All Nations Night Saturday, August 18 @ 10:30pm ALSO THIS WEEK: Last Resort End of Season Closing Party • Grown & Sexy Hangover Pt. 2 • Avengers Summer Jam

This Week’s Feature Story

Quito – A Man For All Nations Quito Rymer is a true musical ambassador for the BVI, especially when it comes to using his talents to bring people together. All Nations Night is his new quarterly event with the aim of featuring DJs from around the world and the first of these nights will take place at Quito’s on Saturday 18th August from 10:30pm. Three DJs will be getting the party started with a bang – DJs Waggy T and Scotch Bonnett, both out of Miami and the popular Dr Dre from here in the BVI. When speaking to Quito about the new night, he said, “It seems these days, people really enjoy DJs and the whole meaning behind the All Nations Night is to bring all nationalities that live in the BVI together. We can see that the BVI is multi-cultural now, one big melting pot. The kind of services the island now offers means that there are people from all over and from different cultures living here. So as an entertainer, my music is always talking about everyone coming together, happiness, togetherness and people getting to know and understand each other better. This is just another step in trying to make sure that happens.” When asked why he chose these particular DJs for

the first All Nations Night, he said, “I chose these DJs because Waggy T is a really big name in the US and he is also Asian with Jamaican roots living in Miami, which is awesome. Scotch Bonnet is his partner also based out of Miami with Jamaican roots and they work together as a dual team playing reggae, roots rock, dancehall and soca music. Then we have DJ Dre who lives here in the BVI and plays similar music but also hip-hop and other US styles, he is hugely popular and people love his music.” In the future, Quito wants to keep inviting DJs from different parts of the world, not only the Caribbean region but from all over, including the UK, US, Canada and China. He summed up by saying, “ We want everyone to come together, and if we all come together and work together we can build a really beautiful BVI.” – Jan Critchley

Forever Summer It feels like just yesterday we were gearing up for the annual emancipation festivities and planning our holiday trips. Now it all seems like some distant past, I am not the only one that feels this way. I was out grabbing some lunch the other day and I overheard someone saying, “How the days going by so fast! It seems like school just closed the other day.” Hmm, I was thinking the same thing. But then I realized all I see on the television lately are back to school ads, so it must mean it’s almost time to get back in the groove of things. For the rest of us who have graduated to the working world summer holidays have no significant bearing on our daily routine. However, I will say the traffic coming into working in the mornings is much better and so I will miss summer and no school for this reason. Soon, most of the world will have to say farewell to summer in the coming months as the cold winter months start to approach. For those college students who return to school in cooler climates knowing that summer sun is just a plane ride away during those cold November days will make coming home for the holidays just a bit more special. I know it was comforting for me.

Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands. Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

There is something about summer that energizes you and makes everything seem brighter. For me having lived in a climate where summer lasts three months out of the year and the reminder of the months were either really cold or wet, I welcome summer with open arms. We are truly blessed because while the rest of the world will be saying good bye summer sun, we are saying good bye summer holidays. So, even though the season is almost over we are still able to enjoy this wonderful summer weather of sunshine all year round. Kind of like our own episode of the Disney channel animated series Phineas and Ferb. I call it “Forever Summer.”

Ask Koren Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!

ManAsk KeepsKoren Cheating Dear Koren, What is it with men that they have to cheat? I have been with a man for six years now and every time I find about his indiscretions, he ends it and is good for a while but then he does it again. It’s like he just can’t help himself. Should I just accept that is what men are like and just ensure he uses protection? Isn’t it foolish of me to keep expecting the impossible? – Realist Dear Realist, Let us set the record straight on a few things. Men do not have to cheat. All men do not cheat. If your partner has the tendency to step out on you, there is no onesize-fits-all reason for it or solution to fix the situation. He has to identify what his weaknesses and triggers are and work on them. It could be that it satisfies his ego to have multiple relationships, maybe he is easily bored and is seeking excitement, maybe his sexual needs are not being met at home, or it could just be that he likes variety. How many indiscretions has your partner had in the six year relationship? How do you keep finding out about them? How are you so sure that he ends them when you find out? There are lots of questions that you need to ask yourself to make a decision as to whether this relationship is working for you. The attitude of acceptance that it is okay for your partner to have an intimate relationship with other women is scary. You have to consider your

Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

needs also and question whether someone really loves you if they keep putting you at risk. Also, how much do you love yourself if you keep putting your needs for an exclusive honest relationship on the back burner? It is not foolish to expect to be treated fairly. While there are many things one can do in an attempt to affair-proof their relationship, it is the responsibility of both parties and not just one. For change to take place, your partner must come to the realization that he is hampering the relationship, hurting you and hurting the other women and he must make a decision to do things differently. He has to start the process of change by admitting he has a problem and seeking help. You can be supportive, but you cannot do it for him. Send your questions to askkoren@live.com, or follow us on twitter @korennorton and a response will be provided

