A design classic
It’s the epitome of a classic. A study in style. And architects aren’t the only ones that love it, either! The Architect Lamp is one of the world’s most iconic and recognisable lamps, and it’s a great choice for anyone looking for both form and function — aesthetics and great lighting.
So, why is it called the Architect Lamp anyway? It’s because major architects like Le Corbusier loved this solid, highly functional lamp, making it so widespread that it eventually earned its nickname. The first architect lamp was designed in France, in the early 1920s — more than 100 years ago. The lamp’s flexible arm and ball joint made it a revolutionary invention, and in the years that followed, it made its way into offices, sewing shops, operating rooms, and laboratories where there was a need for flexible, concentrated working light. In the 1930s, the ball joint was replaced with a spring-based mechanism, and the design was further refined after that. Soon enough, the lamp was taking its rightful place in studies and especially children’s rooms in the home. Upgrades and new versions were designed over the years, but the original idea lived on. In other words, this lamp is timeless.
