Interview with Yandi Monardo in his Studio Which is your most enjoyable moment in your studio?

What happens completed?

when

the

series

are

The most enjoyable moment is when the ideas start taking form in a very intimate dialogue between pencil and paper, white canvas and the mixture of colors, fresh paint and its scent, lines and shapes, oil painting and tones, the consideration of what has been accomplished and what need to be done. The most enjoyable moment is the creation process.

I usually keep them out of sight. After a while i look at them again and really observe them, feel them. Sometimes i get really attached to some pieces and those are the ones that take part of my personal collection and the other ones go to the galleria. The most rewarding and special feeling is the opportunity i have to share my ideas to the world.

What is your work process in your studio? I like working in series because as allows me to research and deepen myself in the theme i´m focusing, in order to take the best advantage of it. The direct and continuous work makes me develop the main idea with which i would address a particular area or painting in order to express a clear message with it. What kind of materials you usually use? Materials vary depending on the message i want to deliver or the creative moment i would find myself in. I use oils, acrylics, wooden assemblages, dirt sculptures. The art work takes form when there is real communication between ideas and materials.

Fashion for Cabo San Lucas If you’re considering a trip to Cabo remember the temperature heats up in summer. To prepare for your trip you will want to pack light-weight summer wear to stay fresh and cool under the intense sun rays of Los Cabos. Breathable cottons, linens, and water friendly fabrics are a must, along with sunglasses and a wide brim hat to keep you in the shade. You will want to pack a combination of shorts, skirts, dresses, tank tops, and shirts. The desert breeze in the spring/winter/fall can cause some cool nights so be sure to bring a light jacket, pashmina, pair of trousers, and a maxi dress. Simple cocktail attire is always a necessity when traveling abroad as you never know where a tropical summer night will take you. Athletic wear is recommended as there are a lot of fun outdoor activities on the peninsula. Don’t forget a clutch for the evening and beach tote for the day. As far as shoe wear I recommend flat sandals for walking around town, havaianas are always perfect for the beach, runners for your outdoor activities, and heels for the evening.

About the Olympics

The countdown to the 2012 London Olympic Games has begun with only a few days to go. The Olympic kit for London emulates either an airline host uniform or country club attendant. There is no creative energy dialed into one country’s uniform. When the opening ceremonies ignite it will appear as a blur of color with no distinction. Warning: do not get confused when you see team Germany dressed in sky blue and bubblegum pink instead of their colors of origin. Guess this is what happens when you outsource to Russia on a whim.

9

FASHION

the lifestyle magazine

The Olympic Games, however, are about performance not fashion, correct? Some may disagree and will tell you, for example, that Great Britain’s uniforms should have more red symbolizing confidence and power, with less blue. The consensus for game uniforms is hardly universal, with some heavy hitters behind the creations. The Olympics come around every four years, representing the best of the best from countries around the world. So you might think the athletes’ attire would rise to that standard. But to be honest, some of those outfits can cause a fashion designer to lose her breakfast. But, hey, it’s all in the eye of the beholder! On a more trendy note, lets take a look at how those Olympic Games might influence your own fashion style this summer. The summer suit is the hot item as we will see each Olympic athlete rocking it during the games. Whether you pair a blazer with trousers, shorts or a skirt you cannot go wrong. Trousers are dressed down this season with the idea of tuxedo trousers meet track pants, with wide legs and high contrast stripes. Athletic details prevail with trims and fabrics, as the high tech mesh is a cool way to go in the heat. Color blocking is another crazed phenomenon that will be fun to play with, which clearly marks the Olympic Ambassadors of the games. 10

