Starcatchers & Branar Téatar do Pháistí present

The Shape of Things

Created by Ailie Cohen & Marc Mac Lochlainn The world all around us is made up of wonderful shapes. But sometimes there are so many shapes that some shapes get lost. This is a story of two shapes, Cubert and Triantán, and the adventures they have finding their way back to each other.

Family favourites Theatre Lovett return with this upbeat comedy-adventure. A sensitive musical-prodigy makes a quiet name for herself in a cacophonous world. As our young heroine journeys over cobblestones and canals, we learn about love, loss, the place of salt in our diet and the courage to lose our footing without losing our way.

Set in a soft and tactile environment Starcatchers and Branar tell this interactive story through puppetry, object theatre, music and sound.

"Theatre Lovett, one of the most imaginative and indispensable companies at work today." The Irish Times

For children aged 6months – 2 years and their adults.

Supported by The Arts Council of Ireland. There is a brief use of strobe lighting during the performance.

Adm: €10 for two (adult & child), €15 for three (at least one must be an adult) Location: Linenhall Arts Centre, Theatre Duration: 45 minutes (including 10mins of interactive play following the performance)

An animated fairy tale meets modern, live-action comedy. The story follows the beautiful princess Giselle (Amy Adams) who is banished by an evil queen (Susan Sarandon) from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't operate on a 'happily ever after' basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) who has come to her aid - even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home - she has to wonder: Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world? " A winning whirl of sprightly songs (courtesy of Menken and Schwartz), satirical sass and good old-fashioned romance combine to conjure that rarest of things - a movie which will delight young and old, boys and girls, alike.... Enchanting!" - Mark Kermode” The Guardian

ROOLABOOLA CHILDREN'S ARTS FESTIVAL 2017 LINENHALL ARTS CENTRE, CASTLEBAR, CO MAYO FRIDAY 13TH - MONDAY 30TH OCTOBER

"With utmost care applied to its every shot, the adults will be marvelling as much as the youngsters." Jacob Stolworthy, The Independent Adm: €5 Location: Linenhall Arts Centre, Theatre Duration: 101mins

"A subtle, minimal performance... unpretentious, without pressure to laugh... a didactic play with its own dynamic, a workshop without know-it-alls." Abendzeitung "Torbahn shows by example that the spontaneous enjoyment of movement and rhythm and the seemingly "incomplete" images created have an infectious vitality and give your imagination wings... Not just recommended, but entertaining as well!" Nürnberger Nachrichten

We Come From Far, Far Away uses live music, storytelling, clowning, comedy, shadow puppetry and a small tent to tell a big story in an intimate way. Performed in a Mongolian Yurt, the show explores the stories of refugees. Follow the difficult and amazing journey of two boys from Aleppo who travel to Norway. NIE are an award winning theatre company based in the UK and Norway. They developed the show working with Hvalstad Transittmottak, a centre for young refugees who have arrived alone to claim asylum in Norway. “NIE’s talented ensemble of actor-musicians conjure a sophisticated story with a quirky comic edge”**** The Guardian on NIE’s previous production Beauty and the Beast

A colourful story in seven parts for children from the age of four. The colours have been mixed, the brushes are ready. The painter stands behind the transparent canvas, ready to go. A live performance of painting in which stories emerge and fade away as a painting is transformed again and again. What does Red do on Thursday? Experience painting as a process which, from the very first brush stroke, is full of surprises and where the reward lies in the activity itself. Live painting to music by Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy
