Bringing Americana to the BVI Reviewers called the band’s latest album, also called Coral Creek, a “powerhouse release,” especially for fans of good songwriting, and applauded the “buttery nostalgia” of the album’s lead track “Way Back.” Produced by Tim Carbone, of Railroad Earth, the 10-track album includes 9 original songs plus one cover, the band’s take on the piano-heavy Neil Young song “Comes a Time.” The band has toured throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, and you can catch them this weekend at Myett’s in Cane Garden Bay. Coral Creek plays Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th from 7pm.
If you’re fan of the intricate fingerpicking of bluegrass, chances are good you’ll love Coral Creek’s signature style, which they call “NewGrass.” The style has earned Coral Creek accolades like being named among Colorado’s best bluegrass bands, but their diverse catalogue of songs also includes rock, country, Cajun and folk music, in addition to their specialty sound, Americana (think Neil Yong and the Grateful Dead). In addition to some well-known jam covers, the band’s live set also includes original music by guitarist Chris Thompson and keyboardist Bill McKay (formerly of Leftover Salmon and Derek Trucks Band). Rob Garland on bass and Jack Watson on drums round out the band’s lineup.

The Dogs of Cane Garden Bay If you’ve ever spent five minutes over here in Cane Garden Bay, you’d be sure to meet (if you didn’t already know) the usual suspects of the canine kind. Stroll along the beach pretty much anywhere between the dinghy dock and the Wedding Bar and you’ll likely come across one (or many) of the bunch. Most have homes, by the looks of their tags and collars, though not all. It’s usually not hard to tell the difference between the strays from those who are just taking themselves on a walk. Island dogs are their own breed in so many ways. They are generally good-natured, though fiercely protective of their owners. They come in all sizes, shapes and colors and have no problem scarfing down that tidbit or morsels left on a goplate or even covered in sand. Meet the crew: Roscoe or Rover, the big, brown guy with the blue collar. His owner probably calls him Houdini due to his escape skills. There are two Shaggies, Shaggy 1 and Shaggy 2. As you can guess from my names for them, they look alike, both with long white hair and short legs, and they live down by Callwood’s end of the beach. Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

One of them actually comes over for my canine pal Curry to come out and play with him. The two of them have a blast prancing up my steepgrade driveway, steps and all. True friendship, right there. Then there are the two who hang out in Rhymer’s parking lot, whom I call Little Sweetie and Big Brother. They’re probably not related, but as they hang together, it just sort of figured. Little Sweetie is probably my favorite of the bunch (besides Curry); always tail a-waggin’ with a true smile and gentle, sweet nature. Then down the beach a bit there’s Otis, who hails from behind Paradise and is tall with black and white spots. Jackpot and Missy hail from down by the Elm, full of spunk, the both of them. Toby and Dude are also on the scene on occasion, closely guarded by their ‘Mom.’ New ones pop in and out, but these above make up the core group. Next time you’re down in the bay, bring a treat (or lots of them) to share out. Make some new friends, they won’t let you down, and are pretty much there 24/7.

Men Can Change Dear Koren, I read your column and I notice questions from women about men who are cheating on them and flirting with other women. I used to be that guy. I was raised with a uncle who would tell me to hit girls if they disrespect me and tell me don’t take stupidness and always introducing me to other ladies even when I was in relationships. After a while it was the norm for me to have 3 relationships at the same time. It took me almost losing the woman I really loved to change. Even up to now sometimes I see someone that look good and it takes effort to not let the old me take over especially if the woman is aggressive. Encourage your male readers to respect women and encourage your ladies to not take any nonsense from men. We get away with things because they allow it. Keep up the good work. Relationship advice is always useful. – Male fan Dear male fan, Thank you for your personal story; I’m sure it will mean a lot to our readers. I have heard other men speak of similar experiences of having older men or even peers encourage them to be womanizers. Trying to be a faithful and gentle partner leads some to be called “wimps” or soft or something else that is not positive. I’m glad you got out of the 3-relationship story; that is nothing but pure trouble. You hurt the women, end up with a bad reputation, could lose someone you really love, and it’s a bad example for any youth under your influence. We do need to raise young men to be faithful, Limin’Times Entertainment Gude
respectful, loving, fair and honest. Those are not female virtues; they are human virtues. Too long we have told young boys they shouldn’t cry, they shouldn’t be emotional, they shouldn’t be too soft, etc. It has gotten so bad, that some women don’t even know what to do with nice guys. You were lucky to have just “almost” lost the woman you loved, many men will lose out on the opportunity to experience incredible, passionate love because they did not linger faithfully and loyally in one place long enough. I agree with you that women need to stand up and recognize their worth. Forgiveness is honorable, but accepting infidelity over and over again is like inflicting abuse on yourself. Why exist in a cycle of pain and tears, shame, begging, forgiveness, restarting, then more pain, constant suspicion and distrust and vulnerability to disease and do this over and over again, year in and year out? Women need to recognize their specialness, their value, their ability to wait for what’s right and walk away from persons and situations that continually belittle them. There is nothing wrong with being alone temporarily. It will hurt for a while, but the relief of not having to worry and fret and argue and cry will soon bring with it an unimagined feeling of freedom, and you will wonder why you didn’t leave that toxic situation long ago. Ladies and gentlemen, we all have our parts to play; men to break loose from the cultural bondage of being the community “stud” and women from the notion that your worth is tied to being in a relationship, no matter how bad. 12

have the ability or not. I don’t turn anybody away because you never know who they might turn out to be, and I never write a kid off, because they can shock you down the road, so you have to stay with them all the time.” Among those who stand out for Chinnery is Jahrel Cotton, who played for him as a kid and moved to St. Thomas when his mom died. Today he’s the Oakland A’s starting pitcher. “He came to see me some months ago and said he had to before he returned and it was 10 o’clock at night and I was so surprised,” Chinnery said. Valissa Bratwaithe, who got a full scholarship and played softball and volleyball at Palm Beach College and Volleyball for Western Florida University, was the first female he assisted, and within a week after speaking to a recruiter, she was in school. “I went down to St. Thomas, told the guy I wanted a scholarship for my girl and he said he’d see what he could do. He called me two days later and said I got a full scholarship for your girl and I asked if he was serious. He said yes and I called her mom and told them to meet me at the office that Monday and they said they would send her. I asked the coach when they need her and her said ‘like yesterday’ and Thursday we were flying. Everything took one week. That’s one of the awesome things I’ve done.”
“I was in the office and a (Police) Officer came in and asked for Chinnery and I was like, ‘I haven’t committed any crimes you know’ and he started laughing after me, but I think Ms. (Violet) DeCastro knew what was going on, so he gave me the letter and I asked, ‘what this thing is?’” Chinnery recalled after receiving the award presented by Governor John S. Duncan during an investiture ceremony. “Violet took it and she read it and she said ‘congratulations, you this and you that.’ Prior to that, Linda Allen, one of the inspiring ladies in what I do, called me and said she’s doing a biography and need some information on me and she asked all these questions, not realizing it was for this thing. But, it’s an honor, I really enjoyed it.” Chinnery said he has lots of people to thank and it will take him forever to do so. He said he just goes about doing the things he does and not looking for any recognition and just loves what he does. He said when confronted with someone’s dilemma, someone else’s problem, it matters not what happens to you if you get involved rather what happens to them if you do not. “That’s my philosophy when I work with kids,” Chinnery said. “I take them whether they Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution.