Fashion Talent in Mexico

From the Olympic arena to the catwalk, fashion talent in Mexico is emerging and developing as quickly as any other country. Lets take a close look inside the stitches and seams of five of the freshest talents in Mexico. One of the most impressive is the young Mexican designer Carla Fernandez, from Mexico City. She’s known for her savy business mind and innovation in the industry. Fernandez won the International Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year at London Fashion week in 2008 for her work as founder of Taller Flora, a fashion label and mobile laboratory. The designer travels throughout Mexico visiting communities that specialize in handmade textiles and then works them on a fair-trade basis to create her unique collection. Personally I think we will see mores businesses operating on fair trade, and applaud this direction. Designer Lorena Saravia, also out of Mexico City, is another shining star to watch. She already has five strong collections under her belt. Saravia, who once interned for Macario Jimenez, is defining her style with fine fabrics, subtle lines and elegance, all in evidence when she recently presented her Spring/Summer 2012 collection in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Mexico. Jose Alfredo Silva and Giovanni Estrada are the designers behind the Trista label. They are a more established design duo out of Mexico City, but one that cannot be overlooked. The label is beginning to have a more global presence in both men and women’s wear. Trista promotes nostalgic, romantic, elegant, and sophisticated designs that illuminate the body. The abundance of meaning and purpose behind each design explains why the fashion house merits so much attention. From the big industrial city of Monterrey comes skillful stylist and fashion designer Maria Vogel. Vogel, pays intense attention to detail, with innovative combination of fabric and textures placing her among the top five. Expect to see more to come from this young designer as she continues to find her voice. Finally, one of my personal favorite brands is Malafacha, by Francisco Saldana and Victor Hernal in Mexico City. This design powerhouse is known for edgy, fun, crazy, colorful, and off the wall innovation that stems from solid inspiration. Malafacha is a fashion label that is true art pushing the boundaries of the human body, imagination, and fashion.

Watch out for Travelers Diarrhea! Traveler’s diarrhea it is most common illness caused by the stress of the actual trip, a new environment, weather, or the type of food that you eat where ever you are visiting, food that you normally do not eat back home, and obviously from contaminated food. For us, we get it when we visit friends & family up north!. The most important thing to do, is to always hydrated not just with water but with electrolytes . If the symptoms persist for more than 24 hrs, call Integrated Medical Group so we prescribe the best the treatment for you. I personally recommend taking acidophilus (probiotics) one week before you travel to any country. When you visit a place where the climate, social conditions are different from yours at home, you have an increased risk of developing traveler’s diarrhea. Traveler’s diarrhea is a digestive tract disorder that commonly causes loose stools and abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. Fortunately, traveler’s diarrhea usually isn’t serious — it’s just unpleasant. Being careful about what you eat and drink while traveling can reduce your risk of traveler’s diarrhea. If you do develop traveler’s diarrhea, chances are it will resolve without treatment. However, it’s a good idea to have doctor-approved medications with you when you travel to highrisk areas in case diarrhea persists. 12

August 2012

Symptoms

Traveler’s diarrhea usually begins abruptly during your trip or shortly after you return home. Most cases improve within one to two days without treatment and clear up completely within a week. However, you can have multiple episodes of traveler’s diarrhea during one trip. The most common signs and symptoms of traveler’s diarrhea are: • Increased frequency, volume and weight of stool • Frequent loose stools — usually about four to five loose or watery bowel movements each day • An urgent need to defecate • Abdominal cramps • Nausea • Vomiting • Fever • Bloating Sometimes, people experience moderate to severe dehydration, bloody stools, persistent vomiting or a high fever. If you or your child experiences any of these signs or symptoms or if the diarrhea lasts longer than a few days, it’s time to see a doctor.

When to see a doctor

Traveler’s diarrhea usually goes away on its own within several days. Signs and symptoms may last longer and be more severe if the condition is caused by organisms other than common bacteria. In such cases, you may need prescription medications to help you get better. If you have severe dehydration, persistent vomiting, bloody stools or a high fever, or if your symptoms last for more than a few days, seek medical help. Your Hotel or House Administrator, in this case if you are staying in a LIFESTYLE Villa, you can call your LIFESTYLE Concierge so he give us a call & we’ll visit you in the comfort of your home. Be especially cautious with children, because traveler’s diarrhea can cause severe dehydration in a short time. Call a doctor if your child is sick and exhibits any of the following signs or symptoms: • Persistent vomiting • Bloody stools or severe diarrhea • A fever of 102 F (39 C) or more • Dry mouth or crying without tears • Signs of being unusually sleepy, drowsy or unresponsive • Decreased volume of urine, including fewer wet diapers in infants

Causes

Most of the time traveler’s diarrhea may stem from the stress of traveling or a change in diet. Sometimes you also develop traveler’s diarrhea after ingesting food or water that’s contaminated with organisms from feces. These organisms are infectious agents (including various bacteria, viruses and parasites) that enter your digestive tract and overpower your defense mechanisms, resulting in signs and symptoms of traveler’s diarrhea. So why aren’t natives of high-risk countries affected in the same way? Often their bodies have become accustomed to the bacteria and developed immunity to them.

