Introduction
W
elcome back to Fleetwood Gym’s annual tournament and Fleetwood Sports College, I once again apologise for our tournament last year which due to a number of things that were out of our control led to an unorganised event. This year we have added a day to the tournament and have introduce a girls day, Monday will see Fleetwood First girl only tournament and see our first girls team our Under 16’s compete. This has been yet another big year for us at Fleetwood Gym with a lot of big changes behind the scene. We were until now the football section of a local youth club, but after two years of planning have now become a full Football Club with our own separate management. This is made up of myself Barry Whittaker becoming Chairman, Susan Houton General Secretary, Diane Elliott Treasurer, Andy William Club Development Officer and Beverley Whittaker as Club Welfare Officer. This change will allow us to move even more forward and develop us as a leading football club on the Fylde coast. Fleetwood Gym since are relaunch over 2 years ago now have over 160 children in 10 teams playing organised football, our teams range from Under 6’s to Under 14’s. Fleetwood Gym FC also provides 12 hours of free coaching to our local schools per week. I would like to take this chance to thank all of the Volunteers here today who give their time free of charge, thank ALL my managers who again work tirelessly for this club and this week have worked to make this event happen. Thanks to Beverley Whittaker who has co-ordinate all the volunteers here this weekend. I would also like to thank our event sponsors, firstly Martin Gardner editor of the LINK-Magazine who has produced our tournament program. I would like to thank Jonesco sponsors of the Under 8’s section, Atos Origin who have provided the car park at Hesketh House and have supported this community event here in Fleetwood. Port Catering Equipment who has for the last 3 years sponsored the Under 10’s, Also thanks to the Fleetwood Carnival Committee for their support of the Under 11’s. Thanks again to Martin Gardner and his LINK-Magazine for his sponsorship of the Under 12’s, As usual without mention Ian Barnes and Foulds Metals who support this club year in, year out. Thanks to Wyre Memorial who are proud to be local and support the youth of this town and Finally Thanks to Nigel Armstrong at Armbro Trophy’s who have supplied all the trophy’s and sponsored the girl’s tournament. So let hope for good weather, and good luck to all the teams this weekend. Barry Whittaker Chairman Fleetwood Gym FC
