Investing in People, Purpose, and Progress

When we think of investing, our minds often go straight to stocks, savings, or real estate. But some of the most valuable investments don’t involve a financial portfolio—they involve time, energy, and heart Investing in our community means showing up—supporting local businesses, attending events, volunteering, and fostering relationships with neighbors. A thriving community doesn’t just happen; it’s built by people who care. The more we pour into Windsor, the stronger and more vibrant we become. Whether it’s grabbing a coffee from a locally owned café instead of a chain, shopping at a neighborhood boutique, or cheering on a hometown team, small choices add up to a big impact.
Beyond businesses, investing in your community also means getting involved. Attending town meetings, participating in service projects, or simply saying hello to a neighbor can create a ripple effect. When we make an effort to connect, we foster a sense of belonging—and that sense of belonging is what transforms a place from where we live to where we thrive
At the same time, investing in yourself is just as essential. We often get so caught up in doing for others that we forget to nurture our well-being. But self-growth isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. Whether it’s learning a new skill, prioritizing mental and physical health, or carving out time for something that brings you joy, taking care of yourself fuels the energy you need to give back. A well-balanced life allows you to be a better friend, partner, leader, and community member.
The beauty of these two investments? They go hand in hand. A strong community uplifts its people, and strong individuals create thriving communities. When you pour into your community, you gain a sense of purpose and connection. When you invest in yourself, you have more to offer those around you. It’s a cycle of growth, generosity, and fulfillment.
So, where will you invest today? Maybe it’s grabbing dinner at a family-owned restaurant, signing up for a fitness class, picking up a bottle of local Larado Whiskey, reaching out to Dr. Althoff, calling Pike's Auto for maintenance on your vehicle, buying a book from Words of Windsor, or volunteering for a local cause. However you choose to invest, know that every effort—big or small—makes a difference. And as always, thank you for choosing WCL to read today!

How Larado Whiskey’s Local Roots and Dedication to Craft and Community are Driving Their Growth
Hunter Hoshiko, co-owner of the Windsor-based Larado Whiskey company along with partners Dave Goldschmidt, Joe Berlin, Jordan Lockner, and Gabe Keyes, takes pride in their conservative beginnings, especially after seeing the growth in distribution of the premium whiskey to 150 locations statewide. Rather than investing in distilling equipment, a large facility, or even a sizeable capital raise, the core premise of their vision was, first and foremost, to create great whiskey. They credit their success to a combination of starting small, taking advantage of their Colorado roots, and growing
organically. Though the business is still under a year old, the owners also attribute much of their growth to the support of the surrounding community. Being the face of the company is a top priority for the owners, which is why they chose to handle distribution themselves in the beginning. However, their expansion has warranted partnering with a distribution company to help extend their reach to a wider customer base.
The hand-etched bottles originally bore a different name, but due to trademark issues, the co-owners changed the name to Larado (not to be confused with the Texas town of Laredo). They believe that the new name, an infusion of the old name and ‘Colorado,’ still exudes a Western cowboy feel - the image strongly associated with the Larado Whiskey brand. While a name change can be a setback, the owners of Larado Whiskey count it as part of the story that makes them unique. With the same brand image and very similar-looking bottles, only the logo is a bit different. The people behind the name,
what they represent, and the same superior quality of the product is what truly matters to Hunter and his partners. “The company stays the same; the whiskey inside is still great.”
Hunter recognizes that the loyal people of this community love supporting small, local businesses like Colorado-made Larado Whiskey. People also appreciate the company’s active involvement in the region. Larado has donated barrels of whiskey to Northern Colorado’s Cattle Barons Ball and Colorado Youth Outdoors, which are near and dear to their hearts, among many other organizations. These donations have raised tens of thousands of dollars for each campaign. The company’s main motivation behind these contributions is to build meaningful relationships and help support the causes they deeply cherish.
As Larado continues to grow in the surrounding communities and beyond, they hope to invest in their own tasting room in Windsor in the near future. The tasting room will not only serve as a market for their

whiskey and merchandise but also as a place where they can connect with people and share their story and who they are - the very principle on which Larado Whiskey is built. There is also talk of building a new distillery with the potential of an attached event center. They hope to expand their growth beyond state lines as well. Staying within the conservative framework of their business model they plan to stay focused on the markets here in Colorado, however, before expanding outside the state.
Hunter and his partners are thankful for the support of the community and as a local company and active member of the area, they value the support shown to them when patrons request Larado Whiskey at their favorite restaurants and liquor stores. With an emphasis on connection, community involvement, and the story behind their whiskey, Larado looks forward to what lies ahead for them as a company and as a vital part of the community.
Creating exceptional whiskey requires attention to every step of the process, and the owners of Larado Whiskey are committed to upholding the highest standards while adding a personal touch. Every bottle is hand-labeled and handwritten right at the distillery, and even their signature lasso is meticulously hand-tied around each bottleneck.

