land neutrals have finally been given the boot and colour has triumphed, meaning that in 2010 rooms will glow with warmth and character. Feel free to use beautiful, blooming florals, or add impact with strong blocks of colour mimicking catwalk styles. Even devotees of cool monochrome schemes should add injections of colour to bring them bang up to date. Be cool and contemporary with zingy accents of bubblegum pink, citrus yellow and lime or opt for rich, luscious plums and purples and lipstick reds for a glamorous, luxurious look. Throw caution to the wind and mix elements of different styles, eras, colours and patterns to create a look that works for you. “Homes should be personal reflections of their owners, where treasured possessions complementary in colour, texture and form are displayed, and the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed.” So if you love nature but feel florals are too girly or fussy for your rooms, opt for the more funky 'country chic', which mimics a hunting lodge look.

Follow our experts guide to the hot new trends for interiors... 6

Go for spring greens Soft, deep shades such as moss greens, are renowned for their calming effect, but don't overlook bright leaf green and lime which are starring on everything from textiles to wall coverings. Introducing shades inspired by nature is an ideal way to freshen up a neutral scheme, says Mockie Harrison, manager of John Lewis's Home Design Studio. "Soft honey and cool neutral tones are juxtaposed against vibrant hues such as leaf green, pumpkin, purple and kingfisher blue." Tip: Muted greens team well with soft mimosa yellows, warm ambers, and bronzes. Add complementary materials such as dark stained wood, copper and reactive glazes.

FIRST DRIVE:

CITROEN

DS3

The CITROEN DS3 IS STYLISH, WELL-EQUIPPED AND LUXURIOUS. PATTERNED CARPETS, COLOURED SEAT INLAYS AND DASHES OF CHROME ADD TO THE OVERALL UPMARKET FEEL.

I

t has been some time since Mini could claim to have the market cornered for trendy city cars boasting both style and substance, but the fashionable high-streets currently dominated by the ever-expanding Mini range, the Alfa Romeo Mito and the smaller but all-conquering Fiat 500 are about to become even more lively with the arrival of the Citroen DS3. When a production model resembles its concept predecessor so closely it is a sure sign that the manufacturer is about to try something new. With the C3 updated for the new decade and the recent arrival of the practical but creatively styled C3 Picasso taking care of the volume compact hatchback and compact MPV sector, the DS3 is a new attempt to break into the premium compact hatchback sector with a stylish, wellequipped and generally more luxurious model.

Mention LINK-Mag when contacting advertiser

At first glance, Citroen appears to have cracked it. There are bold styling gestures that may or may not be immediately liked and that may or may not grow on carbuyers over time, but as a package the DS3 is every bit as attractive and arguably more forward thinking in its design than its rivals.

“

Unlike some of the competition the DS3 is not a modern take on past glories.

Attempting to be a design classic in its own right, the model can hardly be accused of trading on its name either. Car historians and Citroen fanatics may raise an eyebrow at the rekindling of the DS moniker, but the French manufacturer is not claiming the DS3 is a modern interpretation of the fifties style icon. The DS4 and DS5 models that will follow shortly will make no such claims, either.

MOTORING The intention of the DS sub (or uber) brand is visible in the lack of Citroen chevrons on the rear. A special DS badge takes their place, marking the DS line-up out as a range in its own right. That said, the visual similarities to the Citroen C3 are present inside and out, but DS3 customers can expect a far greater degree of customisation from their cars. Citroen has retooled its factory especially to deal with two-tone bodywork and roof decals of the DS3. The basic layout of the DS3 interior is familiar from the standard new C3, but there are more than enough additions to make the luxury model feel just that. Dashboards can be specified in a range of colours and shapely interior panels are soft to touch and lined with more exuberant materials. Patterned carpets, coloured seat inlays and dashes of chrome add to the upmarket feel. Recessed dials are complimented with internally lit needles that jump into life when the engine starts. With the range-topping 154bhp turbocharged petrol engine drivers will also be met with an appealing, sporty exhaust note. The engine, the result of a partnership between Peugeot, Citroen and BMW proves well suited to the DS3 in 150 THP form, making the car feel far keener than the Citroen C3. The crisp gear change and responsive, well-weighted steering help, too. The suspension is firm and the DS3 can be chucked into bends with confidence, but it's also damped to deal with rougher surfaces even on the DSport model's 17-inch wheels. As a compromise between city driving and the open road it's hard to fault. The DS3 shouldn't prove a struggle to live with, either. The boot is very accommodating and, while the three-

