DESPERADO Thursday 2 February 7.30pm An exhilarating show that mischievously riffs on dance marathons, rock gigs, school sports days and rodeos. Desperado is a manic and adrenaline-fuelled display of camaraderie and strength, which fights to dispel the myth that mankind has reached the end of the line. Driven by power and pain, it pushes back against the grinding monotony and brutality of the modern world with sly jokes and mad dancing. Vibrant and fierce, provocative and playful, hilarious and exhausting, Desperado is coming for you. So put your hands up – it’s a raid! Supported using public funding by Arts Council England. Commissioned by Lincoln Performing Arts Centre. Supported by Attenborough Arts Centre (Leicester) and Derby Theatre of In Good Company, Camden People’s Theatre (London) and The HopBarn (Southwell).

a play after David Foster Wallace

Inspired by cult US writer David Foster Wallace’s short story Mister Squishy, Focus Group* is an absurd comedy with a dark heart, exploring the absurdity of modern life and consumer culture with humanity and humour. It is dark, unsettling and playful. The production celebrates the human drive to continue in what can feel like an increasingly remote reality. Through TOOT’s distinctive style of interactive performance, the company provokes audiences to consider whether a real connection is possible at all. Sit back, eat (individually wrapped, luxury) cake, and see a man gradually relinquish the delusion that he matters in the slightest.... And then go back to watching kitten videos on Facebook. By Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor

This hilarious trio are the stars of the popular hit CBeebies TV show ‘SPOTBOTS’ and also recently ‘Justin’s House’.

Saturday 18 February 7.30pm Acclaimed stars of the West End stage, the Reduced Shakespeare Company are back with another barnstormingly irreverent and breathtakingly hilarious celebration of our cultural heritage – as seen through the eyes of three Americans wearing trainers. In a better-late-than-never nod to the Bard’s 400th anniversary, the bad boys of abridgement present this ‘new’ play by the man himself, as discovered in a Leicester car park! The show, mercifully abridged by the RSC from its full hundred hour running time to a more palatable ninety minutes, embarks on its debut UK tour following world premiere seasons at the renowned Folger Shakespeare Library and the Edinburgh Fringe. “Hilarious, outrageous fun! A romp of epic proportions.”

Co-Directed with Sue MacLaine, the piece features an expansive sound score created in collaboration with composer/musician Scott Smith, and an epic lighting design by Aideen Malone.

STATUS UPDATE

TONIGHT I’M GONNA BE THE NEW ME

By Tim Etchells

Mon 13 – Weds 15 March 7.30pm

Thursday 9 March 7.30pm A woman takes to the stage. A man watches from the wings. They both wonder if their love will survive what’s about to happen. Tonight I’m Gonna Be The New Me is an arresting physical endurance act that crashes headfirst into an impossibly true love story - and out the other side. It exposes how we perform our relationships amidst a reality that just won’t live up to what the movies promised. Disarmingly honest and comically imagined, Tonight I’m Gonna Be The New Me pierces the bloody heart of our obsession with outlasting hardship. Intimate and startlingly immediate, it defies you to watch, in spite of yourself. “Slippery and teasing, murderously entertaining” “Tantalisingly edgy...a stinging piece of entertainment”