NOT TO WORRY

All of our homes have purified water, which means you can drink from any tap. Since our destination is tourism based, the majority of restaurants & vendors use purified ice, so don’t worry about the ice. When ordering water at a restaurant, its always best to order bottled water just to be sure.

Risk factors

Your chances of getting traveler’s diarrhea are mostly determined by your destination. But certain groups of people have a greater risk of developing the condition. These include: Young adults. The condition is slightly more common in young adult tourists. Though the reasons why aren’t clear, it’s possible that young adults lack acquired immunity, they may be more adventurous in their travels and dietary choices, or they may be less vigilant in avoiding contaminated foods. • People with weakened immune systems. A weakened immune system increases vulnerability to infections. • People with diabetes or inflammatory bowel disease. These conditions can leave you more prone to infection. • People who take acid blockers or antacids. Acid in the stomach tends to destroy organisms, so a reduction in stomach acid may leave more opportunity for bacterial survival. • People who travel during certain seasons. The risk of traveler’s diarrhea varies by season in certain parts of the world. For example, risk is highest in South Asia during the hot months just before monsoon season.

Treatments and drugs

Because traveler’s diarrhea tends to resolve itself, you may get better without any intervention. It’s important to try to stay hydrated with safe liquids, such as bottled water or canned juice. If you don’t seem to be improving quickly, you can turn to several medications to help relieve symptoms. Anti-motility agents. These medications are recommendable just for a short time and only if you are going to places where you can have a restroom nearby. Loperamide (Imodium A-D) or diphenoxylate (Lomotil) provide prompt but temporary relief by reducing muscle spasms in your gastrointestinal tract, slowing the transit time through your digestive system and allowing more time for absorption. They aren’t recommended for infants or people with fever or bloody diarrhea, as they can delay clearance of the infectious organisms and make the illness worse. Also, stop using anti-motility agents after 48 hours if you have abdominal pain or your signs or symptoms worsen and your diarrhea continues. In such cases, visit a doctor. Bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol). This over-the-counter medication can decrease the frequency of your stools and shorten the duration of your illness. However, it isn’t recommended for children, pregnant women or people who are allergic to aspirin. You can also use antispasmodics like Butilhioscina ( Bsucapina ) to reduce cramps. Antibiotics. If you have severe symptoms or three or more loose stools within eight hours, a doctor may prescribe a three- to five-day course of antibiotics. Avoiding dehydration Dehydration is the most likely complication of traveler’s diarrhea, so it’s important to try to stay well hydrated. An oral rehydration solution (ORS) is the best way to replace lost fluids. These solutions contain water and salts in specific proportions to replenish both fluids and electrolytes. They also contain glucose or another carbohydrate, such as rice powder, to enhance absorption in the intestinal tract. You or your child can drink the solution in small amounts throughout the day as a supplement to solid foods or formula, as long as dehydration persists. Small amounts reduce the likelihood of vomiting. Breast-fed infants also can drink the solution, but should continue nursing on demand. If dehydration symptoms don’t improve, seek medical care right away. Oral rehydration solutions are intended only for urgent short-term use. Lifestyle and home remedies If you do get traveler’s diarrhea, avoid alcohol, caffeine and dairy products, which may worsen symptoms or increase fluid loss. But keep drinking fluids. Drink canned fruit juices, weak tea, clear soup, decaffeinated soda or sports drinks to replace lost fluids and minerals. Later, as your diarrhea improves, try a diet of easy-toeat complex carbohydrates, such as salted crackers, bland cereals, bananas, applesauce, dry toast or bread, rice, potatoes. Once diarrhea goes away for 2 days, you may return to your normal diet. 14

