Road to the Crown Roundup With its long history and proud tradition, the Miss BVI competition is the territory’s premier pageant. This year, having partnered with the local franchises of the Miss World and Miss Universe competitions, Miss BVI is shaping up to be the biggest it’s ever been, and the winner will go on to represent the territory on the world stage. The “road to the crown” continues this Saturday, 15th poolside at Peter Island Resort with the swimsuit competition, which will see the six contestants sporting swimwear designed by Beach Body, The Islander Swim Collection, Resort Elegance, Trefle Designs and Creative Swimsuit. If you want to witness the glamour of Miss BVI’s first dedicated swim show, you can get your tickets in advance from UMI Fashions or from any of the contestants or Miss BVI committee members. Admission costs $50, which includes transportation to and from Peter Island as well as re-

freshments at the show. The boat to the show leaves from the CSY Dock at 4pm sharp. The six contestants vying for the 63rd Miss BVI crown were unveiled at ceremony in May. They are Genesis Richards, A’yana Phillips, Tecora Morgan, Helina Hewlett, Lean Francis, and Khephra Sylvester. The contestants, who range from 19 to 26 in age, have all chosen a public service oriented platform to support as they compete under the theme “Beauty With A Purpose: The Evolution of Pride and Culture.” The next stop on the “road to the crown” will be a crown reception, which is set for July 20th. The final takes place as usual at the height of August Emancipation Festival activities, on August 6th at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex. For whoever is crowned, the road will continue in November’s Miss World competition in Shenzhen, China. Miss Universe will follow later, most likely in January 2018, but pageant officials still haven’t determined the location.

V.I.B.E. (Virgin Islands Based Entertainment) It’s been a year since we last caught up with VIBE. Now that the 2017 Festival season is upon us, what better way to start off our Limin’ Times Spotlight series than to sit down with the band and see what has happened since we last “vibed” with them and find out what they have in store for the fans for Festival 2017. VIBE’s members are vocalists Raul “Jougo” Sprauve, Renrick “Mac Daddy” Massac, and Teejay “TJ” Henley; keyboardist Kerry “Fingers” Nichols; drum machine programmer Le Sean “Smudge” Smith; bassist Zolan “Zo” Browne; guitarist Glen “Damager” Lamothe; engineer Ramon Sprauve and Brandon “BJ” Harrigan. The band’s wide-ranging musical influences cover nearly every genre of music: calypso, reggae, funk, and zouk to name a few. “Off-stage, the band is a close-knit family who meet twice weekly for practice, to discuss band business and ideas, or just to hang out. The strong unit never forgets a band member’s birthday nor fails to support each other,” said Roger Frank, the band’s manager. “The members assist each other and often help fellow musicians.” With an incredible fan base, the band says they appreciate the fans’ love and support, and that they are counting on that support this Saturday, 15th July, when they present ‘Black Exclusive’ their latest album, during a release party at UP’s Ballroom. Entertainment for the night will be provided by VIBE, VIBE Girls, Kylo Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

and Swanks, Killa Toma, Ah Milli Sounds and DJ Taz, while international recording artists R. City will host the event. Tickets are $40 for general admission and $120 for VIP (bottle service is available, please call 542-4046) and can be purchased at J&C Trading Ltd. and JBY Fashion. The strictly enforced dress code is ALL BLACK. Action starts at 10PM. The album, which is titled Influence, will be the band’s fourth studio album and it features the current the single J’ouvert Feeling. The song’s title is descriptive of the track itself: it definitely puts you in a Festival mood. The album also features the growing crowd favorite, Flashlight, which features Kylo. “Flashlight was crafted to send a positive message – we want back our Virgin Islands, stop the crime. It also remembers those that passed on, we didn’t forget you especially Mr. Neil Blyden, who has done tremendous [things] for VI music,” said Jougo, the band’s lead singer. VIBE also recently represented the territory when they performed in both carnival villages at St. Thomas and St. John. Look out for VIBE performances throughout this Festival season. Catch up with VIBE on their Instagram page @ vibe284, Facebook @ VIBE and listen to their music on Soudcloud: VIBE (Be VI).
Mid-Year Resolutions We are in July! We have made it through half the year. We have made new friends, lost old ones and strengthened some existing friendships. Some persons got married and some separated. Through the good, the bad, the gaining and the losing, the moving forward, the standing still, the going and the coming, one thing that is constant is that we want to be happy. We want to feel like our lives have meaning and that we matter in the grand scheme of things. As we continue on for the second half of the year, let us pause to ensure that we haven’t wandered down the wrong path. If we did, let’s correct course and reassess our goals and our position. The things that mattered in January might not matter anymore because our vision shifted a bit and that’s okay. We do not need permission to change and to grow. We just need to stay true to who we are and be genuine with others. Here are some considerations as we pause for a bit and prepare to continue the 2017 journey: What are my priorities? Remind yourself of what is important to you. There are so many distractions and opportunities to multi-task that sometimes we don’t put enough concentrated focus into what really matters. Ensure that your priorities and the things that get the bulk of your time, attention and money are things that will make your life better and also help others. Who are my supporters? No man is an island and you need a support system of genuine persons that you can trust and rely on. “Fair weather” friends are there when things are good, but true friends are there through thick and thin and tell you when you are going wrong. Surround yourself with the right persons and your journey becomes sweeter.
What do I need to give up? It could be a relationship that is immoral, or a habit that is costing you too much, or an attitude that alienates you from others. Any baggage that holds you back or hampers you from your goal, let it go. What do I need to start doing? Talking about what you want or where you want to be has never been enough to get things done. Doing gets things done! Start somewhere with whatever you have right now and just keep moving. You know what you want and you know how to get it, so in spite of your hesitance and fears and your thoughts of inadequacy, just make a start, in faith. Don’t compare yourself with anyone. It is so easy for us to look at others and feel like we don’t measure up, but each journey is unique. Forget what everyone is doing and focus on your life. You don’t know enough about their story to form an opinion and quite frankly, it’s not your business. Compete only with yourself to improve where you know you should. Don’t be overwhelmed if you are way off track from where you want to be. You cannot lift a 1,000 pound piece of metal just like that, but you can lift 10 pounds daily for 100 days and you will get the job done. Take small steps in the right direction, one day at a time and come December 31, you will be amazed at the progress you have made. 9

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square.
