THE SPIRIT OF RUGBY IN THE WOODLANDS COMMUNITY
“A rugby ball is not passed by a teammate, it is passed by a friend.”
Yes, This is Texas. This is football country and the gridiron reigns supreme. From Pop Warner, through high school, college, and up to our two NFL teams (Luv Ya Blue forever!). The fastest growing sport in both Texas and the US today though is rugby. When it comes to rugby, it should come as no surprise that The Woodlands has been setting the gold standard for decades!
Since 1983 the sport of rugby has been cultivating a thriving community. Founded by passionate individuals like John Cherrybone, Dave Jenkins, and others— many of whom were former players from Sam Houston State University—the club has evolved into a significant pillar of health, fitness, and camaraderie in the region.
Rugby's journey in The Woodlands has been marked by notable achievements, including the club's crowning as the Division Two National Champions in 2001. Such accomplishments have inspired
generations of players and have helped solidify rugby's presence in the area.
With a focus on both competitive excellence and community involvement, The Woodlands Rugby Football Club, WRFC has cultivated a culture that values hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship.
One of the most remarkable aspects of rugby in The Woodlands is its commitment to youth development. The Woodlands Youth Rugby Club, a crucial component of WRFC, has seen significant growth since the establishment of its youth leagues in 2008. With over 100 new kids expected to join for the 2024-2025 season—thanks in large part to the recent successes of the Olympic Team -it's clear that rugby is becoming increasingly popular among our young athletes.
The teams have produced quite a lot of talent as well. The club has proudly seen 16 boys transition to collegiate rugby
“The only trophy we won this day was the blood and sweat we left on the pitch....and it was enough.”
programs, highlighting its role as a stepping stone for aspiring players.
One of these players, Connor Devos, is currently a Senior playing for Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. While reminiscing about his formative years here, Devos was appreciative of the entire community. “The Woodlands Rugby Youth Club taught me to be disciplined and have a strong work ethic. This has stayed constant and helped me further my development in rugby and in life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the club, coaches, and brotherhood of teammates that drove me to become better each and every week”.
A sentiment that resonates with his favorite moment, “My most memorable experience was winning the state championship for the first time my sophomore year. The joy and happiness that I received from embracing my dad and teammates was special knowing that all of our hard work had paid off”.
In addition to those young men, the local program produced the sibling duo of Orrin and Meya Bizer. Their impressive achievements on and off the field not only highlight their individual talents but also exemplify the spirit of teamwork that rugby embodies.
The Bizer siblings are not only talented athletes but also symbols of the growing rugby culture in The Woodlands. Their dedication to the sport, combined with their impressive accomplishments, are inspiring countless young players in the community. Orrin and Meya both emphasize the importance of hard work, resilience, and teamwork—values that are central to rugby and instrumental in their success.
Orrin Bizer has carved out an impressive path in rugby. Currently a member of the US Men’s National Team, (Orrin was originally
drafted as a forward for the Houston SaberCats, our professional team in Major League Rugby). His talent was recognized early on when he was drafted as the 9th pick in the first round of the 2023 MLR Collegiate Draft, a significant achievement that speaks to his potential in the sport.
Orrin’s career highlights include winning the 2023 Prusmack Award, a prestigious honor that acknowledges his outstanding performance and contributions to the game. Rugby’s equivalent of The Heisman Trophy, as his sister proudly points out on his behalf. The younger Bizer is also a two-time USA Rugby 7’s Collegiate Champion, having secured titles in 2022 and 2023. During his high school years with The Woodlands, he showcased his prowess by winning the 2019 Texas State Championship, establishing himself as a formidable player.
His accolades don’t end there; Orrin was selected for the Mid-South All-Conference First Team and earned recognition as a 2023 D1A First Team All-American.
Orrin Bizer represented the USA Men's Rugby Seven's Team in the Paris Summer Olympics 2024. He represented the United States on the world stage. The Woodlands City Lifestyle is proud to highlight this wonderful accomplishment and athlete.
Meya Bizer’s rugby journey is nothing short of remarkable. After back-to-back State Championships for The Woodlands in 2010 and 2011, Meya continued as a collegiate player for Penn State and won 7 National Championships with her teams there (4 15’s and 3 7’s titles from 2013- 2017). Meya was also named a “Four Time First Team All American” during her tenure.
Following Penn State she was a part of the 7’s residency program for 6 years from 2015-2021 at the United States Olympic Training Center (where her brother Orrin is currently contracted).
As a standout professional player, she has represented the United States on numerous prestigious stages. Notably, she was named to the 2016 Olympic Games in rugby sevens as a travel reserve. Unfortunately due to a torn ACL only 3 days before departure she was unable to go and showcase her skills on an international platform.
Coaching also seems to be a talent for Meya. After coaching a collegiate team to a National Championship for Dartmouth she is now home giving back to the rugby community as a coach for the girls' team at The Woodlands Rugby Football Club. According to some of the other coaches, her coaching style reflects her own experiences as a player, instilling a sense of discipline, teamwork, and passion in her athletes. “Meya is not just a role model for aspiring rugby players; she is a testament to the impact of hard work and dedication”.
Rugby in The Woodlands is designed to be inclusive, catering to boys and girls in grades 1-12 from school districts across Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery, Klein, Tomball,
Ami Kratt and Melanie Devos for bringing my attention to all the wonderful people in The Woodlands that make this sport so wonderful. A great big shout out to thank President Phil Devos and Coach Colton Pederson for their devotion to the sport of rugby and sharing all of their love, expertise, talent, mentoring and knowledge with the men who are playing for fun or going to the next level. A very special thank you to President Mandy Scharffenorth of The Woodlands Youth Rugby Team who coordinated this story for us. Her dedication has led her to partner with friends and Rugby elites and open D-1 Training to encourage youth sports training.
Registration is now open for 2025 Rugby Season
and Spring. The club operates as a multischool club sport, competing in both the Texas Youth Rugby Association (TYRA) and the Texas High School Rugby Conference (THSRC). This structure not only allows for diverse participation but also fosters a sense of community among players from different backgrounds.
The Woodlands Rugby Club actively engages with the local community, organizing events and outreach activities that promote the sport and encourage participation among residents. This commitment to community engagement not only strengthens the bonds between players and their families but also contributes to the overall health and fitness of the community.
Participating in rugby offers numerous physical benefits, from improved
cardiovascular health to enhanced strength and agility. The sport demands teamwork and fosters a sense of belonging, making it an ideal activity for building both physical fitness and social connections. As players hit the pitch, they develop not only athletic skills but also important life skills, such as leadership, resilience, and sportsmanship.
Rugby in The Woodlands, Texas, is more than just a sport; it’s a vibrant community that champions health, fitness, and personal development. With a legacy deeply rooted in excellence, a strong focus on youth engagement, and an inclusive environment, The Woodlands Rugby Football Club continues to inspire individuals of all ages to embrace the sport. As rugby continues to grow in popularity, it promises to remain a cornerstone of the community, nurturing future generations of players and fostering a love for the game that extends beyond the pitch.