Via G20 Mexico.org: The G20 Leaders’ Summit, the most important multilateral event ever hosted by Mexico, has concluded, as a result of which President Felipe Calderón issued a press statement. The president began by thanking the G20 members, guest countries and heads of international organizations that participated and made 16

the Leaders’ Summit a success. He also highlighted the work of academics, businesspeople, trade unions and young people at several parallel forums such as the L20, Y20 and B20 who worked for months to submit recommendations and achieve commitments among the G20 participants. The President declared that the VII Leaders’ Summit was characterized by being open and inclusive and working closely with various social sectors and organizations whose opinions and recommendations were taken into account at the Los Cabos meeting. President Calderón subsequently briefly described the most important agreements reached within the framework of the Summit in order to contribute to addressing several of today’s challenges: The Los Cabos Growth and Jobs Action Plan 2012 was signed. strengthen demand, economic growth and financial systems, ensure the fiscal consolidation of advanced economies, reinforce solid, sustainable growth in emerging economies and maintain trade liberalization. To this end, an innovative Accountability Mechanism for G20 Objectives was implemented. The IMF’s financial resources were increased to over $450 billion USD. This constitutes the greatest capitalization in the history of the Fund, which will increase its capacity to provide support and loans for coping with economic crises. Trade facilitation measures were adopted in order to reject protectionism, since it is in the interest of all the Group members to prevent the escalation of protectionism measures from leading to further recession. The president declared that the main agreement established was to extend the Stand Still Clause to 2014, which involves abstaining from implementing protectionist measures, and will guarantee certainty for international markets.

Advancements were achieved in improving the regulatory framework in order to strengthen financial systems. Progress was made in the creation of an institutional framework, as a result of which the Financial Stability Council will be created, with new statutes to enhance its operativeness and governance. In regard to financial inclusion, the president declared that agreements were reached for the Global Alliance for Financial Inclusion, which will measure the progress in the extension of financial services to the population with least resources. In addition, greater financial education will be promoted and protective measures increased for the users of financial services for savings, credits and insurance. In regard to food security, the G20 agreed to promote greater public and private investment in order to promote agriculture, develop technology and increase the productivity of the sector. The president announced that Mexico will host the G20 Agricultural Chief Scientists in September. An Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) will be created to prevent worldwide food price speculation. For the first time ever, the environmental issue has been established. In particular, Mexico promoted the discussion of topics such as green growth, the elimination of fossil fuel subsidies and measures to increase fuel efficiency, among others. Foremost among these is the launching of the Dialogue Platform on Inclusive Green Investments, which brings together several sectors in order to identify private investment opportunities in green projects that will create growth and employment and at the same time, help preserve the environment. The president declared that this will be one of the legacies of the VII Leaders’ Summit. President Calderón concluded his address by stating that the second half of the Mexican G20 presidency will be characterized by fulfilling the Summit’s commitments in order to deliver a solid agenda to Russia in December. Lastly, he fielded questions from the media. 17

By augusto chacón, Cabo san lucas marina operations manager

Cabo san lucas before the marina Cabo San Lucas is a beautiful city, offering attractions both modern and historic. Before becoming the important tourist destination that it is today , Cabo San Lucas was a small fishing village located at the end of the peninsula. With the construction of the Marina, Cabo San Lucas can now host worldwide sport fishing tournaments and has now become one of the most luxurious getaways in the entire planet.

Cabo san lucas now a days is well-know as a worl class destination with incredible hotels, restaurants, venues, activities and a spectacular marina. But it was not always that way. If we could go backwards in time, this was seen as an inhospitable desert with a small fisherman’s town that had no infrastructure whatsoever, and just a few hotels available. The history of this town is so unique, because since the beginning this has been the playground for the rich and famous who wanted to escape & enjoy the solitude of the beaches even with out any infrastructure. Goes to show you how adventurous everyone was back then.

