eople living with dementia are being given more support thanks to a new role at Trinity Hospice after Trinity welcomed its first Admiral Nurse, Lorna Webber, in collaboration with Dementia UK. Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who can offer one-to-one support and guidance to help families live more positively with dementia and to face the challenges the condition may bring with more confidence and less fear. Although there are 261 Admiral Nurses in the country, Lorna is one of only 14 who work from hospices. She said 'My passion is mental health, so when I heard about this job I knew I would be able to use the skills I have developed over the years to support people living with dementia and their carers and families. I am here to provide support, help and advice to local families, and will start working out in the community to educate those people who are caring for someone with dementia, while providing holistic support for patients at the same time.' Lorna continued by stating 'I am also going to be providing education and gold standard training here at Trinity Hospice for staff on dementia care so it can be even more dementia friendly than it already is. As an organisation, Trinity is very passionate about its care for people living with dementia.' Lorna, who has been a nurse in general practice and mental health services for 34 years, said she also had exciting plans to develop dementia care on the Fylde coast, involving more community groups and providing education for District Nurses and other community health care professionals. She added 'There are a lot of third-sector organisations trying to help, with dementia cafes and support events, but it’s just about bringing them together and co-ordinating them.' Trinity’s Chief Executive Officer, David Houston, said 'We are very pleased to have

Antiques Roadshow summer date for Lytham Hall

ytham Hall is pleased to announce that they have been chosen as one of the few nationwide locations for the upcoming 42nd series of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow. Managers at the Hall have been in negotiations with the BBC for many months, and they are thrilled to be one of the nine places to be filmed throughout this Summer. ‘As you can imagine we are over the moon,’ explains Deputy Manager Paul Lomax, ‘To have a national institution such as the Antiques Roadshow coming to Lytham Hall is testament to all the hard work staff and volunteers have been putting in over the last couple of years. The programme is so high profile, which in turn will be amazing for the Hall. We received the good news before Christmas but had to keep it secret until the BBC revealed all of their new locations. As you can imagine – it’s been very difficult!’ The programme will be filmed at Lytham Hall on Tuesday June 11th, and they are praying for good weather! It is a free event for the public to bring along their treasures to be valued, or just to have a look at how a large programme like this is made. General Manager Peter Anthony has been working flat out to raise the profile of the Hall, 18

Bands on the run The Blackpool Music Run Festival returns

lackpool Music Run 2019 10k/5k returns to the promenade again this year with a whole host of running, family activities and bundles of great music Blackpool Music Run is a 10K and 5K fun run along the world-famous Blackpool Promenade, which will be closed to traffic during the event . Entrants to either event will receive a bespoke medal and chip timing along with water, live music entry to Finishers Festival and Run Rewards. The event will be held on Sunday 16 June (Fathers Day) and will be supporting Global charity, ‘The Movember Foundation’ who’s aim is to stop men dying too young. The charity is something everybody at #BMR2019 is proud to support. New for 2019 are Run Rewards, each entrant to Blackpool Music Run 10k and 5k will get access to Run Rewards. A new initiative aimed at offering entrants to #BMR2019 even more value for money. Run Reward cards will be sent out to entrants before the event and the cards can be used of the weekend of 15 and 16 March to access lots of deals. Deal include, a free pint at 1887 Brew Room, 20% off Ascent Trampoline Park, a Free Gillette Razor and much more.

any of us will already be planning our summer breaks and holidays and, for pet owners, many of these plans will include their four-legged friends. But how can you ensure that your furry family members enjoy the holiday as much as you do? PDSA Vet Olivia Anderson-Nathan says ‘With more and more petfriendly options available, people are understandably choosing to spend more quality time together by taking their pets on holiday. However, not all pets will enjoy the travel and new experiences associated with a holiday, so it’s important to plan carefully.’ To help would-be stay-cationers, Olivia has put together her top tips on picking the ultimate pet-friendly holiday. • Consider your pet’s temperament – most cats and certain dogs might not feel comfortable in an unfamiliar environment. Consider whether your pet would be less stressed with a pet-sitter or boarding than coming on holiday. • Pick pet-friendly – narrow your search to look for pet-friendly accommodation. Check for details like the size of the property, whether there enough space for your pet, if the outdoor space is securely enclosed, and whether there are hazards like ponds to be aware of. • Research the local area – make sure there are plenty of dog-

friendly trips and locations nearby, like pubs that allow dogs (some even offer dog menus!) so you can bring them along for the fun. Consider travel time – lengthy journeys can be stressful for many pets, so keep travel as short as possible, and plan in plenty of rest breaks along the way. If travelling to other countries, consider how they will cope with the journey. If they are likely to get stressed, consider staying closer to home. For detailed tips on getting your pet used to travel, visit www.pdsa.org.uk/car-travel Make plans for vet care – visit your usual vet before you go to get the right preventive care for the area you’re visiting. For instance, some diseases and parasites such as ticks can be more common in certain areas. Note the details of a vet near your holiday home – hopefully you won’t need to use them, but should anything happen you’ll be glad you have them handy! Top-up on training – even the bestbehaved dogs will benefit from occasional training top-ups. Make sure they respond well to commands such as leave, stay and recall. This way you can keep them safe when out and about, such as walking near cliffs or wildlife. Stick to usual routines – although things will undoubtedly be different while you’re away, try to stick to usual r times for feeding and walking as much as possible. Bring everything you need from home as familiar objects will help your pet feel more comfortable.
