Exercise 2: Design your second spread Use the bubble sheet to plan a story about Red Ribbon Week or another event you plan to include in the yearbook. Using the expanded spread plan as a guide, assign or take photos to tell the story of each module. Sketch your design on grid paper first. Include these elements: • Headline (primary and secondary) • Photos • Captions/idents • A story, space permitting • Modules placed to the outside of the design. Remember to use the three types of internal margins on your design: Traditional - one-pica: Used in the major photo module to “hold” the mod together. Tight - 3 points between photos: Used in mods to show that photos are related to each other. Expanded - 3-4 picas: Used to separate and highlight modules to draw readers to those elements. Now use your sketch as a “road map” and design the spread in the online program. Add photos to your design and save it as a Standard PDF. Send the PDF to your teacher for grading. Note the final design. For a review of how to design a spread in the online program, go to this instructional video.
