Roundup Art in the Garden In the mood for a relaxing Sunday afternoon? The monthly art fair and wine tasting at Myett’s in Cane Garden Bay is your ticket. The vibe is casual, but with plenty to do, explained Vanicia Cooper, the front-of-house manager at the hotel and restaurant. “We call it a cool afternoon in the garden,” she said of the event, which is held on the last Sunday of every month from 1pm. Each month, a rotating crew of painters and other artists set up a selection of their works at a table or hanging from trees in the garden. Attendees can admire the art, and – ideally – find something they’d like to take home. “The art is for sale, and we hope people would support the artists and their work,” Vanicia explained. Proudly African also hosts a wine tasting during the event where people can test their wine knowledge for a prize. The January event,

which takes place on the 29th, will also host a farmer who will bring some fruits, including coconuts that he’ll cut open for shoppers to drink from if they like. The idea for the event came about a year ago. “We were hearing from people who live here that they’d like to have more things to do,” she said “This seemed like a good event that would appeal to a lot of people.” So far, the response has been positive. “People really love it,” Vanicia said. “They ask why we don’t do it more often.” Eventually, she hopes that the monthly event will find a charity partner, or a rotation of a few local charities, that could use the event as a fundraising and awareness platform. If you’re an artist who’s interested in participating in the monthly event, email Vanicia at FOH@myetts.com.

Trolls So I took the kids to see Trolls and I mentioned to my son that I used to play with troll dolls when I was younger – his hilarious response was “and they just came out.” I had to let him know the movie is a revamp of the same dolls that were popular years before he was born. The movie begins with a flashback of the Bergens invading the Trolls’ village and Poppy (Anna Kendrick) & Branch (Justin Timberlake) capturing them for a feast they called Troll Day by Chef. Once in the room, Poppy realizes that in Bergens Town. Troll Day is when the normally Bridget is in love with King Gristle, the Bergen’s gloomy Bergens feel a moment of happiness by ruler. Before Poppy and her friends leave, they eating a Troll. Flash forward 20 years later to the agree to give Bridget a makeover that lands her same the Trolls village and meet Poppy (played on a date with the king, and eventually gets her by Anna Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born invited to be his plus-one at Troll Fest. and their leader. Since Chef is so determined to regain her Poppy throws the loudest party, which reposition in Bergen’s Town she captures the rest veals the Trolls’ location to a Bergen known as of the Trolls to make every Bergen happy at Troll Chef who has been banished from Bergen Town. Fest. After some of her friends were captured by Chef, I’m going to leave you hanging here. You being the leader that she is, Poppy sets out to will have to watch the movie to see how the end rescue them and fulfill the Troll motto: “No Troll plays out. left behind.” Trolls is now playing at UP’s Cineplex. Branch (Justin Timberlake), the overly cautious troll who hates hug time, joins Poppy on her rescue mission. It’s quite interesting how this mismatched duo manages to get along long enough to complete the mission. Once in the town they go into the castle and wander around trying to locate their friends. They found them in a cage in Bridget’s (Zooey Deschanel) room. Bridget is Chef’s assistant that has low self-esteem and is not treated nicely Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

Tattoo Discrimination? Dear Koren, My boyfriend has a lot of tattoos and even when he wears a long sleeve shirt you can see them on his neck and chest and hands. I worry that is the reason he’s having a hard time finding a job. I had a tongue ring and one time a human resources manager told me that people don’t accept those things so I took it out. Eventually I did get a job, but he can’t remove his tattoos as easily as I removed my piercing. Isn’t that discrimination to judge somebody because of what is on the outside? Being judged this way makes it sting even worse when we as young people are accused of not looking for jobs. –Fed up Dear Fed-up, Discrimination on the basis of someone’s appearance is wrong; however an employer has a right to decide what kind of image he or she wants to project in his or her company. It could be that his qualifications were not suitable for the jobs he applied for and him not getting hires has nothing to do with his tattoos; or it could be that the company wants certain characteristics for their company and he is lacking them. If you are applying for a job as a bodyguard and weigh only 90 pounds and do not appear physically intimidating, the company might decide you don’t have the right look for the job. We have to look at the big picture and put ourselves in the shoes of the prospective employer. It is another matter if the job requires certain academic qualifications or experience and he has all they advertised for and someone tells him that he is not being hired solely because of his appear-
ance. That might be an issue. I do understand your point that we must consider who a person is and not focus solely on their appearance. In a job interview, there is hardly any time to get to know the applicant, leaving the interviewer to place a lot of weight on how the person presents themself. Remember: first impressions are lasting. Your boyfriend should not give up, nor should he conclude that the tattoos are what are holding him back. He should ensure that he has the qualifications for any job he is applying for and present himself well; using his knowledge, his skills and his charm to win over the interviewer. In other words, he needs to sell himself and sell the best of what he can offer the company so the interviewer knows he would be an asset to the organization. If he walks in with a chip on his shoulder like he is beaten before he even starts, that just makes him look like someone with a bad attitude. You will always find shallow people in this world who judge people based only on appearance, but for some open-minded bosses, a tattoo is the least of their concerns. If your boyfriend is convinced that the tattoos are a problem, then he can get them covered if they are not easily removable. When you want to work for someone, sometimes you have to be flexible to fit with the organizational culture. It doesn’t mean compromising your values, but just understanding that the world is wider and bigger than any one style or personal look. Chantel to ‘Rise Again’ season is to be more patient with the process and not so focused on the outcome. She found when she was caught up in making the 22-foot Rio qualifying standard, it took away from her natural flow. This resulted being inconsistent in her jumping. “I felt like it was a combination of rushing the jump and that was the confusing part for me because I felt ready and it was like why is my performances fluctuating that much, but, one thing I can contribute to my performances is that my mind was not right,” she explained. “I was pressing to do something that I could naturally do like with my eyes closed. With me overthinking, everything was a big problem.” She added: “I’ve been really trying to get my mind right where I’m not dwelling on the past, because it can be very haunting just to keep recalling your past mistakes. I’m trusting the process. I’ve moved to Florida, a new environment out of my comfort zone and it’s just a do or die year.” Malone, who still holds the BVI Long Jump, Triple Jump and a share of the High Jump National Records said during this indoor season she’ll be focused on jumping, because running indoors is not necessarily her focus or important to her. “Outdoors, I’ll get back into running,” she said. “But the 400m training, I’m like what? I don’t remember doing all this. This is hard work. But, definitely some sprints, you’ll see me.” Malone is planning to kick off her 2017 season by jumping indoors in the USA this weekend, before jumping in Berlin on Feb 10 followed by competitions in Glasgow and Birmingham.
Chantel Malone Last year just wasn’t Chantel Malone’s year, not after the 2015 season she had where she leapt 21 feet 11½ inches in the Long Jump and qualified for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow. In 2016, the Rio Olympic Games was definitely on her radar. But… “2016 was very shaky for me, definitely a turning point in my mentality,” Malone, a Digicel Brand Ambassador said during a short visit home last week. “Not making the Olympic team was a major blow for me, a disappointment and it left me in a state of confusion almost, because I felt ready. I was in the best shape of my life and nobody knew I was struggling with little injuries here and there. But, at the end of the day, I felt that I should have been able to go out there and make the Olympic team. When that didn’t happen, I definitely was defeated, but my mindset going into 2017 is just to rise again.” Malone said what she has learnt from last Limin’Times Entertainment Gude
