Fleetwood’s SpareParts Festival ‘On the Move’
A
giant mermaid puppet created by the visitors to Fleetwood’s Freeport outlet centre last year, was at the head of Sandbach’s SpareParts parade last Sunday. The SpareParts Arts Festival, sponsored by Leftcoast and Wyre Council in Fleetwood for the last three years, moved to Sandbach last weekend to great public acclaim. Featuring a dozen acts, many of which will be at Fleetwood’s Transport Festival on Sunday 16 July, the Sandbach town park was transformed into an open-air arena of fun and performance. Originally based around Fleetwood Festival of Transport (Tram Sunday), this celebration of street art has been funded by Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring Fund to visit two other free Transport Festivals in 2017 – Sandbach and Crewe, both in Cheshire. Each festival will feature the same mix of professional and community art which proved to be so successful 24
in Fleetwood. “It was so exciting to see the acts which we are bringing to Fleetwood perform with a huge public audience at another Transport Festival”, said Dave Carlos, Tram Sunday’s Operations Director. “Adam McGuigan, who joined us for last year’s SpareParts, is also acting as Festival Director for these events and he has created a spectacular show for all ages – all transport related”. Plans are well advanced for the Crewe Festival on 8/9 July and for Fleetwood on 16 July where Urban Playground’s STEAM show will be a headliner. “What’s great about this show is that local teenagers can play their part too and the artists will be training them in Parkour (free-running) in advance of the event”, said Dave. That building later became the “Fielden Library” and served Fleetwood as a Free Public Library until May 1988. After comprehensive and passionate research Rita Vaughan will be visiting the current Fleetwood library to present a talk on the life of Samuel Laycock.
