Get It Right This Saturday from 12–2pm at Speedy’s Conference Room (Virgin Gorda), it’s the Get It Right – The Power of Entertainment Workshop hosted by DJ Wiz Entertainment. If there was ever a time I felt like running away it was this past weekend. To make things worse, it was a holiday weekend, which means we had an extra day off. Poor me. I had so many personal things I wanted to accomplish, owing to the fact that I’m a great procrastinator. I set out on Saturday morning to finally start on my list. You would think I got at least a few done. Nope. Instead, when I finally got up out of bed on Saturday, I did breakfast for me and the kids and I ended up starting on the laundry. My little lady’s teacher sent a message in the class group chat informing us that the class picture day was changed to Tuesday, instead of Wednesday as previously scheduled. I manage to get my princess a slot to get her hair braided on Saturday afternoon. I imagined that the littlest one out of the house would give me room to get to that list I had been ignoring all along. But washing took forever and, on top of that, my son totally ignored me. Every time I opened my mouth he stuck his headphones deeper in his ears, getting boys to do their chores is such a hard task. As Sunday rolled around, I started thinking, okay, I’ll iron for the week and do some other things, so on Monday we could all just relax. Wishful thinking. How come when you start cleaning, you can always find more work to do? It’s like work just appears. Instead of giving me a break, there came my two, talking me to death (keeping me company as I folded laundry, or so they said). At dinner, we ate and chatted and eventually decided to watch a movie. To be honest I only felt when my daughter got up in the couch next to me, I can’t Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

tell you how the movie started or ended, since I had long fallen asleep. When we finally got to bed, I got a kiss and heard the sweetest voices saying we love you mommy. As Monday morning came around, I was hoarse from talking so much on Sunday. I swear they made a pact to torment me. My mom likes to say that they are keeping me young. At this point, I’m so ready to be old. Young ain’t where it’s at. Later in the evening we ended up at my mom and you wouldn’t believe the angelic behavior those two put on for their grand-mother. Those traitors. There’s no greater joy in knowing that your children are happy and that’s the most important thing to me. Just being near them brightens up my day and I’ve noticed they take joy in “tormenting” me. This too makes me smile because it takes me back to when I used to torment my mother and brothers. While writing this, I realized that we stayed in the house all weekend. So, the plan for this coming holiday weekend is to take them outdoors, take them to the park and let them get some fresh air. Dark’n Stormy

The Loyal West End Yacht Club presents the 23rd Dark’n Stormy Regatta from Friday – Monday. On Friday, the registration party is 6–8pm at Jeremey’s Kitchen. Then on Saturday, late registration is at 8:30am, followed by the Captain’s Meeting at 9am, both at Jeremy’s Kitchen. First Start will follow at 10am from Bellamy Cay. Devious Minds Chapter 19

After observing how the quietest of them had the gall to follow after what she wanted, Destiny decided it was time to put her thoughts into actions. In a couple hours there would be a faculty meeting and she was eager to prove how stupid Elizabeth was. For a few weeks, she noticed that while she was teaching her class, Elizabeth would come in and watch on. She never bothered asking her at any time why she was there. She figured since she took her speech, it was her way of trying to get them to talk again but Destiny never took the bait. When she couldn’t take any more of the clown show, Mrs. Needlemire turned to Destiny and asked her how she could do such a thing. Puzzled as to what she was asking her, she asked her to repeat her question. After listening to an earful along with all the rest of staff, Destiny was shocked to learn that Mrs. Needlemire overheard all that was said the day that she had given Elizabeth an earful. Not interested in hearing any more bullsh!t talk about how the staff is a team and the need to be working together in the benefit of the students instead of trying to outshine each other, Destiny got up and looked around the room. Funny how no one remembered the part that Elizabeth got all her ideas from her and that she made it seem like they were Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

all her ideas. They praised the principal’s niece but looked down on her. Watching all those old twofaced staff members got her blood boiling more. She let Mrs. Needlemire, who was the principal and Elizabeth’s aunt have it. She reminded her that her bias was not ethical and that she needed to find a replacement for her then walked out of the faculty meeting. At the door, she turned and told them that they would soon hear from her lawyers. All during dinner, she was silent and her sisters knew that when the time was right, she would let them know what was bothering her. She still couldn’t believe that she walked off her job but she was not going to let anyone else walk all over her. Just as she loved her students, they loved her too and they would be broken hearted to learn that she won’t be at the academy anymore, but she had to do what was best for her. Over the years she realized that people don’t like change and that many were stuck in their own ways. Whenever she had a one-on-one with any of the faculty, they would find some way to discourage her not to proceed. This is one of the things that she prayed she never does if God blessed her with opening her own school, which had been a dream of hers for a long time. She really loved kids and had so many

