Nicki, thanks again to you and Darrell for all your help in decorating our home on the bay! We were so relieved to have walked into your store after searching everywhere in Southwest Florida for quality coastal furnishings at an affordable price! You and Darrell listened to our thoughts, looked at pictures of our space and made suggestions that were perfect. Your flare for coastal design, quality product and excellent service has made our house a home. SUMMERTIME IS A MAGICAL SEASON. The kids are out of school, the sunshine seems never-ending and there’s no shortage of adventures that await. For many, summer evokes fond memories of childhood—sleepaway camp, family vacations and swimming until your fingers shriveled like prunes. We also celebrate our nation’s independence, host parties for our friends and family and, if we’re lucky, take a scenic road trip. Summer in our region is unique because our beaches and waterways aren’t as crowded as during the rest of the year, the roads are quieter, and it’s a great time to go shopping and dining with plenty of summertime specials. In this issue of Venice Lifestyle, we want to highlight why summer in Venice is a season of opportunity. When’s the last time you played tourist in your own hometown? Our feature on the sports professionals at the wonderful Boca Royale Golf and Country Club gives tips on how to best enjoy golf, tennis and fitness even in the summer heat. In our Driver’s Notebook section, make sure to check out the gorgeous new Boston Whaler 350 Realm powerboat, on offer at Venice’s MarineMax.

With so much to see and do this month, we only scratched the surface of what Venice has to offer—but we hope this issue gets you off to a good start. Happy exploring, Venice. We hope to see you around!

SPORTS PROS OFFER INSIDER TIPS FOR ENJOYING THE FACILITY IN THE SUMMER HEAT
“IN THE SUMMER,” SAYS IAN FETIGAN, GENERAL MANAGER OF BOCA ROYALE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB, “HALF OF OUR RESIDENTS DISAPPEAR. If you are local, summer is the best time to try our facility.” Having grown from just under 300 homes five years ago to almost 650 today, Boca Royale is one of our area’s fastest growing golf and country club communities. Eventually, there will be a total of 1,200 homes here. Non-residents are always welcome, Ian says, and Boca Royale offers non-resident memberships, including special summer memberships that include social, fitness, racquets and golf. “Anyone can pay to play golf here year-round,” Ian explains, “but in the summer, there is daylight until 9 p.m. and so many more opportunities to play. Aside from our wonderful course, we offer six Har-Tru Classic Green Clay tennis courts, four pickleball courts and a full fitness center with all-new cardio equipment. In the summer, guests can enjoy all we have to offer in a relaxed environment. Novice golfers who are intimidated by golf won’t have a foursome bearing down on them.” The summertime, Ian says, is also a great time to get to know Boca Royale’s exceptional sports professionals.

Ed McConnell BOCA ROYALE HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL AND DIRECTOR OF GOLF
A graduate of Penn State, Ed learned the game from his father, a military man, and has been playing ever since he was 5 years old, roughly 55 years now. Grandfather of four and a PGA member since 1986, Ed’s strengths are keeping the ball in play, his short game, the tournament mindset and being a tough competitor. Manager of all golf operations at Boca Royale, Ed loves his course, his members and teaching. “I teach individuals, give clinics in the short game, the full swing,” Ed explains. “We offer a comprehensive program in golf, beginner to advanced. The challenge is always trying to find new ways to communicate golf ideas.” ED’S TIPS FOR SUMMER GOLF “People have a misconception about when to play,” Ed says. “They go early in the morning when the humidity levels are off the charts. But afternoon is a great time to play because the breezes come up. Definitely wear some head cover and light-colored clothes. I really play a lot in the summer.”

Father to two daughters and married to Kay for 32 years, Pancho has been a tennis pro at private clubs all over the States. Ten years ago, he landed at Boca Royale. “This is the best club I have ever worked for,” Pancho says. “The members we have here love to be here, and they are proud of their club. The best friends of my life I have made here at Boca.” Pancho teaches private lessons, group lessons, clinics and juniors. Pancho’s inspirations include tennis greats Ilie Nastase, Yannick Noah, John McEnroe and Ken Rosewall. PANCHO’S TIPS FOR SUMMER TENNIS AND PICKLEBALL “In the summer, you’d think you’d play early in the morning, but that’s not true,” Pancho says. “The Gulf breezes start around 9:30–10:00 a.m. Never play before that. The crosswind can really keep things cool. We have fans to cool you down courtside at the changeovers, and afterward, there’s our amazing resort pool.”

