Among the most enchanting expressions of this festive season are the Christmas towns that spring to life with twinkling lights, festive decorations, and a sense of joy. These towns, often characterized by their quaint architecture, vibrant holiday markets, and community celebrations, create a unique atmosphere that draws visitors and residents alike into a season of holiday cheer.
The charm of Christmas towns lies in their ability to evoke a sense of magic and belonging during the holiday season. Through their enchanting visuals, vibrant community spirit, engaging activities, nostalgic traditions, and unique local flavors, these towns create an inviting atmosphere that captivates hearts. As people seek out these charming destinations, they not only find holiday cheer but also a renewed appreciation for the holiday season.

Visit Grapevine, the Christmas Capital of Texas, during the months of November, December, and January to attend many different holiday events. View millions of Christmas lights and decorations that adorn the city. Visit the Gaylord Texan to view ice sculptures and slides at the manmade ICE! display. Indulge in other Christmas-infused fun, such as the North Pole Express train ride.
Fredericksburg Wimberley Marshall
Christmas kicks off in this charming German town with a traditional Christmas market. However, that isn’t the only thing that makes Fredericksburg a Christmas town. Enjoy twinkling lights at the Chamber’s Light the Night Christmas Parade. Bring your chairs and blankets and watch the floats go down Main Street. EMPOWERING WOMEN AND HELPING CHILDREN IN GRAYSON COUNTY
JUNIOR LEAGUE OF GRAYSON COUNTY
The Junior League of Grayson County is an organization whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collabora-

tion, and training. They serve Grayson County by promoting volunteerism, and community service, and developing leaders for voluntary community participation. Their primary focus is providing for children who would otherwise go without food, clothing and other basic needs. You will find the Junior League of Grayson County partnering with other local organizations to meet the needs of the children of Grayson County.
Heather Shilling, current president of the Junior League of Grayson County, has been a member for six years and finds the work she does with the organization very meaningful. “Blessing children in need in our community is what we are here to do.”
In addition to Shilling, you will find many others that serve at the Bargain
community. It is a wonderful organization and I am so happy to be a part of it.”
Ellie Melson, also serving since 1976, is no stranger to volunteering. She says "Helping the homeless and the children is one of the most important things we can do." New member Tammy Johnson, a longtime community leader, is also thrilled to have an opportunity to volunteer in this organization. “Serving has always been in my heart. I feel like I want to make a difference and I love that we get to bless others.” Carolyn Stanphill remembers her mother serving the organization when it was the Denison Service League. She claims “I get a good feeling knowing I am helping people. It is a great feeling when someone comes in and knows you.”
Several programs are available and provide a much needed service for our
children and residents. The Prom Dress store provides multiple high schools the opportunity to shop for prom dresses at no cost. This program is in its fifth year and in 2024 provided 217 dresses and accessories such as shoes, jewelry, and evening bags. Happy Feet is a new program that was established at the beginning of this school year. This program has already provided over 120 pairs of namebrand shoes to DISD students who would not otherwise have adequate shoes.
The Junior League of Grayson County also partners with DISD DenTeens to provide a Christmas store for high school students. The League purchases and provides all of the items for the store and this can include a Christmas dinner for their families, gift cards, toiletries, shopping options for children to select gifts for family members and themselves. This year one hundred and fifty students from Denison High School will be eligible to access the Christmas Store.
Shilling wants to encourage Grayson County residents to consider volunteering or donating items and funds to help continue their mission. She states "It helps us to continue our passion of helping the needs of our children in Grayson County." The Junior League of Grayson County views every contribution they receive as much more than money. Donations of money and time help them to continue to empower local women and create a positive, lasting societal change in North Texas.

Making Spirits
JOIN OUR MISSION TO SPREAD WARMTH AND COMPASSION BY NOMINATING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES A CHRISTMAS BLESSING
“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way.”
As the Christmas season approaches, we’re reminded of the power of community and kindness. This year, through City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, The Kingdom Building Foundation, we will help people who may be struggling quietly without the support they need. But we need your help to find them.
Over the past three years, this campaign has grown into something truly beautiful, touching the lives of more than 150 families nationwide last year alone. Each year, we’ve seen firsthand how generosity can bring relief, hope, and a renewed sense of faith in others.
One person we had the opportunity to help was an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. After he had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery to remove his eye, his doctors recommended a prosthetic one, but insurance wouldn’t cover the cost, calling it “cosmetic.” When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. Because of this campaign, he got his prosthetic eye and a piece of his childhood back with it.
Another was a wife and mother of two who fought a yearlong health battle and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just days before Christmas, she underwent surgery but passed away due to complications. Before her surgery, she received one of our cards and, in tears, told us this gift gave her some peace, knowing her family would have help in the difficult times ahead. It wasn’t just about the financial support but knowing that someone cared.
These stories remind us why this campaign is so meaningful. It’s not just
about writing checks; it’s about telling people they aren’t forgotten and that someone is there to lend a hand. It’s about giving families a moment of relief when the world feels unbearable.
“We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
Together with Matthew Perry, President, Steven adds that the gratitude from recipients was overwhelming, affirming this tradition’s importance. “We believe God has blessed our company with success,” Matthew adds, “so we want to be a blessing to others.”
We know many more people could use a little help this Christmas, and that’s where you come in. Do you know someone who could use a blessing? We want to hear about them.
To nominate someone, scan the QR code or follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the form in our bio. Nominations are open from November 27 to December 10, 2024. Let’s bring hope to those who need it most.
The City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized. All entries will be read, and selections and the amount given to each recipient will be based on the severity of the need. For more information, visit KingdomBuildingFoundation.com .

CONFECTION
Elevate your holiday hot chocolate with a charcuterie experience
As winter settles in and the air chills, there’s nothing more comforting than a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Take it up a notch and indulge in a hot cocoa charcuterie board. Picture a delightful spread of various hot chocolate flavors, mix-ins, and toppings, inviting you to create a personalized, delicious mug of joy.
OLD-FASHIONED HOT COCOA
Ingredients
• ¼ cup 60% cacao chocolate morsels
• ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa
• 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
• 2 cups milk
• 2 cups half and half
• 1 pinch salt
• ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Directions
Heat all ingredients (except vanilla extract) in a 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat until almost boiling. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
CREATING THE PERFECT HOT COCOA CHARCUTERIE BOARD
Gone are the days of selecting only between marshmallows and whipped cream as toppings. With a hot cocoa charcuterie board, you can delve into a world of flavors, textures and spices that will make each sip an adventure.
Begin by selecting a variety of flavors and mix-ins, such as mini marshmallows, salted caramels, white chocolate morsels and peppermints. Pair your hot cocoa with delectable treats like cookies, gum drops, crème-filled wafer rolls or chocolate-covered espresso beans. Consider adding biscotti, chocolate-dipped spoons or chocolate-coated pretzels as well as whipped toppings and an assortment of sprinkles.