Legal background for boating in mexico

Marina Cabo San Lucas

Since 1987, the Cabo San Lucas Marina has worked hard to consolidate Cabo San Lucas as the main boating center of Mexico, and to lure as many foreign boats to Mexico as possible. Previously, foreign boats had been allowed to stay in Mexico for only a period of 180 days or pay a bond equivalent to 100% of the value of the boat.

Since the very beginning, Marina Cabo San Lucas was designed to accommodate the best sportfishing boats and megayachts. Plans called for all the quality services demanded by first class customers.

In october 1990, with the construction of marina cabo san lucas, cabo san lucas became the most important tourist harbor in mexico. Since then, the overall tourism mix in mexico has experienced a radical change and marinas have begun to appear along the entire pacific coast. In july 1990, regulatory and fiscal changes were implemented that authorized foreign vessels to remain in the country for up to five years without the payment of a bond. Instead, vessels were required to have a simple fiscal custody contract with a tourist marina which then became legally and fiscally responsible for the vessels. Since 1994 foreign vessels have been able to be temporarily imported for up to 20 years.

The Marina also worked to ensure a safe and worry-free long term environment for its clients. This required negotiations with many players including the Mexican Authorities, the American Authorities and insurance companies. The efforts of this group facilitated the development of the best services for the clients. Marina Cabo San Lucas is normally the first port of entry for vessels that visit from the United States (98%). Usually, these vessels depart from the Port of San Diego (1,200 miles away) and do not touch land again until they reach Cabo San Lucas. Marina Cabo San Lucas furnishes all of the services expected of a world class, state of the art Marina. This has permitted the consolidation of the yacht base, principally sport fishing vessels that visit Mexico.

Marina Construction The Marina is located in the heart of downtown Cabo San Lucas, with over 50 different restaurants and more than 250 commercial stores from supermarkets to commercial malls. It is also only a five minute walk from Medano Beach where many of the well known hotels & restaurants in Cabo San Lucas are located. The most distant Golf Course is only 35 minutes away and the closest one is only 5 minutes from the Marina. The Los Cabos International airport is only 40 minutes away & the Cabo San Lucas International FBO is only 15 minutes away.

The first phase of the Marina construction was finished in October 1990 with 288 individual slips. In February 1991, the Marina started providing electricity. It has been clear since the inception that the Marina was going to experience a very high demand during high season. In 1991 the Marina built the travel lift pier, the Dinghy dock, the panga dock, and M dock. In 1993 the Marina remodeled M dock to accommodate megayachts by adding fingers and enlarging the slip sizes. In 1995 the Marina built a fuel dock. Until 1998, when the Marina finalized the permits to operate the fuel dock as a Pemex franchise, the fuel dock was used as a 170 foot slip. The Fuel dock has high speed dispensers and sells centrifuged diesel as well as gasoline.

Cabo San Lucas Marina today Marina Cabo San Lucas is a modern facility with all the services expected in a first-class marina. Unquestionably one of the world’s foremost yachting, sport fishing and mega-yacht lifestyle destinations, this marina offers an outstanding range of on-site conveniences for luxury yacht owners, their guests and crew members. As the central hub for the world’s largest and most popular sport fishing tournaments, the Cabo San Lucas marina is a busy center of activity focused on water sports, luxury shopping and dining. Featuring 380 slips and accommodating yachts up to 300 feet, this Cabo San Lucas marina also has 24 hour security, crew facilities, WiFi and cable. In 2003 the marina built a wave attenuator to provide a more secure area for megayachts. The fuel dock area was doubled in size to provide better services to boaters. Overall the marina has 344 slips.

I think this re affirms the long term growth potential for development that this incredible state has. If you haven’t been to our local FBO’s lately,

This summer we aligned ourselves with ATI Jet Charter for our upcoming fall/winter season. This will give our clients access to the best priced private jet travel & also to their Medical air ambulance division. You never know when you’ll need this service, but now you can deal directly with the service provider and avoid from being overcharged in the event of an unforeseen incident. So the next time you feel like flying private or if you or anyone you know requires