LEARN THE BEST WAYS TO GRASP YOUR HEALTH THIS YEAR WITH HEALTH AND WELLNESS EXPERTS
“WHEN WE HEAR THE PATIENT AND TRULY UNDERSTAND THEIR STORY, THE DIRECTION BECOMES CLEAR AND THE SOLUTIONS APPARENT.”
— DR. STEPHEN CLOUTHIER
To start the health and wellness journey, I had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Stephen Clouthier, DC, IFMCP, owner of Alternative Health Center of The Woodlands. Dr. Clouthier is a Doctor of Chiropractic and is a certified Functional Medicine practitioner through the Institute for Functional Medicine. He also holds a chiropractic acupuncture permit.
With a holistic approach to healing, Dr. Clouthier aims to truly understand his patients and get to the root of the patient’s concerns. He does so by treating the whole person such as considering the body’s structure, nutritional needs, and emotional health. When talking to Dr. Clouthier, it is incredibly refreshing to hear about his passion for helping his patients as well as how knowledgeable he is within his field. In fact, he loves to stay up-to-date on the latest scholarship within the medical field by constantly reading and familiarizing himself with what’s new. He believes in treating patients of all ages in order to create a welcoming atmosphere for the entire family.
Through his practice, Dr. Clouthier looks at the bigger holistic picture and then starts piecing together what may be occurring. For those who are trying to gain power over their health, Dr. Clouthier recommends coming in for a consultation. Because he strives to get to know you and your concerns about your body, he takes the time to create thorough notes and listen while you describe concerns and thoughts regarding your body. It’s always a goal of Dr. Clouthier to hear your story and understand you to the point where he can relay your story back to you. From there, he is able to gather enough information to create a plan of action whether it be a functional food plan to pinpoint specific inflammatory sites or finding specific
• If unsure, visit a doctor to discuss potential underlying health problems

