Lille 2004, European Capital of Culture put our region on the world map. Within a few short months, we enhanced our reputation for 10 years while displaying a “Lille touch”, as praised so widely by the international press: that is to say an energy, a conviviality, a creativity and a new art of experiencing culture with the greater public. That exceptional year, with its 9 million visitors, changed the face of the city – thanks to artworks, urban development projects, the restoration of our heritage buildings and the creation of new facilities such as the Maisons Folie – rallying us together while opening up to the world. A true momentum was created, which we consolidated through lille3000 so as to continue exploring the cultures and questions of our societies, all the while projecting us towards contemporary artistic creation, innovation and the future. In 2006 came the discovery of India with Lille Bombaysers: an India in all its splendour, at the crossraods of art and modernity. In 2009, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Europe XXL – meaning Central and Eastern Europe as far as Moscow and Istanbul – was at the centre of the celebration with exhibitions, supercharged “Midi Midis”, radical productions and new venues, including the refurbished Gare Saint Sauveur, setting Lille and the Eurodistrict to the new Eastern Time. In 2012, FANTASTIC invaded the region for four months full of surprises and fresh perspectives. An intriguing programme that transformed the everyday and created wonder by revealing the mysteries hidden around street corners and behind the doors of familiar places. Beyond the major thematic editions, lille3000 also took the initiative of presenting major contemporary art exhibitions in Lille in an exceptional venue, the Tripostal. This dynamic was set in motion in in 2007 with the François Pinault Foundation (Passage of Time), continuing in 2009 with the Saatchi Gallery (The Silk Road), in 2011 with the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Collector), in 2013 with the Emmanuel Perrotin gallery (Happy Birthday, Galerie Perrotin/25years) to mark the gallery’s 25th anniversary, and finally in 2014 with an exhibition dedicated to 18 private Flemish collectors (Secret Passions). These events were all encounters with contemporary art, presenting the biggest names in the international art scene along with emerging artists. They also told the stories of the invited collectors while confronting us with the questions they ask and the indignation they feel in relation to mankind and the world.

Another recurring theme of lille3000: multiple visions of the future and the avant-garde. At the heart of this theme we find the Futurotextiles exhibition, which, since 2006, has been touring internationally in various forms that reflect the wealth of technical and innovative textiles. This project is also a testimony to the excellence of our region, which is historically linked to the textile industry and today the European leader in the field of textiles of the future, as spearheaded by the UP-Tex technology cluster and the Centre for Technical and Innovative Textiles. In 2015, new events are scheduled in Lille and beyond. Starting with the customary spring and summer programming at the Gare Saint Sauveur, focused on festive and convivial events for the whole family every weekend, and the exhibition Art Garden in collaboration with National Heritage Board, as part of the Singapore in France Festival. Then there’s the France/Lille Europe/Region Nord-Pas de Calais/Métropole Européenne de Lille Pavilion opening in Milan, on the occasion of the World Expo 2015. At the heart of the superb Milan Pallazzo delle Stelline housing the French Institute, the Textifood exhibition, the new iteration of Futurotextiles, presents textiles being developed from microorganisms produced in the food industry. Finally, in the autumn, it’s full steam ahead for the 4th major thematic edition of lille3000: RENAISSANCE. This will be an opportunity to demonstrate that in our world of crisis and disorientation, renewal is underway. Large world cities that have been reborn after powerful crises show us the way. These cities, which we call “renaissance Cities”, will be invited to Lille: Rio, Detroit, Eindhoven, Phnom Penh and Seoul. But the renaissance is also right beside us, around us, in our country, and especially in our region; where we have so many strengths and talents to offer. Opening parade, exhibitions, live shows, metamorphoses, Do It Yourself, design, food, debates and new events… From the historic Renaissance to the transformations of the 21st century, artists from all over the globe will reflect on the vitality of today’s world. lille3000, the voyage continues!

Introduction

Immerse yourself in cities undergoing a full-scale renaissance! Marking an opening up to the world through artistic and technological exchanges, RENAISSANCE, the new thematic season designed by lille3000, aims to reflect the vitality of the planet we live on today. Featuring a parade, exhibitions, urban metamorphoses at the Tripostal, the Gare Saint Sauveur and in our many partner cultural venues, incursions into Renaissance cities – Rio, Detroit, Eindhoven, Seoul or even Phnom Penh –, shows, Do It Yourself, lights, design, food, debates and original events, RENAISSANCE will extend throughout the entire Eurodistrict. In similar fashion to the 16th-century Renaissance in Europe, marked by a resurgence in all areas related to the development of exchanges, today, in the early twenty-first century, we are going through a turbulent era in which a new world, new global balances, and an acceleration of inventions and innovations are emerging, along with their dissemination in real time (via internet), new ways of thinking about the world and its fragility,

and new ways of building the towns and cities of the future. This vast transformation is going hand in hand with a multitude of intellectual and artistic movements that are inventing new forms of art and expression (new materials, new ways of designing works, hybridisation, collective and shared systems, participatory methods of producing works, environmental installations, the recycling of ideas and materials, digital art, the dematerialisation of media, civic applications, etc.). It is this momentum that RENAISSANCE will seek to capture. Artists and experiences from around the world – Europe, France, the Eurométropole and Lille – will meet the public in a spirit of openness and joy.

Brazil’s second city with a population of 18 million, Rio de Janeiro is above all a city of contrasts. Between panoramas of pristine mountains and long idyllic beaches, it combines overcrowded spaces with complete wilderness. Each neighbourhood has its own identity: the winding, bohemian streets of Santa Teresa, the refined, chic atmospheres of Ipanema and Leblon, the workingclass, touristy Copacabana or the impenetrable and codified fabric of the many, constantly expanding favelas that are home to more than 20% of the population. Rio is also a city of music and dance that is absolutely bursting with energy. As an ancestral tradition related to seasonal cycles, the carnival has always been a party rooted in people’s need to regenerate. The Rio carnival is the largest in the world, starting in the streets around the batucadas and leading up to the parade of samba schools in the famous Sambadrome, where every year a prize is awarded to the best band. Rio is also increasingly anchored in modernity. Its urban planning continues to evolve, boosted notably by the hosting of the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016 but also due to the redevelopment of the port area, which will hold the Museum of Tomorrow dedicated to the life of the future, or the “German” cable car that has opened up access to twelve favelas since 2011 by connecting five hills. With its festivals, varied and intense atmospheres, constantly changing urban landscape and new generation of socially-conscious galleries and artists, Rio is a warmblooded RENAISSANCE city. In Lille, it will be present in the Opening Parade, Rue Faidherbe and the Wazemmes district.