The following is a note from our Private Air partners Welcome to the world of private flying, where you will leave behind the indignities associated with airline travel... We are ATI Jet Charter, a company with more than 20 years experience flying high profile business people, celebrities, top government officials and some European Royals. We have our main base and corporate offices in El Paso, Texas, and operational bases in Eagle/Vail Valley, Colorado, Teterboro, NJ, Van Nuys, CA, and Saint Croix, US Virgin Islands. We also operate ATI Airmed, an air ambulance service with intensive care unit capabilities for those who have been struck by disaster away from home. Our fleet consists of 4 comfortable and luxuriously appointed Learjet 55’s, one luxurious Learjet 35 which is convertible to ambulance, and one dedicated ambulance Lear 25. We exclusively operate Lear jets, the most trusted and reliable, best built light 30

and know what to expect from us, flight after flight regardless of which aircraft was assigned to them for the trip, unlike those big name fractional operators where there’s a myriad of aircraft types and configurations. and mid size jets that have millions of flight hours of proven track record without structural failure even under the worst weather conditions. Some high profile professionals and corporations in our Eagle and West Texas regions have second homes in Cabo, and routinely fly here; we serve both San Jose and Cabo San Lucas airports, depending on what the customer requests. You will enjoy the consistency of stepping on an airplane that looks just like the one you just flew with us last month: all our fleet has the same corporate paint scheme and the same interior configuration and appointments, so customers have an exacting standard

All our captains must meet the requirement of having a minimum of 3000 hours in Lear jets before we allow them in the left seat, so rest assured your crew is experienced on the aircraft they’re flying. All their training is done at Flight Safety Learjet training center in Tucson, AZ, and reinforced with recurrent, periodical training at our home base in El Paso, TX. We have operated accident free since company inception, and that’s the result of our safety policies and crew training. We invite you to check with us when planning your next Cabo trip (www. atijet.com), and our partners on the ground LIFESTYLE can put together for you the ultimate Cabo experience.

LAND’S END (The Point) Depths start out around 25 ft. with the opportunity to dive the canyon. Calm conditions allow you to get up close and personal with the resident sea lions that call this spot home. Loads of structure and life-covered rock walls are home to tropical fish, lobsters, hawkfish and even schools of tuna. Eels are another common sighting. Currents can get a little strong and unpredictable so dives here are best suited for the intermediate to advanced diver.

DIVE LOCATIONS

NEPTUNE’S FINGER Also located in Cabo Bay, this dive brings you to rock piles and boulders covered in sea sponges, gorgonias and sea fans. The usual colorful display of tropical fish complete the picture with a good chance of a visit from a sea turtle. With the help of local protection agencies and volunteers, sea turtles are making a comeback here in Cabo.

PELICAN ROCK SAND FALLS Located in Cabo Bay alongside the rocky cliffs that lead the way to Land’s End, this area offers dives starting at 20 feet. Drop down the walls with sea fans and schools of goat fish, puffers, eels, parrotfish and angels. Other common sightings are lobsters, jacks, rays and the occasional white tip reef shark. Most famous for Jacques Cousteau’s discovery of the “Sand Falls”, this is a great choice for a quick trip that’s only a 5 minute boat ride from the Cabo marina.

NORTH WALL This is one of the best locations for beginning divers and those taking “resort” courses but it still holds wonders that even very experienced divers will enjoy 35

