At the heart of All Seasons West Bloomfield , a luxury independent senior living community, lies something even more extraordinary than its refined design or world-class amenities: its people.
Residents and staff alike create a sense of home that is palpable and profound—a place where life’s golden years are celebrated and enriched.
When you speak to Leslee Poegel, Director of Sales and Marketing, her passion for the community is unmistakable.
“This isn’t just a job for me,” she says. “It’s a calling. Every day, I wake up excited to make a difference in the lives of our residents.”
That philosophy is woven into every interaction at All Seasons. Team members are part of a family dedicated to creating an environment where residents feel valued and supported.
New residents, for example, are greeted with warmth and intention from the moment they arrive. The Ambassador Program pairs them with longtime residents to ease the transition, helping to create immediate connections and a sense of belonging.
“We’re all about building relationships,” Leslee explains. “Every resident is unique, and we honor that by tailoring our service and attention to their individual needs.”
As you might expect, life at All Seasons is defined by the vibrancy of its people. Residents come together not only to live but to thrive, sharing experiences that elevate every moment.
Driving this spirit is Molly Ellenberger, Director of Life Enrichment, who designs a robust calendar of activities that feels less like a schedule and more like a carefully curated lifestyle.
“Our residents aren’t passive participants,” she smiles. “They’re actively engaged in shaping the life of this community.”
Whether attending a university lecture, joining a card tournament or enjoying live performances from acclaimed musicians and entertainers, residents are encouraged to explore their passions and forge new friendships. All Seasons offers daily fitness classes, current event discussions, cooking demonstrations and art classes.
And then there are the regular signature events— featuring everything from opera singers to big bands—that further enhance the cultural richness of the community.
Outings to local landmarks like the Detroit Institute of Arts or Detroit Symphony Orchestra are not just excursions; they’re opportunities to stay connected to the world. “It’s all about keeping their minds and hearts engaged,” Molly adds.
Imagine having time to do what you want—and having someone plan it all for you.
That's the lifestyle at All Seasons, where residents explore their passions and forge new friendships by attending university lectures, joining card tournaments and enjoying live performances from acclaimed musicians and entertainers. Also offered are daily fitness classes, current event discussions, cooking demonstrations and art classes.
And then there are regular signature events—featuring everything from opera singers to big bands.
Outings to local landmarks like the Detroit Institute of Arts or Detroit Symphony Orchestra create regular opportunities to keep hearts and minds engaged with the world.
While people are the heart of All Seasons West Bloomfield, its amenities form the foundation of a life lived beautifully. The design is timeless yet inviting, with expansive spaces that inspire both socialization and solitude. The lobby, with its grand piano and polished finishes, offers a welcoming first impression, while private apartments provide the perfect blend of comfort and sophistication.
Dining is an event to be savored, with restaurant-style meals crafted daily by a culinary team that balances indulgence with nutrition. Residents enjoy chef-curated menus that change monthly, featuring dishes like fresh-caught seafood, expertly prepared filets and decadent pastries—all tailored to their preferences.
“It’s not just about the food,” says Leslee. “It’s about the experience of dining, of connecting, of enjoying life.”
Transportation at All Seasons is stylish, not to mention generous. With a chauffeured Cadillac and passenger bus, All Seasons helps residents easily travel to appointments, social outings, even spontaneous shopping trips.
Maintenance is equally seamless, with a team ready to address everything from minor repairs to home upkeep.
Ultimately, what makes All Seasons West Bloomfield so extraordinary is the people—residents who bring their unique stories, passions and personalities to the community, complemented by a team who dedicate themselves to enriching the lives of residents.
“This isn’t just a place to live,” Leslee says. “It’s a place to belong.”