The first fire that devastated Detroit dates back to 1805, an event that gave rise to the city’s motto “We hope for a better things, it shall rise from the ashes.” Since then, Detroit has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. The city of all extremes and fantasies, in less than a century it has known glory and opulence, racial conflicts, the fall of the American dream, bankruptcy and desolation. “Detroit is not dead, Detroit is not dead!” recently chanted a small crowd gathered at the Packard Plant, the former assembly plant of the Packard Motor Car Company, a mythical symbol of the Motor City that has been out of business since 1960. Long before the brand new city reconstruction plan was announced, “the D” was reoccupied and rethought by its residents, artists, and those who describe themselves as “Parts of the City”. Former factories are becoming artists’ residences, a police station has been turned into a gallery, abandoned houses are being converted into high-tech recording studios, a theatre has become a car park, while an entire disused neighbourhood is coming back to life through the customisation of its streets. Amidst the ruins, the cold and the total absence of public services, life has got organised. Do It Yourself has developed in all kinds of ways: urban community farms, soup kitchens, street lights installed around a neighbourhood, or new forms of design using recycled materials just to mention a few initiatives. Little by little, the city is coming back to life: new restaurants and galleries, the construction of a tramway, a shopping centre, hype stores, ambitious urbanism projects and more. Is Detroit’s Renaissance still just a utopia? In Lille, Detroit will occupy the Gare Saint Sauveur.

Now internationally recognised as a crucible of innovation and creativity, Eindhoven is a city that reinvented itself through new technologies, design and light after the Philips crisis. The birthplace of the famous light bulb manufacturer, Eindhoven prospered in the era of industrialisation and the resulting proliferation of factories (textiles, tobacco) saw its population grow steadily. The 1990s were a pivotal decade: difficulties forced Philips to move its headquarters to Amsterdam, a decision that had farreaching consequences for the city. Eindhoven then delved into its industrial heritage, a heritage characterised by constantly renewed innovation and creativity, and gave itself a second life through design, light and high-tech technologies. Buoyed by these new dynamics, Eindhoven today continues to redefine the avant-garde, through Dutch Design Week, its many design studios, the GLOW light art festival, the STRP digital arts biennale, or new urban initiatives (phosphorescent bike paths). Eindhoven serves as a model: the epitome of a successful Renaissance through design and innovation.

Seoul is the face of South Korea’s astonishing transformation: between 1960 and 1990, the population of this giant city, now one of the largest and densest metropolises in the world, swelled from 2.5 to more than 10 million people. Its Renaissance is that of the “Korean economic miracle” by which this nation abruptly broke with its past to embark on a path of intense and rapid modernisation. This immense collective effort, a forced and profound transformation initiated under a dictatorship and continued by a democratic regime, has made South Korea into a true economic power, one of the four Asian dragons. Seoul, the complex, restless, dynamic mirror of this hypermodernity, was one of the country’s most rapidly transformed cities, as evidenced by its famous Gangnam district, which was created from nothing on the south bank of Han River and which today, with its wide avenues, prestigious buildings and luxury shops, has become the richest area in the Korean metropolis, as parodied by the singer Psy in his hit “Gangnam Style”. Seoul remains a city of contrasts, a composite, urban metropolis in which the traditional past, the technological future and the present all mix. The fast pace of the city and its development gives way in many places to a slow and quiet life. Indeed, Seoul now wants to shake its reputation as a “hard” city and cultivate a softer image, but also one that is more environmentally friendly than that of its big Chinese neighbour, for example by redeveloping the Cheonggye underground river to make it an open-air promenade in the middle of the business district. Or with the cultural district of Samcheongdong, which abounds in small cafes, museums and art galleries. For Seoul offers a vast array of cultural attractions, with a particular focus on current artistic creation: large museums, stunning private foundations, cutting-edge art centres and more. Its own art scene is extremely lively, boasting a long pictorial tradition that has been significantly shaken up by the innovative forms of contemporary art. In what ways does the city of Seoul inspire Korean and international artists, and in return, what diffracted and multi-faceted vision do visual artists offer us of the city?

The capital of Cambodia is the only example in modern times of a city that has been emptied of its inhabitants by decree and that for almost four years remained a practically deserted city. Given that 90% of its artists and intellectuals disappeared between 1975 and 1979, it is spectacular to find such a concentration of high-level artists in this small country today. Today we are witnessing the renaissance of the city through urbanisation, tourism and art. We are in the presence of three generations: the survivors, those born after the Pol Pot regime in the early 80s, and the very young, who are more politicised and radical. The creative power of Cambodian artists is expressed through all media: videos, performances, photographs, sculpture and so on. Once famed as an artistic capital throughout Southeast Asia, Phnom Penh is beginning to regain a touch of its past splendour thanks to a dynamic generation. The image of Angkor, located 200 kilometres away, the French colonial past, and the trauma of the Khmer Rouge invasion all feature in the artists’ work, as do very contemporary topics related to the redevelopment of the Cambodian capital. The artistic revival has begun.

The opening celebration in Lille will recreate the atmosphere of Brazilian Carnivals. In order to construct the Opening Parade, a large, collaborative Brazil-themed project is already in preparation with community groups, dance schools, residents of Lille Métropole, conservatories and music schools, batucadas, as well as brass and accordion bands. They will rehearse for several months with specialised musicians and choreographers. The preparation time will be punctuated by moments of discovery and shared training, as well as “pre-carnival” rehearsals. The groups that are created will also perform after the festivities during the Renaissance highlights organised in Lille neighbourhoods and the towns of Lille Métropole.

DUNDU

At the heart of the big parade, Brazilian floats, brass bands, batucadas and dancers will make hearts beat and hips swing to the rhythms of Rio, Recife or Sao Paulo. Featuring Frevo, Samba, Forro, electronica, DJs and VJs from Detroit, Idiotape and Korean drummers from Seoul. Poetic and magical, the aerial show by Theatre Tol lifts us up among the angels to a dream world between heaven and earth. To bring things to a close, Group F, the creators of the most beautiful fireworks displays in the world, will illuminate the sky with their flamboyant pyrotechnics.

ALL ABOARD: Brazilian dances in Lille neighbourhoods! Since the end of April, residents have been preparing for the Big Opening Parade on 26 September: Brazilian dance workshops with Brasil Afro Funk, accessory making, Do It Yourself, make-up bar, cariocas selfies, glitter and more. A weekly appointment has been set in every district of Lille: Maison Folie Wazemmes, Grand Sud, Centre Social Faubourg de Béthune, Centre Social Saint Maurice Pellevoisin, Espace Brossolette in Bois-Blancs, and so on.

