Getting Started Tips for New Advisers! If you would like some help designing your yearbook, this topic is for you! Below you will find tips, items to be aware of in the Lifetouch Yearbooks website and ideas for saving time. Tips and Shortcuts If you are new to designing yearbooks or if you would like some design tips, look for the “đ&#x;’ĄTipsâ€? found throughout the Lifetouch Yearbooks website topic Help guides. Look for the red flag đ&#x;šŠ for time-saving shortcuts. Lifetouch Yearbooks Website Menu If you do not use the recommended monitor resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher, your main menu will look different than intended. Instead of a simple, collapsed menu across the top of the website, you will see a Menu icon in the right corner as shown below.

To adjust the look of the menu, either change your monitor size to 1024 x 768 or higher or you can use the Menu icon as is, however, note that the menu will need to be clicked opened and clicked closed.

Save vs. Submit It is important to save at the end of every working session. The Lifetouch Yearbooks website does not auto-save so it is a best practice to save frequently. Save saves your changes AND allows you to continue to make changes. The Save function does not submit any page to the Lifetouch Production Team. How do you submit pages? • The Cover page is submitted when you click Submit on the Covers page. • Page spreads (right and left facing sides that you can see when you open a book to a single page; also called double-page spread) are submitted when you select them on the Pages screen and click Submit. Themes and Recommended Cover Themes are a great way to save time because they include three sets of coordinating borders and backgrounds. The consistent borders and backgrounds create an overall consistent look to your yearbook. You will have a cover recommended for you based on your selected theme. You can always add or tweak a theme’s elements on individual pages based on your yearbook needs. For more information themes, see the Set Up a Yearbook Theme Help topic.

Layouts Predefined activity page layouts and modifying portrait layouts are a great, easy way to add variety to your yearbook. • For more information about creating a unique page layout of student classroom pictures , see Portrait Group Options at the bottom of the Add a Portrait Group to a Page Help topic. • For more information about creating a fun, interesting picture collage of events or school activities, see the Add a Page Layout Element Help topic.

Create a Blank White Page You can create a blank white page by editing a page spread to have a white background and no border. • For more information about updating a page spread to have a white background, see Edit the Page Border Help topic. • For more information about updating a page spread to have a white background, see Edit the Page Background Help topic.

Images versus Portraits In the Lifetouch Yearbooks Help topics, you will see that there are references to images and portraits. • Image: A candid picture of an event, activity, etc. Sometimes referred to as a candid. o For more information on adding an image, use the Add a Single Image Element Help topic. • Portrait: A picture of a single student or staff member usually taken on Picture Day or Picture Retake Day. o For more information on flowing a portrait group onto a page, use the Add a Portrait Group to a Page Help topic. Finding One-off Images/Portraits Sometimes you want an image or a group of images in your yearbook and so you want an easy way to find those images during the yearbook build. Here is a good rule of thumb to use: • One-off images: Add tags when importing images to quickly find your images when building a page. o See the Upload Images/Candids, Add a Page Layout Element and the Add a Single Image Element Help topics. • Off-off portraits: Create groups with specific portraits and then easily flow those portrait groups onto a yearbook page. o See the Create a Portrait Groups and the Add a Portrait Group to a Page Help topics.
