We work with and only recommend trusted installers who approach their job with the same passion and attention to detail as we do. Paired with the quality of the product we supply, this has helped us to have such a long and successful trading history. We constantly retrain our staff to keep up with ever-changing product lines and fashions but ensure that the service we offer is consistently to the highest standard” Large scale showroom refurbishments took place recently; Firstly with a complete overhaul of New Wave’s Heritage Bathroom Centre, showcasing the latest in classic and countrystyled bathroom equipment - trends which are currently sweeping the nation and secondly, the purpose-built Crosswater Bathrooms shop-in-shop area was launched, focusing on contemporary design and modern day living. Summer of 2019 By Jane de Weijer : Make Space Interiors ltd Contact: www.makespaceinteriors.co.uk
Summer is here and to celebrate the season I am looking at vibrant colours, gorgeous florals , braids and trims . It is the time, after months of winter weather, to kick back, fling open the doors and windows and let those summer shades come into your rooms.
LIVING CORAL Pantone have chosen Living Coral as their 2019 Colour of the Year. More vibrant than the soft pinks that have recently been ‘on-trend’, they describe this rich colour as “an animated, life-affirming shade of orange, with golden undertones, a colour of carefree happiness, it symbolises our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, a feeling that perhaps, people might be craving in today’s landscape. Colour enhances and influences the way we experience life,” Pantone 2019, Team this shade with aqua marines, deep pinks, pastel greens and purples to enhance the rich orange tones.
It is exciting to see that the introduction of bold colours and patterns to Interior Design schemes continues, reflecting the movement from natural shades, taupes and neutrals, it will dominate the interior Design market for some time. Enjoy the exciting shades that you will be finding on the High Street over the summer. Colour is back! I have put together a board for a summer style coral room. As soon as the Pantone colour of the year is announced you will find it in the High Street so you should be able to introduce this on-trend shade to your room right now.

FLORAL FINISHES Choosing your finishes, fabrics and furniture and dressing your home is as personal as choosing your outfit, therefore if strong corals are not for you maybe this palette of soft summer florals will appeal. The combination of soft linens, faded florals and classic furniture designs are quintessentially English. They can be layered and, using a combination of florals, patterns, shades and hues, create a room much like a summer garden in full bloom. You can also combine pared back simple style with a touch of floral as I have done here on my summer floral board. I have chosen one floral fabric as my centrepiece and introduced linens and subtle details to enhance.

My centrepiece floral wallpaper epitomises English summers, cream teas and cricket. Peonia Grande Zinc www.designersguild.com. Re discover tassels and trims, they add detail to both curtain tie-backs, blinds and accessories. They add that touch of individuality to your room. This tie back from a range by www.stephanoise-mediac.com Go simple and classic with chairs and sofas. Upholster this chair to create a strong statement. www.livingitupchairs.com Choose from a range of linens for cushions, blinds and footstools. They age well, look as if they have been in place for a long time, and add to the timeless elegance that we are aiming to create. For this room I would keep window treatments simple so that the focus of the space is on the florals and patterns. A roller blind to the window, maybe embellished with a luxurious trim. I love the Cow Parsley design on this fabric, also available in a wallpaper, by www.cole-and-son.com, Use on cushions, blinds and to upholster footstools and chairs. Pile on the cushions, both plains and contrasting patterns. This room style needs to look like it has been ‘growing’ for many years and this can be achieved by not matching cushions and curtains but combining colours, textures and finishes. The key to doing this successfully is to look for colours that run through and link all the elements. For example this cushion, includes florals and a strong pink which can also be found on the main floral wallpaper. ( 1).

TRIMS Creating an interior with your ‘stamp’ on it can be done in many ways. Your colour combinations, choice of finishes and choice of accessories being the obvious way to achieve this. Exploring the use of embellishments can also add that subtle ,intricate and individual detailing.

I love this selection of tassels , trims and tie backs. Go searching for vintage trims, these are from a selection at www.justpoles.com for inspiration. This gorgeous floral tape is iron -on and can be used to create floral bands on cushions and throws. From a selection at www.stephanoise-mediac.com
Search the internet for inspiration, including Pinterest and Instagram, there is also nothing better than searching the High Street and Vintage shops for ribbons, beads, pom poms and cords that can be used to embellish your soft furnishings.

Finally, I love the summer sea shell themed fabric from Designers Guild. Beautiful for any room to add that summer seaside touch. Designers Guild, ‘Captain Thomas Browns Shells’, nautical wallpaper. www.designersguild.com
Here’s to summer 2019 ,may there be plenty of sunshine, blue skies and outdoor living. Bring the outdoors in and enjoy your summer!

A natural beach inspired ensuite from Roman Bathrooms Chris and Julie love their new ensuite from Roman Bathrooms, here is their story. We've always been really impressed with the team at Roman Bathrooms, in their professional approach and in the way they are able to make suggestions for things to think about, taking account of budget considerations, ensuring the highest standards and a quality outcome. When we approached Roman Bathrooms about our new ensuite, we had some ideas about colour schemes, as we wanted to go for a natural stone and bleached wood effect, similar to what you may see at the beach etc. We also wanted a walk-in shower, without the need for screens, to get that wet-room feel. With the professional support of Claire in providing designs, recommendations and ideas, we were able to see our dreams become reality. Once again the fitters, provided by Roman Bathrooms were professional and tidy. Roman Bathrooms really do give attention to every detail, to make sure the customer is at the centre of their designs and service. Now the whole family is enjoying Mom and Dad's new ensuite! Thank you again Claire! We would happily recommend Roman Bathrooms to anyone for any new bathroom or kitchen. 16

Davbro Builders the Velux Certified Installers
The Velux Certified Installer Partnership was the new goal for Davbro Builders.
I fitted my first Velux roof window 27 years ago. I hadn’t got a clue what I was doing really; newly qualified as a Carpenter and Joiner I was tasked to fit this roof Velux window. It was a very daunting task cutting a hole in someone’s roof, but I got it fitted and no leaks!
An application had to be made for status and our work was checked by the British Board of Agreement. An onsite visit to check our work was carried out and this was thorough. The visit comprised of making sure the windows were fitted to Velux guild lines, gaps were the right size and all the parts were fitted correctly. Following this we had to answer questions on fitting, and all this was done in front of our customer! As far as we are aware Velux are the only company to go this far on making sure installers know exactly what they are doing.
Davbro Builders was set up in 2002, a small family building company. Myself and my brother started general building projects but were always looking for a gap in the construction industry where we could be different to regular builders. After seeing an advert in the Velux Roof windows Brochure for training we applied.
We gained Velux Certified status 25th August 2015 and have found it very beneficial especially having direct links to Velux find an installer website.
Velux offered us training at their Kettering Offices – a very impressive purpose built complex where training was carried out. The main purpose of offering the training was to ensure their product was fitted correctly and that all the product options were used. We received training certificates from Velux, but we were looking at how we could use this training to make us stand out and show as a company we knew what we were doing.
Being a Certified Velux installer, we get a variety of enquiries, from a new installation to parts and servicing enquiries. Recently we were contacted by Clent Hills Veterinary Practice because they had an ongoing problem with a Velux window that was leaking quite badly. The window had been fitted about 15 years ago and you could see very clearly that water was getting in and damaging the ceiling. We erected scaffolding and found that the Velux flashing kit had been cut to fit the size of window, not a good idea! We replaced the Flashing kit and supplied a BFX 1000 underfelt collar to guarantee no more water ingress. The Velux BFX 1000 underfelt collar is a great option to fit, guaranteeing water tightness every time. We go to quite a few problematic Velux installations, it’s not the product it’s the installer that’s at fault. Anybody can fit a Velux window, but can they fit it correctly? Some do, unfortunately some haven’t got a clue. The answer to this - use a Velux certified installer.
Velux soon introduced a rating system for its trained installers called VIP Installer Partnership. We aimed for the highest rating and meeting all their requirements we received 5 Star status - their highest rating. This was very successful for us; we could see that customers required competent trained installers. Potential customers found us through the Velux Installer web site and enquiries came through to us at Davbro Builders. A few years ago, Velux had a change in policy and wanted a governing body involved in the regulation of fitters.