Séoul, vite, vite ! 26 SEPT. 2015 > 17 JAN. 2016 tripostal, LILLE In 40 years, thanks to tremendous collective and individual efforts, South Korea has accomplished its “economic miracle”: whereas it was once one of the poorest countries in the world, today it has become a world economic power and one of the four Asian dragons. Its capital, Seoul, is the complex, restless, dynamic mirror of this accelerated hyper-modernity, while remaining a place where the attachment to traditions remains very strong. Through numerous works by contemporary artists, the exhibition Séoul, vite, vite ! seeks to immerse the visitor in the energy, dynamism and hypermodernity of Seoul. While also leaving room for the tensions and contradictions underscoring this booming society. The title of the exhibition is the French translation of the very common Korean expression “Seoul, bbali, bbali”, or in English “Seoul, quick, quick”. This simplesounding expression has a double meaning: while initially coming across as joyful and dynamic, it also evokes an overly rapid modernisation, a source of hastiness, superficiality, errors and accidents. This ambiguity therefore leaves room in the exhibition for tensions and the critical questioning of a city always in a furious rush. The artist Choi Jeong Hwa, an emblematic figure of the current dynamism of South Korea, will take over the entrance of the Tripostal, plunging us into his “happy”, multi-coloured pop world largely inspired by the workingclass markets his hometown. In contrast, the rest of the ground floor is devoted to the more fantastic world of Choe U-Ram: his mechanical creatures, infernal carousel and huge ball of light made out of car headlights will give the visitor the most dreamlike vision of a megalopolis in fusion. Far from being a documentary or urban exhibition, Séoul, vite, vite ! is envisaged as a visual representation of the South Korean megalopolis. The upper floor of the Tripostal will host Lee Bul, another major figure in contemporary Korean art and a pioneer of female art that is critical of Korean society. She occupies an entire space with a landscape-installation, Civitas Solis II, shimmering between enchanting utopia and apocalyptic ruin. In contrast, the emerging artist Soyoung Chung proposes a fractured geological landscape running through the space, reminiscent of

the great theme of Korean culture and cinema: rupture, which is always an implicit reference to the separation between North Korea and South Korea. This problem will also be evoked through the photographs of the young Seung Woo Back and by a series of historical images. As a result, Seoul will appear to us as a complex organism, whose obvious renaissance is subject to both cumulative and contradictory forces. With Moon Kyungwon and Jeonho Joonho’s film q0, representing Korea next May at the 2015 Venice Biennale, the exhibition will combine the temporalities of the traditional past, the technological future and the present. Whereas the young artist Jungki Beak is highly characteristic of the younger generation that is oriented more towards environmental concerns.

Tu dois changer ta vie is an exhibition conceived of as an artistic journey, an experience for the visitor to go through to discover new forms, new sounds, and proposals for lifestyles and ways of being.

The visit is designed as a game of chance or choices: a game that resembles life. The use of several entrances disperses visitors on different trajectories. Discovery, surprising or disconcerting connections, challenges, the invitation to surpass oneself, dead ends and detours will all be part of the visitor’s itinerary. Immersed in the heart of an experience in which he or she will serve as raw material and provide its inherent strength, the visitor will follow his or her own personal or collective dynamic path. “You must change your life!” is an exhibition that invites you to defy gravity so as to keep yourself in active suspension.

Based on the five conditions set out by the historian Réné Remond as necessary for the identification of a phenomenon of “renaissance”, the exhibition proposes six “exercises” (acts of asceticism) questioning: - the emergence of the new means of dissemination and communication - the scientific reading of fundamental texts - the honouring of a past culture - the revival of exchanges - the new representations of the world at the dawn of the twenty-first century. This exhibition does not restrict itself to artistic proposals, but explores disciplines and topics as diverse as scientific progress, physics, philosophy, attention to nature, concern for healthy eating, breathing, meditation, magic, new technologies, perception and physical training, with these six, simultaneously spiritual, physical or schizoid “exercises” aiming to achieve selftransformation. Détroit 26 SEPT. 2015 > 17 JAN. 2016 gare saint sauveur, LILLE La Gare Saint Sauveur will host a major exhibition devoted to Detroit, notably featuring a collaboration with MOCAD, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, which is located in rapidly regenerating centre of the city. Inspired as he is by the perpetual motion of space-time and the life cycles of decline and rebirth, Scott Hocking, an iconic, internationally recognised artist, is the image of his city. At the Gare Saint Sauveur he will take over a disused part of Hall B with a monumental installation made of railway sleepers, in direct reference to the history of the site, and recreate the unusual world of his studio, a space of work and life. The photographer Steve Shaw is an insatiable and meticulous observer entirely devoted to Detroit. He will present black and white and colour series of the multiple facets of the former Motor City, a gradually depopulated city where rare collective street scenes take on a particularly intense tone. The artist Corine Vermeulen photographs her neighbours in their urban environment where nature has reasserted itself, in a similar spirit to the choreographed monologue by video artist Oren Goldenberg, while the couple Adam Miller and Nicola Kuperus, skilled in mixing genres and the comedy of repetition, propose an off-the-wall video in which they are the protagonists. In a radically opposite style, the visual artist Jason Yates will cover the walls in large, colourful, kitsch tarpaulins that are entirely representative of the work done in several artist studios in Detroit, and AJ Fosik will present his pop- and mythology-inspired totems. Working from raw materials (glass, copper) recovered from the abandoned factories of Detroit, the architect Catie Newell will produce two large installations, symbols of reminiscences of the phoenix city, and Greg Fadell will transform Hall A into an industrial cathedral. Another essential figure of Detroit’s creative energies, John Dunivant will reproduce part of his Theatre Bizarre, an immense burlesque masquerade now famous beyond US borders. The same desire for festive sharing is reflected in Corrie Baldauf’s Filtres d’optimisme (Optimism Filters), made up of large plates of coloured

plexiglass that let people see life in pink, green or blue while out for a walk in Saint Sauveur or in the streets of Lille. Major Detroit myths such as the Leland Hotel, now one of the most dangerous squats in the city centre, or the psychedelic world of Destroy All Monsters, a punk-rock group founded in the 70s around Mike Kelley, will take over the space.

Finally, the French artists Aurélien Vernhes-Lermusiaux and Jean-François Rauzier, who set off to explore Detroit, will provide an outside view on the city. One, a videographer, resurrects the ghosts of ruined facades, while the other, an inventor of hyper-photography, shows us a city oscillating between the past and futuristic projections in Balade Detroit.

