Exercise 4: Design your third spread Use the bubble sheet to plan a story about an event or group you plan to include in the yearbook. Assign or take photos to tell the story of each module using the expanded plan sheet. Sketch your design on grid paper first. Use the expanded plan to add depth to your story. Include these elements: • Headline (primary and secondary) • Photos • Captions/idents • A story, space permitting • Modules placed to the outside of the design. Remember to use the three types of internal margins on your design: Traditional - one-pica: Used in the major photo module to “hold” the mod together. Tight - 3 points between photos: Used in mods to show that photos are related to each other. Expanded - 3-4 picas: Used to separate and highlight modules to draw readers to those elements. Now use your sketch as a “road map” and design the spread in the online program. Add photos to finalize your design, save it as a Standard PDF and send it to your teacher for grading. Send the PDF to your teacher for grading. Note the final design. For a review of how to design a spread in the online program, go to this instructional video.