DRIVING IN MEXICO: A SHORT PRACTICAL GUIDE

1. Buy Mexican Auto Insurance. Mexican auto insurance is a must if you plan to do anything more than a quick hop across the border since, in the case of an accident Mexican authorities will not accept foreign auto insurance policies. Any Mexican auto insurance coverage you purchase should include claims adjusters that will come to the scene of an accident and an attorney. This becomes very important since, in the event of an accident, you are not allowed to move your vehicle and you may be detained by the police in the event that anyone is hurt until fault can be established. 2. Be aware that not all roads are in the best of conditions. Although over the last 6 to 8 years there has been an increase in the number of four-lane toll roads throughout the country, some of the minor roads, for instance those between small towns, are more likely to be paved with cobblestone instead of asphalt and, either way, they all have their share of pot holes and ruts to be careful about. 3. Although there are reports of people being stopped and their property being stolen while on an isolated road, there are few reports of people actually being injured. The best way to avoid this is to drive during the day and not to stop for hitchhikers. Also beware of any foreign objects in the road; these are normally placed there so that an unsuspecting driver will be forced to stop. 4. Try to restrict driving to daylight hours. This is common sense wherever you drive since road signs are easier to read, road hazards are easier to see and avoid and there are normally more cars traveling the same road you are so there is less chance of anything bad happening. Always be aware of livestock. On most U.S. roads, livestock is unheard of except in rural areas. In Mexico, however, livestock creates a large problem because of a lack of fencing around the highways. Livestock are normally left to roam wherever they can find food and this is sometimes near a well traveled road. Each year there are less and less sightings of livestock along the corridor highway. The new highway to La Paz also is wonderful as they have the entire highway fenced off so we won’t be seeing as many as before, but its always good to be aware. 5. Remember that most people do not use their turn signals and not all cars you see on the road have functioning brake lights. Avoid accidents by keeping your distance, using your turn signals and being aware of those who don’t. 42

August 2012

6. Always know who has the right of way. This is sometimes difficult because, even though you may be in the right, if the “the other guy” is bigger, he won’t care. This means you will want to slow down at all intersections and look both ways whether you are required to or not; it also means you will want to yield to larger vehicles that want to occupy your same lane space. 7. Always plan your trip ahead of time. Take a good road map along with you and know where your stops are going to be. In the old days, there were sections where you HAD to have an extra tank of gasoline as you wouldn’t make it, now a days, there are PEMEX stations everywhere, but a good rule of thumb is to not let your tank go below 1/4. 8. Remember that here, just as anywhere else; all those things you learned in driving school apply. Keep free space in front, behind and beside you when driving; obey the speed limits; use your turn signals; and always make sure your vehicle is in good condition and that you have plenty of spare parts (i.e. tire, water for the radiator, transmission fluid and oil) before beginning your journey. 9. Buy a basic Spanish phrase book before your trip. Learning how to tell someone you need a mechanic (necesito un mecánico), help changing a tire (necesito ayuda para cambiar la llanta) or directions (dónde está or cómo llego a) can be very useful. Even if you can’t pronounce it quite right, people will usually get the message and be able to effectively communicate to you what you need to know. 10. Mexico’s Driving Signs: you might want to print them out as a reference when driving down. Please keep in mind that measurements are specified in metric so make sure not to get cm and meters confused with feet and inches AUTHOR’S NOTE: Just in case you’re considering risking the trip without Mexican auto insurance, consider the following: • Mexican law is Napoleonic (soon to change) — this means that you are guilty until proven innocent. The person deciding this will most likely be the policeman who arrives at the scene of the accident, especially if you cannot provide proof of Mexican auto insurance and/or failure to have an adjuster appear. • When a traffic accident does occur, the police may impound your vehicle, especially if there is no one there to help you defend your rights such as an insurance adjuster and/or an attorney. Also know that in the event that someone is injured and you are found responsible, you might not only be held liable for those person medical expenses but also for financially supporting them and their dependents until they recover. If you have an attorney he will probably be able to help you negotiate a more reasonable settlement than that which you could negotiate on your own.

74ft. la odisea The Northern Sea of Cortes La Odisea is a 74-foot (54 ton) Sunseeker yacht. Sunseeker is to luxury yachts what Rolls Royce is to luxury cars. La Odisea is based in Los Cabos and La Paz in the Sea of Cortes. From these two ports La Odisea covers the southern part of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. The mission of La Odisea is to provide our guests with experiences beyond imagination. La Odisea has a world-class wine cellar with the very best wine, tequilas and liqueurs. We have a gourmet chef on board with a distinguished background in international fine cuisine. La Odisea takes the very concept of personalized service to the highest standards. La Odisea is decorated with original works of art by Fernando Botero and the interior design and fabrics of Ralph Lauren. Most charter boats are used exclusively for charter. La Odisea & Scorpio are different, both are private boats that are occasionally chartered, so the condition of both yachts is spectacular. La Odisea is owned by the Botero family (Yes, the Colombian Botero!). It is chartered occasionally and to special guests. This makes all the difference in the world.