A goal without a plan is just a wish goal without a plan is just a wish Selling a property is easy, the online agents have proven that, so why should you pay more and chose a traditional agent? Because you don’t just want to sell your property, you want to sell your property for a premium price and you want someone to take care of everything for you and relieve all the stress and worry from the process.
utilising a carefully developed plan our clients know what to expect at every stage and we have the tools to allow us to stay in contact with them throughout the entire process. Each of my clients are presented with a personalised written timeline that will give them details of what will happen and when. We find that many estate agents, particularly the ones that over value your home and sign you into a long contract, have no real plan in place to help you sell your property, simply posting your property on the portals and hoping for the best. Achieving a premium price requires a great strategy and even greater plan. It is important you have a clear and concise strategic approach to your marketing, tailored to the buyers you want to attract. Our plan does just that. We are so confident our plan will succeed and that we will exceed your expectations we only charge you anything when your sale completes and you can end our instruction to market your property immediately at any time.
This is why I have a strategy that I have crafted over 15 years that forms the backbone of the carefully designed bespoke plan that I follow for each property that I market. Time and time again it has helped my clients to achieve the best price in the shortest amount of time possible. Some estate agents have a very good marketing strategy, but not all of them and most don't have a detailed plan that they share with their clients. I believe by sharing our plan from the start I illustrate to you I understand what it takes to achieve the best price and most importantly right from day one you understand what is happening at each stage and what to expect moving forward. The number one issue people have with their agent is poor communication. By

Heaven looks at you from the
Brooklyn Bridge
by Rebecca Underwood, Travel Journalist Brooklyn, one of New York’s five boroughs, is connected to Manhattan by the mighty Brooklyn Bridge, spanning 1.3 miles across the East River. On its opening day in 1883, amid much fanfare and celebrations, more that 150,000 people walked across it. Local residents later suspected that the structure was unsound and rumours continued to spread until the flamboyant Phineas Taylor Barnum; founder of the Barnum and Bailey Circus; guided 21 elephants over it. Recognised as a National Historic Landmark in 1964, the Brooklyn Bridge continues to be a major tourism attraction.
website, is comfortable and spacious and features an enormous kitchen with every appliance including a washing machine and dryer. There is also a garden with a barbecue and a selection of garden furniture, which is ideal when the night temperature is favourable. I strolled along to Bedford Avenue and popped into Fancy Nancy’s, and it was buzzing with locals, which is always a good sign. I sampled the succulent New England baked cod, served with tartar sauce, seared green beans and buttered potatoes. It’s a first class dish, served with pizzazz. To stock up on groceries, the Down to Earth Farmer’s Sunday Market on Park Slope’s 4th Street at 5th Avenue is ideal. Crammed with vendors selling a huge variety of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, baked goods and dairy products, this is a great place to mingle with the locals and to get a true ‘feel’ for Brooklyn.
Today, Brooklyn is in fashion, it’s a ‘go to’ destination for tourism, a focal point for up and coming entrepreneurs, digital startup companies, and a ‘cool’ spot for modern designers and artists. Keen to experience life in the local community, I moved into a two bedroom apartment in a classic Victorian brownstone property located in the leafy Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood. Only 2.5 blocks from the subway, this is the perfect spot in the heart of the action giving guests the opportunity to take part in local life, if only for a short time. The apartment, listed on the HomeAway
For a deeper insight, I headed for the Brooklyn Museum, on Eastern Parkway. One of the many collections, ‘Something to say: Brooklyn HiArt!’ runs until 30 June 2019, and features textbased works, by local artists. The striking works are prominently displayed in the museum’s public spaces. Using questions, language and humour, the intension is to encourage 30
Our Travel and in the Hall of Animals I encountered a mean looking poison dart frog, at a very safe distance! Strolling around the nearby Grand Army Plaza, I hopped in a yellow taxi in search of a shopping expedition. Brooklyn offers an enticing range of trendy boutiques and huge malls including City Point (entrances on Albee Square West and Flatbush Avenue), which features Century 21, a popular department store crammed with 7 floors of designer fashions at discounted prices. As an unrepentant handbag and shoe addict I succumbed to the temptations of Love Moschino and a funky pair of boots by Donna Karan. Credit card limit intact, I hurried along to Macy’s a short walk away on Fulton Street.
Brooklyn apartment
Fully laden with bags of goodies I hopped on the local public bus and made my way to Williamsburg, another popular Brooklyn district, which is simply bursting with bars, eateries and entertainment. I stayed a stone’s throw away at the 23 storey William Vale hotel, located on North 12th Street. Facilities include New York’s longest outdoor swimming pool, which is perched above the property’s 15,000 square feet rooftop park, and it affords spectacular views. Accommodations are
dialogue related to local and national issues, and it’s impressive. After feasting my wide eyes on so many modern treasures I headed off to the Norm, the museum’s bustling café, where temptations included a delicious Thai curry shrimp soup and I was persuaded to try more than a sliver of carrot cake. For those seeking an authentic American dining experience, Junior’s, which opened in 1950, is located on Flatbush Avenue EXT. The menu features a wide selection of deli-style and traditional sandwiches along with Junior’s famous 10oz char-broiled steak burgers. I opted for the sky-scraper deli-style pastrami sandwich and with a smidgeon of appetite remaining I just had to try the ‘World’s best cheesecake’, which was everything I expected. After that guilty pleasure I took a very brisk walk to Prospect Park’s Zoo, which is highly regarded, due to its continuous and successful conservation efforts. Home to over 600 animals, attractions include Animal Lifestyles, which features a very vocal Hamadryas Baboon, a gorgeous Pallas’s Cat and a group of Geoffrey’s Marmosets, constantly squabbling over fruit and just about anything else. I followed the Discovery Trail and was enchanted by the adorable red pandas,

For a Scandinavian dining experience I headed for Norman, a hop and skip away on Norman Avenue. Popular with locals and outof-towners, this minimalist style restaurant features a lively long bar and an open kitchen with a bevy of chefs creating some fine dishes. I ordered the succulent braised lamb with eggplant and black vinegar and it was served with aplomb.
As buses and coaches are banned from crossing the bridge the best option is to follow the pedestrian walkway in the centre of the traffic lanes. The walkway is surprisingly narrow and on arrival it was clear to me that a lot of people had the same idea at the same time! But, it was more than worth it as I gazed upon the astounding views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty and I recalled Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn’s wonderful song and Frank Sinatra’s soothing voice: ‘Like the folks you meet on, like to plant my feet on, the Brooklyn Bridge, what a lovely view from, Heaven looks at you from, the Brooklyn Bridge……………..
Another great place to stay is the Tillary Hotel on Flatbush Avenue Ext, which is a short stroll from the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade, and it’s a stylish and contemporary property. Accommodations range from a classic king