As consumers, we are constantly being enticed to buy. Whether it’s the jewelry we can’t live without, concert tickets to a show we don’t want to miss, or that favorite pair of shoes calling our name, we buy what we love, and art should be no different.
If you are new to acquiring original art, you may find it daunting, but it shouldn’t be. It is a special purchase that forces you to dig deep and discover a bit more about yourself. At first, many people shy away from buying original art because of the commitment. It’s a big decision after all, and how do you really know when it’s the “perfect” piece? Because art is subjective, part of the process is learning what style of art is the best fit for you. Is it colorful and energetic abstracts, or soothing landscapes that catch your eye? Maybe you are drawn to local photography, or even figurative works. There is no wrong answer, and maybe it’s a mix of several styles that creates your unique collection. The best way to find out your “art personality” is to get out and visit your local galleries. Consider making it a tradition to visit galleries while traveling or buy a piece of art as a gift on special occasions. In the gallery setting you can explore various art styles, mediums, and even learn more about the talented artists who create those works.
With the purchase of original art comes other considerations. Often, we have clients who need direction figuring out what size of art they need and its placement in the design of their space. If you find a piece of art you love, you will always find a spot for it. Ask the gallery if they offer in-home art consultation services to see the piece in your setting. Great custom framing is key, and well-designed framing is the jewelry to a great piece of art. Quality archival framing protects your art from UV rays that can damage a piece over time. Original art should last generations.
I’m often asked, should I buy art for investment? There is a place for investment art, but I don’t believe in buying art with the pretense that it will go up in value. There is no guarantee it will and to me, good investment art brings different riches to your life. Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you. The best art investment should be the feeling you experience gazing into an oil painting that perfectly captures a warm sunset over the prairie, or the texture created by a palette knife on the abstract that seems to pop off the canvas. That is what makes investing in original art priceless.
Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you.
Nothing says spring like the aroma of fresh-cut herbs in a crisp, cold, cocktail. With warmer weather finally here, growing herbs at home can transform your cocktail hour and add a fresh kick to your springtime favorites.
Growing herbs is incredibly easy and can be done in a variety of ways—from a container in a window, to a planter box in the yard. With a container or garden full of fresh herbs, you will be ready to take your cocktails up a notch.
Basil is a bright herb that is easy to grow and perfect for cocktails. Make sure to harvest immediately before mixing drinks and take leaves from the top to ensure a continual harvest. Fresh muddled basil leaves lend a crispness to the Gin Basil Cucumber cocktail.
Sage is easy to grow and does well in containers. The leaves add an earthy freshness to a refreshing cherry-infused Bourbon.
Mint is also easy to grow, but give it lots of room, as it likes to spread out and is virtually indestructible in the garden. Mint is a versatile herb but is especially lovely in the Rhubarb Mint Mojito.
Try recreating these refreshing cocktails with herbs grown at home and take your cocktail game to new heights!

A surprising trend is emerging in homes today: people who don't feel comfortable in their own spaces.
Interior Designer Nicole Gudeman hears the complaints of unwanted walls, limited storage and rooms that are too small—or too big—for a cohesive decor style.
That's why she's quietly revolutionizing the way people experience their homes—from multi-million-dollar manors to $300,000 middle-income residences.
As the owner of New Era Designs, a boutique interior design firm, Nicole combines science with artistry to create spaces that resonate deeply with the people who inhabit them.
Her philosophy is quite simple: Design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about functionality, psychology and, above all, creating a sense of home.
Nicole didn’t always envision herself as a designer. Her journey began at Michigan State University, where she initially pursued dentistry.
“I thought I wanted to be a dentist,” she recalls with a laugh. “But then I started taking interior design courses to fulfill elective requirements. I’d leave class, call my mom and just gush about everything I’d learned. It felt like the perfect marriage of art, science and math.”
That spark led her to transfer to the prestigious College for Creative Studies (CCS), where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design degree.
“People think of interior design as purely artistic, but to me, it’s a science,” she explains. “There’s a psychological foundation behind every design choice, from the colors on the walls to the layout of the furniture. We create spaces that not only look good but also feel good to live in.”
This meticulous approach has become her hallmark, as she begins the process with her clients’ unique needs and lifestyles.
“Every home is a puzzle,” she says. “You have to consider how the space will be used, who’s living there and what makes them comfortable. For some clients, that might mean designing a compact kitchen that minimizes walking distance during meal prep. For others, it’s about creating a living room that doubles as a home theater for family movie nights.”
Her commitment to functionality extends to her business model. Nicole offeres a transparent, client-friendly pricing structure.
“I don’t mark up furniture or materials, and I pass on my trade discounts directly to my clients. It creates a mutually beneficial relationship and helps make design accessible to everyone.”
It’s almost a mission with Nicole. “There are so many people with homes in the $300,000 to $600,000 range who don’t think they can afford an interior designer,” she says. “With me, they can.”
Accessibility is a cornerstone of Nicole’s mission. “I’ve worked on homes ranging from 1,000 square feet with tight budgets to $1.6-million
properties with expansive floor plans,” she says. “The goal is always the same: to make your space feel like home, no matter your budget.”
This philosophy is exemplified in one of her favorite projects—a redesign for a family in Troy with a small budget but unique needs.
“Both the husband and son have ADHD, and the family felt more at ease in the grandparents’ home than their own,” Nicole shares. “The goal was to bring more comfort and organization to their home. I approached it like solving a puzzle, reimagining their floor plan to create a calming, cohesive environment. Seeing the mom tear up during our first meeting was incredibly rewarding. That’s why I do this.”
Nicole’s portfolio includes commercial spaces, such as multifamily housing and dental offices.
“I enjoy blending the personal touch of residential design with the functionality of commercial spaces,” she notes. Her expertise in both realms, coupled with a burgeoning reputation for photorealistic renderings, has set her apart. Through her secondary venture, The Render House, Nicole
creates lifelike visualizations that help clients and fellow designers envision their projects with clarity.
“Renderings make a huge difference,” she explains. “You can see exactly how your space will look, down to the finishes and furniture. It eliminates guesswork and makes decision-making so much easier.”
When asked what drives her, Nicole’s passion is palpable.
“I designed my home to be my sanctuary, and the joy I feel here is immeasurable,” she says. “I want everyone to feel that way in their own space. Your home should be a source of comfort and happiness. It’s not about trends or luxury for its own sake. It’s about creating a place where you can truly be yourself.”