INVESTING IN WINDSOR THROUGH TRUSTED SERVICE, STRONG RELATIONSHIPS, AND A DEDICATION TO THE COMMUNITY’S SUCCESS
Windsor native Sean Pike, owner of Pike’s Auto Care Center at 728 Main Street (970-686-8473) remembers his dad’s advice: always give back to the community. Guided by this principle, Sean and his wife, Jessica are avid sup-

porters of local charities and nonprofit organizations, raising money for community events and even setting aside funds to help community members who cannot afford car repairs.
Sean’s commitment to Windsor runs deep, stemming from his childhood. Growing up watching his father’s work in the community, Sean absorbed the importance of contributing back to the area. Sean knew from a young age that community involvement was key. His father’s legacy in Northern Colorado also instilled in Sean a sense of responsibility toward the local economy and a passion for helping businesses thrive.
As a 30-year automotive industry veteran, Sean recalls the influence his parents had in the community when they moved to Windsor in 1968. Not only the trusted dry cleaners of the area, but his father was a part of Kodak's market expansion into Northern Colorado, creating numerous jobs in
needs. Jessica agrees that because Sean has been local to the community for his entire life it has allowed him to build loyal, well-established relationships, making him a natural choice for an auto care provider.
Among other auto care needs, Pike’s Auto Care Center prides itself on the service they provide to their fleet customers. Prioritizing timeliness, they recognize the importance of getting fleet vehicles repaired and back on the road. After all, a company can’t afford to have their vehicles down as that means their technicians are down as well. As a courtesy, Pike’s Auto Care Center offers a vehicle for use while repairs are being done, but the speed of service is still emphasized. Investment in adequate technicians and equipment to handle the variety of needs, especially with fleets, allows Pike’s to maintain efficiency and affordability in addition to minimal turn-around time. Pike’s is equipped

with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and an extensive inventory of parts, ensuring that every repair is done with precision and proficiency. Their team of skilled technicians is trained in the latest automotive technologies, allowing them to provide the best service possible. Their focus remains on continuing to streamline and improve on what they’ve always done rather than breaking into any new fields. This commitment to quality service is why local businesses trust Pike’s Auto Care Center to keep their fleets running smoothly.
Sean and Jessica’s most recent collaboration, their union as husband and wife, has afforded them numerous opportunities to support each other both in business and their personal lives. Jessica is among the top 5% producing real estate agents in Northern Colorado. As business owners, they both understand the demands that come from being entrepreneurs. They appreciate being able to share challenges and bounce ideas off each other. The fact that Jessica’s job is not a 9-5 affords them both opportunities to help with family schedules. Their combined efforts have boosted the impact of both Pike’s Auto
Care Center and Jessica’s Remax business (970-631-2997) through the number of relationships they both bring to the mix. Jessica’s former association with a large property management company gives her access to numerous vendors that she has been able to refer to Pike’s. Alternatively, Sean is able to refer friends and investment associates to Jessica. He has great appreciation for Jessica’s reputation and the way she conducts her business as it has earned her regular repeat business. Beyond supporting each other’s businesses, their partnership is based on mutual trust, respect, and shared interests. In addition to their continued investment of time and staying current on business trends, Sean and Jessica look forward to the merging of their families under one roof, prompting a move in the near future.
Sean and Jessica’s dedication to Windsor and each other is an inspiring example of what it means to be community-minded entrepreneurs. Whether it’s through Pike’s Auto Care Center or Jessica’s real estate expertise, their focus on giving back has helped shape the region.
Face it, money is what it takes to live the life you envision. Of course, each person has their own vision, but financial stability lays the foundation for greater opportunities. Investing in yourself financially is one of the most powerful decisions you can make for your long-term success and well-being. Whether it’s learning new skills, pursuing higher education, or building a savings cushion, investing in yourself boosts your earning potential and helps you become more resilient during economic downturns. The more you invest in your financial knowledge and habits, the more you equip yourself with the tools needed to navigate an ever-changing world. The truth is, money makes money, and financially stable people make communities stronger.
Windsor State Bank, a branch of Wray State Bank, consistently stands by its community to help keep it a thriving place to live, work, and play. While Windsor State Bank offers a variety of business investment options, including loans, every financial path begins with the individual. Windsor State Bank offers a variety of personal checking and savings options for individual investors, including Certificates of Deposit (CDs), IRAs, HSAs, and Student Savings Accounts. Certificates of Deposit Accounts at Windsor State Bank are unique in the fact that you can add to them at any time. They offer automatically renewable CDs so you never miss a day's worth of interest, and with maturity terms ranging from 30 days to five years, Windsor State Bank will help you make a savings plan that is right for you! Because it’s never too early to begin investing, Junior CDs and Gradepoint CDs are also available for children and students. Windsor State Bank offers Traditional, Roth, and SEP IRAs. A Traditional IRA allows you to write off your contributions on your taxes, and
you won’t pay taxes on savings until you withdraw during retirement. A Roth IRA acts in the opposite way, offering you the ability to contribute money that has already been taxed, so when you retire, you collect that money tax-free. And for the business owner, a SEP IRA aka Simplified Employer Plan IRA, is established by an employer on behalf of an employee and receives all the same tax benefits that a Traditional IRA does.
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) can be used as investment tools and typically are savings accounts used to
save money for medical expenses. No minimum balance is required to open or earn interest. Students can get a head start at Windsor State Bank by opening up a Student Savings and Checking Account. By opening both, the Student Savings Account will earn a higher interest rate than a regular savings account while allowing unlimited withdrawals. And when it comes to school spirit within the community, Windsor State Bank offers Windsor Wizards and Severance Silver Knights mascot debit cards so locals can show off their school pride! The debit cards can be printed upon account opening, displaying exclusive mascot card designs. From college to retirement, Windsor State Bank is here to support its clients every step of the way. Their team of financial professionals values ongoing relationships by building trust through transparency, and believes that a successful investor is an informed investor! To learn more about Windsor State Bank, visit their friendly team at 1130 Main Street in Windsor, or check out their website at windsorstatebank.com. Planning for one's future when they're not going to be here can feel somewhat daunting. It’s why Sam Webb of Words of Windsor loves this book In Case You Get Hit by a Bus. This power-packed book talks about all the usual items such as finances, wills, and even funerals. But beyond those, there’s a discussion about things like social media accounts, how to talk with loved ones, and passwords; especially one's phone (from personal experience – Sam knows that’s a biggie) - so many of the things someone may not have thought of. Such as, is there a family recipe book – who makes sure that is taken care of?
The book is well laid out and Sam loves how it takes a potentially overwhelming topic and breaks it into straightforward and workable pieces. Planning for the end is not a topic most want to think about, but with this book, it feels very doable and will be a part of taking care of those you love.
Once the plan is set, Sam also recommends How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free. This book offers all the wisdom that's often left out by financial advisors—the fun stuff!