structural problems that can be helped with body adjustments. He even looks at the emotional and mental health side with NET, Neuro Emotional Techniques, which can help with unraveling “stuck” emotions that cause stress and built-up tension.
A unique aspect of Dr. Clouthier’s practice is his belief that most people can live a happy and healthy drug-free, and procedure-free life with the right guidance. His practice uses whole food nutrition and herbal and homeopathic remedies such as Standard Process, Medi Herb, Designs for Health, and Bezwecken to help patients achieve their optimum health.
As a result, he has built a reputation over the past 25 years in The Woodlands community as the go-to professional for families seeking a natural approach to health. His practice even won best functional medicine in The Woodlands in 2022. Patients are not limited to the homeopathic approach as they can choose the service that best suits their needs whether it’s Functional Medicine, chiropractic care, acupuncture, or a combination of these for a comprehensive healthcare experience. Dr. Clouthier’s staff strives to create a warm, inviting atmosphere in the office to ensure the comfort of every patient. This, combined with Dr. Clouthier’s commitment to each patient’s health ensures that you will be in excellent hands!
Next, is Arden Janke who has been a trainer at The Woodlands Country Club for six months, yet brings so much life and knowledge to her clients. Having obtained her personal gym license at 22, she has learned an abundance of tips and tricks to share!
Arden’s most highly recommended tip is to prioritize recovery and posture through restful sleep, stretching and being aware of correct body posture such as the way we sit, stand, and move. “We put our body through so much. It needs time to recover” says Arden. Probably one of the worst things is incorrect body posture. Not only does bad posture create problems in the future, but it hurts your body’s structure which hurts the way it functions. Slouching and leaning over the phone is harmful because of how heavy the head is and all that weight harms the neck and back. To help, Arden recommends doing bridges which help to stretch out the body and fix the posture.
While posture and stretching is super important, what goes into the body is also extremely important! “What you put in you is making you” and it becomes your fuel. Arden’s tips when shopping for food is to shop the perimeter of the store where you’ll find your fresh fruits, veggies and proteins. Avoiding canned foods and overly processed foods will do wonders for the body!
Aside from diet, keep yourself moving and build muscle. While fixing all unhealthy habits will not happen in one day, the results of a healthier body are well worth the journey! Overall, Arden stresses going back to the basics of life: real food, deep, restful sleep, and moving in the sunshine!
Our final health and wellness expert, Vikki LaBeau, has an empowering story that proves how far taking control of your health can go!
Right before Vikki was to have a consultation regarding bariatric surgery, she was introduced to a low fat and low carb program where CONTINUED >
she was properly taught about weight-loss and how to take hold of and actually keep off the weight. While in this program, Vikki learned that she had Metabolic Syndrome. Because she finally had an answer, Vikki was ready to help others find answers as well!
As the owner and clinic director of TLD: Teach. Learn. Dedicate, Vikki has made a huge impact on the community. Not only has she taken hold of her life, she’s helped countless others get in control of their health. Once opening the doors in 2015, Vikki was able to successfully coach clients on how to live well, lose weight, and to keep the weight off. She also offers a DNA kit with their Genetics Action Plan to help specifically tailor nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle to each individual person’s genetic composition.
Vikki’s story doesn’t end there! Before creating a safe place to help clients achieve their health and weight goals, Vikki was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. Through this diagnosis, she realized that she didn’t want to poison herself with countless chemo treatments and that she could fix her health without treatment. Because of her countless prayers and her exceptional journey, Vikki felt led to write a book about her cancer journey called Cancer Deception: Lean into the Message Behind the Truth where she elaborates on the medical professional’s urgency to get medical treatment immediately.
Vikki’s outlook on health and wellness changed how she viewed the world. “It really pushed me to lean into the messages that I was receiving from God and the people I surrounded myself with that teach healing, instead of destroying!” Vikki’s goal is to share her story and continue to help people achieve their ultimate weight-loss goals!