URBAN FARM / FARM FOR CHANGE FROM 15 APRIL 2015 gare saint sauveur & LILLE NEIGHBOURHOODS April 15 next will mark the launch of the urban farm at the Gare Saint Sauveur in Lille, a project initiated by lille-design and Design for Change, in conjunction with lille3000 and the City of Lille. The first Design For Change/Lille laboratory Design for Change in partnership with lille-design run an annual international design competition. Some of the projects submitted in the competition have been selected to be implemented in Lille Métropole. One such project, an above-ground, mobile urban farm will be set in the heart of the city of Lille, on the empty plot adjacent to the Gare Saint Sauveur. This future oasis of agriculture will run an awareness programme to inform local people about the origin of the produce that ends up on their plates. The project will be accessible to all and notably feature a kitchen garden planted with nonhybrid fruit and vegetable seeds from little-known or forgotten varieties, but also display prototypes of new materials developed by researchers that are made out of mushrooms, hives or nettles, which are wonderful textile resources. Among other activities, this “Farm for Change” laboratory will aim to cultivate the biodiversity of the Saint Sauveur plot and also, more experimentally, to demonstrate that producing from natural resources represents an inexhaustible source of research and innovation. From April 15, come discover the seed counter, a distribution point for non-hybrid seeds. Replant your cuttings at the Gare Saint Sauveur during the kitchen garden festival on 30 and 31 May 2015. The Saint Sauveur urban farm/Farm for change will be inaugurated as part of the Renaissance event on 26 September 2015 and will also extend to different Lille neighbourhoods. A jointly funded project lille-design and Design for Change, in partnership with the Renaissance event organised by lille3000 and the City of Lille are co-financing the Saint Sauveur urban farm. The lille3000 teams and the City of Lille’s parks and gardens service will be responsible for its maintenance. The farm was designed by a consortium of participants: students from the Versailles school of landscaping – whose project focuses on the protection of Lille’s plant heritage, which is fated to disappear in the course of

the development of the site, students from the Head School in Geneva (water projects), the ISA, and Lille school of arts and crafts. Local organisations such as Les Saprophytes, the MRES and the Jardins de Cocagne provided their invaluable expertise. Other projects from the Design for Change/Lille competition will be implemented in the farm in the coming months and years. The culmination of over three years’ work Every year, lille-design, in partnership with Design for Change and the competing schools, organises an international competition in Lille Métropole where the goal is to propose ideas to sustain the long-term human inhabitation of the planet and to incite citizens to get actively involved in their cities. In 2015, projects resulting from this competition are being tested out in two palces: the Gare Saint Sauveur in Lille and Le Pile in Roubaix.

THE SMALLEST DISCOTHEQUE IN THE WORLD FANNY BOUYAGUI - ART POINT M 26 SEPT. 2015 > 17 JAN. 2016 - gare saint sauveur, LILLE Fanny Bouyagui knows Detroit well, having visited it several times. She has imagined a shipping container converted into the smallest discotheque in the world, a space in which the Gare Saint Sauveur will host clubbers in (very) small groups. This is designed as a participatory performance in which the audience can become masters of the dance floor by going behind the decks to mix a 100% Detroit playlist. The walls will display videos and images of the first DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) founded by Carl Craig, which for 15 years attracted the best artists of the electronic scene. A total immersion in the world of the Motor City, the birthplace of techno – due to feature during this year’s N.A.M.E festival.

cariocas! 26 SEPT. 2015 > 17 JAN. 2016 maison folie wazemmes, LILLE CARIOCAS! plunges us into the heart of the city of Rio, its atmospheres and its inhabitants. Here more than in any other metropolis, the street is the place where the energies are released and people freed of social determinism. A shared space and the scene of more or less spontaneous informal events, the street reflects the attachment of the cariocas to a society and an urbanism that is in perpetual motion. Truly an outdoor city, Rio is defined by the relationship between its hills and beaches as well as the duality between the city centre neighbourhoods and the 900 favelas constantly expanding around it, in which more than one third of the population lives. Its particularly vibrant social fabric is founded on singular and collective practices. Popular festivals, policed streets or major events (Carnival, 2014 World Cup, 2016 Olympic Games), Rio is a unique model of urban and community organisation. The exhibition will host the work of Mauricio Dias and Walter Riedweg, a genuine immersion into Rio, its landmarks, festivals and favelas. Without overlooking the social tensions linked to the government’s policy of pacification, the artists testify to the strange transformation of the landscape and the urban grid. In addition, a special invitation has also been made to A Gentil Carioca, the first gallery in Rio to have exhibited young cariocas artists. Truly atypical, A Gentil Carioca is a space of experimentation and exchange, asserting freedom of expression as a social and political lever that speaks of the street, to which it gives form through installations and performances. Founded in 2003, the gallery is now represented in the biggest international contemporary art fairs but remains true to its founding values and ideals. The subversive collages of Guga Ferraz, the OPAVIVARÁ! collective’s world of Copacabana and Ipanema beach vendors, or the constellations of João Modé illustrate the spirit and inventiveness of a whole new generation of artists. The favelas, an fundamental feature of Rio since the 19th century, will be represented by the works of the famous urban planner Jorge Mario Jauregui. For several years now, he has been working on their integration into the rest of the city by taking account of their geographical

and social specificities, such as the “German” cable car project that now links 12 favelas to each other, rendering them less isolated. For the exhibition, a favela housing unit will be specially produced, questioning the place of private space in relation to the constraints of a uniform, overcrowded and hyper-militarised public space. The immense Maré favela, a stronghold of drug trafficking, will feature strongly through the vision of favela youths initiated in film photography, which they use to document their daily lives. In addition, major Brazilian artists recently exhibited in Maré’s new contemporary art centre, Travessias, will be hosted: Dora Longo Bahia and his paintings depicting the violence of the military juntas, or the Imagens do Povo collective, the first free photography school established in the favelas.