WHY STANDARD LAB TESTS FAIL—HOW SCIENCE-BASED NUTRITION TESTING REVEALS THE TRUTH
Millions of people live with fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, inflammation, weight gain, and poor digestion, only to hear from their doctors, “Your lab results look fine.” Others are on medication for thyroid disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or autoimmune conditions, but still don’t feel their best.
That’s because traditional lab tests focus on diagnosing disease—not uncovering dysfunction. When lab results only measure whether a person is in a disease state, they often miss the early warning signs of imbalance, inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction.
Althoff Wellness Clinic in Windsor, CO, takes a different approach. Using ScienceBased Nutrition (SBN) Testing, they go beyond routine lab work to identify hidden imbalances and create customized wellness plans that help patients reclaim their health. Common Conditions That May Improve with SBN Testing:
(Even for Those on Medication!)
• Many thyroid patients continue to struggle with fatigue, weight gain, and brain fog despite medication
• SBN Testing evaluates T3, T4, reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies to identify key imbalances often missed in standard tests.
• Prescription medications can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, but they don’t always address the underlying causes of cardiovascular dysfunction.
• Advanced inflammation markers, metabolic function, and vascular health assessments can help create a holistic heart health plan.
• Insulin resistance often begins years before diabetes is diagnosed.
• This testing evaluates fasting glucose, HbA1c, insulin, and C-peptide to provide a proactive approach to blood sugar management.
(Hashimoto’s, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc.)
• Autoimmune diseases are often triggered by inflammation, poor gut health, and immune dysfunction.
• SBN Testing helps identify underlying inflammatory markers, toxic burdens, and nutritional deficiencies that may be making symptoms worse.
• Many patients feel exhausted and mentally sluggish without a clear explanation.
• Nutrient deficiencies, thyroid imbalances, and adrenal dysfunction can all contribute to these symptoms, and SBN Testing helps uncover the root cause.
Unlike traditional lab tests that simply diagnose disease, SBN Testing helps patients:
• Identify hidden imbalances before they develop into chronic conditions.
• Receive a customized plan with targeted supplements, nutrition, and lifestyle changes
• Retest in 2 months to track progress and fine-tune their wellness plan.
Althoff Wellness Clinic believes no one should have to guess about their health. By analyzing the right biomarkers, they create precise, personalized solutions to help patients feel their best—naturally.
Call 970-686-6833 today to schedule a consultation! Stop guessing. Start healing.