A LITTLE PAINT, A LITTLE CAULK: MEET THE PEOPLE WHO BRING COLOR TO YOUR HOME, USING THE TOOLS OF CREATIVITY, CRAFTSMANSHIP AND KINDNESS
When you hire a painter, you’re not just asking someone to slap color on your walls and be on their way. You're trusting a team to craft a beautiful result—and to create a memorable experience.
That’s the aim of That1Painter. Led locally by owner Ade Adeyemo and operations expert Amber Stanon, this franchise is changing how people see painters, one brushstroke at a time.
Ade, a surgeon with a passion for giving back, saw an opportunity to bring something new to the local painting scene during the COVID19 pandemic. He quickly added Amber, a sharp and compassionate

leader, and together, they’re driving the business based on three key pillars: humility, community and integrity.
Not what you typically hear from a team of painters.
“For us, it’s about more than paint,” Ade shares. “It’s about treating every client like family. There are people behind our projects.”
This approach is rooted in personal values. Both Ade and Amber have had their share of unfortunate experiences with contractors who didn’t care. From broken promises to being ghosted after payment, they’ve seen how not to do business.
“We’re different,” Amber says. “We go into every job with grace, love and compassion. It’s important to us that our clients feel valued and heard.”
At That1Painter, it’s not about being the cheapest or most expensive—it’s about being the best. They specialize in high-quality work like cabinet painting, which they execute with precision and care to ensure a long-lasting finish.
They also handle brick and exterior painting, deck and fence staining, caulking, stucco repair and more for both residential and commercial clients.
But what really sets them apart is how they put people over paint. They listen to the needs and expectations of customers, knowing they may need to work around family heirlooms or adjust schedules to make things easier.
“We painted Dora's entire home—walls, ceilings, trim and cabinets. She loved having us there. She even threw a party afterward to show off our work.”
She tells of Dora, a widowed teacher with limited resources. “We painted her entire home—walls, ceilings, trim and cabinets. She loved having us there. She even threw a party with her friends afterward to show off our work.”
That personal connection is what sets them apart. “We want to leave every client happy,” Ade says. “There’s no better feeling.”
The team vets their painters meticulously, ensuring they have both the skills and the attitude to match the company’s values. “Our painters are incredible. Like Jason and Josh, for example. They go the extra mile for our clients and for the team,” Amber adds.
That1Painter is an experience. From the moment a client calls, they’re guided through the process with transparency and care. Whether it’s accommodating a tricky schedule or sanding down a sticking door at no extra charge, the team goes above and beyond to ensure satisfaction.
“We have a dedicated project manager who keeps you updated every step of the way,” Amber says. “When you hire us, you’re not left wondering what’s going on.”
Take Ron, a meticulous client who hired them to stain his deck. The first attempt didn’t go as planned. Instead of

making excuses, Amber and the team resanded the entire deck and turned it into a masterpiece. Ron was so thrilled, he made and posted a video singing their praises.
“He joked about moving his furniture out there and sleeping on the deck because it looked so good,” Amber laughs. “Then he brought us back to paint the inside of his house.”
A three-year warranty backs That1Painter’s confidence in their craft—something virtually unheard of in the painting industry. “We stand by our work because we do it right the first time,” Ade says.
The company also offers flexible financing options, making their services accessible to everyone. This has proven especially popular with real estate agents and homeowners looking to spruce up their properties before selling.
In painting, there’s color, craftsmanship and creativity. Ade and Amber add culture to that mix, emphasizing kindness, humility and putting the client first. “If your grandma’s 1902 armoire is the most important thing in the room, we’ll treat it like a treasure,” Amber says.
With a mix of humor, heart and hard work, That1Painter is proving that painting is an opportunity to make a difference. “Nothing in life is better than knowing you made someone else happy,” Ade says.
Amber agrees, adding, “That’s the kind of rich I want to be.”
CUSTOMIZED MASONRY OFFERS FUNCTIONAL CURB APPEAL.
ARTICLE BY ERICA HOBBS
From chimneys and porches to walkways and siding, masonry marries the worlds of practical and aesthetic value. Locally owned Next Level Custom Brick (nextlevelcustombrick.com) offers expertise in both, infused with a family-owned sense of pride and service.
“We focus on the needs of the homeowner and their project. We are a team, and we work together with our customers from start to finish to ensure a smooth and easy transition throughout the process,” says Nic Thompson, who owns the business with his wife, Catie Thompson.
With Nic’s background in construction and Catie recently retired from 16 years as a hair stylist, the couple decided it was time to venture out on their own. Together, they founded the company in 2021.
“After being in the residential construction industry the majority of my life, I realized that with starting a business, we could specialize in one area — masonry,” Nic says. “Whether it be brick, block, stone, concrete or something else — it can provide such a big transformation to any home. I absolutely love to work with our team and see the finished product.”
While Catie says chimneys and porches are their most often-requested jobs, the company offers a range of masonry services, including cultured stone and stone veneer, concrete flatwork, walkways, landscape walls and more. They also work with a variety of customizable brick and stone options, all sourced locally from a select group of suppliers.
“We have really great standing working relationships with our suppliers,” Catie says. “The handful of supply places that we get our materials from are smaller companies that are local; we don’t just order in from other places.”
The company’s pride in being “family-owned” applies to more than its literal ownership — the business’ 12 employees include Nic’s brother, another set of brothers, and family