Its activities multiplied and its population increased until the 1990s, when the city was hit by a far-reaching economic and social crisis: Philips moved to Amsterdam, factories closed, hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs. Today Eindhoven has succeeded in reinventing itself through what made its reputation in the last century: innovation and creativity. It found new momentum through the development of new technologies, design and light, and now embodies the success of an economic, social and artistic renaissance. Now recognised as an international capital of design, Eindhoven has successfully converted its former factories into workshops at the cutting edge of technology, where designers from all around the world meet and share their expertise. Furthermore, it founded the renowned Design Academy School and annually presents the best of Dutch designers during the Dutch Design Week. Installations, workshops and performances will take over the space that will be entirely redesigned as a place of creation and exchange that is perpetually active and changing. Dutch artists in residence, such as Bart Hess, will be able to meet and develop joint projects with makers* from Lille Métropole. A FabLab will be set up to familiarise the public with 3D printers, laser cutting and digital milling machines and have them take part in the evolution of artistic projects. Furthermore,

EDF LOW CARBON COMPETITION 2015 TRANSFORMATION OF A LILLE NEIGHBOURHOOD BY 2050 1 DEC. 2015 > 15 JAN. 2016 For the seventh edition of its low carbon competition, the EDF remains true to the theme of the “sustainable transformation of the city” by projecting, for the first time, the development of an existing Lille neighbourhood up to 2050. This approach makes it a perfect fit with RENAISSANCE. The competition aims to study the transformation of a neighbourhood by looking into the future and taking climate change and the constraints of reducing greenhouse gas emissions into account.

phnom penh 26 SEPT. 2015 > 17 JAN. 2016 musée de l’hospice comtesse, LILLE On 17 April 1975, the Khmer Rouge soldiers entered Phnom Penh and in three days emptied the city at the time inhabited by a million and a half people. The capital became almost a ghost town until the Vietnamese troops took control in January 1979. Today, the city is experiencing a deep-reaching and chaotic transformation against a background of real estate speculation, corruption, uncontrolled development, and the destruction of architectural heritage... It is in this context that a rich art scene appeared, in which it is fascinating to see how three generations coexist and implicitly interact. The survivors, who never left the country and those who returned after forced exile. Then the generation born after Pol Pot, almost thirty today, who are deeply marked by the genocide. And then very young, who travel, are increasingly uninhibited, curious, cultured, rebels in their own way and at the same time attached to their culture, which they assert. Whether painters, filmmakers, photographers, video artists, designers, sculptors, graphic artists or street performers, they all question identity. A permanent tension between cultural tradition (in the choice of materials, the iconic references, references to traditional forms) and an incontestable anchoring in contemporary reality runs through all this work. While three internationally recognised Cambodian artists (Sopheap Pich, Rithy Panh, Leang Seckon) are represented in the exhibition, the bulk of it features artists never or rarely seen outside Cambodia, with recent works, some of which have not been previously exhibited.

The young artist Lim Sokchanlina deals with the modernity of the country in opposition to the clichés that still persist, while the photographer Pha Lina works on Cambodian social issues, notably addressing current problems such as the consequences of urban redevelopment on inhabitants and their territory. Together they raise the question of how one can be Cambodian in a country that barely twenty years ago was completely destroyed after forty years of conflict, and how we can look to the future while the country is caught up in headlong consumerism under an authoritarian regime.

Textifood, the most recent of the Futurotextiles exhibitions, present fibres made from plant or animal sources, whose non-edible by-products are used to create textiles. The aim of this exhibition is to showcase the range of synergies possible between food production and textiles. These fibres come from all continents. They are studied worldwide by researchers to find solutions for the needs of an increasingly responsible world. Textifood echoes the theme of the Milan 2015 Universal Exhibition “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. To illustrate the qualities of the frequently little-known fabrics made from these fibres, lille3000 has called on artists, designers and stylists aware of the need for an

PANORAMA 17 19 SEPT. > 13 DEC. 2015 LE FRESNOY, TOURCOING The exhibition Panorama 17 promises to be a plunge into a parallel world, a skewed look at the lines of tension and convergence that make it incredibly complex, desirable, unstable (politically/socially/spiritually), in short perpetually evolving. 52 artists (filmmakers, visual artists, composers, choreographers, etc.), create a work in the collective space of Le Fresnoy’s production studios. These magnetic wonders will be presented at Le Fresnoy, described in the words chosen by the artists themselves as metamorphoses, brain waves, hallucinations, morphing, and other utopian terms. These single machines and film worlds take us on a journey from Lebanon to Colombia, Austria to Iran, and from the south of the Avesnois region to dense Amazon forest, allowing us to enter new worlds.

L’USINE DE FILMS AMATEURS de michel gondry 03 OCT. 2015 > 15 noV. 2015 la condition publique, roubaix After New York, Paris or Tokyo, Michel Gondry’s Home Movie Factory takes up residence at La Condition Publique, a cultural incubator located in Roubaix. The Home Movie Factory asks members of the public to come and create their own movie in 3 hours, following a simple protocol, designed by Michel Gondry, in a specially recreated film studio. 16 different sets (metro, cafe, video shop and so on), cameras, costumes and all kinds of props are supplied. In the manner of the protagonists of the director’s film Be Kind Rewind, people work in small group to make a film from A to Z in record time!

CHAGALL, de la palette au métier 24 OCT. 2015 > 31 JAN. 2016 MUba, TOURCOING In his search for authenticity in colour and material, Chagall’s imagination explored all registers of the visual arts. The expressive power of his work, inhabited by an innate sense of composition and a deep narrative freedom, adapted remarkably to a wide variety of artistic languages and scales of execution.

This exhibition, recognised of national interest in 2014 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Troyes by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, is being redesigned for presentation at the MUba in Tourcoing, in partnership with Chagall, Les Sources de la Musique at La Piscine in Roubaix.

Chagall’s production of tapestries is an aspect of his work that remains largely unknown to the general public. This exhibition provides an overview of the main themes in Chagall’s work, highlighting the collaboration between the artist and the master craftswoman Yvette CauquilPrince (1965-1985) or with the Manufacture des Gobelins (1968-1973). It confronts a set of tapestries woven by Yvette Cauquil-Prince to the Chagall lithographs and paintings that served her as models. The work done with the Manufacture des Gobelins will also be represented by two tapestries, one made by Chagall for the Knesset and one for the National Museum in Nice, alongside original works by the artist.

TAPESTRIES: wall and floor, up and down, TAPESTRIES intertwine over the course of the MUba’s PERMANENT/ TEMPORARY COLLECTIONS, reorganised around carpets and tapestries that question modern and contemporary artistic creation.

CHAGALL, LES SOURCES DE LA MUSIQUE 24 OCT. 2015 > 31 JAN. 2016 la piscine, roubaix Music is a theme that strongly marks the work of Chagall, whether in the elements that make up his visual universe or in the various stages of the construction of his artistic identity. Raised in the Hasidic tradition, Chagall is very sensitive to the sacred meaning of music, so it is natural that he included this reference in his work from the early stages of his career. The exhibition is conceived of as the third part of a unique tribute to Chagall that the Roubaix museum initiated in 2007 (ceramics) and continued in 2013 (volume). This new project has been devised in partnership with the National Museum of Music and has been divided into two parts to be presented simultaneously in Paris and in Roubaix.

