WELCOME!
Director’s Choice
A big welcome to everyone from the team here at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre.
Family Friendly
It’s our tenth anniversary and to celebrate we have a fantastic range of activities lined up to share with all of our audiences throughout 2018 (you can find out more on page 6).
Insight
Highly recommended
Ten years is a long time and the social, cultural and economic landscape of 2018 is very different to that of January 2008, when the venue first opened its doors to the public. Although we have really relished the journey that we have taken together, we recognise that the world has changed significantly since we were first conceived and that we now have to work even harder to support the value of culture within our society. Consequently, we’re using our birthday celebrations to explore new possibilities, address challenges and develop different ways of placing our entire community at the heart of what we do. This includes shows programmed by the community, initiatives such as £10,000 worth of free tickets, which will help to remove some of the financial barriers to engagement in the arts, and large-scale creative interventions in the city, such as Architects of Air’s beautiful Pentalum Luminarium, which joins us by the Brayford for Eggcite, Lincoln’s Easter Arts Festival for Children. But most of all, we’re going to have a year-long party and we want you to join us for the fun! See you soon! The Team
Director’s Choice We have many great events on offer this season but if you like something a bit different, look out for this icon. I highly recommend it!

Give away £10,000 worth of free tickets We recognise that financial concerns are often a barrier to engagement with the arts and that the price of a ticket can often be too big a risk in terms of trying something new. In conjunction with the University of Lincoln, we’ll be offering free tickets to all events across the programme. Some of these tickets will be to specific groups, some to people new to the venue, whilst everyone will have a chance to win tickets for all of our shows in our weekly prize draw. Bring 10 New Things to Lincoln Lincoln Performing Arts Centre has a reputation for exciting and bold programming and we want to use 2018 to raise the bar even further. Across the year we’re planning to programme ten exciting events from regional, UK and internationally significant artists, new to the venue. This season includes Architects of Air, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, and Hoipolloi. Invite You To Pick 10 We’re inviting you, our audiences, to help programme our tenth anniversary celebrations. Join our decision-making groups and choose 10 special events that you want to bring to Lincoln. Hold 10 Community Residencies Taking the Pop Out Festival mentality we’re going to be taking our cultural activity out of the building and working with our different communities in 10 unique spaces, from shops, community centres, libraries and parks, to that bit of waste ground just down the road. Celebrate Lincoln with an Open Stage Day A community event, showcasing local talent, creativity and the diverse range of venue users on our main stage. Appoint an Associate Artist Over the years we’ve supported the creation of lots of shows that have gone on to tour nationally and internationally but we’ve never had the opportunity to invite a company to work with us for a longer period and our new Associate Artist scheme is designed to do just that.
Free events in Zing Café Bar Come and join us at Zing and enjoy fresh, affordable snacks and drinks throughout the day and into the evening. Thursday 8 February 7.30pm Funny and poignant, The Duke is an awardwinning new one-man show. It combines original storytelling with an inventive spirit. The Duke weaves together the tragi-comic fate of a family heirloom - a porcelain figure of The Duke of Wellington, the quandary of a scriptwriter stretching his integrity and an unfolding disaster as thousands of children flee their homes. Blending fantasy and reality, this playful show gently challenges our priorities in a world full of crisis. BEAUTIFUL
Five extraordinary female dancers lead us through their own experiences of sexuality and love, contrasted with an exploration of the history of women’s sexuality over time. We live in a time of gender fluidity, polyamory and moving away from the idea of a fixed identity or stereotype. Taking the autobiography of each woman and embedding it into the global - BeautifuL will celebrate the solidarity of women, by taking femininity to a more deeply truthful place - past the gloss of media spin and pressure to conform.

SHAPPI KHORSANDI: MISTRESS AND MISFIT Saturday 10 March 8pm
Inspired by the Horror movies of the 1950’s, this is a fast-paced rollicking ride, mixing paranoia, suspense and hilariously gruesome deaths.
Star of Live At The Apollo, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Have I Got News for You and Q.I, Shappi is on the road with her new sell out show.
It’s 1912, and as Scott and Amundsen begin their race across Antarctica, the hapless explorer, Captain Reginald Cranston Scot-t-t, has accidentally landed on the wrong side of the continent.
She has whip-crack jokes and is effortlessly funny as she handles every subject with a razor sharp wit, softened only by her deliciously mischievous delivery and endless charm.
As Cranston and his motley band set up base camp, a meteor crashes nearby. Deciding to investigate, they set out towards the crash site unaware of the danger that awaits not just them, but the whole of planet Earth. “Hilarious” Total Theatre VENUE MAGAZINE “Brilliant” “Anarchic comedy theatre at its best” FRINGE REVIEW CHORTLE “Outstanding” “Madcap farce”

The rich have got richer, the middle’s squeezed tight, and the poor are being dragged ever downwards. The Audit tells the story of how a nation raised their voices in protest, and how collective power can move a mountain – even if only a little. MORGAN & WEST: TIME TRAVELLING MAGICIANS
Friday 16 March 7.30pm
SPOTLIGHT As seen on The Next Great Magician Penn & Teller: Fool Us!
Thursday 15 March 7.30pm Great Scott! Time-travelling magicians Morgan & West bring a magical extravaganza to a millennium near you! Not content with their lot as the nineteenth century’s greatest magic duo, this prestidigitatory pair present a conjuring spectacular to the audiences of the modern day. No future is left unseen and no timeline left unaltered as these temporal tricksters burst into the twenty-first century with a show brimming over with baffling magic, unparalleled precognitive powers, and a totally genuine ability to travel through time! An unforgettable evening of magic, mystery, and the unexplainable.
It’s May 1997. Tony Blair has won the election and Katrina and the Waves have won Eurovision. Channel 5 is a month old. No one knows who Harry Potter is. Britain is the coolest place in the world. At the local secondary school it’s a different story. Miss Belltop-Doyle can’t control her year 9s, Mr Pashley has been put in charge of a confiscated tamagotchi and for some unknown reason Princess Anne is attending the Year 11 leavers assembly. Tobias, the German language assistant, watches on. Things can only get better. The Wardrobe Ensemble’s (1972: The Future of Sex) love letter to the schools of the 90s asks big questions about a country in special measures, exploring what we are taught and why, and where responsibility lies.
