DIGITAL TOOLS MODULES
1 DIGITAL TOOLS MODULE (FROM 2D TO 4D)
-
1..1. 2D - 3D Modelling Dates: September 4-18 Hours: 15 hours Instructor: Rodrigo Aguirre Description: This technical workshop serves as an initiation to critical geometric and topological topics for effective 2d drafting and 3d modelling. The main digital tool used will be McNeel Rhinoceros 3d. Within Rhinoceros we will learn about creating clean 2D and 3d geometry, Nurbs geometry vs. Mesh geometry, why and when to use each kind, and strategies to work with each kind of geometry in an effective manner. Participants will understand which tools are useful to create a base model, as well as tools which are useful in model manipulation.
DIGITAL TOOLS: Rhinoceros 3D PREREQUISITES: Knowledge of 2D drafting Basic concepts of 3d modelling Computer capable of running Rhinoceros 3d 5.0 x64 Windows 7 or 8.1 operating system preferable

Synthesis Dates: September 21-24 Hours: 12 hours Instructor: Mathilde Marengo This workshop module will focus on how to format a thesis, document research, and effectively communicate the outcomes. Effective research and communication will be a key part of your success in academia and in the professional
world and this module will cover specific points which will help with research methodology, academic grammar, research sources and citing, data processing and analysis, and publication.
Day 1 - Before you start
Day 3 - Becoming Operational
- Finding References (Online/Journals/Publications‌etc) - Setting up a Bibliography - Citation methods: referencing texts and projects in you work - Laying out a Framework for you research
- Defining a methodology: how to choose the right methodology - Quantitative versus qualitative research - Drawing up a proposal
day 2 - Getting Started - Posing a research question and laying out a Hypothesis - Defining objectives and expected results within reason
day 4 - Scientific testing & Research Conclusions - Setting up a scientific experiment - Recording and understanding your results - Drawing conclusions
