Festival Performers Our Emancipation Festival continues in full swing with our home entertainers and some from around the region performing in all three festival villages. From Thursday 1st – Saturday 4th, some regional performers are Dragonaires, Tarrus Riley, Romain Virgo, Voice and Mr. Killer. Tarrus Riley, who is Friday night’s headliner for International Reggae Night is a Jamaican-American reggae singer and member of the Rastafari movement. With hits like She’s Royal, Gimme Likkle One Drop and My Day, I know he will bring a performance like no other. Saturday night is International Soca Night and headliner Mr. Killer will rock the stage.
Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.
The celebrations in Road Town continue until Monday after the parade then the celebration continues Tuesday night in East End at Alda’s Festival Village. Some entertainers over the two nights will be Elephant Man, Kes the Band, Fay-Ann/Bunji Garlin & The Asylum Band, Christopher Martin and Fireman Harper. On Thursday night, the festivities will move into Carrot bay, for the Cultural Fiesta and Saturday’s closing. See performances by Skinny Fabulous, Machel Montano, Adam O, Pumpa and Jah Cure. Each year I look forward to the donkey races but this time around I’m making an effort to attend Saturday’s Traditional Market Day. For Festival schedules, please see pages 4&13.

“Mascara and eyeliner definitely make the eyes pop and any lip products add just a touch of glam”.
When she was younger, Monea would learn the choreography of music videos on BET and from her sister as well. As her dancing career began to peak, she realized that she wanted to be in the front or the ‘Boss’ and from that moment forward she dedicated her time into moulding herself into the artist she is today. The exciting local rapper names Rihanna as her biggest inspiration all around and the duo, R.City as writers that she admires. She told Limin’ Times that the drive to fulfil her purpose and provide a better life for her family and herself is her ultimate inspiration to do what she does. When asked to explain her creative process Monea said, “It’s all about feelings. I honestly feel God plants melodies or lyrics into my brain as they seem to come out of nowhere.” She continued, “I start with a beat and sometimes I won’t have any lyrics. I just go with the first concept and build on it.” Although she doesn’t have access to a studio all the time, she still manages to keep her ideas by recording a video, voice note or by writing it down until she gets into one. Monea’s average day when she’s not working is spent writing songs, researching and plotting what she will do next. “I try to work on music every day,” she explained. While she has done collaborations with other artists in the past, the rising star shared that would really love to do a song with Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan. Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

Her tremendous love for her fans means that she often goes the extra mile to respond whenever they contact her on social media. For Monea, her favourite part about being an artist is the performance – she loves the transfer of energy between herself and the audience. “I love to see them sing along with me and enjoy themselves. I love how I make them feel and how they make me feel in return.” She described the drama that may sometimes happen on the business side of things as her least favourite aspect of being an entertainer. Monea just wants to make music, perform and give back to the fans; but sometimes there are a lot more requirements when it comes to being an entertainer. To date, Monea’s favourite performance is DJ Supatrakz birthday bash held last year in St. Croix. For someone who would to follow in her footsteps, Monea’s advice is, “Take your time, find yourself as an artist and believe in yourself without doubt.” 6

Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 13: The Shocking Truth
It’s Saturday night and the ladies were having a girl’s night at the club. “I’m going home with somebody son tonight,” said Beth. “No, you’re going home in your own bed, haven’t Angel’s threats taught you nothing yet Bethany?” asked Sarah. “Nope, you *itches know I’m hard headed AF!” Beth responded and the ladies shared a laugh. “I’m not able with you,” Liz said as she signaled for the bartender to bring her a stronger bottle than they were drinking. The Police caught Michael three weeks ago, now she doesn’t have to walk around watching her back. She was single and ready to loosen up and have some fun. “Easy there kitten, you know you are not capable of handling that amount of liquor. I understand you’re finally free but I’m not trying to have no vomit on my outfit or in my ride,” Sarah told Liz as Beth started laughing hysterically. “Now Sarah, we are all in an effed-up state of mind with the sh*t we been dealing with, let her live a little,” Beth said. “There’s a thin line between having fun and over doing it. She was great until five songs ago when she heard the name Michael in one,” Sarah replied. Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
“Eff Michael, that dog is the devil himself,” Liz shouted as Beth and Sarah laughed at her outburst. The ladies were having fun in the VIP and flirting with every cute guy that passed by until this one particular person interrupted them and began making their presence known. “I see this b*tch is in her natural habitat,” the mystery person said. “Excuse us, who are you referring to and what’s your issue?” Liz asked. “My issue is with that b*tch right there, always with somebody man,” they answered. “I don’t know who the *beep* you are, but you better run for your life b*tch, I ain’t the one,” Beth said ready to fight. Before the scene drew a crowd, the club security escorted the non-VIP patron out of the VIP section and apologized to the ladies. 12am. The ladies walked out of the club laughing at the incident that happened on their way. Meanwhile, a young man was spitting his strongest game in Sarah’s direction and wouldn’t back down – not even when she showed him her wedding bands. To get him to leave her alone, she told him she was born a man. Cont. on page 13 12
“Listen, if I knew those words were the magic charm, I would’ve gotten rid of him from the moment he started talking his pi$$,” Sarah said between laughs. “No, it’s his facial expression when you said you were born a man,” Beth said. “I wonder what he saw when he laid eyes on you, homie said he’ll pay your mortgage and send your husband on a long vacation every couple months and house sit for him while he’s gone,” Liz said laughing. “I don’t know who those young fools think they be impressing with the madness they be saying.
13
Don’t men romance women anymore?” Sarah asked. “Girl nobody got time for that, you borrow someone and send him or her back to their owner when you’re done,” Beth said. “It’s the sad new way to date these days, but we don’t have to worry, we are old. By the time you blink we are the new grannies,” Liz said. “Speak for yourself b*tch!” both Sarah and Beth said in unison and the ladies all laughed. The ladies were now in Beth’s living room ending their night and reminiscing about the night’s activities when reality suddenly hit Beth – Angel was a man.

Sailing Kicking Off BVI’s Pan Am Games Action Following last week’s team welcoming ceremony and participating in the opening ceremony, Team BVI will get down to business in the 18thPan Am Games here in Lima, Peru on Saturday, in search of the territory’s first medal in its history. The delegation of Alec Anderson, Lindel “Chef ” Hodge and Thad Lettsome, made a splash with their Bee VI shirts and white pants in the opening. “From the time we walked out our apartment, everybody was watching us,” Hodge, the Chef de Mission noted. “Everybody was in their suits and bland sweat suits and we had our pretty shirts with Bee VI, it was an eye catcher. I wished we had more bodies, but we did what we had to do. Our shirts caught lots of eyes and everybody wanted to trade for our BVI pins after that.” Laser Sailor Lettsome who carried the flag in the opening, will be the first in action from Saturday through Aug 10. “I’m excited and pretty motivated and all these people around me, helps me being excited about the whole thing,” said Lettsome, who will be sailing in Paracas. “I’m looking to get a good experience out of it, come back in the future and do well, but still do well this time.” With the opening of track and field competition on August 6, the team has been dealt a blow with the absence of 400m hurdler and medal prospect Kyron McMaster, who has been affected by a slight injury and is rehabbing. The BVI has never won a Pan Am Games medal. The best finish has been fourth place by the 1987
Softball team that narrowly lost to Cuba, 4-3 in the bronze medal game. The team now enters the competition with two athletes ranked among the world’s best. Long Jumper Chantel Malone was fourth in 2015 in Toronto and will seek to improve on that position in Lima when she begins cutting the sand on Monday. In May, she leapt a personal best of 6.90m. Malone has qualified for every IAAF World Championships since 2011 and was seventh in 2017, with the BVI’s best outdoor Championships finish. Last year, Malone won CAC Games Long Jump silver. Malone is currently No. 5 on the IAAF 2019 list. Shot Putter Eldred Henry demolished the NCAA Division II record when he threw 21.47m, to win the outdoor title in May, representing Findlay University in Ohio. He also won the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Shot-Put crown. Henry was a 2018 CAC Games bronze medalist. He will be in action on Tuesday afternoon and has the No. 13 mark in the world on the IAAF list, heading into the competition. Also on Tuesday, Ashley Kelly, who has had a lackluster season but finally ran a season’s best 53.55 seconds in the 400m at the Adam Sanford Cup in New York in early July, will kick into action. Dean “The Sportsman” Greenaway has Pan Am Games reports on CBN 90.9 FM at 5.00 p.m. through August 5. 9.00 a.m., 2.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m., August 6 – 11.