Momentous Music Festival for Winterfold Musicians one winner – that was Charlie Maguire on the Trombone, playing the toe tapping Tennessee Rag. Charlie came home with the Sedgley Townswomen’s Guild Trophy. Luke Culwick impressed the adjudicator with his ‘magnificent tone’ on the E flat bass, winning the Amblecote Trophy in his category.
Winterfold School in Chaddesley Corbett is celebrating after scooping a record breaking 10 trophies for individual and group classes at the 59th Dudley Festival of Music, Drama and Dance in March. Both the Winterfold School Chamber Choir and Girls' Harmony Choir came home with The Coseley Male Voice Choir Trophy and the Cecil Drew Trophy for ‘excellent choral work’. The Girls' Harmony Choir in particular, wowed the adjudicators, as they attained a phenomenal 91 marks from 100 for their un-conducted close harmony renditions of Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree and For Good from the musical Wicked. The adjudicator remarked that she could not continue to write, as she had to sit and listen to their skillful performance.
The last weekend of the Festival (9th/10th March) was just as successful as the first. Olivia Leung sang a Grade 6 song in the Vocal Solo 1112 years class. Olivia’s performance was truly magical, as she mesmerised the audience with Chilcott’s Time of Snow, for which Olivia won the Freda Round Cup. Rosie Brookes won the Roland Dean Trophy for her beautiful portrayal of the classic song The Water is Wide, arranged by Bullard. This was not Rosie’s only success, as she later went on to win the Violin Solo class for children 12 years and under. For this, she played Concerto in G Op 3 No 3 1st Movement, Allegro by Vivaldi, from memory. The adjudicator remarked that although the standard of the class had been extremely high, with many of the competitors playing Grade 7 pieces, Rosie was ‘clearly, and without doubt’ worthy of the Evelyn Cliff Cup.
During the weekend of 2nd/3rd March, for children taking part in individual vocal and instrumental classes, Winterfold was just as successful. Olivia Leung attained first place and the Helen Bailey Cup in her woodwind class with her beautiful, ‘thought provoking and well-articulated’ Rondeau, played on the clarinet. Alex Witt then stormed into first place playing Allegro Appasionato on the saxophone – bringing home the Solihull School Saxophone Trophy. The adjudicator remarked that Alex had a remarkable range, with good dynamics and clear tone. William Phillips engaged the room with his trumpet playing, coming home with the James Hough Trophy.
Commenting on the competition, Head of Music, Jerry Price said “I accompanied the choirs this year and was delighted with their win, as I am for all of the winners. It was my first time at the Festival and I was hugely impressed with the venue, adjudicating and the organisation of the event. Thank you for making us so welcome and for further helping to boost the confidence of these wonderful young performers.”
In class 94, Brass Solo Grade 2-3, Winterfold held all candidate places. However, although all four candidates played beautifully and were all very closely marked, there could only be 34

The family themed raceday, which was free for children, was jam-packed with activities including bouncy castles, inflatables, face painting, Easter Eggs and a chocolate tombola. Not only was there plenty to do around the racecourse to keep the kids entertained, but families enjoyed live-action horse racing right from the trackside. The racecourse has been at the heart of Wolverhampton City Centre since 1825, so supporting a national charity with local feet was extremely important to the venue. Every
year approximately 220 young people are diagnosed with cancer in the West Midlands region. Teenage Cancer Trust makes sure that no young person faces cancer alone. Teenage Cancer Trust funds 3 specialist units in the West Midlands, at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. Kerry Morris, Marketing Manager at Wolverhampton Racecourse said “Our Family Fundays are always very popular with local families and it was great to support and raise awareness and vital funds for Teenage Cancer Trust at such an appropriate fixture this Easter.” Teenage Cancer Trust will return again in the summer when the racecourse hosts its ‘Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside’ theme on Friday 16 August. 5 REASONS TO MAKE EXERCISE APART OF YOUR ROUTINE Are you at the point now where you want to have more energy, get rid of the aches and pains of everyday life and feel the best you ever have? Then you need to make exercise apart of your weekly routine. There are so many different factors that stop us from exercising but it is something that we SHOULD make time for so that we can live the life that we want. SO here are 5 reasons why you should be exercising and how it will benefit your life: • Exercise can help with Fat Loss – now it’s not all about losing weight however, it sure as hell goes a long way to making you feel more confident within yourself to do the things you want to do. Like wearing the clothes you want, or being able to eat the foods you enjoy without the fear of adding weight! It burns calories! • Exercise can help combat health conditions long term – Exercise helps reduce Cardiovascular disease, lowers blood pressure, diabetes and many more. It can also help with mental health too by releasing endorphins (a feel good hormone) it will help those who suffer with depression, and helps reduce stress and anxiety as it is an outlet. • Exercise lifts Moods and Boosts your Energy Levels – Are you someone who suffers with low mood and has no energy? Well exercise stimulates brain chemical that will leave you feeling healthier and happier. This will in turn boost confidence and improve self-esteem as a result so that you don’t second guess yourself all the time. • Exercise promotes better sleep – so if you’re someone who tends to hit the snooze button or someone who struggles to get to sleep, exercise will help you fall asleep quicker and into a deeper sleep so that your body can recover. Be aware of exercising too late as it will stimulate your body but all in all, the effects are good apart, it’s all positive! • REMEMBER Exercise can be FUN… - It doesn’t have to be going to the same old gym, walking on the same old treadmill! You can find a sport that you love and enjoy to keep fit! Or you can work within groups led by Personal Trainers where they support you throughout and you can meet like-minded people who want the same as you! This way you can share your achievements together! So if you’re someone who wants to make exercise part of their daily routine but doesn’t necessarily want to a gym – try new things out – look for things that you enjoy. As Einstein said - Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Jamie Evans 40

STOURBRIDGE RUGBY PARTNERS WITH SPORTS IN SCHOOLS TO LAUNCH ITS COMMUNITY RUGBY DEPARTMENT Stourbridge Rugby are excited to announce a new Community Rugby Department for the Club which will deliver a wide range of sports projects and supply quality sports coaching to schools and organisations in the local area and beyond, working with Sports in Schools who specialise in the formation and operating of community departments for sporting clubs and businesses. Matt Price, Managing Director of Sports in Schools Ltd. added: “Sports in Schools are delighted to be working with Stourbridge Rugby on community initiatives. It has been a really good process to get to this stage with some great people behind it. We are starting with a ready-made Head of Community in Chad Thorne who I have previously worked with and will do wonders for the department at the Club. We have already secured engagement with local schools through our ‘Reading & Rugby’ project and gained further education links. A community department is now a major part of a rugby club’s operational activity and we are delighted to be working on behalf of the Club.”
The department - which will be headed by current Stourbridge Rugby player Chad Thorne - has been established following close work between the Club and Sports in Schools Ltd. Speaking about the appointment, Stourbridge Rugby Chairman Robin Edwards said: “We have been looking at how to promote rugby locally by engaging with schools and the wider community. To reach out and make the sport accessible we recognised the advantages in developing a community department within the Club and after detailed discussions we have decided to work with Matt Price and his team at Sports in Schools. SiS bring a wealth of skills and experience and their guidance combined with our contacts and enthusiasm will provide exciting new opportunities for the future of our Club.”
If you would like to know more about what exactly Stourbridge Rugby Community can offer you, your school or organisation, please phone 01384 395000 or email chad.thorne@sportsinschools.co.uk for further information.
Robin continued, “We are delighted to launch the Community Department and we would welcome any contact with local schools, colleges or individual coaches wanting to know more about what we can provide.” 44