The Roubaix component is entitled Les Sources de la Musique (The Sources of Music), in reference to one of the two large decorative panels designed by Chagall in 1967 for the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Art Center in New York. The companion piece, The Triumph of Music, lends its title to the Paris exhibition. This exhibition will express the role played by music in the advent of pictorial modernity in the early 20th century and its essential place in all stages of Chagall’s evolution and renewal in the construction of his oeuvre. A true sign of renaissance – both universal and intimate – here music provides a new key to reading the life and work of an artist who is at once iconic and singular. Curator: Bruno Gaudichon

AZUMA MAKOTO / Alessio Orrù 13 nov. 2015 > JAN. 2016 MAISON FOLIE LE COLYSÉE, LAMBERSART Azuma Makoto is a Japanese florist who has become a floral artist, composing bouquets in his studio located in the Minami Aoyama district of Tokyo. His works, which are made up of varieties from all around the world, are photographed by Shunsuke Shiinoki. For RENAISSANCE, Makoto Azuma will create a new floral sculpture at Le Colysée. In addition, his compositions will decorate the main boulevards of Mouvaux. O.B.P. ART 3D is an interactive installation accompanied by a form workshop/laboratory. It invites viewers/interactors on a virtual exploration of the drawing Organica Bismuth 3D Equilibrio, asking them to lose themselves in the maze and discover its hidden aspects. They can then extract a fragment of their choice, the drawing becoming a catalogue of forms, and turn it into a sculpture to be printed in 3D. In this way the work is reborn by the hand of the spectator/ interactor.

MICROCOSME / LES YEUX D’ARGOS 16 & 17 oct. 2015 - sainT-ANDRÉ-LEZ-LILLE In their work, Les Yeux d’Argos draw viewers into sensory experiences. For this piece, they create an envelope of light and sound that transforms space into an electrical landscape and a poetic universe. It uses an unprecedented set design, with videos covering space in 360 degrees by projecting their movement onto trees, mirrors and fountains. They diffract into fragments to reveal a sense of the cosmos. Sound courses through the installation, encircling the viewer. The light is constantly reborn through the surrounding objects, multiplying physical phenomena. Space is no longer tangible but sensory. The aesthetics and rhythm developed in the piece bring about a state of contemplation. Based on their research into staging video images and sound, Les Yeux d’Argos have created several immersive works: Brume3, LightHouse and Abîmes.

The purpose of this piece is to create a parallel between the consistency of the building and its impact on its residents. It does this by transforming the very nature of the building and, in the course of this transformation, expressing the impact of these changes in the way the building is inhabited. The mutations are both physical and natural.

After being presented at the Gare Saint Sauveur in spring 2015, some of the pieces from the Art Garden exhibition will travel to Hem as part of the Renaissance programme.

Habitat is covered over by ice and invaded by vegetation; it is made of earth, water and fire... Through the windows and on the balcony, we see the people who live inside, they adapt, dress or undress following the seasons, plant in the ground, sculpt the ice... Habitat participates in the constant malleability of architectural metamorphosis. This work is a poetic reinterpretation of how to inhabit an apartment building.

New creations by the young art scene in Singapore invite the public to enter into a “garden” that is both playful and mysterious, an immersive atmosphere full of fantastical creatures.

Nicolas Wilmouth’s prints demonstrate sophisticated pictorial research, significant work on light and materials, as well as a particular focus on framing and composition. The presence of chiaroscuro and the series of portraits and modern vanities evoke 17th century Spanish and Flemish painting. His images maintain ambiguity, a certain blur between reality and fiction. This strange atmosphere invites the viewer to enter the picture so as to probe it fully.

THIERRY FOURNIER / sous-ensemble 26 SEPT. 2015 > 17 JAN. 2016 - église sainte marie madeleine, lille Using sound, the Sous Ensemble installation creates a dialogue with the presence of visitors by revealing a symphony orchestra tuning up, instrument by instrument.

Lucy + Jorge Orta have lived and work in Paris and Seine-et-Marne since 1992.

In a space reminiscent of a studio that has been left empty of its occupants (black floor, microphone stands, speakers, racks, etc.), the presence of visitors beside the consoles triggers, one by one, the sounds of the instruments being tuned – building up to the sound of the whole orchestra when a group of people fills the space. However, the tuning we hear doesn’t become music: it is maintained in perpetual suspense.

Five enormous, ethereal clouds will be suspended in the Gare Lille Flandres. Two initially created by the sculptor duo Lucy + Jorge Orta for Saint Pancras International Station in London, will be joined by three new clouds specially designed for RENAISSANCE.

In this mirror relationship between present visitors and absent musicians Sous Ensemble more largely evokes the birth of a collective action through the archetype of an orchestra: a group focused on a common goal, held together by the attention that each member pays to all the others. Production in collaboration with the Orchestre National de Lille.

The cosmos is as populous as the Earth, and life seems to be divinely good under this celestial vault. Just like the public places where Lucy + Jorge Orta design large meals, the clouds form a convivial space. In both cases, we are witnessing the “utopian” staging of a society momentarily or eternally reconciled in earthly or spiritual communion.

Designed and built by the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et de Paysage de Lille (ENSAPL) at the invitation of lille3000 Renaissance. The Pavillon Renaissance is a demonstrative and ephemeral construction built on the site of the Gare Saint Sauveur. It comprises sheltered outdoor areas along with an interior space, so as to be able to host public events as well as various activities: concerts, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, children’s games, and so on. The construction is composed of a main structure that takes the form of articulated gantries made out of LVL. The five upper joints of the gantries form sturdy triangles that cantilever the projection of the roof. Solid or engineered wood panels form the floor of the building. The vertical walls are filled with outdoor quality chipboard. The watertightness of the roof is ensured by a stretched textile canvas in which a central depression collects rainwater to supply exploratory plant boxes. These events seem to have marked the people of Wambrechies. Indeed, how sad it is to see a beautiful tree cut down! But then we can think of all the purposes a tree can serve, once felled. Building houses, warming hearts, making paper to draw on, write on and send... And the park is still there. New trees will be reborn, and with them a new look and new walks! Through this theme of the revival of spaces, the Compagnie Le Vent du Riatt proposes urban events with the participation of residents (via community groups and schools) that will highlight the need to keep an open mind on renewal. The show, a young audience production in 2015, is on the theme of the mental representation of the territory: what image do we form of the place where we live, or the places we discover? And you know what? Belinda the Explorer even invites you on a walk!