The Change-Up Set in Atlanta, Mitch Planko (Ryan Reynolds) and Dave Lockwood (Jason Bateman) were inseparable best friends since third grade, but as the years have passed they've slowly drifted apart and now the two men could not be more different. Dave is the epitome of success. He is a driven and dedicated lawyer with a prestigious law firm where he has worked for ten years. He is working on an important merger that is almost certain to secure his partnership. A family man, he is married to the gorgeous Jamie Lockwood (Leslie Mann) and father of three children and really does seem to be living the dream. Mitch however, is single, reckless and an occasional actor in the soft porn industry. Mainly unemployed though, he is a quitter that never concludes anything that he starts out to do. One night, Dave and Mitch decide to meet up for old times sake and after an evening of drinking, they wish for each other's lives in front of a fountain in an Atlanta park. It’s a case of “be careful what you wish for” as when they awake the next morning, they discover that they have switched bodies. Horrified, they return to the square to try and undo the change only to find that the fountain has moved to an unknown place. So there is nothing left but for them to switch lives until they can locate the fountain and reverse the wish. It's a crucial week professionally for Dave, and Mitch has to take on the merger to protect

Dave’s job and impending promotion, and become a family man. Meanwhile, Dave is forced to carry out Mitch’s obligation, which involves starring in a low budget, soft porn film. Despite the freedom from their normal routines and habits, the guys soon discover that each other's lives are nowhere near as rosy as they once seemed. Further complicating matters are Dave's sexy legal associate, Sabrina (Olivia Wilde) and Mitch's estranged father (Alan Arkin) who is about to remarry. With time not on their side, Mitch and Dave comically struggle to avoid completely destroying each other's lives before they can find a way to get their old ones back. However, Mitch gets a shot at responsibility and Dave at relaxing, and they learn a lot about themselves and each other and that the grass is not always greener on the other side. 15

Finally, The Closing Act LONDON—Since I’d never seen an Olympic Games closing ceremony in three sojourns—two because I was a participant and last time skipping town early—I had no plans nor expectations but to finally rest my legs. But, there was no time to rest. For the first time, I learnt there was a pre-show and wondered what it was as I heard a band playing. “I’m sorry, but you’ll have to wait as they are doing final rehearsals,” we were told as we tried to The London skyline backdrop

Ever Eloquent, Tim Gunn Reflects On ‘Project Runway’ A: Those that involve nontraditional materials: the pet store, the hardware store. Q: When designers create outfits that are wacky — say the polka-dotted hot-pants jumpsuit with patent leather buckles in the season premiere fashion show in Times Square — it seems as if they have no interest in designing for women in their real lives. How do you advise them? A: I say to students, “Who is your client? And how content are you to have the very small market?” Q: Can you usually pick the winner? A: This is underscored by my teaching experience: I would make certain assumptions that were proven false. By challenge four, I have a pretty good idea. Q: How much time and advice do you give the designers? A: I have to give them space and distance, otherwise I would become this relentless nag. I like to be with them at fittings, before the runway shows. Q: Where did your mantra “make it work” come from? A: I’ve been saying “make it work” forever. Q: You seem to get along with all of the contestants, but has there been one who was the problem child? And what behavior in contestants bothers you? A: Kenley Collins of Season 5. She was belligerent. And when they are full of themselves and sassy, when I feel, “What is this person doing here?” It is all about attitude. Q: One of the reasons Project Runway is successful is that it crosses so many demographics. Why do you think this show appeals across gender, age and cultural groups? A: Generally speaking it is captivating and compelling to watch people who do something, who are doing what they want to do.

Tim Gunn, even after an incredibly long day, is the essence of a dapper gentleman. The mentor of Lifetime’s Project Runway surveys the contestants’ new lounge at Parsons School of Design, admires the huge photos of scenes from past seasons and settles in for a long talk. The Thursday show shoots at the Manhattan college where Gunn taught for 29 years. Among his missions as a teacher was that students learn the history of fashion and how it relates to whatever is going on in the world. He has an upcoming book on the history of fashion, and his philosophy as a teacher was quite similar to his as a mentor. It boils down to the three words that have become the show’s motto: “Make it work.” Q: Did you think Project Runway would last 10 seasons? A: I never expected it would go for two seasons — not to disparage the show. This is really surreal. Q: So many unscripted shows fail. Why do you think this lasted? A: Same reason for why as a teacher for 29 years, I was thoroughly engaged every year for 29 years. There was a new crop of students every year. What’s so compelling is I don’t know what they will produce. I don’t know what they will do. Q: What surprises you? A: Where they were at 7 o’clock and where they are now (several hours later). I look at their work. It is the embodiment of “make it work.” They are able to go from risk to pulling out great work. Q: Sometimes the clothes are just out there; at some point does it seem like all risk? A: The more avant-garde clothes, it’s who they are. Fashion is nothing if not subjective. Q: What designs do you know will not make it, and what drives you crazy? A: An inadequate presentation or sloppy work will not make it. Q: With all the challenges over the years, what has been the craziest? Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