door body naturally restricts access to the rear, it will suit for two adults over shorter journeys. The chunky B-pillar may spoil their view somewhat, but visibility from the driver's seat is very good and the front passenger benefits from a recessed glove compartment that allows extra legroom. Three trim levels - DSport, DStyle, DSign - are available dependant on engine choice and there are enough customisation opportunities to give the DS3 a truly bespoke feel. A 99g/km CO2 emitting model should also attract attention from fashionable city car fans. Taxfree status could be as appealing as the floating roof and LED running lamps. It is more than adequately equipped to tackle the competitive but lucrative premium small car segment in the styling stakes, but the DS3's enjoyable driving experience and neat packaging give it more than just high street chic.

Facts at a glance: Model: Citroen DS3 1.6 THP 150 DSport, ÂŁ15,900 on the road. Engine: 1.6-litre petrol unit developing 154bhp and 177lb/ft of torque. Transmission: 6-speed manual transmission, driving the front wheels. Performance: Maximum speed 133mph, 0-62mph 8.1 seconds. CO2 emissions: 155g/km. Economy: 42.1mpg.

Bispham Junior Football Federation

Football For ALL Initiative........ Our Football For ALL initiative is growing from strength-tostrength, and with the improved weather conditions, we have been able to take the boys and girls outside for the last couple of weeks. Each Sunday, our Football For ALL players train from 10:30am - Midday, with 18 players aged 4-10 at our most recent session. Our sessions are aimed at new players (Boys and Girls) between the ages of 4 and 10, who want to take their first steps into football in a fun and friendly environment, as well as for squad players who need some extra training. Trainers and a Drink required, Football Boots if children have them. The BJFF Club House is on the corner of Kelvin Road and Carr Road and has a fully-stocked snack bar which will be open serving hot and cold food and drinks. Training will continue throughout the Summer months and all newcomers will be given a warm welcome. If you are interested in coming along, with your son or daughter, you can simply turn up at the Club House on Sunday morning, or pre-book with our Football For ALL Lead Coordinator, Andi Whitworth (FA Level 2 coach) on 07791 137682 (or e-mail— andiwhitworth@hotmail.co.uk). The first session is FREE, and then £3 thereafter. New Players Required - GIRLS Under 11's (School Years 5 and 6), GIRLS Under14's (School Years 8 and 9) and Boys Under 10's (School Year 5).....At BJFF we currently have two dedicated GIRLS only teams, training and playing matches in the North Valley Youth League. We currently have teams representing BJFF at Under 12's (School Year 7) and Under 14's (School Years 8 and 9). We are on the lookout for players at both age groups, and we are also currently recruiting players to start a NEW GIRLS TEAM at the Under 11's age group (current School Years 5 and 6). If you are interested in joining this new team, training will initially be with the Under 12's Girls, separating as the Squad becomes big enough to sustain itself. Please contact Simon Walford (Mobile - (07920) 865497, or E-Mail siwalford1965@googlemail.com) for more details. We are also creating a NEW BOYS TEAM for next season the "BJFF Barbarians" - those players currently Under 10's (current School Year 5) who will be moving from mini-soccer (7-A-Side) to 11-A-Side for next season who find themselves without a Club will be welcomed into the BJFF family, as we will be running 2 full 11-A-Side teams at this age group. We find that as teams progress to this age group, squads diminish from 18 to 20 players, to 15-16 players. BJFF is offering all of those players an opportunity to form a new team to carry on playing and enjoying football. We have two coaches assigned to take the Squad forward, one of whom has his Level 2 coaching award, and will be liaising with the Managers of Under 10's teams local to our area in order to generate sufficient players. If you are currently in School Year 5 and are interested in joining this new team from the start, please contact Andy Griffiths ASAP on 07884 476954 (or e-mail - agriffit@csc.com).Club House & Facilities News.....

We have engaged a contractor to commence works on the provision of two new mini soccer pitches, providing much needed 7-A-Side and training facilities for our younger children.