Art is in the street or the rush for Art? Panic has struck the world of painting. Agitation is at its peak among canvas motifs, whether abstract, still lifes, landscapes, portraits or genre scenes: why, on the pretext of being the very heart of a Work of Art, should a motif suffer eternal isolation between the four sides of its gold frame? The subjects of the paintings – the Personnitoiles – have taken to the streets to seek their replacements among the crowd. The Compagnie Le Vent du Riatt continues its work on territory, in conjunction with community groups and schools so as to involve residents in their events.

D.LIGHTS, LES LUMIères de détroit / 14 SEPT. > 3 OCT. 2015 la cave aux poètes, roubaix The city of Detroit, in the American state of Michigan, is famous for its heritage in various musical styles such as gospel, jazz, different currents of rock, but also rhythm and blues, soul and rap. Our Detroit focus will more generally be centred on the hip hop movement. This town has produced several emblematic, world-famous artists such as Eminem or Insane Clown Posse.

The project involves the creation of an artistic entity made up of both French and American artists from the Detroit scene, coupled with the screening of a quirky documentary about the city of Detroit, an exhibition, cultural activities and a concert, all leading to the release of an album at the end of August 2015 incorporating the vision of French artists on the renewal of the Detroit hip hop scene.

In this surreal situation of mayhem, objects find a new life and new owners! Since its inauguration, the World Forum for a Responsible Economy has been emphasising solutions to enable us to adapt to the considerable upheavals taking place in the world. This 9th edition will address the need to redefine growth, through four topics: new behaviours, new technology, new growth drivers and new business models. To develop these topics, the World Forum has called on many speakers of international stature in a programme articulated around different formats, namely lectures, interactive workshops run by experts, thematic lunches and networking times.

CITÉ PHILO How can we speak of Renaissance in times of distress? It is always in gloomy periods or difficult contexts that the “hope principle” must shine. But in order not to deny reality, we must find within it embers to blow on and sparks to bring together. Can we make out the outline of renaissance around us?

At a time when questions of development and densification are a key concern of policy makers, Project City is a discussion forum in which to compare experiences and practices for sustainable cities, to discover new projects, and to identify and anticipate the problems of tomorrow. The 2015 edition of Project City forum is part of lille3000’s “Renaissance” programme that will take place in Lille and throughout 75 municipalities of the Eurodistrict. This programme is consistent with the new challenges and needs of the city as addressed by Project City, centred on the renaissance cities are undergoing today.

The World Forum will be joining the lille3000 programme with a special session on Renaissance featuring testimonials from businesses that are reinventing growth in the cities of Detroit, Eindhoven, Pnomh Penh, Rio de Janeiro and Seoul.

RENAISSANCE resonates with resistance and resilience. We must therefore clarify what it is we are resisting and identify the French malaise today. Philosophy is also about thinking one’s own time. What are we experiencing? What is happening to us? Part of the 2015 edition will be devoted to the question of understanding. A question that puts aside facile lamentation and enthusiasm.

RENAISSANCE: SOURCES OF INSPIRATION Médiathèque départementale du Nord A group of librarians from Lille Métropole gathered together by the Médiathèque Départementale du Nord is currently working on compiling selections of documentary resources on Renaissance themes. These selections will be published on the VOTRE RENAISSANCE (YOUR RENAISSANCE) web platform in the course of 2015. They are intended as a source of inspiration for all.

For the 2015 edition, the artists have been asked to ponder the question of resistance. Resisting is the action of confronting, of standing up, of obstructing, of opposing a force, of persisting. Resistance therefore is the sign of a refusal, but beyond that, also an affirmation, a stance. It evokes a force upon which someone draws and which someone wields. Here, young artists offer their interpretation of what resistance means in contemporary creation. This concept of resistance takes on a particular dimension when it is attached to matter. Resistance is physical, geological or electric. It ultimately describes what lies at the foundations of the work of the artist: the struggle with matter. How does the artist shape, alter, change, orient, compose or perhaps renounce when faced with different materials? Resistance is a commitment, a desire to manifest opposition by imagining another future, another world. Resistance is therefore eminently political. What does it mean for an artist today to resist? Is art a weapon?

nuit des bibliothèques 17 OCT. 2015 / lille & EURODISTRICT Renaissance will honour libraries on 17 October 2015 with the second edition of La Nuit des Bibliothèques (Library Night). The programme will feature exhibitions, readings, debates, performances and screenings related to a reading and this year’s theme: Games. The event will be held under the patronage of the writer Marie Darrieussecq, who will share her passion for literature with us. The Bibliothèque Jean Lévy will have special late openings for this event and will present a special RENAISSANCE programme featuring the Délit Maille exhibition (February > December 2015), the Book Fair, and Bibliobox et Bal by the

Tormis ensemble. On the same model, the media libraries of all Lille districts will remain open until 7 pm during the neighbourhood events and propose readings, debates, a “Steam Punk” exhibition, and so on. Délices de la Lys/Great River Delights (De Grote Verleieding) is about Kortrijk and its region celebrating the end of 20 years of work on the Lys river. This extensive renovation has given Kortrijk a facelift and the city now boasts a widened Lys, seven new bridges, broad walks and a number of delightful parks on the banks, and has rekindled its relationship with water. So it was high time to propose a festive project, including an opening show on 23 May 2015 and a closing concert on 25 September 2015.

From 2 August to 13 September 2015, time to head to Western Hainaut for a profusion of public, federating and free events!

The Lys is the main artery of the Belgian art scene: literature, architecture and painting. The FLUX art trail proposes a selection of contemporary artists with amazing installations, intriguing photos and new paintings. From 4 July, the art trail will start in Broel 6 and take visitors to very specific locations along the Lys. Great River Delights also focuses on the Lys’ many metamorphoses in Kortrijk and the region. Metamorphoses XL informs residents and visitors about the history of the Lys region and its future developments: urban planning, green spaces, industry and industrial conversion, recreational areas and so on.

The ultimate territory when it comes to cooperation, the Western Hainaut was awarded the official title of “Partner Territory” to the European Capital of Culture 2015 in Mons, alongside 17 partner cities in Belgium and France. The “400 Coups” (400 Blows) is above all a state of mind, a cultural dynamic specific to the Western Hainaut. It opens up to mild folly, audacity, emotion and grace, with the sky as its theatre, like a mirror held up to an unusual and surprising territory! Sometimes a ride through the air, sometimes the transhumance of Giants, sometimes night under the stars, sometimes a true and participative crazy concerto with all sorts of flying and ringing bells... In total, the programme features ten-sky events and thirty programmed activities to experience in the open, in the towns and countryside of the Western Hainaut, in universal settings such as a field, a forest, an urban centre, a church, a castle, a river, or a scrap of sky...