Our Jobs
Why I Love My Job The Golf season is fast approaching, and at most golf clubs around the country, the levels of participation will go through the roof. Competitions galore await the casual golfers who look for success and entertainment throughout the summer. However, this doesn't come to fruition without the guidance and expertise of PGA professionals. At Stourbridge Golf Club, this is where Mark Male comes in. The cornerstone at Stourbridge Golf Club for nearly 30 years, Mark has dedicated his professional life to help build and sustain the standard of golfing excellence.
Stourbridge for over 20 years now. Since taking over the role and the shop, he has made it his own. “One thing I have wanted is for the shop to live up to it’s name and bring the members and customers professionalism when it comes to service. I believe that communication is key”
He tells us about himself, his Professional Shop and his plans for the forthcoming season. Mark started to get into golf when he was a boy. Along with a few childhood friends, he enrolled as a junior golfer at Hagley Golf and Country Club. Every since then, the game of golf has been an important part of his life.
Open 364 days a year, from early morning until dusk, the professional shop is the first point of contact for all individuals. Whether the customer is looking for golf necessities or information about the club, Mark and his team will offer a fantastic and satisfactory service for all enquiries made.
“I became the Assistant Professional to Bill Firkins Jr. at Stourbridge!” Exclaimed Mark. “Like all aspiring professionals have to do today, I worked hard to obtain my qualifications, improved my performance on the course and became a PGA Professional. Once Bill had stepped down, I was lucky enough to continue his hard work as the Head Professional at Stourbridge Golf Club.”
Furthermore, the shop itself consists of leading brands in all departments. From top clothing and shoe lines such as Callaway and Sketchers, to premium golf bags and clubs from Motocaddy and Mizuno, Mark’s can offer all aspects of golfing utilities at excellent prices.
Mark has been the Head Professional at 46
Our Jobs “In regards to equipment and clothing, you’ve got to roll with the times. Custom fitted clubs are huge these days, so I have brought multiple fitting centres into the for those who are looking for the perfect clubs to improve their game”. When it comes to golfing equipment, Mark has been described as the ‘jack of all trades’! The introduction to custom club fittings into his long list of shop services has proven to be very successful. Mark offers clubs from Mizuno, Callaway and Lynx; which provides golfers with quality options. These services also include club alterations, repairs and grip replacement so they stay in optimal condition.
enjoy a summer of golf”. Mark also has a competitive edge when it comes to professional tournaments. Throughout the golfing season, he visits golf clubs all of the Midlands region to put himself to the test against fellow professionals.
Above all else, the reason why Mark loves his job so much is because of the satisfaction of watching the development of a golfer. “My true passion within golf is coaching” Mark stated. “I have seen juniors that I have taught for years grow into lovely golfers and are now playing off low handicaps. It’s incredible! I genuinely believe that I will never grow tired of doing this”.
“One of my other targets for the season is to play a lot more! I would love continue my momentum from last year and enjoy some success. I changed a few aspects in my swing since then, so I’m looking forward to seeing the changes in action!”
Mark has a reputation of being able to turn his hand to any level of golfer and of any age when it comes to his sessions. His one-to-one lessons are highly commended by Stourbridge Golf Club members and fellow PGA professionals. He has been fortunate to have fantastic facilities at Stourbridge Golf Club to assist in his teaching. With an undercover practice area and a well-maintained practice green and bunker, it gives Mark the opportunity to give his pupils the best chances of success.
The final target for Mark during the season is to keep up his hard work for the Worcestershire PGA; where he served as Captain in 2016 and is currently serving as Chairman. “Seeing all of hard work pay off is brilliant, but to have it lead me to the role of Chairman of my county in the PGA is an unbelievable honour for me” Mark said proudly. “Everything I have put into my dream job come to fruition in recent years is completely surreal; it gives me even more motivation to keep this up for years to come”.
His love for coaching and participation has led him to start up two brand new teaching academies. These are for ladies and juniors that are looking to get into golf. During these sessions, Mark undertakes sessions with multiple pupils at once. Teaching them the basics of the game and all of the important aspects such as the rules and course etiquette.

Our Weddings
POST WEDDING TO DO LIST Organising a wedding is both exhausting and exhilarating. Once it’s all over and you are back from honeymoon it’s easy to feel somewhat deflated or fatigued, but there are still plenty of things that need to be done before you can truly settle into married life.
Pre-Honeymoon Preparation
Thank You Cards
Before heading off on your honeymoon, make sure your house is in order. There is nothing more depressing than returning after your romantic break to find the chaos of the wedding preparations reminding you that it’s all over!
One of the first things you need to do is send out thank you cards to the people who attended the wedding and remember that you are not just thanking them for their gift. Some guests will have gone to great expense to join you on your special day, having paid out for their outfits, accommodation, taxi and bar bills as well as a present! The least you can do is send a short, personalised message to each guest or couple, thanking them for their time and effort as well as your wedding present.
You will no doubt have received gifts and even sums of money so make sure that they are tucked out of eyesight. A pile of unopened gifts and cards on the dining room table could notify prying eyes that you are not at home! Likewise have a neighbour collect your post while you’re away. If you haven’t settled all the bills from the wedding make sure your suppliers are notified of your holiday plans and assure them that all bills will be paid on your return.
This is quite a task and is much more easily achieved if you do it in batches. Set yourself a goal of 10 to 20 per day, split the task with your new spouse and you’ll find you’ll be finished in no time at all. With a smaller amount to write each day you can take more time over them and the chances are that your messages will be more heartfelt than they might be if you are trying to write them all in one go!
You really don’t want to be chased for payment on your honeymoon so if everyone is clear of the payment timeline you and your loved one can turn off your phones, leave the laptop at home, and make the most of your time together as newlyweds before heading back to reality. 48
Our Weddings need to choose which photographs you want and in what format. Don’t forget to order extras for family and friends. This can be far harder than it seems as you will probably want to keep all of them, but don’t take too long. Depending on the conditions of your photography contract, additional charges may be incurred for orders placed outside a specified time.
Clean The Dress
The Legal Stuff
Your wedding dress is probably the most expensive item of clothing you have ever purchased and worn. Of course, unlike the Groom who will probably wear his suit again, you will not be wearing your dress again (unless you attend a Trash the Dress party) but you might decide to sell it, or even keep it in the family to be passed down to your children or grandchildren. You may want to keep old traditions alive and use the dress to make christening dresses or trimming for your little one’s cradle when the time comes. The longer you wait, the more stubborn those stains become, so aim to have your dress dry cleaned and packed carefully if storing as soon as possible.
If you haven’t already talked about money and how to fund your married lifestyle, now is the time to do it. Decide if you are combining incomes and if there will there be joint accounts. Make a date to visit a trusted lawyer to discuss your financial future and security and make changes to beneficiaries of superannuation, life insurance and wills. It’s the least exciting item on the ‘to do list’, but by far the most important.
Review Your Wedding Suppliers All being well you will have been thrilled with every element of your wedding so it’s now time to share the love. After all, how many reviews did you read when selecting your suppliers? Do your bit and make the effort to supply feedback for wedding service providers. Be truthful and mention both those you felt under-delivered or exceeded your expectations. A positive supplier review will encourage new clients, while constructive criticism will help them identify weaknesses and improve their services.
Change Your Name You may be a Thoroughly Modern Millie and have decided to keep your own name but if not, you will need to think about starting the tedious process of changing your surname. Everyone will need to be notified. Banks, insurance providers, health records etc. and they will all need a copy of your marriage certificate or in some cases a visit in person, though many vendors will allow you to at least start the process online.
There’s nothing quite like word of mouth from those who’ve gone before to give a newly engaged couple starting their wedding planning a few hints and tips. As you’ll have just been through it, you’re best placed to give recommendations to start them off.
Choose Your Photographs It’s always really exciting receiving the professional images of your wedding from the photographer and it provides the perfect excuse to cuddle up with your new spouse, crack open a bottle of champagne and relive the joy and romance of your special day. Once you have had a good look through you will
Enjoy Married Life Once these little things have been addressed there is little more to do than sit back, enjoy married life, and in time start, gently planning for your happy future together. 49

Nick and Royston's Diary Diary for Spring With Spring now upon us, the Wedding season was kicked off with one of our very own. It has been a year of babies at the salon and now a long-awaited wedding! Charles has been with the salon for 10years, where he met his gorgeous wife to be, Samantha and romance blossomed! It is always an honour to be asked to style a Bride for her big day and when you have Nick at your fingertips, you can guarantee he will create something truly stunning. The bride looked beautiful in a silk dress and Nick complimented the dress with a soft chignon. The Wedding was held at a pretty church at Lawley, where clients, friends and colleagues, were invited to share the ceremony and the reception was held at Tern Hill Hotel in Market Drayton. The rest of the team arrived later to celebrate and party the night away on the dancefloor. It was a beautiful day, spent with a lovely family and friends and we wish them a very happy future together.
Lip Sync Evening in Liverpool The staff at The Royal and Broadgreen University Hospital, swopped their uniforms for a Charity Lip Sync that Song Charity event @ the iconic nightclub Garlands Liverpool. Ten acts took to the stage to strut their stuff in front of celebrity judges Nick, Royston and Tina Malone. The evening was kicked off with a touch of glamour from the Drag Queens from the Garlands and the audience were wowed by the likes of Christina Aguilera and the Nolans . A lot of laughs and fun were had by all and they raised over ÂŁ8000, lets hope next year Royston is one of the acts!!!!!

