January 19, 6:30PM = Mardi Gras Parade - Krewe du Vieux: The Krewe du Vieux is a non-profit organization dedicated to the historical and traditional concept of a Mardi Gras parade as a venue for individual creative expression and satirical comment. It is unique among all Mardi Gras parades in the city because it alone carries on the old traditions of Carnival celebrations, by using decorated mule-drawn floats with satirical themes, accompanied by costumed revelers dancing in the streets to the sounds of jazzy street musicians. www.kreweduvieux.org January 19th, 7:15PM - Mardi Gras Parade - Krewe Delusion: This follows Krewe du Vieux parade. krewedelusion is the Big Easy's newest, satirical parade. krewedelusion keeps its annual theme a secret until the actual day of the parade. This unique parade krewe is the root organization from which a myriad of small upstart and existing parading clubs will blossom. Costumes are required to be a part of krewedelusion! http://www.facebook.com/pages/krewedelusion/287774005928 January 25th, 3PM - Mardi Gras Parade - Krewe of Cork: Founded in 2000, the Krewe of Cork has grown into a world-famous Mardi Gras and wine industry phenomenon. http://www.kreweofcork.com/ January 26th, 6PM - Mardi Gras Parade - Knights of Sparta: The Knights are still known for their elaborate bal masque tableaus and for their traditional, yet innovative, street parade on the first Saturday on the Carnival parade season. http://www.knightsofsparta.com/ January 27th, 2PM - Mardi Gras Parade - Krewe of Barkus: The Krewe Of Barkus isn’t like your other Mardi Gras Parade. This one has gone to the dogs. Man’s best friend is the center of this parade through the streets of the French Quarter with their humans simply as their escorts. http://www.barkus.org/store/ February 3 – Super Bowl Sunday, Mercedes Benz Super Dome: New Orleans will host its 10th NFL championship game in 2013, when Super Bowl XLVII. www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d810681fc

Fun & Interesting Facts
Information about NOLA & Louisiana
The Superdome in New Orleans is the worlds largest steel-constructed room unobstructed by posts. Height: 273 feet, Diameter of Dome: 680 feet, Area of Roof: 9.7 acres, Interior Space: 125,000,000 cubic feet, Total floor footage: 269,000 sq. ft., Electrical Wiring: 400 miles. Louisiana has more than seven million acres in wetlands and estuarine water, more than any other state in the nation. The Pontalba Buildings are the matching red-brick block long 4‑story buildings in Jackson Square built in the 1840s. The ground floors house shops and restaurants; the upper floors are apartments that are the oldest continuously rented such apartments in the United States. Louisiana is the nation’s number one salt-producing state, with 24 percent of domestic production. The Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans is the oldest yacht club in the state and the second oldest in the nation. Its charter dates from 1849. The Bourbon Pub and Oz, both located at the intersection of Bourbon and St. Ann, are the two largest gay clubs in New Orleans. Canal Street forms the upriver boundary of the French Quarter. It was the dividing line between the older French/Spanish city and the newer American Sector. The median of the street became known as the neutral ground acknowledging the cultural divide. To this day, all medians of streets in New Orleans are referred to as such.

Super Bowl XLVII beads for Courtyard Marriott When local artist Ally Burguieres was selected earlier this year to design the official Super Bowl XLVII beads for Courtyard Marriott, the Saints fan and NOLA enthusiast jumped at the chance to make the NFL keepsake. “It was a huge honor to be selected,” Burguieres says. “Three artists were chosen to submit their ideas, and fans voted to determine the winning design. To win a contest like this is incredible — it means a lot that people chose to include my artwork as part of their Super Bowl experience.” An energetic and enthusiastic extrovert, Burguieres is an up-andcoming artist using bright colors, bold lines, and quirky conceptual pieces (check out The Notebook Series) to share a love for life, animals, and beauty. Many art lovers in New Orleans and beyond are now familiar with her work, and her desktop novelty, “The Wish Dog”, is gaining national popularity. But what most people don’t know is that Burguieres’s story began when she submitted her doctoral thesis (a 450-page dissertation in Linguistics) and traded her saved-up scholarship money for art supplies and the first month’s rent at her Royal Street shop. It was an unequivocal risk. Despite little formal training in art and almost none in business, Burguieres recognized art as her passion, a thread that was always surfacing over the course of her academic career. “I’ve painted, drawn, and created as far back as I can remember,” she says. “It wasn’t until I finished my doctorate that I became obsessed with creating all the time, and pursuing art as a full-time career.” In the same way she felt the need to paint, Burguieres felt an undeniable pull to return to her father’s hometown of New Orleans. “I knew I had to come back,” the thirty year old says. She grew up visiting family in the Crescent City, and has fond memories of Audubon Park, chasing lizards, and catching beads. “Everything about New Orleans is special — the people, the architecture, the literature, and the wildlife and natural beauty. I couldn’t wait to live here as an adult and re-experience all the magic of the city.” Now she co-owns and operates Gallery Burguieres at 736 Royal Street with her mother, Jan Burguieres. “I couldn’t have done it without my mom,” Burguieres says. “She’s been there every step of the way and encouraged me to take the chance. Neither of us knew if we could make it work. But I think when you have a dream you really believe in, you have to go for it, even when you’re surrounded by negativity and people saying you won’t make it.” Now garnering numerous collectors and fans of every age, in addition to getting recognized by thousands of voting football enthusiasts, Burguieres appreciates the validation. “Art is always risky,” she says. “Everyone is going to have an opinion. For me, what makes up for the struggles is when even just one person comes out and says, ‘I LOVE that!’ Every day, I’m thankful that I get to wake up and create pieces that people care about and find meaning in. That’s worth every bit of risk.”
