DON’T LEAVE YOUR CHILD’S SIGHT TO CHANCE Blackpool optician is urging parents not to leave their child’s sight to chance, encouraging them to take advantage of the FREE eyecare they are entitled to.
Regular eye examinations are recommended for everyone, but for young eyes with rapidly developing eyes, it is even more essential. A study by the College of Optometrists tested 1,000 school children concluding that 24% of the children had significant levels of astigmatism and displayed significantly reduced vision compared to their peers.
Lisa Barrett from Red Bank Opticians Kodak Lens Vision Centre in Bispham says too many parents are leaving their child’s eyecare in the hands of their schools, which are not always obligated to provide regular sight tests.
Depending on the age of the child, the eye examination may be the same as that of an adult, however it is altered to suit the child’s capability. Should your child require glasses they will receive an NHS voucher to cover all or part of the cost depending on the frame and lenses chosen. In most cases no additional costs are incurred by the parents.
“School eyetests have become a postcode lottery, and too many parents assume that their children’s sight is being monitored at school, when it isn’t. Children’s sight tests are free, and can detect problems before their education is affected, so are abolutely vital,” said Lisa.

Blackpool Junior Rugby Club Welcome to Blackpool Junior Rugby Club. We are situated on Fleetwood Road, just after Mossom Lane. We welcome boys and girls at the club and are always looking for new players. Children can start playing rugby from the age of 6 and continue to play right up to becoming an adult where they can join the adult game at 18. The rules change as the children grow up until they play on a full pitch and with full rules. 6 to 8 years play tag rugby.
We train on a Sunday morning at 10.30am and we train one night a week during the season, this is spread through the week to give all teams a chance on the training pitch. We play matches against other clubs at all age levels and we welcome clubs visiting us from around the North West for matches and also from around the country for friendly games. Outside the season we continue to meet on a Sunday morning and train and have fun, this is done to give all players a chance to relax after working hard through the season. Our players took part in this year’s Gala and had a fun day walking round and showing off there version of a Hakka to the rhyme of Humpty Dumpty

BJFF - Fund-Raising and Social Events...
Our Fund-Raising and Social Team are always on the lookout for donations of Raffle Prizes, Auction items, and items which are suitable for a Tombola.......... no matter how large or small..........if you would like to contribute to our fund-raising efforts by way of donating a raffle prize or an item we could auction at one of our events, please contact Kelly on 07780 856252 to arrange for collection. Our Fund-Raising and Social Development Team are currently preparing for a number of events over the summer… • Family Fun Day / Parents Football Tournament – on Saturday 30th July, there will be an action packed day of family fun, hosted by BJFF on Bispham Gala Field. With a number of attractions, including gladiator style jousting, a mock-up fun boxing ring, sumo wrestling, bungee running (all inflatable based), plus slides, speed gun challenge, races and many more. All day BBQ with hot and cold drinks available. Plus see the Mums and Dads play football in an Inter-Squad 7-A-Side football challenge (16 teams entered). • BJFF Annual 3-Day Tournament – Saturday 27th – Monday 29th August – BJFF are proud to host the LARGEST FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT in the UK, with 300 teams visiting us from all over the country.