START WITH GREEN AND BRING LIFE INTO YOUR SPACE WITH PLANTS
“Even a green houseplant from the grocery store is distinctive and different in the house. The plant will stay alive.”
– Ann Engelbrecht
In January, bringing something living into your space, something green, brings new life into your home. Ann Engelbrecht, founder of Sprout Fine Floral Concepts makes some recommendations.
“While nothing can compare to a Christmas tree, even a green houseplant from the grocery store is distinctive and different in the house”, Ann says. “The plant will stay alive versus flower arrangements and will thrive through February for Valentine’s season. Fresh flowers will only last upwards of one week.”
However, when in the market for floral arrangments, Ann recommends buying loose fresh flowers. Use multiple small vases to create an apothecary-style vibe. She shared it’s a popular trend right now to use different flowers for pops of color in a group of vases, making the heights different to keep it interesting.
The windows and airflow determine where you place plants. The optimum space is near natural light and not in direct airflow of the heat. Don’t have a green thumb and often kill plants? No worries. Ann reminds us that you are not responsible for the longevity of plant life. Enjoy it and kill it like everybody else, she says cheerfully laughing.
“Look at what we will pay for a live Christmas tree for the timespan of six weeks for example. Nobody cries over poinsettias when you throw them in the trash. Get something funky that you have not seen to enjoy. It’s a plant, not a pet,” Ann shares.
Plant and flower aesthetics fulfill a visual need. For some, opting for artificial flowers or dried flowers is a preference. Others prefer nurturing a plant.
Ann’s passion for floral design began in her childhood when she got in trouble for picking flowers – especially her neighbor’s bulb plants that only bloom once a year, and Ann picked them all!
After working in a traditional office after her business school education, she knew she was not working in her design element. When a friend’s mom needed help in her flower shop, Ann rolled up her sleeves and became a delivery driver 35 years ago. From there, her curiosity grew and the two women taught her how to make arrangements. She found wonderful mentors along the way that shared their knowledge and Ann grew from being a helper, to assistant designer, to designer.
Being inquisitive with a love for learning and wanting to educate herself further, Ann attended Texas A&M under the tutelage of Jim Johnson, one of her biggest inspirations. She joined professional florist organizations and was even on the Board of Directors and grew through that experience, and early on, TeleFlora. She kept learning and gaining certifications in the industry. After freelancing for six years, Ann accumulated so much knowledge, she knew she wanted to continue her trajectory forward in The Woodlands.
In 1998, Ann opened Society Stem for seven years until she felt burned out, then retired and sold the thriving business. During that time Ann was George Mitchell’s personal florist and the entire production for the Woodlands 25th Anniversary Gala. At the time, the Woodlands Conference Center was the main event

facility, and she decorated every inch from the Glass Menagerie, the ballroom, a huge endeavor with her team.
Around 2005, after Ann sold her shop and retired – she missed her flowers. She was praying about what was next for her. She did some freelancing and recalls that God kept sending her the scriptures: “I know the desires of your heart”, but that was not as clear cut as Ann had hoped. Everywhere she went, she heard songs about it, saw scripture, greeting cards and she knew it was not a coincidence but the Holy Spirit. Her spouse encouraged her to do what makes her heart happy.
Ann opened Sprouts Fine Floral Concepts based on the scripture from Job 14:7. Just as a tree has hope and will resprout and grow again, Ann knew that was her life story. Shortly after, she named the flower shop Sprout. She opened it under a different business model and wanted to maintain balance. Ann only called on 16 of her former clients to announce the news, and that was 17 years ago. Since then, Ann keeps no office hours, she caters to her calendar and her client’s timeline with her boutique studio expertise. 90 percent of her orders are virtual orders via the internet or telephone.
Sprout has won multiple local awards since their opening, and it is no surprise Sprout has rave reviews in the industry for their extravagant floral creations. Ann and the team even gained notoriety during the pandemic being on national television for placing floral arrangements on The Woodlands parks art. Ann certainly has bloomed where she was planted and is living out her passion.