From capital to capital, Mons is proudly carrying the torch passed on by its 2004 partner. From the 24 January opening celebration, it was Lille that kicked off the Ailleurs en Folie cycle with Fanny Bouyagui and Art point M orchestrating an immersion that was offbeat to say the least. In the spring, the aficionados of the Gare Saint Sauveur can enjoy the fun of Mons with a 100% Belgian evening. Mons and Lille will also be opening their autumn programmes on a common theme: RENAISSANCE. In Mons, RENAISSANCE is first and foremost a look back on a golden age remembering the city as the birthplace of iconic figures still renowned throughout Europe. A clamour of 700 voices will sing the works of Roland de Lassus, a sumptuous feast will be held in honour of Jacques Du Broeucq and the myth of Saint George will be

revisited by contemporary artists at Mac’s. RENAISSANCE also means REVOLUTION with this new momentum injected in to the entire city, a creative effervescence that is being harnessed by the youth of Mons. Flying banners for utopias, they will march in the streets to defend their ideals with Mons/My Ideal. And, all through this capital year, RENAISSANCE will we be marked by exceptional moments: the artistic creations of Joël Pommerat, Jaco Van Dormael or Saule, literary happenings, digital cafes, and gargantuan events taking place throughout the whole region. In Lille and Mons, the European Capital of Culture will enjoy one last highlight in honour of new worlds and renewed cities.

Every inhabitant will be able to embark for Rio and dance samba reggae, take part in the Opening Parade, discover places in his/her neighbourhood in a new light, strut their stuff to Motown rhythms at Renaissance Balls or explore the biodiversity of their neighbourhood and grow vegetables right next to where they live.

PREPARATION FOR THE PARADE Brazilian music and dance, costume design, make-up bar, cariocas selfies and glitter! Starting from May, all Lille neighbourhoods will be going Brazilian and inviting residents to prepare for the big Opening Parade celebration on 26 September 2015. The Mobile Museum for Children is going on tour in the 10 districts of Lille!

In conjunction with the culture department of the City of Lille, and following the same model as the balls in Fives, a Renaissance ball will be organised in every neighbourhood.

L’Art à l’Enfance presents its Mobile Museum, designed to take art to where children live. This traveling museum takes the form of a container loaded onto a truck that transforms by opening into four distinct sections, each immersing children in a different world: painting, sculpture, installation, video, design and more.

These balls, organised in cooperation with local community groups, will take place in the cultural venues of your neighbourhoods, and all through Renaissance transport you into the heart of bustling cities: Detroit and Motown, Rio and Samba, Séoul and K-pop.

Urban walks Transformations, the construction of urban amenities, the creation of green areas... In the image of Renaissance, many Lille neighbourhoods have undergone significant urban changes in recent years. In order to highlight the renewal of Lille, urban walks will be organised in different districts of Lille from September 2015, revealing you your neighbourhoods in a new light.

Cafés Renaissance At the heart of Lille neighbourhoods, different places will be turned into “Renaissance cafés”: places of meeting and exchange, these “cafés” will welcome artists’ collectives, local community groups, music companies, etc. from Tuesday to Sunday, providing a genuine condensed version of Renaissance. 5 ORGANISE YOURSELVES! Much more than just an idea for an interactive project, lille3000 hopes that this PARTICIPATORY platform will generate a series of CONNECTIONS. All users who have deposited a Renaissance idea or who have liked a given idea will be listed in a database and tagged with different keywords (#hashtags). ART GARDEN is organised as part of the Singapore in France festival (Singapour en France – le festival, 26 March to 30 June 2015), which celebrates 50 years of diplomatic relations between the city-state of Singapore and France, as well as the 50th anniversary of the island’s Independence > www.singapourlefestival.com. To mark the Singapore in France festival, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris will present the exhibition Archipel Secret from 27 March to 17 May 2015 and the MAC in Lyon the Open Sea exhibition from 17 April to 12 July 2015. The Singapore in France festival is co-organised by the National Heritage Board (Singapore), the National Arts Council (Singapore) and the French Institute. It is supported by the Singapore Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. The exhibition Art Garden is supported by the following suppliers: Ascott, Singapore Airlines Cargo and Wall Your Photos.

ART GARDEN will open the Spring 2015 season at the Gare Saint Sauveur with fifteen works from Singapore’s young art scene, presented by the National Heritage Board and lille3000. An immersive atmosphere charged with fantastic creatures invites the public to enter this playful and mysterious garden. New works will be produced in situ at the Gare Saint Sauveur, including a graffiti-fresco by Sheryo, sculptures by Daniel Yu, a video by Joo Choon Lin or an installation by Ryf Zaini.

1st may > 14 JUL. 2015 INSTITUT français milano - PALAZZO DELLE STELLINE, milan Milan 2015 is a Universal Exhibition incorporating completely new and innovative features thanks to a participatory process designed to federate the many actors in the project around a crucial theme: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. From 1 May to 31 October 2015, the Expo will host more than 130 participants on an outstanding exhibition site and is expecting over 20 million visitors. The France/Région Nord-Pas de Calais/Lille Europe/ Métropole Européenne de Lille Pavilion is part of the CITEXPO programme. This project designed by the France Pavilion in partnership with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Italy (CFCII), the French Institute Italy, Business France in Italy and Atout France, will be located in the Palazzo delle Stelline, an emblematic location in the heart of Milan, home to the French Institute in Milan. Adopting a playful style, this Pavilion will present the originality of Lille and its Eurodistrict, emphasising its lifestyle, culture, innovations and gastronomy.

TEXTIFOOD : Orange, lemon, pineapple, banana, coconut, nettle, seaweed, mushroom, coffee, rice, soy, corn, beet, wine, beer and shellfish... We eat them, drink them and weave them!

Futurotextiles, the exhibition created by lille3000, presents the world of textiles and its incredible diversity that encompasses fibres, weaving, composites and nonwovens. Its latest iteration, Textifood, is a response to the theme of the Universal Exhibition 2015 in Milan: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” The exhibition will present fibres that are principally derived from plants, part of which are edible and other parts of which are used to create textiles. To illustrate this frequently curious and little-known research, lille3000 has called on artists, designers and stylists to come up with spectacular creations.