New to Boca Royale, Jill and her husband, Jim, recently moved to the area from Illinois, where she ran a wellness center for Archer Daniels Midland. “We were visiting family here, we liked the area and not having winter,” Jill says. “We decided to make the move now as opposed to later in life. Boca Royale needed some new fitness/wellness classes, and things have just worked out.” With a degree in accounting and an MBA, Jill worked in the corporate world for seven years, always teaching fitness on the side, before deciding that fitness was her passion. “I have been a full-time fitness instructor for 11 years,” Jill says. “I love helping people reach their fitness goals.” JILL’S TIPS FOR SUMMER FITNESS “During season, my classes were bursting at the seams,” Jill says. “Now with summer here, there’s more room to move around, and you’re not Jill DeMarco, Boca Royale fitness/wellness director

DESIGN YOUR SPACES THIS SUMMER FOR THE GUESTS WHO WILL VISIT THIS WINTER
More Space Place Offers Innovative Designs for Multi-functional Rooms ARTICLE TONY D’SOUZA
EVERYONE LOVES TO VISIT US IN OUR GORGEOUS WINTER MONTHS. That’s why optimizing our living spaces is the ultimate summer project. In Florida, many of us have downsized from the big homes we lived in during our careers and child-rearing years. More Space Place offers elegant solutions to maximizing the smaller living spaces we now enjoy. Murphy beds and other space-saving solutions have come back into style, and More Space Place is the leader in this sphere, where utilitarian design meets elegance. Creative and attuned to its clients’ demands for beauty, comfort and aesthetic style, More Space Place can transform a home office or spare bedroom into a signature guest suite. “People are recalling the Murphy bed,” says More Space Place’s Bob Barthman, winner of the 2017 Top Shelf Award for home design. “But now, we are creating with computer-aided design. Our free consultation includes a visit to your home. We measure, ask a lot of questions, and then come back to the design studio. We create a 3D picture of what your space can become, offer you so many options for making the space what you want it to be.” MORE SPACE PLACE 3906 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota 941.927.0807, MoreSpacePlace.com 28

will take me fishing, too.” Chris enjoys fishing fresh and saltwater and using lures. Some of his favorites lures are produced by companies like Rapala, Yo-Zuri, D.O.A. and Bomber. “My favorite place to fish is the closest place you can get to that’s got fish,” he says. “It’s important to figure out what the fish are eating and match your lure to that. The greatest thing about fishing in Florida is you never know what you are going to catch. Every outing’s exciting.”

NOT JUST A NUMBERS GIRL Her role model, her mother, worked in health and had a heart for people. Christy Purser also has a love and passion for people but sees herself as a “numbers” girl. Wanting to have that same impact on others as she saw her mother having and knowing that an individual’s financial “health” can be just as important, Christy started THE PURSER GROUP, a full service tax and accounting firm offering tax preparation and planning, business and financial planning, and accounting and payroll services. With so much fear and uncertainty when it comes to finances, Christy works with many people, especially women, who feel a lot of stress when they think about finances and taxes. It can be very overwhelming but she provides peace of mind so they have one less thing to worry about! Leaving a job with a steady, reliable income, Christy relied on God for the courage and strength to overcome her fears and strike out on her own - and hasn’t looked back! She feels blessed to have the clients she does and considers them like family. As they refer others to her, Christy’s “family” continues to grow! Interested in more:

Suffering from fibromyalgia pain for years, Judy Braham became intrigued when a company that she has purchased essential oils from launched a revolutionary new product – a full-spectrum, hemp-derived, transdermal CBD oil patch. Judy purchased some patches for her and her husband to try and was thrilled!