The Grand Theatre`s 125 Year Anniversary As massive fans of The Grand Theatre, Nick and Royston were thrilled to be invited to join a host of celebrities to a Gala Dinner at The Molineux to celebrate 125 years. Joining them on the Red Carpet were great friends Christopher Biggins, Linda Lusardi, Suzi Perry and Su Pollard, to name but a few VIP guests. The evening was hosted by ITV`s Nick Owen and the celebrations included a formal Dinner, celebrity interviews and an amazing auction. It was a great night for the Theatre and Wolverhampton, let`s hope it’s still there in another 125 years!
Night with Beverley Knight As a local girl, Beverley has been a friend for many years. So, when Her fabulous mom Deloris, wanted to raise money for the Cruse Bereavement Charity, where she volunteers, Nick and Royston were first for a table!!! Rounding up all their friends to help support the event, the evening was hosted at The Ramada Hotel and Wolverhampton`s finest were out in force. Fans and guests were in the party spirit from the start and Beverley treated everyone to a truly wonderful performance. The evening was even more special, when they got Royston up on stage, where Deloris had made Royston a magnificent birthday cake and Beverley sang Happy Birthday! It really was a night to remember, but they raised over ÂŁ35,000 for a remarkable cause. Thank you to all the family and friends for such a great night!

ONE-TO-ONE PRIVATE THERAPY SERVICE
Feeling low on a daily basis? Been diagnosed with a mental health illness such as anxiety, depression or OCD? Maybe you have an unhealthy habit such as smoking, excessive alcohol in-take that you would dearly love to move away from.
however unsettling symptoms in the body like palpitations, panic attacks, stomach churning, headaches, body pain can be in many cases fuelled by negative thinking that stems from our inner belief system? Our primitive brain is very skilled at releasing chemicals such as adrenaline to help fuel our actions based on our thinking. It is very easy for the body to then become unbalanced resulting in illness and impacting on the immune system.
Is your overall level of happiness as high as you would like? Do you have good intentions with your physical wellbeing and personal appearance (gyms, beauty, weight-loss clubs etc) yet you are unable to sustain longer term commitment to achieving your personal goals and end up dissatisfied with your efforts.
On a personal basis I have learnt the benefits that can be achieved by changing how we think and act each day. Even basic things like confidence will be down to a lack of inner self belief.
Are you lacking confidence or motivation in other areas? Do you know what really causes unhappiness? Take a moment to think about the concept that none of us were born unhappy. As our brain develops, our inner belief system grows subject to our experiences. The child that is consistently told they are not very good at something grows up to believe this and therefore stops learning or trying to improve in that area. It’s the minds job to move us away from pain and towards pleasure. When we are put in situations that cause discomfort or we don’t understand as a child then we create beliefs that can go on to restrict us as we get older.
Looking after the body’s health is ever more important in order to ward off serious illness, however many people don’t think to consider the importance of looking after their mental wellbeing. So, what’s stopping you from investing in your own (or family’s) mental health to achieve lasting change that brings a feeling of peace and a restored sense of happiness every day? Contact Tracy today to learn about transformational services, receive free confidential advice and discuss the options of possible further support or therapy via her business – Transforming Me

Is anxiety holding you back? The chances are that while reading this, you are grabbing a few minutes to sit down and take a short break. The pace at which we live our lives is demanding: juggling work, family commitments and a busy diary of events can sometimes feel overwhelming. While we all feel anxious from time-to-time, anxiety can become excessive and persistent, with its psychological, emotional and physiological symptoms, such as ‘panic attacks’, impacting on our daily lives and those around us.
Hilary Sims - Life Balance
Hilary also helps people dealing with anger, depression, bullying, family breakdown, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement and trauma, listening, offering non-judgmental support and helping clients identify ways of dealing with situations. Therapy sessions take place at her practice or in the home or workplace. “A problem shared is indeed a problem halved. I believe we should all take time to focus on ourselves and affirm that we are living our lives in a balanced way. Being self-aware gives us the opportunity to addressing issues before they manifest into something bigger,” she adds.
Hilary Sims, a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society, is helping individuals of all ages, couples, families and employees of local businesses talk about anxiety and take positive action through her private practice, ‘Life Balance - Counselling Just For You’, based in Stourbridge.
Hilary is also experienced in working with senior school-aged children and young people, and says children can benefit hugely from talking therapies. “As a mum and through my work in a school environment I have experienced at first hand the pressures of growing up in an image-obsessed society, exam stress, family and relationship issues, social anxiety and fears about their future. Giving children the opportunity to talk about their feelings and helping them develop strategies to manage them doesn’t just benefit them in the short term; it raises self-esteem, instils in them the confidence to ask for help when they need it and the understanding that they can overcome any problems they encounter.”
“I give people a safe, confidential space to focus on themselves, explore the issues causing their anxiety, and regain control of their thoughts and behaviours through cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a collaborative intervention which involves talking and doing,” she explains. “We talk about things in the therapy room which are then practiced between sessions.”
Hilary offers a free 30 minute introductory consultation. To book or for further information, call 07850 447585 or visit www. lifebalancecounselling.net

Finley's Stem Cell Donor Are you aged 17-55?
Of reasonable health? Free to get to Hagley on 11/12 May? Or able to log on to dkms.org.uk? Want to save lives? Then please don’t let anything stand between you & making a difference. I have been so touched by all the offers of help from our loved ones & complete strangers. The most important thing you can do is get on that register. If you don’t fit the above criteria, please share with others that can help. I don’t ever want anyone to go through what we have, but the reality is they already are, in the U.K. over 2000 people every year are in need of a stem cell transplant. 75% of U.K. patients will need a donor from someone outside of 68
Only 2% of people in this country are on the donor list, lets get together and change this not just for our little man Finn but for others too. the family. Please, together, let’s help more people to have that person already on the register when they are needed. On Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th May we will be running a stem cell donor drive at Hagley Primary School to try & find a match for Finn & any others in need. In order to raise funds for the fabulous charity DKMS we will be having cakes & drinks so any GBBO fans, now’s the time to show off the skills you’ve gained! If you are able to bake for our sale we would be really thankful. We have also decided to throw together a last minute raffle. We’re kicking it off with £250 voucher from Brookfield Nurseries & a wonderful book bundle from Usborne Books. Please do you have anything to offer to the raffle? Without charities like DKMS we wouldn’t have a potential cure for Finn. We want to thank them the only way we can & that’s to raise as much awareness & money as possible. Please help if you can & please SHARE with anyone you know that may be able to help. Thanks heaps xxx Jo & Paul Hill, Finley’s Mom & Dad 69

