Thu 7 Jul, 8.15pm
Thu 28 Jul, 8.15pm
Pete Firman is the UK’s leading Comedian/Magician. A familiar face on British television including Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford and Derren Brown’s 3D Magic Spectacular. Pete will be joined by Matt Kirshen, an established fixture at Edinburgh Fringe with his engaging impish style.
Michael J Dolan / Chris McCausland
SHAZIA MIRZA
Thu 21 Jul, 8.15pm Manchester’s-own grumpy young man, Michael J Dolan, presents his first solo show, “Dressed to Depress”. In his debut Fringe show, he promises to make you laugh at the sheer awfulness of absolutely everything, the idiots you share your life with, your stupid friends and dreadful family. He will be joined by award winning Chris McCausland, the only professional comedian in the UK who is blind which only serves to make his particular brand of observational comedy all the more unique.
Shazia Mirza’s comedy is a unique blend. Her Pakistani parentage and Birmingham upbringing have resulted in a comedy rich in its diversity. Although her family are Muslim this is not central to Shazia’s comedy which takes a more general observational approach and deals with her particular culture as a British Asian woman. Hot comedy talent Zoe Lyons will be joining Shazia, delivering her sideways view of life, picking out the many absurdities and turning them into hilarious routines which she delivers with tremendous energy. Zoe’s TV credits include Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Mock the Week.

SHOW ME A SECRET
Light House is proud to present a talk by acclaimed Magnum photographer, Martin Parr. Throughout his distinguished career Parr has investigated ordinary life in Great Britain by looking at the subjects of everyday existence. This fantastic opportunity to hear his entertaining talk should not be missed!
While documenting Sandwell, Magnum photographer Martin Parr worked with students and tutors from Sandwell College Photography Department. Martin challenged the students to ‘show him a secret’ of the Sandwell area. A small selection of the students’ work from this assignment will be shown in Lock Works café bar.
Fri 29 Jul - Sun 21 Aug This series of photographic images was designed to operate on a number of levels. The mannequins are shot with a slick, magazine aesthetic, giving them stylised gloss which we are accustomed to in celebrity and fashion magazines. But the images are also intended to raise more difficult questions about body image. The images were created over a period of ten years that Branko spent suffering with anorexia nervosa. He is interested in the questions that are often asked about the eating disorder, and those which he feels are also conveniently forgotten. Is the fashion industry truly some sort of great evil? Is there any benefit to blame? Who really sensationalises eating disorders? Are people truly ignorant of the facts about eating disorders or is it merely lack of education? Is anybody really meant to be “never made of plastic”?
