It is generally recommended to wash (rather than dry-clean) linen, especially fabrics that are in contact with the skin, as well as table or bed linen. Linen actually becomes softer and more luminous with every wash, as the relief of the flax fibre reflects the light. Always choose a neutral detergent (without optical brighteners) and clean stains when they are still fresh. White linen can usually be washed at 95°C and coloured linen at 40°C or 60°C, on a regular program. Follow the instructions on the label, which take into account various parameters: type of weave and knit, dyes, finishing, accessories, embroidery etc.

Prefer oxygen-based detergents and bleaches. Avoid chlorine-based products which can cause linens to go yellow if they are not rinsed immediately.

candeggio Preferire i detersivi e i candeggianti a base di agenti ossigenati. Evitare i prodotti a base di cloro (candeggina…) che potrebbero ingiallire il lino se non immediatamente risciacquati.

lavaggio E’ consigliabile lavare il lino in acqua soprattutto se si tratta di capi di vestiario a contatto con la pelle o di biancheria per la casa, tovaglie, lenzuola, etc… D’altra parte ad ogni lavaggio il lino diventa più morbido e luminoso perché il rilievo della fi bra di lino rifl ette la luce. E’ comunque consigliabile scegliere un detersivo neutro (privo di imbiancanti ottici). Lavare le macchie quando sono ancora fresche. In generale, lavare il lino bianco a 95 °C e quello colorato a 40 °C o 60 °C con un normale programma di lavaggio.Seguire le indicazioni riportate sull’etichetta che tengono conto dei diversi parametri, del tipo di tessitura e di lavorazione, della tintura, della fi nitura, degli accessori, dei ricami, etc.

Ironing linen while it is damp, with or without steam, is easy and gives an excellent result. Preferably iron it on the reverse side. The iron temperature must be selected according to the weight and composition of the fabric. Pure linen can be ironed with a very hot iron. First do a test on the corner of the fabric, an iron that is too hot may cause dark colours to shine. In the case of knits, ironing is usually not necessary.

Selezionare la temperatura del ferro da stiro in base al peso e alla composizione del tessuto. Il lino puro può essere stirato con il ferro molto caldo. Fare una prova su un angolo di tessuto poiché un ferro troppo caldo può rendere lucidi i colori scuri. La maglia non necessita generalmente di alcuna stiratura.

Easy care ——— Le lin s’entretient facilement, se lave à haute température, supporte bien l’essorage et le séchage machine, et se repasse très facilement en suivant quelques conseils astucieux !

Il est tout indiqué de laver le lin à l’eau, surtout lorsqu’il s’agit de textiles en contact avec la peau, linge de maison, nappes, draps, etc. D’ailleurs, à chaque lavage, le lin devient plus doux et lumineux, car le relief de la fibre de lin reflète la lumière. Dans tous les cas, choisir une lessive neutre (sans azurants optiques). Intervenir sur les taches quand elles sont encore fraîches. En général, le lin blanc se lave jusqu’à 95 °C et la couleur à 40°C ou 60°C, programme normal. Suivre les indications de l’étiquette qui tiennent compte de différents paramètres, type de tissage et tricotage, teinture, finissage, accessoires, broderies, etc.

Préférer les lessives et produits blanchissants à base d’agents oxygénés. Eviter les produits à base de chlore (javel...) qui pourraient faire jaunir le lin s’ils ne sont pas rincés immédiatement.

repassage Repasser le lin encore humide, avec ou sans vapeur, est très facile et donne un excellent résultat. Repasser de préférence sur l’envers. La température du fer est à sélectionner en fonction du poids et de la composition du tissu. Le lin pur peut être repassé à fer bien chaud. Faire d’abord un essai sur le coin du tissu car un fer trop chaud peut lustrer les coloris foncés. Dans le cas de la maille, le repassage n’est en général pas nécessaire.

séchage en tambour ménager Le lin peut être séché de différentes façons : suspendu, à plat (pour la maille), en sèchelinge (température modérée ou normale, voir étiquette).

nettoyage professionnel Le nettoyage à sec est parfois recommandé, en fonction du finissage du tissu ou de la confection (doublures, boutons, etc.)