THE MOST INTIMATE MENOPAUSE QUESTIONS THAT WOMEN ASK, ANSWERED! With consultant gynaecologist Miss Tania Adib from The Medical Chambers Kensington
The menopause is no longer a dry subject – find out why your vagina might need some therapy, and how you can deal with some of the struggles us women face… I’ve always enjoyed sex but I’m worried that will change after menopause. What changes should I expect?
relief. Longer lasting solutions are also now available, including laser treatments which are a proven, effective solution for vaginal dryness symptoms, eliminating troublesome itching, irritation, and in some cases, pain.
With menopause, the ovaries stop making oestrogen, which can cause your vagina to become dry and less elastic or ‘stretchy’. For many women, low doses of vaginal oestrogen therapy can help keep the lining of your vagina healthy and can be a useful treatment option. Try not to let the menopause put you off having sex - regular vaginal sexual activity is important for vaginal health post-menopause because it stimulates blood flow, keeping your vaginal muscles toned and maintaining your vagina’s stretchiness.
For more information on vaginal dryness or leading laser treatment, Mona Lisa Touch®, visit www.TakeOutThePause.co.uk 2. My libido has slowly decreased since menopause. Why is this, and what can I do to get it back? Low libido may be the result of hormone imbalance and is often associated with other symptoms of the menopause such as night sweats, fatigue, insomnia, and anxiety. In addition, vaginal dryness can be a factor of loss in libido because, as oestrogen levels fall, cells in the lining of the vagina may become thinner, tighter, drier, and therefore less elastic, making it painful to have sex. Some women worry about their sudden drop in sexual interest, but when you get your hormones back in balance, you can often find that there is an increase in sexual desire. There are numerous options that can help get your libido back, including oestrogen and / or testosterone therapy, using lubrication during intercourse, or having laser technology treatments.
1. I’ve had vaginal dryness and pain with intercourse since menopause. Is this common? What can I do to ease symptoms and make sex more comfortable? Research1 led by women’s intimate health specialists, Mona Lisa Touch®, reveals many women are worried about the long-term impact vaginal dryness could have on their relationship, with half of women reporting to have less sex because of the condition, and 1 in 4 have stopped altogether due to vaginal pain and discomfort. It’s important for all women to maintain the quality of life that they had before the menopause and understand that these symptoms can be treated. There are various safe, effective treatments available for vaginal dryness such as vaginal moisturisers and topical oestrogen creams that can provide
3. I’m a postmenopausal woman who is sexually active. Can I still get STIs? Because postmenopausal women can no longer get pregnant, many stop using condoms when they have sex, which can 74
often lead to contracting sexually transmitted diseases (STIs).
feel better so your partner can be a part of the process as well.
Surprisingly, if you’re a postmenopausal woman and aren’t using a vaginal form of oestrogen, your vaginal tissue may be more vulnerable to infection than it was before menopause. No matter what age you are, if you’re in a new relationship both you and your partner should be tested for STIs before you have sex, and if you’re unsure if he / she is disease-free, make sure you use protection. The most commonly reported STI in the UK is chlamydia2, which is easily cured with antibiotics, but often goes undiagnosed and can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease if untreated.
5. Since I’ve started the menopause, I’ve been having trouble controlling my bladder, which is very embarrassing for me. Why is this happening? Urinary incontinence (UI) is also known as ‘loss of bladder control’ or ‘involuntary urinary leakage’. Millions of women experience it, and the frequency of UI tends to increase as you get older, especially during menopause, as hormone changes can affect your muscle strength in the pelvic region. The loss of control can vary from person to person - you may leak a few drops of urine when you laugh, exercise, cough, or pick up heavy objects, or you might experience a sudden urge to urinate and be unable to make it to the toilet in time.
4. How do I speak to my partner about my struggles with the menopause? In many relationships, sexual questions and concerns are not verbalised and partners are left to wonder what is happening, especially during menopause. Opening the door to honest dialogue can help put both of you at ease and understand the changes that are occurring in your body.
Oestrogen is a hormone that helps regulate vaginal moisture, so oestrogen therapy may be a suitable treatment option. The MonaLisa Touch® system also provides a longer lasting solution to help improve urinary incontinence by significantly improving tissue tone and elasticity in the walls of the vagina, by stimulating the growth of new healthy tissue in the vaginal walls. This improves bladder strength and control which can assist in overcoming urinary incontinence.
Find a time when both of you are relaxed and comfortable with each other to strike up the conversation. Discuss your symptoms, e.g. irregular or missed periods, sleep problems, mood changes, hot flushes, and sexual difficulties, some of which your partner may already be aware of, so they know how the menopause is affecting your day-to-day life. Try to help your partner understand which symptoms are the most frustrating to you and be sure to talk about anything that helps you

The Puppy Diaries Meet Dinky the Great Dane and follow him on his adventures By Viki Barnett FACILITIES COORDINATOR, BLACKS VETS
Hi, I’m Viki and I am the Facilities Coordinator here at Blacks Vets in Dudley. I look after the day-to-day running of all five of our Black Country practices making sure that our buildings are beautifully maintained and our IT and phone systems all work effectively. I’m also a real animal lover and proud owner to my horse Gem and my Great Dane pup, Dinky.
experience would be completely different. After a lot of research and visiting many Great Dane shows, we found our breeder and the waiting began. Once a pregnancy had been confirmed, we waited with bated breath to see if there was a male amongst the litter and luckily, there were three!
WEEKS 6 OLD
Regular readers will know that Spring and Summer are really popular times to introduce a new four-legged member to the family, which is why I’m excited to bring you the Puppy Diaries; my story of bringing Dinky home and welcoming him into our world. Here’s our story so far….
I met Dinky at six weeks old and knew instantly he was the one for me by the way he bounded up to me for a cuddle.
In the beginning... I first fell in love with the Great Dane breed when I rescued my beautiful dog, Tyra. She was just 18 months old when she came to live with us and was initially very scared of other dogs. But with lots of love, patience and encouragement, she blossomed into a happy, friendly dog that everyone adored. A beautiful blue grey in colour, she was both the love of my life and partner in crime, right up until she passed away in 2018. Though I felt completely heartbroken I knew that at some stage I wanted big blue paws around me again and after a great deal of discussion, my family and I made the decision to find a breeder and bring a puppy into our lives.
Having a puppy is a big commitment whatever size and shape your dog will be, but knowing that our dog would be on a scale quite unlike any other, certainly made us think long and hard about the practicalities. Once fully grown, giant breeds such as Great Danes eat more and need regular exercise.
Knowing that no-one could ever compete with Tyra, we decided to go for a male pup so that our
They also need larger quantities of preventative treatments to keep them happy and healthy. 76
Luckily, Blacks offers a brilliant plan that helps manage these costs so I know I’m doing the best for my pet and my pocket! As a member of Protect My Pet ClubTM I’ll save an incredible £265* per year on essential boosters, Lungworm, flea and parasite treatments as well as benefitting from discounts on vet recommended nutrition ranges and some dental services. The club will also send me handy text reminders when it’s time to apply treatment or I have an appointment coming up, meaning it will be easy for Dinky to stay on track with his proactive healthcare once he’s a big boy!
Our first trip to Blacks was to sort Dinky’s essential primary vaccination and preventative healthcare treatments. Our popular Pet Starter Pack is a brilliant way to make sure you have provided your pet with a really good start in life. It includes a full primary vaccination course, flea, mite and worming treatments, a microchip, a vet recommended nutrition trial pack and a full veterinary health check. The offer is available for puppies, kittens and rabbits and also includes a follow-up nurse led health check at 6 months. Best of all it costs just £49, making it a real bargain! Dinky visits Blacks’ nurse Pauline
But whilst he’s little, there’s still plenty that we need to keep on top of. We were able to collect Dinky from the breeder at 10 weeks old. It was a long journey and we prepared well for all eventualities. We asked the breeder not to feed him breakfast to reduce the risk of car sickness which is very common in young dogs. We also armed ourselves with puppy pads and kitchen roll in case of any accidents and took soft blankets and toys so that we could amuse and comfort him. We invested in a special back seat cover with a seatbelt harness to keep him safe and secure when travelling and this can adapt in size as he grows; something that will happen very quickly with a Great Dane!
At Blacks, we know that we have a golden opportunity to build a positive association with going to the vets when young pets visit us for the first time, so you can expect fuss, treats and lots of reassurance. Once his primary vaccination course is complete, Dinky can start venturing out into the wide world to meet other dogs and enjoy new and exciting experiences. Catch up with us in the next issue and follow Dinky as he goes to a Puppy Party, a weigh-in and training classes.
When we arrived home, I took him straight to the area of the garden we wanted to toilet train him in so that he immediately began to build an association with what he needed to do. Lots of praise followed and our first successful toilet trip was completed! Once inside, we kept the atmosphere calm and low key so that Dinky could get used to his new space. We decided not to give him the run of the house for the first few days as this could prove overwhelming so we fed him, made him comfortable with the blankets and toys from the trip home and allowed him to settle. By the end of the first day he was tired, happy and seemed thoroughly at ease with his new family.

