lives –human and animal – that I may disrupt. I’m always glad I made the trip.
If you go, plan your trip around a stop at The Fields Station for gas, groceries, a burger and shake. Visit the Alvord Hot Springs, a spot for a wonderful soak with a killer view. Bring the kids to offer them a lesson in the power of nothingness. Let their senses acclimate to the pace and subtleties. The Steens are nearby for a completely different experience on a day trip. Bring along your common sense, your respect for nature and fellow humans, extra water, extra gas, your plan B, and, most importantly, your sense of wonder.

Wellness isn’t about restricting — it’s really about giving. Giving to yourself and to your body in a way that allows them both to thrive. The cool part? The things that give to your body naturally give to your mind, your hormones, your earth, your relationships, and so on — it’s all beautifully interconnected in that way.
Work in partnership with your body. Listen to it, support it, give to it, forgive it — and I promise it’ll give back. Repeat after me: I love myself as the most important and committed partner I will ever have
Eat your greens, cook at home, choose local produce and quality meats, don’t be scared of healthy fats — but also support local farmers, move in a way that makes your body and mind feel good, prioritize times of mindfulness and stillness, fuel your body in a way that is sustainable for both you and the planet, practice gratitude and empathy, give yourself grace when you lose routine, don’t try to make changes overnight, ditch the guilt, and always always be kind to yourself.

Boost your health by adding a generous serving of fresh greens to your daily diet. While both cooked and raw vegetables offer health benefits, consuming them raw often provides the most nutrients. Raw greens are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and essential vitamins, helping to lower inflammation and reduce the risk of disease.
Dandelion greens are a nutritious and easy addition to any meal, perfect for salads or cooked dishes. They are rich in vitamins A, C, K, chlorophyll, and fiber, making them a great choice for digestion and overall health. Their light flavor and texture enhance salads and sandwiches.
Broccoli is often hailed as a nutritional powerhouse, packed with a variety of vitamins and minerals that support overall health. Known for being high in vitamins A, C, and K, it also contains important minerals like potassium, iron, and calcium. In addition, it’s a rich source of beta-carotene, flavonoids, and fiber. Whether raw or cooked, broccoli is an excellent choice for immune system support, making it one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables available.

Brussels sprouts are a highly nutritious cruciferous vegetable, known for their vitamin C, K, and folate content, as well as carotenoids and fiber. These vegetables can be shaved, sliced, sautéed, boiled, or grilled, offering a range of flavors from mild to bitter, depending on preparation.
Kale is loaded with essential nutrients such as vitamins C, B6, E, K, and manganese. It contains twice as much selenium as spinach and is an excellent source of calcium. Kale’s unique properties help bind to cholesterol and lower oxalate levels, which promotes calcium absorption and makes it suitable for those prone to kidney stones. Additionally, it provides eye health benefits, thanks to lutein, and its disease-fighting properties make it a great addition to salads, smoothies, and more.
Artichokes are not only delicious but also packed with fiber, which aids in digestion. They are a great source of plant protein, potassium, and antioxidants like polyphenols. Artichokes also provide essential nutrients, including vitamins C, K, folate, magnesium, and B vitamins.
Asparagus is versatile and can be enjoyed grilled, sautéed, baked, or even raw. Packed with vitamins C, E, B, K, folate, and copper, it’s a great source of fiber. It also helps lower cholesterol and provides a variety of antioxidants that aid in healing. Asparagus is a perfect side dish that complements both light and robustly flavored meals.
Spinach is a popular green known for its mild flavor and impressive nutritional profile. Rich in vitamins A, C, K, as well as magnesium, potassium, and iron, spinach is great for overall health. It also provides antioxidants that support eye health and includes calcium for stronger bones. However, because spinach has a higher oxalate content, it should be consumed in moderation by those with a history of kidney stones.