As “eating good” starts to more closely align with “eating well,” some local restaurants are redefining dining by blending vibrant, nutrition-packed ingredients with creative, mouth-watering flavors to offer some positive and refreshing options. Whether you’re a dedicated health enthusiast or simply looking to make smarter food choices in the new year, there’s a growing number of great choices to tickle your tastebuds.
Nezi Whiteman, owner of Eat This, a self-described ‘grab-andgo-eatery’ which opened this past year at 442 Sawdust Road, understands on a personal level the importance of knowing what exactly is in the food she eats. Diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and osteoarthritis, it is critical she avoid the processed foods of the standard American diet and any ingredient that can cause inflammation.
“We make everything from scratch with fresh ingredients in a gluten-free kitchen: no seed oils, no butter, no wheat flour, and no fryers. We make our own dressings, our own teriyaki, and we use actual pumpkins for our pumpkin cheesecake. Not out of a can,” she said. “All our chef-crafted meals are designed with a purpose and are based on macros to be higher in protein and lower in fat and carbohydrates.”
The Eat This menu offers tempting options from tacos and gluten-free pastas to salads and the comfort foods and desserts we all crave. Each entrée is sizeable enough for two people or one hearty appetite and is packaged in containers that are microwave and oven safe and fully compostable.
“We’re here for busy, on-the-go people who still want to stay healthy,” said co-owner Jason Viada. “Health food can still have great taste and not break your bank or your waistline.” Because most of the Eat This meals require some reheating, there is no additional sales tax on the already very affordable price.
Order online through their website EatThisTheWoodlands.com and choose delivery or stop by their store to pick out and pick up the answer to the “What’s for dinner (or lunch)?” question.

applied her background in biology and a scientist’s mind to them.
“In 2016 I started dabbling in sourdough starter. It’s a living thing that will either give you a great sense of confidence or make you question your place in the world,” she laughed. “Sourdough takes a lot of science, but it’s easy when you understand it. That’s where I geek out!”

Because of the natural fermentation process, which is markedly longer with Knead Me breads, sourdough promotes improved gut health through a combination of probiotics and prebiotic fiber. It also has a lower glycemic index than regular breads which can help regulate blood sugar levels.
“We have a very specific process of 48-hour cold fermentation and only use eggs from pasture-raised, free-range happy hens, unbleached flours and old-fashioned oats,” Kristy explained. “Because of this process, many people who are gluten-intolerant can eat our

Along with regular sourdough, Knead Me is also baking up Scottish scones, cinnamon rolls, cookies, crackers and granola. Loaves of whole wheat, English white, Italian herb and rosemary, among others, are coming out of the ovens. All pair beautifully with their freshly brewed coffee. They even have starters available,
born from Gary, the starter they’ve cultivated for over nine years, for those who also need to knead.
Self-confessed of being “on a simple, soul-satisfying mission to serve positively delicious vibes,” Flower Child restaurant, located in the Lake Woodlands Crossing shopping center at 1900 Lake Woodlands Drive, caters to the full spectrum of healthy lifestyles from vegetarian and vegan, to meat-eating and gluten-free to keto and paleo. Their menu of bowls, wraps, salads and a variety of mix-and-match veggies, grains, fruits and healthy proteins distinguishes them as more than the typical healthy eatery and more of a place to fill your soul (and your belly) with goodness.
“We try to source as much produce as possible from local growers. Our produce partners always seek to supply us with products as close as possible to the region a particular store is in,” said Flower Child’s Regional Chef. “We also need to search globally for other great products. For example, our grass-fed beef comes from a farm in Australia; our yuzu juice is sourced from Japan, and our heirloom beans originate in South America.”
As the demand for clean dining options has increased, he points out that Flower Child works hard to accommodate dietary needs and preferences by tweaking and changing whenever possible to remain a great option for everything from date night to crowd-pleasing family meals.
Eating well doesn’t have to mean sacrificing taste. From farm-to-table fare to plant-based innovations, it’s becoming easier—and more delicious—than ever to nourish both body and soul.

These efforts are part of their vision to empower healthier living for all through a fusion of art and science.
THE PILLARS OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDE ARTS, MEDICINE AND CULTURE.
The arts include various branches of creative expression such as visual art, sound, and movement. In this context, art serves as a powerful tool for communication, storytelling, and emotional expression, creating space for guests to explore their inner worlds or outward healing.
Bridging the Gap Between Art and Health
ARTICLE BY JO HAMMON | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
The Medicine pillar explores how arts and cultural activities act as a form of medicine, promoting healing, resilience, and connection. By collaborating with medical practitioners and fostering trust in healthcare, we aim to create experiences that address health more holistically through mental, physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Culture reflects the shared traditions, values, and experiences that shape community health. By looking to the past and modern traditions to explore shared customs, we can explore the deeper meanings behind health, healing, and the broader human experience.