URGENT PERMANENT, LOVING HOMES NEEDED Posh and Kiki Came into the branch’s care owing to the person looking after them died and they were left to fend for themselves - whilst not youngsters are inseparable and Posh likes nothing more than to be groomed. They are no trouble they enjoy food/warmth and being together. They are continually overlooked in favour of our younger cats but would make lovely companions to someone who could offer a forever home to them. They have been in the cattery so long and it would be so nice for them to have a spatial place for them to enjoy their retirement years.
Mia Mia, dark tortoise shell, around 2 years old, lovely temperament, very lively, would love nothing more than a nice big garden to run around and play. Mia has been in the cattery far too long she is a proper torti likes her own way and could be homed in a home environment or stable cat. Can you please help?

Three-quarters of UK pet owning holiday makers choose staycation with four-legged friend over overseas break But do they know how to travel safely with their pet? Blue Cross is here to help As the nation sets off on their summer travels, national pet charity Blue Cross reveals that 76%1 of UK dog or cat owners have chosen a particular holiday in the UK so they can take their beloved pets on away with them more easily.
“All pet owners must make sure their dog is safely clipped into a car harness seatbelt or in a travel crate and cats in a secure cat carrier. Always make sure you have lots of water for yourself and your pets, take breaks if on long journeys, and never leave your pet in the car unattended as this can be fatal very quickly. One of the biggest threats to pets is heatstroke when in a car so stay with them, lots of ventilation is key and keep an eye on them to make sure they’re looking happy and healthy so everyone can enjoy the holiday.” On average, amongst dog and cat owners who have chosen a holiday because they could take their pet, countryside holidays with pets proved to be the most popular (60%)5. There are lots of lovely walks to take your dogs on in the countryside however there are also things to remember including the danger to livestock. Blue Cross advises dog walkers to keep pooch on a lead at all times near farm animals as by law dog owners are obliged to keep dogs under control so they don’t disturb animals or wildlife. Dogs also need to be on a short lead on most areas of open country and common land, known as access land, between 1 March and 31 July when birds are nesting. To keep your pets safe when travelling, follow Blue Cross advice and speak to your vet ahead of any journey. Make sure your pet is in good health before embarking on adventures with the four-legged members of the family. For more advice on travelling safely with pets in summer and general pet summer safety visit www.bluecross.org.uk/pet-advice/summersurvival-guide-pets, or to make a donation towards caring for sick, injured and homeless pets visit www.bluecross.org.uk
When asked about the barriers to travelling with pets, the survey commissioned by the charity showed that 47%2 of cat or dog owners consider travelling abroad too expensive with a pet and more than half (54%)3 say they are worried their pet would get hurt travelling on a plane or ferry. A staggering 84%4 of people who’ve taken their pet on holiday with them have chosen to travel via car. Blue Cross advises pet owners who wish to take their furry friend with them on holiday to avoid aeroplanes and ferries, unless the ferry company allows pets to stay with their owners. Pets should never be left unattended in a car or anywhere else when travelling no matter how short the journey, dogs and cats can deteriorate in minutes and risk fatality. Mark Bossley, Chief Vet at London’s Victoria animal hospital said: “We’re a nation of pet lovers so it’s no surprise that lots of people choose to go on holiday with their pets. We need to make sure that the four-legged members of the family are travelling safely and are happy, as there can be risks involved when travelling with them. 80

Recipes
By Mike Whitehurst
CAJUN SALMON AND CHERRY TOMATO BROCHETTES WITH SOURED CREAM THIS RECIPE SERVES 4
METHOD: Trim the skin off the salmon or ask your fishmonger to skin it. Dice the salmon into 1 inch cubes and toss in a bowl with rapeseed oil and cajun seasoning. Thread an equal amount of salmon and tomatoes onto the skewers and set aside in the fridge. Once ready to cook brush with rapeseed oil and place onto the grill, do not press down, in fact don’t press down on anything that you put on the grill. That’s the juiciness your throwing away. Don’t turn the skewers until you can see the flesh cooking up the sides. This means the salmon has formed a crust and shouldn’t stick to the grill. The sewers should take about 8 minutes in total.
INGREDIENTS: Salmon skewers 600g of fresh salmon fillet form a fishmonger 20 cherry tomatoes Rapeseed oil 1 tbsp of blackened cajun seasoning (shop bought or request my recipe from mike@takefood.co.uk )
EQUIPMENT: 8 x metal 11” skewers or soaked wooden skewers (available form village hardware stores) Thick wooden chopping board Sharp cooks knife Mixing bowls Whisk Presentation bowls and platters Non stick pan Chargrill | BBQ 82
Our Food & Drink SOURED CREAM:
Rapeseed oil 1 bulb of garlic. Apple cider vinegar Black pepper Maldon sea salt
150g of double cream, 150g of natural yogurt
VEGETABLE SKEWERS INGREDIENTS: 6 thick slices of roasted and marinated aubergine. 24 cherry tomatoes 1 large pepper 16 squares and roasted. 2 red onions quartered and peeled.
METHOD:
Blanch the broccoli in boiling salted water for 30 seconds and plunge immediately into iced water. Slice the garlic horizontally, brush the exposed cloves with rapeseed oil and put flesh side down on a tray and roast in the oven for at least 20 minutes. Finely slice the shallots and toss in the apple cider vinegar and add mustard. Char the broccoli on your char-grill / bbq or in a hot dry frying pan. Season with Maldon salt. Toast the pumpkin seeds and almonds until they start popping. When ready to serve you can reheat the broccoli on the grill or in the oven then toss with the spinach, finely slice the chillies and mix in then pop the roasted garlic cloves out of the case into the salad and sprinkle over the pumpkin seeds. Dress with the shallots and mustard and finish with salt and pepper. Serve with grilled sour dough bread and beetroot and ginger relish - email me for beetroot and ginger relish info. Serve it all as a buffet and then do what I did, make an open sandwich out of it all. If you try out any of these recipes please drop us a line to mike@takefood.co.uk I’m always happy to hear how you get on and your results. I’m happy to give advice, hints and tips on improving your cooking ability too. For help with any of the recipes please email mike@takefood.co.uk
METHOD:
Thread your vegetables evenly as possible on to the skewer, drizzle with oil and season with salt and pepper or cajun spice. Grill on a medium hot part of the grill for about 5 minutes turning regularly. Serve with everything else and some fresh or toasted older sour dough bread.
SOUR DOUGH BREAD
I’ve not tried hard enough yet to get into a routine of making my own sour dough bread regularly so I buy mine from Medicine in Codsall. It’s the best i’ve tried. If you want to try my recipe and where you can buy a dried San Franciscan levain from email mike@ takefood.co.uk