Break Away From The Pack None of us can deny that there is a time for everything. There is a time to be a part of a group where we can feel a sense of belonging or acceptance and then there is a time to be alone. We find inspiration among fellow believers at church and we receive education as part of a class at school, but it is when we are alone, that we can really pause and internalize what we have heard and learnt. Many of us though, spend too much time copying others, trying to be like others, listening to others and focusing on what others want. How about we develop the courage and the self confidence to break away from the pack and just be ourselves. We do have our own brand of unique greatness to add to the world but we don’t take the time to discover it because we don’t spend enough time alone and we don’t trust our own intuition. Benefits of coming away from the crowd are many… Creativity. Most inventors and creatives work alone quietly and consistently fixing and creating and re-creating something until it becomes a masterpiece. They learn to block out the sounds of the world and hone in on their music, writing, art, technology or whatever it is they are building. Self awareness. When we spend time alone, listening to our own voice and paying attention to our own needs, we understand better who we really are without the loudness of the crowd influencing our thoughts. Healing. Breaking away from the pack means leaving the brokenness of the world sometimes and truly resting and healing our wounds. We can medi13

tate, reflect and find some peace and quiet to heal our bruised soul. Trailblazing. Many of the heroes that we have studied and admired had to stand alone in their beliefs and take an unpopular stance. We now benefit from their bravery. Dare to stand up for what is right, going against the crowd and be counted among those who blazed a forward trail. While we often find joy and comfort in being with others and that’s a beautiful thing, we cannot deny ourselves the time and space to come apart and focus on our own lives and our creative masterpieces and our own healing and renewal. ................................................................................. She was not going to sit and wait for another job and she damn sure was not going to beg back for her old job. There were a few things that she had in mind, and once she could afford to open her own academy she would start there. Phillip Swims To School Records In First Season Elinah Phillip, the BVI’s first collegiate swimmer, ended her first season at Rutgers with three records—50 yards free, 200 and 400 yard relays—at the Big 10 Conference Championships. Phillip, a predentistry major with an art major and business minor, reflected on her season and transitioning into college. “It was a big transition, not just in sport but in academics and the culture is very different to the UK. For swimming, I think the biggest adjustment for me was in training, because of a different coach and also the difference in the length of the pool—I had to physically adjust to that,” she explained. “Academically, the educational system is different so I had to figure out what my plan was for the next four years studying. Culturally, the thing that stood out was getting used to the accent.” At the start of her season, it was difficult to know where she really was competitively Phillip said, as there was a big difference in pool length and her times were quicker because she was swimming in yards and not meters. She described her early season races as being ‘messy’ and had to adapt and find a way to be as fast as she knew she could be, because she didn’t have as much yardage to build speed. “You didn’t know how slow or fast you were actual-

ly going until you got used to the feel of swimming in a short course yards pool, but as time went on, I got used to it and developed a good feeling and an enjoyable experience,” she explained. “Swimming yards is about two or three meters shorter than a short course meter pool, so the wall does come a lot quicker. It was something I had to be aware of, especially for me doing a sprint, the wall is coming faster in the race so you have to think quickly… and don’t run into it.” Her first Big 10 Conference Championships was an exciting meet, had a lot of energy and it was fun. When she swam 22.41 seconds in the 50 free to break a 14 year old school record, Phillip said she wasn’t thinking about a record and was surprised as she was swimming as fast as she could after a 22.48 swim in the morning prelims. “I had a feeling I could get it because you usually swim faster in the afternoon,” she said, noting that along with her two fellow freshmen and a sophomore, they worked really hard to get the 200 and 400 records in times of 1:30.33 and 3:18.06 respectively. “The one I enjoyed the most was the 400 yards freestyle relay, because that’s probably the toughest relay and we beat the record by more than a second.”
