Having served as Lou Reed’s lead guitarist in the 1970s, s i n g e r- s o n g w r i t e r Jeff Ross has a punk rock pedigree, but the Nantucket Island, Massachusettsbased guitarist’s latest album, Only Your Voice, has all the heart and sophistication that comes from a career as a studio and live performing musician. “Each one of these songs is a piece of my heart or soul. I’ve taken it all and just elevated it,” Jeff says in a video diary of his time in the studio recording the album. The album’s 10 tracks were recorded in a studio late in 2016 with some of the area’s best musicians, including Grammy award winners Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush. The album showcases Jeff’s range as both a singer and instrumentalist, from “Only Your

Pop a Bottle As a former (and current, sometimes) wine writer I like to let my readers know that it is perfectly acceptable to pour and serve champagne or other sparkling wine with pretty much any meal you can think of. The rule that you should serve white wine with white meats and red wine with red meat pretty much holds true. But, when the bottle of bubbly makes its welcomed appearance, all bets are happily off. In this and every holiday season, there is no time better. There is something just celebratory when that cork pops and you watch those tiny bubbles float up to the top of the glass. And it’s amazing what so many countries have come up with in sparkling wines. American sparklers in particular have come a long way. The really delicious ones may set you back a pretty penny, but paying the extra price is generally worth your while. Look for ‘fermented in bottle’ as opposed to ‘Charmat Bulk Process,’ also known as the cheap stuff. You’ll notice a marked difference in the two. Limin’Times Entertainment Gude
Also noteworthy are the Italian Proseccos, and the Spanish Cavas. Technically, only the bubbly from the French Champagne district is allowed to be called champagne. True champagne will be pricey, but worth every cent when you pop them open and sniff that toasty smell. Depending on your tastes – and mine runs towards the driest of the dry – look for brut on the label. Don›t let the bottles saying ‘extra dry’ fool you, they are definitely sweeter than the bruts. If you can find an extra brut, definitely pick that up. Color doesn’t necessarily determine anything about how your bubbly will taste. Champagnes and sparklers are usually pale golden in color, but don’t shy away from rosés. The pinkish color just adds to the mystique of sparkling wines. So, next time you’re celebrating, go with a bottle of bubbly, you really can’t go wrong. Whether with simple hors d’oeuvres, a festive meal, or just plain sipping by itself, do yourself this little favor. And enjoy every drop. 8

Good AskThings KorenAbout Great Relationships, part 2 Last month, we took a look at some of the factors that make us look at a couple and say #relationshipgoals, such as good communication, spending quality time together while still maintaining separate activities and identities, not trying to change out partner, and being willing to put in some hard work on the relationship. Here are five more good things about great relationships: 6. There is honesty and trust. Nothing kills a relationship faster than lies because when trust is broken, it is so hard to regain that it can really crumble the foundation of the relationship. Especially considering the importance of sharing and time apart, without trust, the relationship cannot thrive. 7. They search for the good in each other. Instead of always criticizing, both parties make an effort to look for the good in the other. As people we tend to see what we are focused on. If there are things you can improve about your relationship, of course you can still discuss them, but keep the relationship on a positive note by mentioning those things you love four times as much as the negatives. 8. They talk about each other nicely when not together. In great relationships, the partners are so impressed by each other, they can’t help but boast. They feel lucky to have found such a person to be with and they find reasons to show off their partner.
9. They are intimate. True intimacy means the relationship is between just the two persons, which means there are times when you shut out the world and just be together. Sex is not used as a bargaining tool, but a method of expressing love. 10. They both take responsibility for the success of the relationship. We are right back where we started at the beginning. It will be hard work but both parties must put in 100 percent if they expect exceptional returns. It is important that you manage your expectations of your partner and take time to get to know each other. Love is a sweet and wonderful thing, but you only get out of it what you put in.