Painting has always been a way for me to record memories, like a visual journal. I love to take photos as part of the process, for colors and compositions, feelings and the essence of the moment. Sometimes my photos say enough without their elements being translated into paintings, and I enjoy them for what they are. I don’t usually share my photos but am delighted that 3 have been selected for “The Big Show” at Lawndale Art Center, Houston, it’s the 40th Exhibition which makes it even more special! These photos of reflections of trees in water offer a new persperctive and were taken around The Woodlands area.

RECONNECTION THROUGH REFOCUS, JOURNALING AND PLANTING
January has traditionally been a time to build dreams and dreams are definitely alive and well at Garden Marcus. Amid the rows of their bountiful winter garden, resplendent with blooming pea pod plants, peppers, and trailing vines that form a cathedral like ceiling, the most sustainable ingredient Marcus and Dana Bridgewater have grown is an awareness for the connection between nature and man.
Never has that grounding tenet been more important. As a new father of now 16-month-old Imriel, Bridgewater works side by side with his son. “Imriel loves to be outside and so wants to be helpful,” Marcus says, “Imriel brings me tools I don’t need at that moment but at some point in the near future, he’ll be telling me what to plant. He’s already done so many things that inspire me.”
“My son reminds me that life moves very quickly. He’s gone from barely crawling to doing jumping jacks. I compartmentalize my time so that I’m with him every moment possible. I take more time to record and center my thoughts.”
Bridgewater moved to The Woodlands in 2015 at age 27 to work at the private John Cooper School. In his first book, “How to Grow: Nurture Your Garden, Nurture Yourself,” (HarperOne, 2022) he shared that he took the new position for these reasons: “It was a job I saw as an opportunity to empower students with skills that will last a lifetime. That job made me do something I had not done before – settle. I bought a house and committed to living in one place after years of traveling every few months.

That was the beginning of a reverence and delight in gardening that residents in The Woodlands have embraced. In the township of The Woodlands, some people exceed the late millionaire Howard Hughes’ daily expense tally of $176K on breathtaking gardens. The joy of gardening is that it costs very little to get started and it’s possible to grow a garden that complements evolving needs.
“We maximize our potential when presented with the right conditions,” says Bridgewater in his first book, “How to Grow, Nurture Your Garden, Nurture Yourself (HarperOne, 2022). “The primary difference between us and our plants is we must choose to focus on our growth. Plants do it instinctively. Unlike plants, we are liable to become distracted, and shift our focus away from our growth. Our agency can be a tool or a vice. It’s up to us. I brought these lessons to my classroom and watched my students prosper.
on me that I did for my plants what I’d done for myself all my life. Spending time in my garden slowed me down, enabling me to reflect on my past and the lessons I’d learned along the way.”
His second book, Seasons of Growth: A Journal for Well-being Inspired by Trees, debuted in September of 2024. “We’ve gotten amazing feedback,” says Bridgewater. I wrote it because I want to encourage people to see all the connections between themselves, nature and the Earth.”
“One lesson changed how I would ever think about growth–we cannot make anything grow but we can foster environments where life wants to grow.”
Also in the book, he says, “One lesson changed how I would ever think about growth–we cannot make anything grow but we can foster environments where life wants to grow,” he shares in his first book. “Growth cannot be forced, only nurtured. As much as I wanted to see every plant in my care flourish, I realized it would only happen if I paid attention. It later dawned
As far as plans for a Cliff’s Notes shorter collection of quotes in the future, he says, “So yes, I do feel I’m in a very unique place and poised in a unique way. We’ve created the engine and I can’t wait to create a bridge between the people on the train and the forest.”
Bridgewater is strategic about how and when he plants. The quiet moments with his son allow for deeper reflection and a synchronicity with the freedom to dream. “Instead of preparing new plants right now for early 2025, I have been focused on tidying up the garden and tending to what we already have growing,” he says. “We decided we would not get any new plants or prepare any new seeds, bulbs until the cold passes so we could do some TLC to the space and be set up for future success.”
His world has expanded from the township of 120,000, reaching more than one million social
media followers with his life lessons. He has also expanded his footprint from The Woodlands. “A project I’m working on south of Houston in Brazoria County is the Harvest for the Hungry, building a healing garden on farmland,” says Bridgewater.
For spring gardens, he advocates sustainable gardening for those wanting to grow their own vegetables/herbs in our area. Herbs like cilantro, parsley, dill, mint, lavender and rosemary that will be ready for spring harvest do well in our area. Lettuce, spinach and other greens are just weeks from the salad bowl.
“There is joy to be found in every seed we plant,” he says.