Our Food & Drink Spatula Food processor with blade attachment Small milk pan Medium size pan for simmering water.
METHOD:
Melt the butter in the small pan and blitz the biscuits in your magi-mix or similar until they resemble breadcrumbs. Mix the 2 together until it clumps together. Push into the base of the cake tin and push up the sides as far as it will go and chill in the fridge. Whilst your biscuit base is setting, melt the white chocolate very carefully in a heat proof bowl over barely simmering water. The bowl cannot touch the water in the pan so only put a couple of inches of water in the pan to simmer. Drain the liquid from the mascarpone and place in the mixing bowl. Pour 500 ml of double cream into the other mixing bowl and whisk until soft peak stage. Beat the mascarpone with the spatula and fold in the whipped cream. Once the chocolate has completely melted allow to cool a little and then quickly whisk in the cold left over 100ml of cream and then scrape into cream and cheese mix rapidly whisking to get an even mix. Scrape the mix into the cake tin and spread evenly all over the biscuit base. Smooth the top as much as possible. Place in the fridge and leave over night to ensure a good set. To make the caramel melt the sugar in the small milk pan stirring constantly and once it turns an amber colour stir in the butter quickly until melted then add the cream This will cause the hot mix to splutter so be careful. Boil the mixture for a minute and take off the heat and add sea salt. As the caramel cools it will thicken. To serve, carefully push the base up of the tin. If you're having trouble get a blow torch and quickly heat the sides of the tin to release the cake. Cut into 8 slices and plate topping with a good handful of popcorn and gently heat the caramel sauce to pour over the top. For help with any of the recipes please email mike@takefood.co.uk

FORD FIESTA ST alloy wheels with the red disk callipers peeping through. In addition a body coloured spoiler, sports pedals, Recaro heated front seats, an absolute plethora of equipment that says this is a sporty vehicle. The Recaro seats are superbly supportive and allied to these is a flat bottomed leather steering wheel, and you have what could be described as a driver’s car.
Ford has introduced the next generation of the ubiquitous Fiesta, the ST is a reincarnation of the hot hatch XR2 of many years ago. It is powered by an all-new 200 bhp 3-cylinder, 1.5-litre Eco boost engine, writes Bob Hickman. There is a plethora of functions on the vehicle including driving modes where you can choose which particular engine, steering or stability features you would like to incorporate. There is even a device that tunes the exhaust note for alleged optimum driving enhancement and enjoyment.
The driving experience is one that will enable a driver to select whether they just fancy driving locally around town perhaps do the school run, taking the vehicle on a race track or out on twisty B roads, you can optimise by dialling in your particular choices. The chassis responds at all times to the amount of power
3-cylinder engines have an evocative and sensual sound, add in the twin exhaust and you have a vehicle that looks the business, especially with the wonderful 17 inch 5-spoke 90
Our Motoring available and not once did I feel a torque steer situation, and amazingly the gear ratios and the 6-speed gearbox was a delight.
The test car was loaded with extras which added to the cost. The one feature that I particularly liked was the heated steering wheel, I had never heard of it before but once you have experienced it on a cold, icy morning you wouldn’t want to live without it. I also particularly enjoyed the pop-up device in front of the driver, a little screen which fits on the dashboard and it shows the speed and the local speed limit.
The new Fiesta has a more refined look to it than its predecessor, the new front grille is huge in appearance with the oval shape headlamps carrying on from its predecessor. Ford is claiming that the top speed of this new little hot hatch should be in the region of 144mph and I have no doubts on accepting those figures, the 0-60 gallop is astounding at 6.5 seconds. Ford is suggesting a combined figure of 47mpg should be achievable and for once in a 200 miles sojourn of various types of terrain I achieved according to the computer 45mpg, so perhaps at last manufacturers are starting to get their fuel consumption figures more accurate. The CO emission is given as 136.
Without doubt the ST Fiesta will win friends in abundance, not cheap at ÂŁ20,245 on the road and with all the extras included on my particular derivative this made the vehicle ÂŁ23,765,

The best investors are dead investors!

doom and gloom. I often suggest to my clients not to watch the news doggedly and to sometimes give themselves a break from it.
Yes, you read that correctly. A study from Fidelity analysed the performance of accounts to determine which type of investors received the best returns.
My clients have learnt that the keys to successful investing are diversification, i.e. not all eggs in one basket, be a long-term steady investor and once we have a good tax efficient strategy in place, leave it to do it's thing.
Over a ten-year period, the clients that did the best were the ones who were dead and the second-best group were clients who had forgotten they had investments! Why is this the case?
Keep calm and don’t panic Mr Mainwaring!
Often investors are their own worst enemies. I believe there are many reasons for this, one being a lack of patience. Successful investing for most people is a marathon not a sprint, time in the market, not timing the market is the key.
The information in this article does not constitute investment advice; you must not rely on the content when making investment decisions without taking advice. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. The value investments and the income from them, may fall or rise and investors may get back less than they invested.
Another reason dead people beat everyone else is that there is no temptation to panic if prices go down, no one is thinking that poor economic conditions are a permanent destruction of wealth. The dead are not watching the news or reading the newspapers which do have a tendency to be focused on

(L to R) Jack Pugh, Jess Perry, Amy Nichols and Victoria Gardner (all apprentices at Talbots Law)
Talbots Law named one of the best places to work in the Midlands
A leading Black Country law firm has been named one of the best places to work in the Midlands.
She continued: “We invest heavily in recruiting locally, promoting from within and investing in our apprenticeship programme. Our strong score shows that the strategy is paying dividends."
Talbots Law, which recently announced 10% growth in 2018, has been ranked 65th in the regional league table compiled by The Sunday Times and Best Companies, recognising its commitment to investing in its staff, their careers and to its charity work.
Every employee was asked to complete an independent survey of their experience of working at Talbots Law, revealing what it’s like being an employee at one of the firm’s six offices in Codsall, Dudley, Halesowen, Kidderminster, Stourbridge and Wolverhampton.
The legal specialist, already awarded the 1* rating for the second successive year in the national awards, has now been named in the exclusive regional list after securing significant improvements in scores for leadership, employees being treated fairly and ‘giving something back’.
Mary continued: “I was delighted with our ‘giving something back’ score. We encourage all our people to support local causes and last year we raised over £50,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH). Our employees have run, climbed, baked, cycled and dressed up and dressed down - I couldn’t be prouder of them.
Chief Executive Mary Mocklow commented: “Our aim is to be the employer of choice in the Black Country and Worcestershire and this is an important step in the right direction.
“Our work with BCH means they have been able to purchase lifesaving equipment for a fleet of four ambulances. We’re not going to stop there; we’re already looking forward to another record-breaking year!”
“The Sunday Times Best Companies programme ensures we are benchmarking what we do against the best firms in the Midlands and the UK. We want Talbots to continue to grow and this means we need talented, motivated and values-led staff doing the right thing for our clients.”
For further information, visit www.talbotslaw.co.uk or follow @talbotslaw on twitter. 98
“The service was excellent. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, from the reception staff to the law team.”
Last year, we helped over 12,000 people to move home worry-free. Why do so many choose Talbots over anyone else? Well, maybe it is because we have the largest Residential Property team in the area. That means we’re always there when you need us. And we understand your needs, no matter what your situation. Or perhaps people choose Talbots because we like to do things differently – no one-size fits all for us! No matter if you’re downsizing, a first-time buyer or after your forever home, choose Talbots.