friends among its tight-knit team. Additionally, Catie says the crews work exclusively with Next Level and are made up of master masons with at least 15 years of experience.
“We invited specific people; we had a lot of purpose behind our hiring process,” Catie says.
That expertise, she says, is important in masonry. Like electrical and plumbing, Catie says masonry should be done by people who know what they’re doing, or the consequences could be dangerous. Nic says waiting too long to make necessary repairs or not investing in quality work can also be costly.
“The value of adding upgraded masonry materials or even just keeping up on maintenance of the existing materials provides longevity on the exterior of the home,” he says, “which in turn keeps the interior of your home protected and weatherproofed from Michigan’s ever-changing climate.”
NIC AND CATIE’S TIPS to
easily update and beautify your home’s exterior:
• Inspect your home’s exterior two or three times a year for signs of deterioration and disrepair.
• Consider replacing dated vinyl siding with cultured stone.
• Upgrade your entryway and front porch with stone veneer.
• Used mixed materials and colors to add texture
• Create standalone outdoor fireplaces instead of portable fire pits to create a long-lasting focal point conversation piece.
There are many science-based benefits to having houseplants in the home and office environment.
The ubiquitous houseplant has long been a cautious curiosity for many. Comments such as “I don’t have a green thumb,” or “I can’t keep anything alive,” have echoed through the rooms and hallways of almost every home in America. Well, it’s time to dispel all the mistruths about whether houseplants are beneficial and to lay the foundation for a little oasis of green happiness in the corner of every home!
By the way, you don’t really need a green thumb as there are plenty of hard-to-kill houseplants that can survive any level of neglect! And remember not only do houseplants look pretty, they also decrease stress and anxiety, increase happiness, and bring a sense of joy and relaxation to every room.
Houseplants make us feel better about ourselves in many ways because they allow us to care for them and we reap the rewards of that love. No one is alone when you have a houseplant, as they are our forever listeners. Yes, some people actually do talk with their houseplants all day long! There are

many science-based benefits to having houseplants in the home and office environment. Aside from reducing indoor air pollutants and increasing humidity in the home, house plants have been shown to reduce mental fatigue, accelerate the healing process, as well as improve productivity and focus.
Pothos, spider plants, lady palms, yucca, and succulents are so pretty and easy to grow. It is no wonder that we have seen a revival of indoor gardening trends. Instagram is teeming with photos of incredible indoor “living green” vignettes that show us all how clever we can be when decorating with house plants! All you really need is to a pick a place in the home that has the best light and pick your plants.
Think outside of the box when it comes to decorating with houseplants. Look for underused spaces. Use mixed and matched pots of different sizes and shapes. Turn a shelf into a plant display. Go vertical with some hanging plants or an antique ladder. You can even group some of your favorite plants together into a single large decorative pot.
Signature large plant displays anchor the most well-designed rooms in America and it’s all there for us to look at, learn from, and bring into our own home. Whether combined into a single large decorative pot or clustered together in a corner, always remember the key to any house plant décor is to have a thriller, a tall plant usually with a strong color and form; filler plants that literally will fill the pot covering all the soil; and a spiller plant that trails over the edge of the pot. Try any combination of your favorite plants or a tried and true combination of a fiddle-leaf fig, a prayer plant, and a string of pearls.
No matter how you look at it, houseplants improve our lives in many ways. Indoor gardens provide us an alternative way to commune with nature and to reconnect with the living world. We all benefit from the additional life that houseplants bring into our homes. In this crazy world of ours, wouldn’t be it nice to return home to your own personal indoor greenspace.
Happy gardening!
